  • Hijacking Your Account

A 15-year-old girl had her myspace account “hijacked.”  A few of her former friends knew her password and posted on her Myspace site “sexually explicit and hateful content.”

Her mother warned other teenagers that they could avoid the same attacks “by remaining vigilant and keeping their passwords to themselves.”  Here is the link:  Link

I must have been lucky because about 30-40 different people have had my password for my xanga at one time or another in the last 3 years.

How many people have had the password to your xanga?

  • I’m the only person who has the passwords to any of my accounts. there is, however, an envelope on my kitchen table that has all sorts of “just in case” stuff, and in another envelope are the passwords to all my webpages and email accounts.

  • One: my cousin, because I have the password to hers so I can redo her site every now and then. I thought it only fair that I reciprocated her trust.

  • Errr. Did you delete your other post, which is on the same topic as this?

  • NONE! I don’t let my friends and family know about my Xanga and I keep my password closely guarded!

  • One other person has my password & she changes it whenever I have the need to get away from xanga and concentrate on school. I can trust her because she’s my best friend. Actually, we have both of each other’s passwords & really, we aren’t clever or immature enough to do anything with malicious intent.

Younger girls are such conniving little bitches…I can’t even handle it.

  • None, but I’ve known a few other people’s.
Technically my boyfriend should know mine, but he has an awful memory. I’m not worried if anything happens with us…lol
(I’d change it if that happened, anyway)

  • two other than me
but it’s not like they remember

  • Three people have my password, all are family. My mother has even made a few comments and one post

  • My password for my Xanga is the same password that I use to log back onto my computer when it goes idle.  My boyfriend knows that password, so I guess inadvertantly he knows the password to my Xanga.  But he doesn’t have a Xanga.  As much as I have asked him to get one, he refuses.  XD

  • Uh, just me, and firefox :)

  • NONE!

But I used to know someone else and it is the same as her hotmail account.  That isnt all, every time she created a new online account with some sites, I knew the new password. The list was endless there!!!!

  • My best friend knows mine. But that’s all, and I trust him completely.

No offense Dan, but you seem to be sort of a floozy with your password :D .

  • several people have known it at one point or another over the years, especially during high school. but now, just me… i’ve lost a lot of trust, i guess.

  • None…

  • 3 people: Me, Myself, and I.

  • zero other people.

  • Just me.  It’s a flipping awesome password and I don’t want anyone else to know it.  Besides, most people I know and trust aren’t even aware I have a Xanga.

  • None… Why would I want other people writing things under the guise of me.

  • None..  And it is going to stay that way..

  • a ton. I have my best friend’s password to his email account; which I like because if I send him a message and then regret it, I can delete it. I’d never use it to post explicit things… I also had his password to myspace when we were dating and I found pictures of him and another girl kissing, but I never used his myspace against him at all.

    depends on the person

and the mini just cause you rock.

by the by, the biopsy results are back: apparently, I’m very close to being abnormal, but I’m so slightly over the bell curve of what should be normal activity, that I’ll have to be retested in march. its sorta good news.

  • I’ve had your password!!!   I wouldn’t call it luck, I’d call in Not being a Teenage Girl!!!

  • Oh dang, I didn’t answer the ?….. One, & that’s the dd, so she doesn’t really count.

  • No one. I don’t really know why any of my friends would WANT it, anyway.

  • Three.
I have had several people’s passwords off and on to fix layouts or  to post for them.
I am glad that I have people that I can trust and I am glad to be trusted.

  • Just one.  That person is someone I really do trust(more than a lot of people I probably should trust as much).

  • none. I don’t share my password. too many crazies. and I’ve been fucked over by too many people.

  • just you, xthread, and curtainsopen. that makes three.

  • oh, and, i’ve gotten around, um, 10-15 people’s xanga passwords. fixing stuff for them and whatnot.

  • I tend to recycle passwords for various things. It would be dangerous floating around my xanga password if it’s also doubles as pin numbers and email password.

  • No one has my password to Xanga, but I have about 100 passwords from everyone I help with their layouts.. :)

  • Only God and me know it.

  • No one has the password to my xanga except for me. When I first started reading your blog, I was actually rather shocked whenever anyone besides you posted. It took my awhile adjust to the idea, lol.

  • Someone did this to my Friend a while ago, and she sucked it up and made a new site
Sometimes I think people use these little myspace tragedies just to get pity from people. The Megan Myers thing was horrible, but this is just stupid. Part of growing up is learning how to deal with things like bullying.

Anyway, i’m the only one who knows my password.

  • Only one, my ex, and it’s funny because I know whenever he signs on as me. My tracker records it and I’m always amused by it.

  • Just me, at the moment.
I change it every couple months, too…

  • one. And that is me. Though come to think of it, a good friend of mine might have my password. But she might’ve forgotten it by now.

  • Usually, just me.  If I get sick or something happens, then I tell one of my daughters and they post up a message for me so that others know what has happened.

  • My sister knows it, because it’s my password to everything. Hey, if I die you need to find out somehow! I’m pretty sure she’d never hijack my account because I’ve instilled fear in her that I could easily still beat her up.

