Glasses and Hotness
I was reading Arian’s site and she was writing about embracing the idea of wearing glasses.
She wrote:
“I have new glasses. They are square, nerdy, and big. They are very unlike any other glasses I had, all of which I chose because they made me seem like I wasn’t wearing any glasses at all.
Why the change? This is a bit of a stupid reason, but hey, I’ll say it. I was once watching this fashion show, and this woman hated her glasses. We live in a society in which glasses are rarely, if ever, deemed hot, but these fashion experts on the show said something that stuck to me ‘If you’re gonna wear glasses, WEAR’EM. Be proud of them, make them bold and let everyone know they’re there.’ It may not seem like a big reason, but that one thing they said made me realize that yes, I should be proud of my glasses, and no, I shouldn’t hide them. That was like four years back. All this time, I’ve been too afraid, insecure about my appearance to buy myself some bold glasses.
But now I did. I took the plunge. And guess what? I think I look beautiful in them!”
“The more I grow up, the less self-conscious I become. I don’t care anymore if I’m blond and tall and thin like all girls are told to me.”
“With, or without them. I’m not going to beat myself up over my appearance anymore. I don’t even wear that much makeup anymore… there’s much more important things in life than looking pretty.”
Have you ever been concerned that by wearing glasses you would make yourself less attractive?

I personally think that glasses are attractive as hell. People should wear them with pride. I’ve wanted glasses for a while bc I think they are attractive.
man i can never find glasses that go with my face and head. that’s why i gave up and decided to go contact.
I’m picking my frames next weekend. I’ve been looking forward to getting glasses since I started losing my vision.

oops forgot to answer the question. is nerdy and dorky similar to unattractive? no i guess not. i looked unattractive, nerdy, and dorky.
I like my glasses (probably b/c I didn’t have glasses until my 30′s). The only thing I don’t like is being dependent on them.
That’s why I had laser surgery. I don’t know what it is but all the glasses made me look like…Urkel.
That said, when a woman finds the right pair of glasses…rowwr!

Yup, and I know they did. My yearbook pictures for middle school provide more than enough proof of that.

I am very self conscious when I wear them– I didn’t get contacts until I was a freshman in college, and up until then I hid behind the glasses.
So I am all about my contacts- Without them, I instantly revert to my pre-college days of insecurity and depression-

but they look great on some people.

Me? Look less attractive? Glasses will never make or break my looks. Back in hs and college I had some clunky plastic frames. When I broke them, I had to go back to a pair that was even clunkier, plus they were held together by tape. I was pretty self-conscious then. Otherwise, a new pair of glasses bugs me for a couple weeks, then I forget about them.

i don’t have glasses as my eyes haven’t failed me yet so i can’t answer but if i were to wear glasses i happen to like the bold look on others so that’s what i’d wear myself:)

Of course I can say that because I’m married and he thinks I look hot in glasses. But I’m pretty sure I still wouldn’t care.

i’ve wondered that sometimes. but then i remember that i’ve been wearing glasses for like…7+ years and that contacts are a pain in the ass to put in every day if i’m not going to be playing serious sports [and even not then] or doing water sports.

See, now I just don’t get this at all. People spend LOADS on sunglasses….they are just glasses with tint on them, and they get ones to LOOK COOL and sexy. Glasses are glasses, the SAME person is still underneath. I don’t like glasses because they bother my nose. I’ve just started having to wear reading glasses since I’ll be 50 on my next B’day, and after a bit my nose start bugging me. I could care less what I look like with them on. If somebody thinks I look funnt, I would just say “Glad I was able to give you a laugh for the day”

hmmm. i have glasses and on occasion do wear them. the reason why i don’t is because A) people don’t recognize me sometimes and b) contacts are just more practical and comfortable. they don’t slip down your nose or jump up and down on your face. but if i am just feeling oober lazy, i will wear glasses around the whole day. especially days where i don’t wear makeup.. i find you can tell less when you wear glasses whether or not you have makeup on. but anyway.
glasses can definitely be hot and yes, some people actually look more attractive with them. i believe the from autumn to ashes singer has glasses, and they are amazing. kind of square and a bit thin. very very cute.
I used to be self-conscious about them when I was little because I got teased. But I don’t care anymore, and I have a black framed pair that I love and my husband thinks they are absolutely sexy.
Yes, and I was less attractive. There is a HUGE difference between wearing thin lenses like hers and wearing mine which, because of my extreme near-sightedness, were several inches thick. They were commented upon every single DAY. Getting contacts was one of the best days of my life.
Some people look just as good or better in glasses than they do without, like that girl in the post. Some people, like me, don’t.
Meh, I’ve never really felt too insecure about my glasses. The only real reason I have contacts is for sports and musicals and such.
On a side note, I don’t really care if you wear glasses – as long as you can read, you’re sexy. LOL

Glasses have been a fact of life for me since 3rd grade. Glasses themselves don’t makes someone less attractive-it’s all about picking the right pair.

nope. i’ve been wearing glasses since i was 2 and i think i look really strange without them.
Not less attractive, per se…but when I first got them in grade 4 I was worried about being teased and hated wearing them. The pair I have now are pretty bold (metallic orange rims with green on the inside of the rims) and I think I look pretty damn hot in them, but they’re the wrong prescription
I actually bought fake glasses that have thick brown rims and little rhinestones around the edge. I love wearing them because I felt so intelligent and people always say I look cute! People who actually have to wear glasses tell me I’m crazy…

nah. The last pair I got weren’t so great, but I found I don’t really need to wear them. All they do is marginally improve my sight in one eye.
As for Arian, I think she’s beautiful with or without them.
I think she looks beautiful with or without her glasses, but the glasses do give her face that extra oomf. Some people look amazing in glasses, and I think she looks great in them, but I also this I’m biased because the second picture looks like she’s from The Ring, and that movie was creepy.
I don’t think it’s so much about whether glasses make you look more or less attractive, it’s just some people have hte wrong glasses for their face. Get the right ones and you’re be great. Or get contacts.
I didn’t wear glasses until I was in my mid-30s and i felt like they made me look old… and then finally my eyes actually improved… and now I don’t need to wear them all the time, and I have contacts if I want… and I *love* going without them!!! (On the other hand, I don’t mind wearing them, if I feel like I need to: Hubby says he always thinks glasses are sexy. LOL…)

I have very loud and geeky glasses. They are black and white, square, with diamonds on the side. They seriously overpower my face. However, I love them. They give me character and some of my friends get disappointed if I take them off. I have never been ashamed of my glasses.

