  • Harry Potter

JK Rowling has indicated that it is possible that she may write an eighth Harry Potter book.

    JK Rowling

She has indicated that if she were to write an eighth book that it is unlikely that Harry Potter would be a central character.  Here is the link:  Link

Do you think JK Rowling should write an eighth Harry Potter book or do you think she should let the series die with the last book?

  • it’s over

  • woah, was that first?

  • Die….just let it die!!!

  • No. She’s finished it, there’s nothing more to write. Unless she does an adult series.

  • What is there LEFT to write about?
It would be extremely boring. She should just let it end.

  • Technically if it doesn’t revolve around Harry it isn’t part of the Harry Potter septology or whatever you want to call it. It’s just in the same universe.

    Biiig difference.

An 8th HP book = instant suck
Another book in the HP universe = possibly okay.

  • i interpreted her statement as creating totally new characters that live in the harry potter world.  i have no problems with that.  it’s sort of like the hobbit and lord of the rings.

  • She’s writing an encylopedia to the wizarding world, but she said it might take ten years.

  • Pleaseeeeeee!!! Let it die… I would be so happy to never hear the prase “Harry Potter” again.

  • she left a lot of loose ends. I, personally, would read a series about when Harry’s parents and their friends were at Hogwarts. I’d also read the proposed encylopedia of the Harry Potter world if it ever gets written (as that would clear up loose ends as well).
My friends and I are in the middle of a Harry Potter movie marathon right now, so I’m thinking along those lines…

  • i swear god. if she writes another book, i will kill her. i work at a fuckin’ bookstore, and i never. ever. want to have to deal with those books again.

  • RYC: Haha, you called it… I already started reading the Daily Show one, it’s interesting. I don’t know when I’m gonna find the time to read them all, though.

  • She should let it go. I’m sick of wizard freaks.

  • It seems to wrong to write another book in the Harry Potter Series, and not have Harry Potter as the main character. Besides, is there even anything else to add?

What- is his fabulously named son Albus Severus [step up from the name "Sirius Hedwig Dobby", that I heard he was considering...] going to lose HIS family, and have to seek out the Dark Wizard who did it, while finding out the his parents’ best friends Ron and Hermione don’t desrve to be in Azkaban… and yeah…. it can go on and on and on, and eventually kill the whole series.

  • As much as I love the book, I think writing an 8th book would just kinda…ruin the series.

  • Eh.

She should rewrite the ending for the last book.

  • mm fascinating! theres not really much left to say about Harry Potter unless its about the adult life, but even thats gonna get boring.. But if its about different characters existing within the world Harry lives in, that would be cool.

  • she shouldn’t write another one.

  • do not write another one….

  • A spin off kind.. Not about Harry Potter..  Maybe about the school itself with many different character..

  • Eh.  She killed off Snape, so the book is dead.
Though I would like to see the adventures of the new wee ones, and learn more about the older characters.

  • If Harry Potter is not a central character, it’s not really a Harry Potter book. I enjoy her writing and the world she created, so I would like it if she continued writing books about that world.

  • my uneducated guess is that she’ll cover something from the past- like the lives of his mother and father or that of Dumbledore’s earlier days.

which reminds me… have you SEEN THE MYSTERIOUS TICKING NOISE ON YOU TUBE???

its awesome hilarious and stupid all at once!

  • If it doesn’t have HP as the central character, it is not a HP book.

  • Harry Potter VIII: Harry Potter and the Corporate Sell-Out.

  • I don’t think she should really. Too many important characters died. Besides, what’s she going to write about? What, is the world going to find out that Voldemort had a long lost son that he didn’t know about who suddenly finds out that he is Voldemorts son after a lifetime of not knowing, probably through his mother’s will or a letter he finds, and decides to revenge his father’s death by terrorizing Harry’s family and is eventually killed by Harry’s youngest son? Or would it simply be about Harry’s kids going to school at Hogwarts? Then she could name the book something like Hogwarts: the Next Generation or something.

Some series are just better left alone.

  • AH man……….Harry Potter is okay…..can’t believe it’s SO popular it’s not AMAZING but the MOVIES ARE…..but if she fails at writing another one in same universe……it will spoil the reputation of it….i have a friend dedicates his LIFE to Harry potter….also who would be the villain?…….bringin’ back Voldemort is NOT a good idea….. :deep in thought:
If she can pull it off but sure why not?
I bet that when she makes that encyclopedia she will put the history of harry AFTER Book 7……

  • she would anger billions of fans by creating an 8th book because it could never live up to the expectations. she’ll just have a bunch of engraged muggles…

  • that would totally kill it… i’d still read it, and so would everyone else, but it would not be as special as any of the others.

  • Just…let it go.

    <33

  • Just let it die.

….Even though I’d probably read it if it came out, just ’cause I read all the others. The curiosity would get to me.

