  • Speeding

Hey all, papercup_alibi here for Dan.

So Dan was going down the road and saw another car speeding about 90/mph. He decided to match their speed, thinking that the other car would take the fall if the cops were to catch them.

How much do you usually go over the speed limit?

  • all the time but only like 5 over

  • 7-8 over. More if I know it’s an area where there are never cops. Cops usually don’t care unless you’re going 10-15 over anyways.

  • depends on a lot of things

  • I try not to… breaking the law is breaking the law… even if everyone does it.

    Really I just couldn’t afford a ticket.

  • Usually about 5 mph.

I have been known to go 15-20 over on occasion.

  • I set my cruise control on the speed limit.

  • Since Dan is driving 90, does that mean he will make it to watch the Pats/Giants game?

  • Hey Pape cup….
I do not usually go ove 10 miles above the speed limit but I have burried the needle several times wanting to see how fast I could go,110 max.

  • I have several relatives who are cops. I set my cruise for 6-8 over because I know they won’t stop you unless you are 10 over. Also, they can see the front of the car dip slightly if you brake when you see them so don’t ever, ever do that! That will let them know that you know you’re speeding and they’re more likely to pull you over. And it’s true that they profile. They’re more likely to pull over a crappy car that is speeding than a Lexus or BMW doing the same speed.

  • my family (i dont drive yet) usually goes over by at least 10, unless there’s someone slower in front of us. then we gun it and pass them, or my sisters, who have more road rage then the rest of my family, tailgate for a few minutes, then pass

  • Sometimes more than I should.  I try to keep it at less than 10mph over the limit.

  • I don’t.

Ever.My parents do, but I don’t.((Yet I’m automatically a bad driver, simply because of my age.))

  • I’m horrible… I’ve gotten quite a few reckless driving tickets, and seeing everyone’s answers puts it into perspective. Really guys… only 5 over?!

I usually always go 15 over, and when I can, I’ll push it to 19 over (20 over is considered reckless, so I try to stay just under that). Anything over 80 is reckless as well, so unless there is another car going wicked fast (like in Dan’s situation– I use that same logic) I won’t go over 80.

  • 5 mph in the north. When I get as far south as Missouri, I go the speed limit. In the south, if 20 cars are speeding the police will pull over the one with northern plates.

  • Usually about 5 mph or so

  • I don’t right now because it’s a construction zone and they’re always there…that and my friend dates a trooper and i’m afraid he’s going to be the one to pull me over…

  • 10 I think is safe; 15 YOU risk a ticket. (not me causemy hubby’s a cop. )

  • Depends on the area.  10 mph usually.

  • not much now — I am probation for speeding at the moment………

  • Dan was speeding? With his family in the car???

  • five to ten miles over

  • When you look as good as I do, everyone else has to speed to catch me…………..

  • Usually no more than 15 kph over, so that even if I get a ticket I’m not getting any demerit points. On the highway where the speed limit is higher though, I’ll go 20-40 kph over.

  • so did he get a ticket?

  • 5-7 mph in most areas.

On the highway, about 15-25 over. =)

  • How is that thinking even logical? Why wouldn’t the cop chase Dan??

    =_=
I only speed at 3 in the morning. =)

  • 1/2 a mph slower than the fastest car within a mile. let them get them get the ticket and I still get there almost as fast

  • Twist2daRav3n

If no one is on the road to pace, I am about as bad as you are. But I never get caught

  • My dad pushes seventy or eighty as a habit; I hear ten over is the safe max.
One should go with the speed of traffic.

  • my grandpa was a bad influence on me. we were in a 65 zone, he told me to speed up to pass a convoy of trucks, so i did. we were getting to the head of the convoy and he asked how fast i was going. when i said 85, he told me that if that was the best i could do, i needed to pull over and let him drive.

    i was barely 15

  • i’ve had the hedge my 5-10 over to below 5 because cops in my neighborhood are ticket happy freaks. they got my cousin for doing three over the limit

  • 8-15. Unless i feel those other cars are encouraging me to go faster.. then sometimes like 25…

  • LOL If Dan’s following the speeding car, and they both pass a cop with a radar, one car won’t be able to catch and pull over both cars. He’ll pull over the first one he catches up to – the car that’s following.

I try not to speed unless I’m passing someone. It’s a dumb reason to get a ticket and an even dumber reason to get into an accident. Speed limits are posted for good reason.

  • only 5-10 over.  cops are well.. something else in my neck of the woods.

  • Cops are ultra strict in my town. 5 over is the bravest I get.

  • I try not to, but if I do speed, I tend to go 5-10 over, but usually try to limit it to 5 over.

  • Usually only 5 over, I’ll push it to 8 sometimes

  • I’ve tailgated a truck before going about 80 and the cop got me AND the trucker. pffffffft….

  • depends on the area. usually only 5. can get up to 10-20

  • Hahaha, that’s the traffic I remember down in Dallas and stuff!

  • only on the highway and its over an hour trip. just have to make sure there is someone going faster- ALWAYS. they are the higher price ticket, they will get pulled over.

  • On the highway…I only go up to about 80!  Back roads…only 5 mph over the speed limit.

  • 5-10 mph over.. you should tell dan to be careful… i have heard stories of cops pulling over more than one car at a time (and i know my parents once got pulled over for speed-following and the other car they were following was not)… and cop cars now have those dash cams that can record you car and license plate.

    Daniel (doubledb)

  • 5-10 depending on the type of road and/or amount cop patrollment

  • About 10 km…more if I’m passing the idiot in the 1982 Honda who can’t seem to figure out that the speed limit is 100, not 75.

  • I never go over the speed limit.

  • Well, maybe occasionally, but never more than 5 over.

