• All of `em.

• NNNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! DAMN YOU COUNTRYANGEL!

• oh, and to answer your question, 4 and 10.

• i’m goin w/ 10…

• All of them and some.

• I’ve broken all but 2, 6, 7, and 8.

• In some point of my long life…

All but, 6, 9, 10.

• Hmm. Everything But Kill. I haven’t killed another human, if thats what you mean.

• by the standards that Jesus taught, i have broken all of them well maybe not the first one, that is iffy. But all the rest with no doubt

• broken one – broken ‘em all…

• are those really the commandments? i would assume them to be much more holier. guess not *shrug* i’ve broken 3. but then. i’m not christian.

• Perhaps around seven…

• By OT standards–five.

By NT standards–ten.

• Anyone who says they haven’t broken 9 or 10 are lyyyyyyyyying. /singsong voice

• If bugs don’t count toward the killing then 5….if they do then 6.

• 2.. unless saying goddammit interferes with #3.. does it ?

• I think three… How about you Dan?

• As long as we’re going to list them, let’s at least list them in a more literal translation rather than a loose paraphrase. There’s a big difference between envy and coveting.

Exodus 20:2-17

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

“You shall have no other gods before [1] me.

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

13 “You shall not murder.

14 “You shall not commit adultery.

15 “You shall not steal.

16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.”

• I would say ALL of them, if not in the flesh, I’ve broken them in my heart. Even the first one, anything that I’ve put before God, Money my work, Watching sports on TV. You name it. I’ve never killed anyone, but so help me, if Binladen had walked up after 911 and said look what I did and laughed, I would have been hard pressed NOT to put him under right then, so in essence I did kill him in my heart.

• I feel like a heathen . . .6 with a possible 7 . . .what does that say about me exactly??

• Eight, but there are some things they hadn’t thought of yet when they wrote that.

But I will.

• if in your heart you have done it already, I have pretty much broken all of them

*whooo boy, better go to church this Sunday…*

=)

• I was going to say only 8, because I have never killed anyone. Yet, Jesus says when you hate someone in your heart you have already committed murder.

I was also going to say I never committed adultery, but Jesus said all you need to do is look at someone in lust and you already have.

That Jesus guy is tough.

I’ve broken all of them.

• 5, I think. But I don’t really consider myself an adulteress b/c there is no religious process for divorce, so I guess technically dating while I was merely separated could be considered adultery, but I think that since my marriage was definitely over and I was just waiting the year specified by my state before I could get that lovely piece of paper, it shouldn’t really count. God knows when my marriage ended better than a judge does.
So then, really, more like 4.

• Six of them.

<33

• “Breaking them” implies that I cared about them in the first place.

*isn’t a Christian*

• Kind of a personal question, don’t you think Darling?

• 1,3,4,5,8,9,10. Maybe 2, depending on your definition.

Looks like I just have to kill someone and commit adultery, and I’ll have collected the whole set!

• Three, four if being a music major counts as having an idol. #’s 4, 5, and 9

• Though I guess that’s the human count… I think God would have a way of finding all of them in me deep down.

• 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10.

• About 4 of the 10.

• All of them. The good news is that Jesus Christ bore the punishment for me.

• “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.” -James 2:10

• all except adultery, i think. yeah, that’s right. i’m a godless heathen.

• All of em…

• and i haven’t killed anyone yet either. hey, things are looking up for my soul!

• all of them. anyone that says they haven’t broken #1 and #2 is full of shit.

• Bitter_Sunday says it very well.

So following suit:

By OT standards, 7.

By NT standards, 10.

• Keeping the Sabbath holy doesn’t make economic in our society that is full of people who aren’t practicing Christians.

• all of them and if you said any less you’re lying

• All of the above, brother.

• around 4 or 5 in total

• I’ve broken 3 or 4.

I’m a bad egg. I feel pretty ashamed, I must admit.

• A lot of them.

• Literal Standard: 5

Jesus Standard: All of them

• All of them except for 5…and 6.

• Five … unless swatting flies counts as killing, then 6.

• Too many. No human can keep them all. That is why God also gave a system of atonement, which for us is Jesus Christ. We have Him as our advocate before God the Father. I’m thankful for that. In Christ alone I place my trust.

• @porcupinesol - being as i have never made an idol or worshiped one… i’v done # 1 but not #2

• All except two…number six and number seven. I know that there’s a nice warm spot for me in hell.

’nuff said…

•
I don’t have any gods, so I guess I haven’t broken this one?
same as above
not sure exactly what this means. Goddamn this ambiguous language! He isn’t my god.
broke this one!
I respected them until they abused my respect. no more respect for them.
…except in self defense. but fortunately, I’ve never had to kill another human. I have killed bugs.
I agree here.
does food count?
Ok, I’m fine there.
Cool- np.

Strict interpretation: I broke half of them.

Loose interpretation: I broke 1 (holy Sabbath)

• Surprisingly, only three.
-David

• Nine of them. I’m pretty bad-ass!