  • Though, I do like the idea that someone threw in(forgot who) : a book about Harry’s parents and friends at Hogwarts….that could possibly be interesting.

…..Though it also has the ENORMOUS potential to suck.

  • ryc – big enough to a) make a chemist talk like a moron b) make a Christian forsake Biblical principles c) devour 1/4 of every day (at minimum) d) give up all previous hobbies and/or e) ignore friends.

So to answer your question: big enough, Dan – big enough.

  • RYC: Yeah, I mean…it certainly doesn’t hurt anything, it’s a good way to manipulate kids into not starting…haha

  • I’m not sure.
As much as I hated for the series to end Idk if I want it to start back up because it went out with such a bang.
The last book was a really good book & I kind of want it to remain that way.
But then again I do miss that magical world.

    I’m so torn!
    But excited.

Now that I think about it.. the whole idea of the Harry Potter books was to go through the journey with Harry to try to conquer Voldemort. Is there going to be another good ending/journey/story line/whatever to the 8th book? Something to look forward to at the end?

  • Its time to let it go, she doesn’t need the money. Unless shes bored!

  • As a huge Harry fan, I say let the series die…

  • I lovelovelove HP.
But if she writes another book.

I’ll go to her house and beat her with a shoe.

  • did anyone who is saying “it’s over” actually read the book?

sure she answered questions to the loose ends in an interview, but what a good deal that did us… if she wants to write another book then i’ll read it. i’d love to read about that world. the last book sucked ass anyways, she needs to make up for it somehow.

  • a book about his parents, hagrid, or dumbledore as kids would be interesting… a book about grown-up harry potter or his horribly named kids playing with ron’s kids would be lame-o!

  • Ohhh, when will it EVER end???

  • Let it die. I can’t stand all this harry potter stuff.

  • I agree with most of the comments, leave it be , J.K! But if she was to write in the HP universe, that didn’t involve HP himself, then it would be ok.

    ’nuff said…

  • New characters is good.
    Like, their children.

But with Harry, she should let it go. The deed is done. =]

  • She getting the green fever?

  • I loved the Harry Potter series; but if she keeps dragging it on I really think she will lose credibility as the great writer that she is.

  • I agree with the people who are saying that it would be a cool to have a new series that’s in the wizarding world.

But an 8th book that has to do with Harry and the other people, etc. from the current books, even if he isn’t one of the main characters, could ruin the series itself.

  • How about she just publishes The Tales of Beetle Bard? I want to read that stupid book.

  • id actually really like to read more about it.  no more books about harry, but about the wizarding world? totally.

  • Let it die woman!  She is a friggin’ money/attention whore.

  • just let it go man!

  • She should have let it die before she ever had the idea for the series.

  • I think it depends on whether she’s going to go with the future or the past since a prequel to the series could be interesting.

  • harry and friends shouldn’t play a big role. starting a new series in hogwarts that’s as successful as harry potter 1-7 would be difficult.

  • Never seen any of them, so I could care less what she does with it, unless she says I can have the royalties…then I say go for it.

  • hp is over. she could however, start a different series with a different central character, but with the same wizarding world

  • I think she should let it die. It’s been set to be seven forever…I feel like she’s selling out.

  • Let it die you with dignity you bitch.

  • seeing it end is like losing a bestfriend. (OUCH)

  • She is writing another one…but it won’t be for sale to the public.

  • I never want it to end…more please!

  • Ok, seriously, it’s over now. I enjoyed the Harry Potter books and all but they’re done now. The only way I could see this done in a way I would read it is if she wrote about the first war with Voldemort and Harry’s Parents and all that. But even then, I think it would be better to let it go.

Plus, Harry Potter is the wankiest fandom ever. Seriously.

” it’s sort of like the hobbit and lord of the rings. ”

Not so much, seeing as how The Hobbit was written 12 years before Lord of the Rings was published.

  • Honestly, I think she should let the series die. >>;

Stop trying to milk the cow for all its worth, Rowling!. D<

  • i believe she’ll write an eighth Harry Potter book

  • I wouldn’t mind. I’ve been a fan for years and was a little sad to
see it end. If the book were to come out I’d definetly read it.

  • LET IT DIE!  i hate that she swore up and down that there would only be seven and now she’s switching.  i absolutely LOVED harry potter, bought them all, but i think it should be done.

  • I do not know.     It might ruin the series maybe

  • My first thought is, “Awesome!” I would totally read an 8th Harry Potter book. But, you know, one that centralizes on the kids.

  • For the moment, good enough should be left alone. She made her millions, why try to distroy the main character of the book.

  • As much as I would love more books, I don’t think she has a great chance of making it very good.  The only thing I can think of that would make it decent is if she wanted to explore the characters that she didn’t go into as much as she said she wanted to like Seamus & Luna, but really who cares if it’s not about Harry???

