  • CPR

A boy that is only 11, helped save his father when their car rolled over.

    Lachlan Nally

He gave his dad CPR and then ran 3km for help.  His dad is still in serious condition in the hospital.  Here is the link:  Link

If you needed to save someone’s life using CPR, do you think you could do it?

  • of course. remember your abc’s. :)

  • Wow…. wow…

  • I might accidentally kill that person.

  • dude…I wish

but seriously that’s amazing i didn’t know 11 year olds learned CPR

    i could run though

  • I’d sure as hell try, even though no one’s taught me how to do anything that requires saving someone else’s life.

  • Thanks to a well-spent afternoon learning to make out with a plastic doll (no…not that kind) courtesy of the American Red Cross, yes I could.

  • uh…  yes…  O.o

  • That’s why I learned it.

  • I know how to do CPR. I knew how to since I was twelve.

But, I don’t want their gross, going-to-die saliva mixing with my non-dying saliva.

  • ya–as a critical care nurse i do it quite a bit.

it makes a big difference in how people survive, and what kind of brain power they end up surviving with, when cpr is started immediately when they arrest outside of a hospital. if you wait for the paramedics to arrive, it’s usually too late for a meaningful recovery.take a class. you never know when you’ll have the opportunity to save someone’s life.

  • I hope so. I’ve learned many times, but it would probably all leave under pressure.

That kid must be a Boy Scout or something! Props to him!

  • It is pretty basic knowledge. I might not TECHNICALLY do it right, but I bet I could at least HELP.

  • its not that hard actually…

  • yes because I am CPR certified :D

  • Technically, I have my little CPR certification card and everything, but…o__O I don’t know if I could actually perform CPR, should the ‘opportunity’ come up. Props to the kid, big time.

  • maybe the more important question for americans is, could they run 3 km?

  • I was actually trained to do it so yes I can definitely administer it and would try to.

  • yeah, between training and instinct

  • Yes, although I’m long overdue for recertification.

  • I’ve been trained for CPR and First Aid every year since I was a senior in high school – so for about 6 years now. I’ve never had to use it, thank goodness. I always think that I will freak out in a true emergency and forget everything!

  • medically cpr certified for  my massage therapy practice but it still frightens me at the thought of having to use it

  • no….let them die!

  • I haven’t updated my CPR certification, but I was certified once. I could do it… but one can only hope it’s effective.

  • I don’t think so.  And I definitely would not be able to run 3km.

  • I’d sure as hell try. Though everything I know about CPR I learned from tv. Well, I also learned from the royal rangers (church run boy scouts. my dad’s a ”comander.” up until I was 15 I was trying to join) that 9 times out of 10 the person will vomit into your mouth. And usually CPR breaks some ribs.

  • If television has thus far portrayed it correctly, then I think so.

  • No, because if you accidentally kill them instead, then you’ve got manslaughter charges to deal with. Fuck that shit.

  • Wow…that’s incredible…I don’t know CPR, and I don’t know if I’d be thinking straight at that point even if I did…

  • I could only hope my training was sufficient.

    That’s one brave little boy.

  • I honestly dont know….

What a fabulously brave little boy!

  • I was certified in CPR and First Aid many years ago.  Time to update I guess but it’s not like you forget how.

  • I’ve never been officially certified, but I remember elementary school health times where we learned stuff like that, and I’ve been a volunteer at the hospital (can you believe they didn’t require CPR certification?) and I am confident that I could correctly perform CPR – and hopefully the person would not be beyond saving.

  • No,   even though I went to scouts when I was younger I have forgot most of it

  • Your comment gave me a cold shudder.

  • In theory, yes.  I think I can remember all the basics for adult, child, and infant CPR, though it;s been a while since I took my last class.  Which reminds me that it probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to re-read the pamplets I have on it…

  • @DrugInducedDuck -

Actually, unless you’re a medically trained personel, no one can bring charges against you for trying to help someone by giving them CPR even if you royally fuck up.  It;s the Good Samaritan law.  You also cannot be held liable if you choose *not* to help if you are concerned for your safety.

  • yes. four years jeff ellis lifeguard certified and 1 year red cross lifeguard certified.

  • Yeah… I could, but I’d expect them to give me some money if they live.

  • I hope I’d be able to.  My only training was in 10th grade health class about 18 years ago, but if I had to I’d certainly try.

  • sure… a few cracked ribs are certainly better than a lost life

  • Great kid!

I’ve been trained in CPR numerous times.  I think I could do it.  I’ve never had to and really hope I don’t have to, but certainly am willing and, I think, able.

  • What are you asking in regard to CPR.  Would you do it because you know how, or could you emotionally get into it even if you were never taught?

My answer is that I have only seen it on TV but, sure I would offer help to anyone who apparently needed it.

  • I think I could…

but I’d need to practice first!

    *HUGS*

  • First off, sooo great that he knew CPR at such a young age.  Kudos to whatever school or organization taught him that.  (assuming one did).

