oo yeah. the only way to go.
Yeah.
Not drinks. But I sneak in other stuff. In my purse.
Yes, and I’ve never been caught.
YESSSSSSSS
I’ve never been kicked out for it.
Definitely! They’re so damn overpriced there.
Always. Usually stop by Chick-fil-a on the way and get an entire meal.
Yes, sometimes I do. Do you know what those bastards charge for snacks nowadays? They already have my $20 for the movie tickets, so they can kiss my fanny. I’m sneaking food in.
Sure do, It’s cheaper!
Use to, when I had a bigger purse. A bottle of Mountain Dew and a box of Sweetarts from the Dollar Store. So much cheaper! ~ L
Yup. They totally overcharge you for that stuff. I will buy their popcorn and Icees though, it’s hard to bring that stuff in.
Of course, I’m not paying 5 bucks for something I can get for 75 cents, that’s just stupid.
@skittler335 - Yeah, I still buy the popcorn, movie popcorn usually tastes better than anything else, anyway. I think they lace it with cocaine or something.
Just water. I typically don’t snack through movies.
Not often… because I know that the snack stand is where they make thier percapita…
Instead I go on the take your own bowl nights when you get popcorn for 25 cents… Yes. I am a cheapo.
Yeah! Like candy and animal crackers. I just wish it was possible to sneak in a cup of coffee or something like that (reminds me of the Seinfeld episode).
I have in the past, but I don’t really any more. The one time I got busted, I just set the candy outside the exit door and picked it up when I left.
Yeah, and ALOT of it…. if you go back to my Valentine’s Day post, you’ll see all the goodies I brought in, HAHAHA
absolutely. and you know i bring it in full view, because i dont care. the movies are overpriced as it is, and the food prices there are astronomical.
I actually choose to respect the rules and buy any snacks or drinks from the theatre concession. It’s odd to be counter-cultural by following the rules.
Hell yes.
But I love movie theater popcorn..it has a different taste than the at home kind…so I’ll usually buy that and a drink there too.
Everything else? Like hell I’m going to buy their overpriced snacks.
I have brought my own…and usually always buy a drink….and even that costs ALOT
I usually eat beforehand to avoid being hungry for junk food.
Go here and check out the stuff I brought in! (photos) We saw Spiderwick,
http://weblog.xanga.com/WiLD4SURFiNG/642521401/item.html
Yeah. I don’t like the idea of paying four bucks for a fifty-cent box of candy.
Yes, definitely.
i bring my brandy. Not my fault they won’t sell it at the theater.
Yes.
Depends on who I go with, normally though, I’ll buy a drink there or just have nothing at all.
Almost always.
Totally.. we’re going out to the movies this weekend.. can’t wait!
@randomneuralfirings - My wife doesn’t believe the rules apply to her. So, she buys the snacks elsewhere and I share them. How’s that for a rationalization?
I most definetly do! The movies back home are so expensive. $10 for an adult ticket and forget concessions, nothing under $3.50. I don’t know how families go to the movies anymore. I want to know how movie theatres claim they are losing money? I always make sure to bring a big purse and stop at Wawa to get some snackage before I go.
Yes. Every time. But I hardly ever go to the cinema. Maybe once or twice a year. I prefer to rent.
Sometimes.
No… it just feels wrong… (Besides, theaters have to make a profit at the snack bar or they won’t be in business for long. They sure aren’t making money on the ticket prices – the studios get most of that!)
Sometimes.
I usually just eat beforehand… those combos cost almost as my as my ticket itself, or worse those little fill it up yourself bags of candy. I could swear I’m being charged the cost of gold by weight or something.
I know snacks and popcorn are the ONLY way the cinemas really make $, but the prices they put on their items are out of this world!
I should!
OMG all the time!!
Only candy, which we get from Target. If we want drinks, nachos, popcorn, etc., we get them from the concession stand.
Sure do, not been caught yet.
I haven’t had snacks at the cinema in a long time.
Uh. Yeah.
I’ll even buy those ridiculous angst-y pants with all of the pockets just for that purpose.
