Change Machine
A change machine at a casino was accidently giving out $20 bills instead of $5 bills. Someone accidently loaded $20 bills in the cartridge instead of $5 bills.

It took a day and a half before someone pointed out the problem and $27,500 had already been lost. Here is the link: Link
The funny thing is everyone always claims they wouldn’t do it and yet $27,500 came up missing.
If you happened on this change machine, how many $20s would you take before you stopped?

Ehhh just a couple!
3 or 4…
I’d like to think that I wouldn’t take any.
couple hundred $$$ worth probably
zero
as much as i could without getting caught
id like to think i also wouldnt take any. if it happens to me, i’ll find out.
Put in a 20, gain 5x that?
How long will it take before people notice I’ve been standing around the machine a little too long?
I wouldnt take the money willingly but If I ended up taking the money it would have been on an accident of not counting my money.
alot. probabaly. because well… id like to think i wouldnt do it but i know i would.
that doesnt make me a very honest person now does it?
@DiosDePyro - Haha!!! So true!
“The funny thing is everyone always claims they wouldn’t do it”
You are talking about a casino, the people going to them do not make up best demographic. Not if you are looking for people to trust with money.
No I would not take even one. I also don’t go gambling, so i would not be there to start with.
just one, so that I have something to show the casino. I have been in the position before of getting extra money and I have always turned it in before. so I before I would do it again.
@kboy25 - I so freaking agree!
And las thing taking even one, makes you a thief. So if your are going to be a thief, at least be a good one and take all you can carry.
I’m a college student who was forced to go to school part time so she could work her way through school at Domino’s and still comes up short almost every month
… how much do you think I would take? That ^ in itself should answer the question
I don’t understand how they can make people give the money back.
though I’d like to think that it does, my situation doesn’t really justify cheating fat and rich old men out of money they don’t need now does it?
as many as I could!
I’d empty the thing out. It’s the first casino game where you always win 400% of what you bet.
enough to buy something i wanted. theres a broadway jazz dance class i want to take, and it costs $175. theres your answer.
Strangely, I don’t feel sorry for this casino. I’m pretty sure they can cope.
But someone’s so getting fired.
I’m human, to say I wouldn’t is a LIE! =P
if i was at a casino i would put small bills in and get 20′s back until i ran out of money. casino’s take advantage of people and steal from them 24/7 – this is just karma.
Enough.
As much as I could. Preferably at least 50.
I wish I could say none…but I don’t know. Depends on whether or not I was strapped for cash…and since it’s in a casino, I probably would be strapped for cash.
Probably more than I should.
27,500 may be gone.
but how do we know this isn’t all the work of one or two greedy people who pretty quickly figured out it was giving 4 times the amount. . .
I would like to think I wouldn’t, but then we find out about ourselves when put in these situations.
In a casino I’d probably think it was a “give back” promotional program. So, the question is, how many would it give me? That is about how many I would take.
Until I couldn’t carry anymore =X
Casinos purposely stack the odds against people who are already not spending their money as wisely as possible with the hopes of ripping those people off.
Now I’m not saying those people were justified, but…
How much fun is cops & robbers when you have to spend the whole time playing the cop?
However many would keep me under the radar of being a felony.
I believe most people in my community will point it out.
This is a follow-up email I got this morning:
Bonjour à tous,
Unfortunately, no one has claimed the money that was found. As a result of this, I will donate the money to a charity.
All the best,
Diane