  • it is safe to have NOBODY having access to your account. however if you have shared account, then that’s different. OR that you have very close friend/lover/partener…. that could be something …

i have very few access to my account. i have known one friend my whole life. I trusted her with anything. though, she haven’t really shared much of her secrets with me, lol

my boyfriend have the access to my account though it can be annoying because sometimes i have venting in private post and he got into it, causing a fight between us. Grr.

So it is better NOBODY have the access… unless you really have complete trust.

  • “Red”, she is trustworthy and I bet she shares yours and mine!

  • Just me.

    -Guru on the Hill

  • my wife…that’s it.

  • None. Same goes for my e-mail accounts, and pretty much every account of mine alone. Even the password to log onto my computer when it goes idle. I have trust issues.

  • No one else knows it.

  • Dude, I don’t even know my password.

  • Nobody has my Xanga password

  • 0

  • Just me…I’m the only one who has the passwords to any of my sites and email accounts.

  • 1/2 person.  I’m not entirely sure what my own password is, and I haven’t given it out to anyone.

  • Nobody – I should probably give it to someone in case I die then they can let you all klnow that I’m not coming back.

  • only me myself and I

  • None!  Why would I let other people into my Xanga?  Hmmmm…..

  • well, I do believe metallmaus knew my password at some point in time for a xanga of mine.

(and my older brother knew my password at one point in time)

and metallmaus knows my password for myspace, and email. . .

  • One other person.

  • My password is one of the couple I use for basically everything, so… a few people, I guess? I’m not really excessively secretive about my passwords, honestly. Passwords are to keep bad crazy people out, not friends. My friends would have nothing to accomplish by logging in to any of my various … whatevers.

  • My parents, my older sister and one of my brothers. My parents have to know, and my bro & sis just know cuz they were around when I got my account.

Someone left their password on my xanga once in a comment…they thought I was some actor and wanted me to go to their site…lol haha I hijacked it once.

  • Absolutely nobody has had the password to my xanga.  Just the thought of it makes me nauseous.

  • Ha. I don’t even share that info with my wife!

  • The only person who has my password is me. I will probably leave it for my brother should anything happen to me so that he can make one last post etc.

    I never had your password.

  • If you are talking about your Xanga password.

  • None. Why would you give out the password to anything of yours? Kinda defeats the whole point of keeping it private.

  • Two people, my hubby and I.

  • I use the same password for everything. My brother knows it for gaming purposes but it’s highly unlikely he knows this xanga exists, much less bothers to log into the account.

  • none. my password is too hard to spell too. XD

  • I did that to my friend once..

Not to be mean or anything but just to show her how easy it is for people to do that kind of thing on myspace..

And I didn’t know her password..

She got mad and we’re not friends anymore..

How DARE I care about her and try to help keep her safe!?

  • My brother has known my passwords at times, but he and I are very close and he’d never betray that. Outside of my family I’ve never given out my passwords to anything unless it was a joint account with someone else. Other people have given me their passwords and I’ve never used it against them, either, as much as I’ve been tempted. ^__________________^

  • zero

  • Just one- my best friend, who got me started on xanga in the first place. She knows my password because she asked me for the code to my layout once(to use as a template for fixing her own) so I gave it to her. :P

  • I don’t give out my password. If for some reason I have to, I change it right away. Someone figured out my password on facebook once and added me to a group he’d invited me to. I was going to join the group anyway, but I still felt a bit invaded.

  • maybe 1 besides me

  • I am the only one that knows my Xanga password.

  • 1 my hubby

  • No one. This is my “secret” Xanga. No one I know in person knows about it or is allowed to see it. My boyfriend already thinks I’m anorexic. Why give him more cause to believe it?

  • zero, but I’m pretty sure my friends could guess.

  • 3 including myself (because I’m a person).  I think 3.  Maybe just 2, but I originally shared this account with my wife.  She ended up starting her own.

  • One, but none now since it’s changed. It was pretty ridiculous: a friend noticed a grammatical error while I was away from home and didn’t have access to a computer. So I called another friend, told her the password and asked her to correct the error.

  • no one, i don’t give out any passwords to anyone.  i’ve told my parents where my passwords are hidden, in case something ever happened, but if i ever tell someone a password to do me a favor, i change it right away after the favor is done anyway.

  • I think I may have given it to my husband so he could blog, but I seriously doubt if he remembers!  I don’t even know my myspace password–the computer does, though!

  • None, execept for the dang cookies that end up recording everything anyway (I learned this through my IT boyfriend, who hijacked my account weeks after I’d logged in on his computer).

  • none of my friends know that I have one….. & I keep my myspace password secret too.  If I use someone elses computer, I change my password afterwards while on my own bc ppl have keylogger sometimes.  My last ex had keylogger on his.

  • just me, and i change it occasionally

  • I’m not sure. I’ve changed my password a few times. I think only one other person knows what it currently is.

  • 3 but I bet only two of us still know it!

  • ok same thing happen to my daughter the little idots got ahold of her passwork by using a keylogger, also hijacked her email along with facebook , along with the IM thing and started a bunch of crap with her friends

  • my mom use to have it…when i first got it that was part of the deal. i am sure she no longer has any idea what it is. i don’t give my passwords out to anyone, and i don’t want to have anybody else’s either.

  • Zero.
I keep my xanga really private. I’ll give people my password to myspace or almost anything else, but never xanga.

  • None. I always keep my passwords for everything private.