Sure. I can’t believe they actually throw people out for it. Talk about poor customer relations.
all the time.
i’ve brught in subway sandwiches, pizza, and even some sushi. they see the bag and don’t say anything [at least at the theatres around my way].
there’s been one occasion when a worker has said something about it and he just told us how expensive the food is in the theatre and let us through.
Yeeeeeeah boy! I remember when I was a wee one and my mother not only taught me how to sneak in snacks and soda, but also such nuggets as the value of opening your can during the sound system promo and the value of coats with many pockets.
Oh si.
It’s just too expensive to buy whatever they sell, and I ususally don’t want all that.
I do if I want to eat something other than popcorn or large boxes of cocolate
duhhhhh.
Theater food prices are criminal.
I regularly sneak in Taco Bell, Chick-fil-A, random bags of candy. The problem is I never go to the movies these days because most of it is garbage.
sometimes we pack a whole picnic! last time someone forgot to bring the knife to spread the jelly and we were all quite disappointed
Of course. You just put it in your purse.
Sometimes, on the rare occassion I goto the cinema at all.
Yep, we bring our own 50 cent packs of Skittles in my purse. Otherwise, I’d spend $20 on candy.
No and I don’t like it when the wife does it either. Guess I’m anal. I agree the prices are outrageous though.
It seems too cheapskate for me to do that.
We buy the refill cup at the beginning of the year. It’s only a buck to fill each time we go. Occasionally we’ll bring a bag of RedVines in with us…they want $3.50 for a dinky little bag that costs 99 cents in the store! The large popcorn bag we save for the second movie we see and have never had a problem with a 15 year old refilling it.
You know when you sneak food into the cinema you’re taking money away from them that could be used to help keep high school students out of trouble with continued employment.
When you sneak food into the movies you are killing America.
Movie theater refreshment prices are liken to banditios who rob you without the mask on and then want to know, “how do you like it?” Well, I don’t and that’s why I bring my own stuff to the movies.
of course!!! i don’t eat the junk that they serve at the cinema.
I didn’t know that anybody would be able to afford going to the movies and not taking their own snacks and drinks. I carry a huge purse in packed full.
Hell yeah. One time i took in McDonald’s and people where sitting behind us saying”I smell frys” it was great.
yeahhhhhhhh the prices on the snacks are ridiculous. it was only kinda worth it when the prices of movie tickets were reasonable. we only go to the matinee now. and i didn’t know you get kicked out, i thought they just made you throw out the food.
anywho, most of the movie theater workers are usually high school students. and they don’t really care.
Years ago I used to- when I watched everything that I put in my mouth. But I haven’t been to the movie theater since my 3 and a half year old was born.
Of course! Usually just candy. But once I saw an old woman bring her own bag of microwaved popcorn.
ya they cant search your bag. i have even been known to bring slurpees and iced lattes to the movies. i wedge them up against my purse or put them in an inner pocket.
ummmm yes. how else do you get vodka in?
Definitely. I have a very large purse. Last month my 14 year old son and I bought a large popcorn and two sodas. It was freaking $17.
We take paper bags and then buy the giant popcorn that has free refills, we divide it out before the movie starts and then go get it refilled so there’s no need to leave for more popcorn during the movie…
We went on a last minute trip to the cinema and forgot to take snacks.. OMG. I bught nachos which were shit, a medium soda and a bag of 3.50 cent mNm’s and it was 12 dollars.. It was then I remembered why I dont go to the cinema anymore.
I brought a whole meal from wendy’s once, including frosty.
no.
Yes, If I am wearing a jacket or there is a girl coming with a purse.
That is a British link. They have weird rules. And when I lived there, yes, I took my own food. Because they wanted to sell me strange food at the theater, which I couldn’t afford.
Oh by the way…they also bring in food to the WEST END SHOWS! (like Broadway). You are sitting watching Les Miserable and you hear popcorn smacking behind you. It’s quite annoying.
I do, all the time… I even bring pop cans… you can hear the loud “PPSHHFFTPH” that it makes when I pop open the tab LOL
Never been thrown out though…
Haha. One time my whole family brought Subway and we didn’t get caught. This is odd sounding. I had a dream about this. I went to the gas station right before and got some popcorn, snuck it in my purse and the manager that was talking to me (which happened to be my manager here at my job) caught me. I thought it was funny how your topic was like my dream.