  • Five mph at the most.
But i’m only using a Drivers Permit, so my mom wont let me do otherwise.
    :]

  • Usually about 7-9

  • All the time…not by much, however, all the time.

  • I don’t anymore but I used to get up to 125 MPH back in the day. The five tickets in one year thing set me straight…

  • 5 to 10 depending on the area and location

  • Generally no more than 7 or 8 over, but it depends on where I’m driving. There’s certain small towns where I won’t even go 5 over because I know that their cops have nothing better to do than pull over every car that goes 1 over.

  • 5 miles over-

  • I always laugh when I see cars, plastered with Christian bumperstickers, breaking the law, speeding, being reckless, endangering others, and driving like only they own the road, That’s a really great Christian testimony, isn’t it?

    How would Jesus drive?

I seldom speed, but if I do it is usually no more than over 10 mph.  But then again, I’m not trying to look Christian.

  • I always keep it under 10 over…that’s what my dad always told me. I’ve never been pulled over.

  • Usually 0 over.  I try to go the speed limit exactly.

  • I try to stay under 10 over in order to avoid tickets, I’ll often go 15-20 over, but it’s usually more unintentional.

  • Usually about 10 over… depending on where I am it could be a little more or less.

  • Depends where you are at, ie, city versus county cops, etc.

  • I cannot drive myself,     I trust my Dad with his speed

  • in singapore, the highway’s speed limit is 90kmh. which is abt 56mph.
    ppl usually obey it. lol

  • I live in New Jersey. Speed limits are only a concept =P Actually, in all seriousness, I once talked even to a local cop in town, and he said realistically, if you’re in a 25, probably would even bother picking up up until you hit about 37 or 40… The local interstate(s) in my area, 65 is dangerous because you’ll get one person going 65 and everyone else going 75+ and it causes accidents. So, yeah…speed limits are relative in my area =P

  • *wouldn’t even bother

  • oh, and of course, you need to OBSERVE. see, the theory is speed in numbers. if you have a cluster of about 25 cars going 75 or 80, you’re cool, which is very common on interstates. Actually, i’ve gone past cops, during rush hour, almost looking them in the eye with their radar guns in hand in a 65mph zone, they don’t care. They’re out there trying to get the people that are going 90…100..110. general statement, usually accurate ;)

  • I usually do 5-10 over, although I try to keep to 5-7 over…unless I’m on the Beltline (US 12, 14, 18, and 151) going around Madison when the city, county, and state are running a speed sting.  Then it is well advised to stick to the speed limit or below as there are usually at least 30 cops in the 17 miles of the beltline.  They like to use the State Patrol’s aircraft in addition to both car and motorcycle cops.
The funny part is, the morning news crews always broadcast when the stings are going to take place, so everyone should be warned.  It’s amazing how many people still get caught those days!

  • Depends.  I’ve done about 60 mph above the limit before…
In general, I try to ride with traffic.  When there is little or no traffic, I usually end up around 10 mph over the limit on city streets, and about 110 mph (regardless of the speed limit) on highways.

  • 5 tops. I’m a pretty new driver.

  • 5-9 above the limit…the one time i went 15 over I got a ticket so I’m sticking to the former number .

  • Depends on the area. On local roads, I usually go around 40 mph. On highways, around 85 mph.

  • 5 miles per hour usually.

  • 60 ;]
jk i dont drive yet, but i’ll stick to 5-15 when i do.

  • It’s all relative to area / time / traffic. But I bought a radar gun specifically because I own a mazda3. Zoom Zoom is a motto for a reason! On usual i’ll do what traffic is doing with maybe plus 5 if I can navigate the openings. Other than that it’s fair game, hell I once did a 4 hour drive in 2.

  • None.  I kind of have my temps and would be in huge trouble if I got a speeding ticket.  But even when I get my license I don’t plan on speeding.

Everyone always gets mad at me and passes me when I go the limit . . .

  • 5 usually, ive never gotten a speeding ticket before and dont want one

  • The signs do say speed LIMIT, not “suggested speed.”  I try to stay under the limit. (boring, and annoying, but very law-abiding)

  • Looks like, according to the pope, you should render unto Ceasar:

Thou Shalt Not Run a Red Light

Have road rage, say Hail Mary’s. In June the Vatican issued a list of 10 Commandments for drivers as part of a 36-page document titled “Guidelines for the Pastoral Care of the Road.” According to the document, driving brings out the “primitive” side of man and cars can be “an occasion of sin.” The guidelines call for such things as respecting speed limits and not using cell phones behind the wheel. But en-route praying is encouraged, the document says, because the “rhythm and gentle repetition” of the Rosary “does not distract the driver’s attention.”

  • I don’t. I go the speed limit, except on the interstate where the posted limit is 55, but everyone goes between 65 and 90. I usually opt for 70.

  • I usually go about 60 regardless of the speed limit. Unless it’s over 60.

  • i don’t. if i were to get a ticket i would have to say good-bye to driving. i have been driving for 8 months now :]]

  • 10-20… although if I’m having fun, I’ve been known to exceed 100. (only on the freeway though)

  • My dh is a state trooper, and he is known to be a hard-ass.  His record is a string of 5 cars pulled over at one time.  The trick of tailgating doesn’t work in this area!  LOL  Even though he’s a hard-ass, he’s always polite and fair.  He doesn’t think it’s fair to cut breaks just becase he happens to know the driver.

I tend to push my luck.  I know what the policy is for tickets on each highway around here, but that hasn’t stopped me from getting a few tickets!  I do stay within 5 mph of the limit in the states to the south and east, as their tickets are major expensive!!

  • I’m wondering the same thing as consideringlily.

Anyway, I try to drive less than 20 mph over the speed limit. I’d like to keep my DL.

  • If I decide to speed, it’s only 5 over. But I hardly ever do that because I hate it when people speed.