An email I got 2 weeks ago, the original email:
Bonjour à tous,
I am wondering if anyone might have had some problems with the Graham Spry ATM machine (just outside the cafeteria) either late yesterday evening or early this morning. If so please contact me as I retrieved some money from the ATM this morning that might belong to you.
Regards,
Diane
In a casino? As many as it spit out at me.
how many 20s would it take to empty it out?
LOL…drain it out!
enough to cover the difference between the price of vodka on retail and the price they charge for a cocktail in the casino
You know… don’t ask me why but I am guessing that a casino is not where you find a bumper crop of honest people.
I have walked stickers back into Walmart efore because they got left in the cart and not paid for… I am sure that I would report the 20′s to someone…
As much as I could. :]
Then I’d break one $20 and get some more.
@raizhafae -
Casinos may steal from people, but the people that go into casinos and gamble away their money stupidly are just asking for it.
I wouldn’t take any of it. The bank accidentally gave us double of a check for 1200 that we put in, and we went to the bank and let them know of their mistake as soon as we noticed it in our funds. It just isn’t worth it.
take the money and run…
As many as I could.
I won’t lie.
<33
All of them.
When I was in college… probably quite a few. Now? I hope I would not take any and would report it to management…. I think I would do that…. but I’m not 100% sure.
ryc: LOL no. but i went last night hehehe. happy hr @ d&b is great. 1/2 off drinks!!
It depends on how badly I needed money. As of right now I would probably go question someone right away.
I’ll take them whatever I can get my hands on.
all of them
With the textbook and tuition situation now… I think I’d take as many as I can.
as many as the machine would spit out!
I don’t gamble so I wouldn’t be using onew of those machines. But if I was a gambler, that would be pretty stupid to not keep putting in money to get the 20′s. Must gamblers are would cheat to win a buck. If that machine was at say a kids place that has a money changer for games, it wouldn’t have gone that long. I’d like to think I would report it on the first time it screwed up on me…..AND SCREW IT UP FOR EVERYONE ELSE mawahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!
I’d keep “Accidentally” putting five dollar bills into the machine, and taking the money.
I swear, I tripped and the bill fell right in!
well since casions rip ppl off and are bad in general, I would take as many as I could…
jk
actually i wouldn’t know what to do.
until they noticed what I was doing…
None I would feel too guilty. I’m not all morally perfect, I would worry about Karma though and bad luck at the casino.
anyone who says none obviously has no life.
the only thing I would be worried about is getting caught. casinos have cameras on those money machines at all times. i dont know if they would be so forgiving when they saw my picture on the screen.
At a casino? I’d stand there till it stopped spitting them out! They sure as heck don’t feel bad about taking out money!! ha ha
@innerblondness - It’s called honesty! I call that living myself
I’d like to say “none”, but I don’t know for sure. I think it might be more likely that I would take whatever # of 5′s I was supposed to get back because I would probably have just taken the money, counted the # of bills, and then walked away.
Probably just the once because I’d think it was a fluke. Something similar happened at work…only it was the coffee machine giving out free coffee.
i’d like to say that i wouldn’t do that…but i probably would.
I had a dream about that a few months ago, actually. Crazy.
It would entirely depend on how much I was down at the slot machines.
That’s funny. I wold take plenty, but the guilt would eat at me for a lifetime. There was a similar story here in Wisconsin – a gas station accidentally priced the gas at 30 cents or some crazy amount and the first person to notice the glitch called all of his friends to fill up their tanks instead of calling the gas station owner to let him know. It’s human nature – greed.
Everybody claims they wouldn’t?
Excuse, I know I’m going to hell. I’m looking forward to insuring that’s where I end up. I’m going to have a lot of fun on my way.
I would be humping that machine till the security pried me off with a crowbar.
as many as i could before a line started accumulating
None. I know better than that, thank-you very much. I’d be the person that ruins everyone’s fun by telling someone who works at the casino about it.
Treat that bitch like the UFC. MAKE IT TAP OUT!
I would be the one to turn in the machine as being out of order. Sorry, that is just the way I am.
I would take all of them. Seriously, especially from a casino.
Ohh probably $100 or so. I’m not going to lie lol..
As many as I could
honestly
Just under the ammount where they’d come looking for me. I could go to 5, and then say I didn’t notice untill I walked away.
as many as possible.
In all honesty: probably none.
This is from the person who handed a Wal-Mart employee the Hannah Montana DS game that she found sitting on a shelf(it was supposed to be locked behind glass with the others) because she didn’t want somebody stealing it.
I’d LIKE to say I wouldn’t take any, but I know better than that…I’d probably take a few. Oh, well.
At a casino? I think I’d be too paranoid about the eye in the sky and say something right away. Elsewhere, I dunno.
I’d be too scared. I’d think it was some hidden camera show test.
I’m WAY too paranoid to take it.
.It’s the same as stealing, so I wouldnt take ANY. (It is money that isnt mine…)That’s one of those things that will come back to haunt u..
Probably just one or two.
ohh tough one, how greedy could I get, I dont know.
As many as i can before my conscience starts being a bitch.
However much I lost to the house that day, lol.
o.o;
Lots.
as many as it would give me. yeah, i’m a scumbag, but at least i’m honest about it…
without reading the article, I’m wondering if they make them all return it. If I didn’t think I’d end up returning it, I’d be in for $500 or so. It’s that age old thinking that the world ‘owes’ it to me or like taking a extra pen at work, “well they owe me for what I’ve done for them.”
yeah, I suppose it is still stealing though. I’m am not perfect and I know it.
I’d probably tell someone right away. I had that happen at a bank I worked at. The teller was short in her drawer and it turned out she sold a bundle of $20 bills to the vault that had 2 $50s in it. It then went into the ATM machine where another bank employee happened to withdraw the cash. That person actually turned it in. I don’t think many other people would have, though.
That’s funny- Casino’s aren’t honest business anyway.
I’d just take some… *wink wink*
Probably a couple 100 or so, enough to pay for 2 months rent and other bills… I wouldn’t get caught cause i would walk out as soon as my pockets were full:)
Since I don’t have $5 in my account Im disqualified
I’d take money, but I wouldn’t get greedy about it.
Until I ran out of money to feed it?
did the guy/girl get fired?
I’d punch in whatever I needed. When I realized it gave me more, I’d go find whoever was in charge and explain what was up. You don’t have to believe me.
Probably as many as I could. I have lost plenty in casino’s, so I doubt I would feel any guilt.
Lol, I’d be playing that machine all day
I wouldn’t have taken any and I would’ve reported it so they could’ve fixed it faster. It’s called stealing!
Every Last one.
Period.
umm knowing me….I prob wouldnt notice for awhile because I am always in a hurry…but do you really think the employee you told would be honest before they took a little themselves?
As it’s a casino, I don’t think I’d feel very bad getting some extra money from it. I’d never steal from a poor person or a person who needs money, but hey, it’s a casino. They purposefully make their games so that they make a ton off of people, including the people’s addictions. It’s not much different from wanting to steal from a cigarette company, or something like that. It feels Robin Hood-ish.
hello my darlin
none…
lol ALL of them! Oh, I don’t know…I would want to take them but I am sure that I would be afraid of bad karma and probably not take any. Hard to say what you would do until it actually happens.
Here’s a thought for you…if someone took them amd then gave them to a charity or to poor people on the street, or to some other worthy cause, would it still be bad?
Paige, taking one does NOT make you a theif.
You would be a theif if you manipulated the machine to do that. You would be a theif if you told the employee to switch the bills. You would NOT be a theif for taking money that spits out due to error in the way the casino is run. It’s their fault, and they paid for it.
stop? haha, I wouldn’t
Just a few.
How many would it give me? lol
None because it’s wrong. By taking money that is not yours does that consider stealing.
I’m planar for your article writings and contents fortunately.
