  • Sentimental Value of a Gift

I received my “Secret Santa” gift from Jennie_Nguyen.  It was a Christmas basket with chocolate, tea and all kinds of treats in it.  I was so happy to get it.  The “Secret Santa” was sponsored by Slutburger_with_Cheese.

I sent my gift out to the person that I was given.  She is supposed to get it by Saturday at noon.  I can’t say who it is until she gets the gift.  I did get her a basket from Bed Bath and Beyond.  The basket had everything from lotion to spray to a candle.  I went a little over on the price but I figured it was better to over deliver than under deliver.

I put the ‘gift receipt” with the gift.  It doesn’t tell the price but gives the person receiving the gift the receipt just in case the lotions and sprays are not really the fragrance the person wants.  My wife said that it was the best approach.  I was a little concerned that it took away from the heart of the gift.

I guess these days with regifting, gift receipts and gift cards I wonder if the giving of gifts has lost its sentimental value.

Do you think putting a gift receipt in with the gift takes away from its sentimental value?

  • Fighting

You may remember back when I was tired of my son getting beat up.  I worked with him a little.  I told him he had to stand up for himself.  We have raised our kids to not fight.  But there appeared to be no choice but to prepare him to defend himself.

So yesterday he got in a fight.  And now he has been kicked out of school for 3 days.

The thing that got me was that the school didn’t kick the other kid out.  They said the other boy had pushed my son and the versions of who pushed who first is what is being argued.

But the assistant principal saw my son punching him.  So it was determined that both kids had done some pushing and my son says the other kid punched him.  The assistant principal said that she didn’t see the other kid punching him but that she questioned a few kids around the situation.

The assistant principal wouldn’t tell me what the other kid’s punishment was because of privacy issue but she said pushing was different than punching.

    Is pushing different than punching?

  • Dear Margo

DEAR MARGO: I was checking out my 12-year-old daughter’s MySpace (she knows I do this as a condition of her having it) and found my 14-year-old niece’s MySpace (that my brother and sister-in-law do not know she has), where she alluded to having a “relationship” with a lesbian friend.

The last time we spoke, my sister-in-law said she was wary of this girl, so I don’t know whether I should tell her what I found. They live several states away, and we only see each other a few times a year. Their daughter is a good kid, and I don’t want to cause problems, especially if my niece learns how her parents found out.

If it were my daughter, I’d want to know so I could at least talk to her about it. This kid is barely 14 years old.”  Here is the link:  Link

Should the lady tell her sister-in-law about her daughter’s lesbian “relationship?”

  • Christmas Gifts

I am almost done with Christmas shopping for my wife.  I have bought her a few gifts but I need one more idea.

Give me a good gift idea for my wife at under a $100.

  • Statutory Rape

We talked the other day about how Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant at the age of 16.  It has been reported that her boyfriend is the father and that he is 19.  Some are saying he may be only 18.

If he is 19 and the act happened in Louisiana, he could face up to 10 years in prison.  Here is the link:  Link

Do you think a 19-year-old deserves 10 years in prison for having sex with a 16-year-old?

  • Hillary Clinton and Wrinkles

I mentioned this article in my photoblog:  Link

Is it sexist to discuss Hillary’s wrinkles?

  • Blaming the Mother

I have noticed people are blaming the mother of Jamie Lynn Spears.

    Lynne Spears

Her daughter is pregnant at the age of 16 so it must be her fault.  Plus Britney is out of control so that shows a pattern.  (Not sure why we don’t blame the father.  If he wasn’t involved in their lives, I wonder what kind of impact that would have on Jamie Lynn and Britney).

I see parents that have kids go to jail.  I see parents who have their kids get hooked on drugs.  Some of these parents at least on the surface appear to be loving and caring parents.

Based on what we know, can we blame the mother?

  • Jamie Lynn Spears Part 3

The majority of people think that 16 is too young to have a baby.

And yet the typical teenager doesn’t use birth control or doesn’t use it correctly.  Here is the link:  Link

  • Jamie Lynn Spears Part 2

I mentioned in my last post that Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant.

Jamie Lynn Spears in Los Angeles, March 31, 2007. Britney Spears' ...

One of the discussions in the last post revolved around the age of pregnancy and whether it was too young to get pregnant.  In fact, the reason this is more than a footnote is partially because she is only 16.  One commenter mentioned there were at least 10 young people pregnant in his high school.

Is 16 too young to get pregnant?