Second.  When I was 16 I was first on the scene to a motorcycle accident.  Single vehicle.  It was after 3:00am and it was on a back country road.  Performed CPR and brought him back to consciousness, but he died before the paramedics arrived.  Regardless of the outcome, I thank The Boy Scouts of America for my training and the training they do every year for young men across the country.

  • Yeah but IDK about the running 3K part. He would have died on my watch if I had to run 3K lol.

  • I have had training in CPR and first aid, but have not had to use it very often.  When my oldest son was  less than a year old, he started choking on some food.  We used the infant method of the heimlich maneuver.  It was really strange, because I don’t recall even having to think about it, but it was a great relief when the food came out of his mouth very easily.

A nurse once told me that CPR looks easier than it really is, and that even with CPR many heart attack victims do not survive, which is really hard on those who attempted CPR or rescue breathing.  Also, on older people, ribs will often crack or break during CPR, making the rescuer feel bad about that, too.

I think the child can be commended, and God can be glorified that the boy was able to help his father.

    God bless and take care.

  • Oh, another thing to think of is that a victim needing CPR or rescue breathing will often vomit.  Now, could you give CPR with mouth to mouth to someone who had vomited,or who was bleeding from their mouth?

  • I’d try. Unless they were like trying to kill me first. Then I’d laugh.

  • yes.  but more importantly, dan, which of the following is correct?

    1.  A boy that is only 11, helped save his father when their car rolled over.

    2.  A boy who is only 11 helped save his father when their car rolled over.

  • I sure as hell hope so with the money we’ve spent on first aid courses.

  • Well, i’m a nurse, so i’m required to know CPR.  i’ve saved lives using it, and failed at other times.

  • i am cpr certified in not only adults, but children, infants, and pets as well – so yes.

  • I think I could, I’ve had the training for it and all, but it’d be hard to work up the nerve to.

  • I took the class ages ago….So I can only say that (God willing) I really HOPE I could!

  • I think, with the adrenaline rush someone would get, that they would remember CPR.  I believe I could do it!

  • That is simpy amazing. Kudos to the boy! I don’t think I’d ever be able to do that. I don’t even know how to give CPR. >.< Maybe this is a headsup that I should get certified.

  • I really don’t know. It’s been years since I took a CPR class.

  • Yes. I’ve been in the situation, but he was already dead by the time I got there.

  • i hope so, i’m a certified lifeguard.

  • omg brave and smart kid

  • I don’t know if I could or not.   I’ve never had CPR classes, but I would like to.

  • Life guard for 5 years! Whoop! All those years of laying by the pool paid off. I could definitely do it.

  • Wow, that’s awesome what Lochie did.

I really hope I could do it, considering I just became CPR certified as of January 18th this year.

My concern is, will I remember all the steps if I am ever in a situation that requires quick action like that?  I hope so.

  • I’ve never really learned CPR so probably not.

  • I’d like to think I could, but I have no idea what the situation would be like when it came. I think it all boils down to how you handle pressure. I think I could, but I hope I never have to find out.

  • Had the training a few times.  Hope so.

  • I think I probably could.

  • Probably not. I’m not trained save for high school health classes, so I’d probably break some ribs. but I’d try. I know how to do it– keep arms straight, 5 breaths, 30 compressions, end on breaths. But I don’t know I could use it.

  • Definitely, hands down, no doubt I would do the CPR.  I’ve never been trained formally for it or anything but if it came down to it I’ve seen it done enough times.

An 11 year old boy…thats amazing.  All hope isn’t lost for today’s kids :]

Most 11 year olds I hear about these days are smoking pot and impregnanting themselves/each other.

  • amazing…
    ?

  • In the hospital, I’m obligated to
outside of clinical, of course, I’m certified.

  • 3km?!? goddamn, he should have his name legally changed to “WonderKid”.

  • nopes, but i’d try anyhow

  • I certainly would if I had to; had the training in order to become a teacher.  I was in that situation once, but we were too late – he was already gone, and it would have taken a defibrillator used within 5 minutes to get him back; CPR wouldn’t have been enough.

  • I could do it -

  • Can do it and have done it.

Thank God for Mr. Pease in high school gym – he fought hard to make sure we were certified every year.  Every day I think god that he did, as it help me when my son was chocking on food at 1 1/2 years old.

  • Certainly – I would try my best….

  • Yeppers…certified and all that

  • I don’t know that I could “run” 3km these days.

  • yes.

    signed, the lifeguard

  • I haven’t learned CPR, but if I did then yes, I would. Who wouldn’t want to save someone’s life?

  • yes I could.

heck, if I can remember how to deep-water backboard someone after knocking myself out for 3 minutes, I can remember how to give CPR

  • If I knew how.

  • no… not in a million years (that is if i’m still alive)

    that boy is brave o_o

  • Heck yes!  I used to volunteer as a EMT in my local ambulance during my college years.