• By biblical standards, everyone has broken all of them before they’re even born. Whee! Original sin! Guilty until you gravel before an imaginary friend.

Try this one on – something you can actually follow!

Secular ethics: Ten Commandments

1.You shall have no Gods but that of your own mind.
2.You shall not make for yourself, for your nation, or for your family any idol or violent, unjust authority, nor bow down to it or worship it.
3. You shall not misuse language: always define your terms.
4. You shall remember and keep each day holy.
5. Respect everyone who deserves it; ignore those who do not.
6. You must not murder.
7. You must not commit adultery.
8. You must not steal.
9. You must not give false evidence against your neighbor.
10. You
must not be envious of your neighbor’s goods. You shall not be envious
of his house nor his wife, nor anything that belongs to your neighbor.

• All of them. Yay!

• When you include the mind, as scripture says, then every single one of them.

• PorcupineSol, I have not broken 1 or 2.

I have no Gods or Idols; I worship nothing but my own mind. Anyone who does not worship their mind is a slobbering animal.

• Every single one of them in my heart…just like Jesus said mattered. The point was that we couldn’t keep them perfectly. No one. Ever. Not even you.

Everyone is BAD.

• By Jesus’ standards, or Moses’?

By Jesus’ standards *looks at list* all of them. I’m thinkin’ all of ‘em.

By Moses’: most of ‘em.

• I havent committed adultery… and uh… with teh killing thing, is that just humans, or do animals count? cause ive killed mice… but not people.

• 4 of them. But…God still loves me.

• No wait… Im divorced… so by biblical standards… I have slept with guys that arent my husband… but… after we were divorced.

• If you dive into them deeply as to what they cover…I have sinned against all. Idolatry – many times I have turned to food instead of God, Murder – the bible says that even those who call their neighbor “raca” which means idiot is guilty of murder. Guilty of that one too. Murder also covers malice, etc. Adultery – even if you look at someone in lust, you are committing adultery so I am guilty again. I stole candy from my parents. Guilty again. Coveting? Sometimes I compare my stuff to my friend’s nice stuff and get jealous and discontent. So guilty again. Gossiping about my mom in a negative way…yes, guilty again with respect to honoring them. Sometimes she drives me crazy. False evidence…covers slander and gossip…guilty again. Yeah, so pretty much I have sinned against all. Blasphemy…sadly yes, I have with my lifestyle when it doesn’t match what I believe and what Christ requires.

• 1,3,4,7,8,9,10 are the ones I’ve broken in my lifetime, I think I confessed most of them, but since my last confession broke 3, 4, and 10 so I have to go again.

• six, but not the murder/adultry/have no other god ones

not stealing MUCH, just a quarter or two from my parents.
every kid disrespects their parents
I’m trying to cut down on the using God’s name in vain
I do my homework on Sunday
I’ve exaggerated the truth to get my brother in trouble
I envy stuff…who doesn’t?

• @porcupinesol - I get full a that stuff all the time, have to empty it out once sometimes twice a day. I just keep filling up with it***Shruggs shoulder***

• At one point or another, all of them. Thank God for the Sacrament of Reconciliation!!!

• at least half of them. i’m one of those who was the wild-child as a teen. of course, i’ve only changed a little as i’ve reached middle-age. i’ll probably be one of those old ladies that say and do whatever they want when i reach my 80′s, then use my age as an excuse.

• I’ve broken at least 4

• all damn i going to hell

•
You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.

Respect your father and mother.

You must not give false evidence against your neighbor.

You must not be envious of your neighbor’s goods. You shall not be envious of his house nor his wife, nor anything that belongs to your neighbor.

The typical human nature ones.

• Well I’ve killed nobody, and somehow if thats the only one I never break thats really ok to me. Sure the other ones may have noble intension, but hey I’ll admit to being human and being less than perfect.

• more than I wish I had.

• 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

So 5.

• @la_faerie_joyeuse - haha. i am totally a slobbering animal.

• Taking the purely literal meaning of the commandment, 6. Taking the “wishing it in your heart/thought police” route, all of them.

• I break the third one at least ten times a day. Such is the life of a pizza delivery driver in a city of people who can’t drive. Which is to say, any city.

• Probably all of them. I’ve killed bugs and put animals to sleep (does that count?). I’m trying to remember if I’ve ever stolen anything or lied to get someone in trouble, I can’t think of specific instances but I’m sure I’ve done something against them in the course of my lifetime.

• aren’t they worded “thou shalt not”

• If you go by what Jesus said about many of these commandments first being broken by wishing them in your heart (hating someone is like murder, etc.), then I have committed all of them.

• None, except for 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10.

• if you are guilty of breaking one then you are guilty of breaking all of them.

• Based off of Jesus’s interpretation of the 10 commandments, I’ve pretty much broken all of them. I joked around once that I had only broken 2, before, and I had to sit through a half hour of remembering all the things I’d done, and how they stack up the commandments. That’s humbling.