I’ve been wearing glasses ALL of my life and frankly it really bothers me when people wear glasses not for vision correction but JUST to wear them. I know a lot of people who do it and it rubs my ass raw because when they get bored of them…they can take them right off. I have to have glasses because I can’t wear contacts due to horrible astigmatism and laser surgery is out of the question because my eyes keep changing. What I wouldn’t do for perfect vision and people with perfect vision wear glasses as a fashion fad.

Some people have told me that I look like Drew Carey when I wear glasses, and since some women find him very attractive. that must mean I look good.
oh yeah. that’s why i don’t wear mine unless i’m going somewhere where i absolutely need them [ie. movie theatre, musical, etc]. but sometimes i do actually think i look quite spiffy in my glasses.

I’m pretty much blind without glasses, so having ones I feel great in is just awesome…and ironically enough, I never wear sunglasses. They freak me out a bit.

Glasses actually have always made me look older… which is good since, apparently, piercings don’t even do that job well enough for me. I like how I look in glasses and without them. But I need new glasses, right now, because mine are out-of-date and I don’t like them anymore.
I want different rims, with colors. :] Since I like colors. <3 Now that I actually don’t mind glasses [I was in denial I needed them, I didn't care how I looked in them], I figure they’re just another way to show yourself off to other people.

Yes. I really don’t have the face for glasses, yet I have to wear them. I wore contacts for about a year but developed a terrible eye infection and now I can never wear contacts on a regular basis again. Unfortunately I have a small head and big eyes, so the only glasses that fit on my face are children’s glasses, yet they don’t frame my eyes like they should. I avoid them as much as possible but still need them like 80% of the time because I’m terribly near-sighted.
Sure. But I just have the type of face that doesn’t look good in glasses, and contacts are so much easier/more comfortable. I like glasses on most other people, though.

no. my fiance actually prefers me in glasses, but they annoy me too much. and i can’t wear sunglasses if i’m wearing them. (i wear contacts) I was considering getting frames with no prescription to wear just for fun sometimes, cuz my friend has some. but decided no to waste the money.
I would be annoyed by glasses, because they give me headaches, and my eyelashes are too long for them- they get smooshed.
i am actually thinking of getting some back up glasses so i can wear them when i don’t feel like using my contacts. my one condition? they must make me look bookish. so, in answer to your question, not at all

I wear HUGE glasses.
I love them, but sometimes, they do seem to hurt my sexiness. The trick is spending on good frames. Mine are Calvin Klein, unspeakably expensive, but structured and striking.
i know, i agree with some readers she looks good either way. lol i need new glasses & an eye exam. i look more like a nerd. 8D depends on what frames fit ur face really.. anyone can rock em and make eye glasses look good.
Hey… she looks hawt in those glasses! Good for her! I wear the almost-invisible kind, not because I want to hide them but because they’re the lightest thing on earth… I often forget they’re there and they don’t leave marks on my nose like most other glasses. But yes, they can be attractive and people shouldn’t feel like they have to hide them, just have to choose one that fits their face type and go for it.
I’ve had glasses since I was seven, so I don’t really worry about it. My glasses are really a fixture on my face, and I’d look weird without them.

I think if you find the right style they’ll look great on you and won’t take anything away from your looks. I have glasses that I never use b/c I’m too lazy and don’t have a big enough need to wear them, but when I do my hubby likes them b/c he says they make me look like a naughty schoolteacher.
Goodness, she’s beautiful. I love her glasses too; very stylish. I just bought new glasses not too long ago and the square frames are just about all you can find. I used to worry about it when I was younger but not anymore. I wear mine at night and contacts during the day but it’s a practical thing for me. My baby likes to grab them off my face, and I just find contacts more comfortable.

In general, mixing it up is always good. Wear them one day and throw in some contacts the next. If you’re really daring, get some pretty colored contacts, too!
I rarely wear glasses, but my fiance used to tell me I looked hot in them
His opinion was really all that mattered when it came to me and my appearances. He didn’t like my colored contacts, though…he said my normal eyes were much prettier (I liked the colored contacts!)

If you are dignified in what you are wearing who gives a damm what you wear or look like. The objective to wearing your glasses is for the purpose of improving your vision, not to beautify your looks for the benefit of anyone else….as the commentator, I will you are beautiful in your glasses…to carry on and be proud

i have glasses & i need to wear them 24/7 but i only wear them in school because i look prettier w/o them when i go outside like to hang out.
I’ve always though a nice pair of glasses looked pretty hot on either gender. But then again, I almost never wear mine b/c I’m not happy with the frames I got. They’re a cool platinum color, but they’re so light weight I feel like I’m gonna knock them off my face.

I’ve been concerned about wearing my glasses in public, but that’s often overriden by my concern for my safety as well as the safety of others. Can’t be wandering off in the streets, you know.

Yes. However, a couple of my family members think I look nice with my glasses on. Maybe it makes me look more studious. But contacts are a bit more convenient.