I need some methods on how to bring ‘em in since I carry almost nothing to cover the food from them. I’d highly doubt some would care anyway.
Used to, but it’s more fun to eat movie popcorn. Plus we get free refills on the giant ones my brother and I share.
yep! just last night(at a sneak preview of “Tropic Thunder”), I brought beef jerky, mint m&m’s, and sour gummie lifesavers…
and they checked my purse, but didn’t care(I think they were only looking for hidden cameras and stuff anyway)…
<8
12 dollars for a drink and popcorn, no thanks i am sneaking in food or just not paying for anything.
You betcha. Crunch softly… and carry a big purse.
My family used to do that when my parents were laid off.
but now we don’t. Kind of like celebrateing that we’re not poor anymore XD
Candy-wise, you bet I do.
Icee? I’ll buy it there.
Absolutely. All the kids who work there really couldn’t care less anyways, and they don’t check purses, water bottles, etc. for “contraband”. Saves probably at least $10.
Sad to say……if and when I go yes I do…..with the price of a ticket a rip off and the price of any treat or drink costing a arm and 2-leggs of course….and now with the price of gas at $3.25 a gallon and the outlook to be $3.50 by spring I ll be doing a lot more home watching of movies for sure……
snacks?!?! heck.. my friends and i snuck in mcdonalds’ meals once!
Nope. Movie theatre popcorn is the only way to go.
Always. Movie snacks are way to over priced…sometimes I cave and buy popcorn.
Amanda
Oh once I snuck in poppa-ginos!
Sure do.
I normally go to the drive in and get stuff to eat before hand for everyone in the car. The plus is that the ticket price is cheaper, they have two different movies playing, and I don’t have to listen to screaming children through the whole thing (unless they are my own)…I love the drive in.
they NEVER have the good stuff and it’s always so expensive
that being said, yes, I have snuck food in
hell, my buddies and I snuck a large pepperoni pizza in; lied through my teeth about the bulge in my jacket.
Sometimes. There have been a few times we had Subway or some pizza slices or something. If you have bags with you (like if a shopping center is nearby or the theater is INSIDE a shopping center), they wont notice. But if its candy and things then I just buy it. I usually only get REAL food from elsewhere.
Yes, I have! The theaters prices are outrageous!!
not usually.
Yea…I always do.
i always bring my own snacks lol. the theater concession stands are wayyy too overpriced.
I never go.
I bring candy all the time.
Every time I go to the movies.
Which isn’t often, considering I can BUY THE DVD and have it FOREVER to watch AT MY LEISURE for the cost of TWO one-time tickets to a sticky-floored, distraction-filled pandemonium.
No, but I bring my own snacks to the movies.
(sorry, couldn’t resist). I always have; I rarely buy them there. I once snuck a giant box of hot tamales in under my coat. I’m a pro.
I used to. These days if they are showing a good movie, I try to reward them with a sale. An overcooked hotdog adds to the atmosphere.
Only occasinally I might sneak in a granola bar or two.
If it was just slightly more than something found in a convinence store, it might be okay.
But usually I do not buy anything from them anyway.
With the outrageous prices, now I usually just rent movies from blockbuster.com
The last movie I went to was about 2 years ago.
Renting movies are more fun and you can watch older TV show -uncut- and commericial free.
Sometimes.
Yes, I do. ALL the time!
btw….You’ve been TAGGED! So you have to list four random facts about yourself.
Sometimes we bring candy and buy popcorn and a drink. They are way overpriced.
Sure we can interpret a bible verse to make it a sin. I’ve learned many of the commenters here are good at that.
Absolutely! I’m not paying $3 for a candybar and $5 for a soda.
Oh, I definitely bring my own goodies. I will buy the popcorn, but definitely not the pop or sweets. I don’t feel like spending $20 on something that isn’t even worth $5.