• All of them, break one break all. I live above the law, grace!

• Taken the Lords name in vain and kissed a married guy….yes, I feel low

• if you break one, God says you’re guilty of breaking all- so all.

and i really wish people would stop translating #6 as “thou shalt not kill” when in the original Hebrew it reads “thou shalt not murder” this deliberate miscontruing of the text has been to the chagrin of Christians and God’s concept of justice because “kill” is all encompassing and therefore a misinterpretation because God clearly calls his people to war and defines the terms of law where capital punishment must take place in the very same book. Murder is the real issue- the taking of an innocent life, not killing for justice or war.

• Many of them, but I’m not proud of it…and I’m forgiven

• 9 of them. go me!

• Unfortunately 9 out of 10.

• oh, most of them – everything but 1, 2 and 6

We are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God.

• If you are talking about the spirit of the law, all of them. If not, I’m clear on at least three of them.

• Truns a murderer! Oooh my.
Well, I’ve broken about five, but the day is young.

• All but killing, cheating and bowing down to another God……wow what a sinner!

• “Break on break them all?” what is that all about? If you just lied to someone, you aren’t guilty of murder….

• Oh, gosh…3 and 9 and to some extent 10

• All of them…Only through a relationship w Jesus Christ can we have forgiveness,”Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like, i once was lost but now im found was blind but now i see”

• Thou Shalt have no Gods before me: Being “too busy” for day to day life, I must say that I have placed far too many gods before Him.

Thou Shalt not make for yourself any graven image. You shall not bow down before them for I am a jealous God: TV, Computer, Books. Those things I spend a lot of time with, and take me away from my personal relationship with God where I make no time for Him. I have committed Idolatry

Thou Shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: Every day with cursing, whether actually using His name or not, the intent was there and the Lord knows what was and is in my heart.

Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy: goes hand in hand with By the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on the seventh day He rested from all His work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy; because on it He rested from all of the work of creating that He had done. GEN 2:2 When Christ died and rose on a Sunday, The emporer pope Constantine declared Sunday to be the new Holy day. Something God never sanctioned. But keeping the sabbath? sadly no.

Honor your father and your mother: I have disobeyed them, and done things that would apall them. I have not honored them nearly as much as I could much to my chagrin.

Thou Shalt not kill: I have taken lives of animals, I have killed parts of people I cared about with words and actions.

Thou Shalt not commit adultry: I’ve had a very active imagination since I was about 5. My sexual appetite had sometimes went beyond it’s own boundaries though I will not list my “conquests” for they are something in my later life, I am not as proud of them as I once was.

Thou Shalt not steal: I have shoplifted, not been too honest with some of the monies I had receved.

Thou Shalt not bear false witness: Lie? kinda goes hand in hand with all the other sins I’ve committed.

Thou Shalt not covet: Wanting something so bad? many times. Still do now and again.

The point is this, we are all sinners and to say we have only committed one or two offenses against the Ten Commandments would be bearing false witness against ourselves.

• Technically, all of them.

But if we don’t count childhood accounts where I didn’t know any better being raised by atheist parents, three.

• 6, i’m afraid of those that said all.

• Quite a few.

• @Konrado - yes, it does. (were you being sarcastic?)

• @VEFebruary_pg11 -

no. just wasn’t sure… I guess I’m a type 3 sinner then

• id say five and a half…

• LOL..The lucky seven Dan lol…

• Three. I feel so horrible.

• isn’t first and second somewhat saying the same thing? or is it just me? :) i’ve broken 4 of them…

• 4, 5, 8, 10……to some form or another

• That’s between me, the priest and God. It’s not for you to know.

• I’m surprised only one person brought up a different version of the commandments. Here are the ones I learned, off the top of my head:

1. I am the Lord your god. Thou shalt have no other gods beside me.

2. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in vain.

3. Keep holy the sabbath.

4. Honor thy father and mother.

5. Thou shalt not kill.

6. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

7. Thou shalt not steal.

8. Thuo shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour (that’s lying)

9. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife.

10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s goods.

• Sadly enough, I have broken them all in one way or at one time or another. All the more reason to be grateful for forgiveness. My karma would destroy me!

• If you’re liberal, I’m sure everyone has committed all of them. Sad, but true.

• wait, no. 6.

• I think that everybody has committed all of them, it is just that Christians know when to repent, and ask God to be merciful, (which he will be)

• Like, 6 or something.

• I’ve honored 3.
The rest have been broken.

• All of them, so that’s why I follow Christ Jesus since He died for my sins and rose again. By believing in His atonement on the cross, I currently have eternal life with Him.

Becker

• Number five in the original says, “You shall do no murder”, not kill.

• in my entire life i have broken all of them but one, but that was in a different life, before i was “saved” though.

since being saved i have broken only four.

• i’m a work in progress!

• I’m really curious to see who truly has broken Rule #6.

I’ve broken all but that one. And loving it.

• I will do them all before I die.

• I don’t believe in God so it would not be fair for me to answer this question.