  • I am tired of hearing about Harry Potter…

  • maybe she should write about life before Harry was born.
or maybe she should write about the life of Draco Malfoy. haha i love the Malfoys ><

  • I saw some of the movies because my kids wanted to see them but would never read the books ever! I think it ought to go bye bye also. UGH

  • the series is done. please. more HP books means more HP movies which i think suck terribly. the series ended well; it does not deserved to be continued. let the legions of fanfiction writers do that.

  • I think she should stick to some OTHER series. . .

    or do a a prequal. . .

but don’t continue and do another Harry Potter book, but without Harry potter IN It because that would just defy the whole reason for the book’s being. . .

  • no she should not write an 8th book

  • she killed Fred.  the book needs to die.  harry should have died, not fred.

  • i don’t think she should. she should let the harry potter series have a clean and definitive ending. and besides, what’s the point of writing a “harry potter” book if the central character isn’t even harry potter?!

  • I think it’s been wrapped up pretty nicely…

  • J.K Rowling …writing a wizardly Harry Potter book without H.P as the main character ARE YOU KIDDING!!! LET IT DIE….plsssssssssseeee.

  • a marauder era one[or several] would be nice

  • I think a spinoff could be cool…or a story on how Harry and the crew officially got married etc after the series…or what jobs they do now since she didn’t say ANY of that when she ended it.

  • I’m all for another one. I love Harry Potter.

  • I know she had talked of making a sort of encyclopedia of sorts that gave the back stories on a lot of characters and other little plot situations that had to get edited out. I think that sort of book would be great for us die hard fans. However I think that the series ended well and if she were to unearth it she would almost have to go the way of other fantasy writers and write a whole ‘nother series following a slightly different aspect (Neville perhaps? Harry’s parents? The Marauders?) She’s an excellent writer and I will look forward to anything she writes whether it’s based off the world of Harry Potter or not.

  • no more potter books please!

what happens when a new book comes out is that the nerdy, obsessed people read the book in one night, and proceed to ruin it for the normal ones who take at least a week to read it.

so then people are forced to read superfast, which makes it less enjoyable, and more like a chore.

  • I would read it

  • If she were to write another one I don’t think it would be as good as the first 7. The books are finished let them lie. However, if she were to write a book about people in the same fantasy world it would be ok. Just no more Harry

  • just let it die already!

  • i want her to write another one! i think the next generation needs to be in it.. maybe she can call it one of harry potter’s sons’ or daughter’s names?

  • Write, woman, write!

  • First off… if you have not read the books in the first place then some would not understand what it means to others who have read the whole series.

She STILL left readers of the Harry Potter series hanging at the very end in my opinion…there were many things she said would be answered in the book which were not.

To me as a fan/reader…if it does not contain Harry Potter and the people who surround him, I would much rather her to write something completely different.

  • An eighth book would be fantastic! Not about Harry, though. I think she’s told just about everything there is to be told about Harry. I’d like to see her write about the Marauders and Lily and Snape when they were at Hogwarts.

  • Mneh, as long as she doesn’t force it out just to make an eighth book, I don’t see a problem.

If she just writes it because it felt good to write it, then go for it =3

  • She made her millions. THe series should be done.

  • Lol, almost every writer says they will never write a book about one of their characters again, only to change their minds and write a story. I just found out that one of my favorite characters, who was”deactivated” for parts( he was a robot that thought he was human) in a book I read almost 20 years ago, is coming back in a new book, I thought when the author had him “deactivated” that she wouldn’t bring him back.

  • well i think she just keep writing

  • oh please.

There’s a group on Facebook called “my childhood ended when I finished hp7″ or something along those lines. Harry Potter is just something that’s always been there, and I would love if it continued.

  • i think the 7th book is enough. nuff said.

  • you know, i don’t know. i’m a huge potter fan, but i felt like the series ended perfectly with deathly hallows. so of course i would love another book, but i’m not sure it would work.

  • i dont know if i get 2 see another movie w/ rupert grint than sure if not j.k rowling shouldentevn bother

  • geez how hungry for money can u get?

  • diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie

  • (GASP) YOU MADE MY DAY OMG (DIES)

    <— /loser.

  • she should consult Joss Whedon about ways to continue a pop culture phenomenon without being overbearing? a comic? although I don’t know what’s left to write about unless she focuses on the trio’s children or goes back to explaining Harry’s parents’ secrets before they died.

  • It is a money maker ! She is probably running short from her $ 73474636736364777266354672635476253674.00 trillion she made from all her other books. Why kill the golden goose.

  • It’s okay if it’s in the same world (look at Tolkein, for example. Or for a less interesting but embarrassingly addicting read, Tamora Pierce). It shouldn’t be put out as another of the “Harry Potter” series, though.

  • WRITE ANOTHER!!!!!