In England, you are allowed to bring your own food/drinks into the cinemas. At least at the AMC in the city I lived in. There were still long lines at the concession stand, so I don’t really think they lose money by forcing people to only eat what the have.
yep. my cinema doesn’t care. they keep bumping up the prices so they need to be a little flexible for this
Sometimes. Not often.
All the time. With movie tickets being like $10 each, I want to spend as little as possible. Luckily, there’s a Dollar Tree right nearby. :] My boyfriend took in a half gallon of ice cream before. It’s amazing what you can smuggle in with over-sized bags and bondage pants. XD
I have a big purse and not much shame.
Yes, always.
That’s what diaper bags are for! W00t!
But seriously, if they didn’t charge $5 for a Coke they probably wouldn’t have this problem.
Yep. I can pretty much bring anything in in my purse. I’ve managed to steaming hot cups of hot cocoa once without spilling.
I’m not gonna pay for things I can get else for cheaper.
Sometimes. They don’t search little old ladies purses.
Guilty as charged.
yes! i have no problem with doing this
Oh yeah, snacks at the theater are wayyyyy too expensive. I’ve been known to sneak coffee into the theater in my purse… something which requires much skill not to spill everywhere
I do, I do – I hide them in my purse or my coat pockets! They cost too much at the theatre.
i aint buying those overpriced junk. thank you very much.
hell yeah! once my friends and I stuffed burgers into our handbags.
i can’t top the popcorn, but i definitely bring my own m&m’s!
I usta when I was a poor teen…. prices are a bit rediculous at the theatre…..
I once brought a Whopper Meal from BK to the theater and didn’t get caught. Oh the perks of big purses.
I always carry water with me everywhere even to the movies, but I usually get the kiddies popcorn.
every time
no, i ain’t no po’ ass.
Not usually, but I almost always take my own drink.
The theatres are to blame for people bringing their own snacks. If you didn’t charge 6 dollars for a bag of gummy worms, I wouldn’t bring my own damn gummies!
I rarely go to the movies, but isn’t that what coat pockets and purses are for, “smuggling” snacks?
lol They charege WAY too stinking much for stuff at the theater…
Yes, cause I’m allergic to half the stuff there! You bet I bring my own. The food/drink costs more than the movies nowadays.
H… yeah!
Oh, hell yeah! Every time….I always buy popcorn, though, so I dont feel guilty.
When I was a kid we used to go with my mom to the movies & she would always bring a big purse & go to the dollar store right by the movies & but tons of cheap candy. But it was the good kind! That movie theater is on the brink of closing down every day.
i dont sneak, i take, and they say nothing
I am 6’4″ and 370 pounds. usually people don’t say anything. one person said something and I walked to the trash can, then when they went to take another ticket I walked away. Me 1, Theater 0
My best friend from high school and I are adept at it. The list includes cookies, juice, pop, crab rangoon, sangria (while in Germany), and, best of all, soup. Yes, soup. In styrofoam cups with plastic lids from the Wild Oats Market up the street.
Maybe next we’ll try sushi…
Sometimes. Put it in the bag. They don’t check your bag.
I don’t go to the cinemas anymore. In the past I usually watch the movie with out food but, there was occasion 1-2 times I have brought food to the cinemas. Hey, I don’t like those over price greasy popcorn. Instead, I like more health snakes like carrots or oak meal raising cookies.
There’s a Meijer right across the street that sells bulk candy; you bet your ass I sneak that shit.
@maje_charis -
yes!
sometimes..
yeah..cheaper too =D
Its in my bag…or pockets.
rock band x]
My husband and I usually go out to dinner before the movie and get an extra large soda to share!
People who want to sneak in drinks, if its cold out, put it on the inside pocket of a coat, if its warm out, put it in your groin area, it will make seem like…
I know its terrible to say. But I sneak food in because usually they don’t have the food i’m craving for at that time. Plus their food is so overpriced its not even funny!
of course!
Yeah. I bring my purse and put snacks in there.
Hello?! The shit at the movie theatre is expensive.
Yes, unless I am craving movie theater popcorn, and then I still get annoyed with the prices. Even sodas in a fast food place are over a 300% mark up, so imagine what the mark up is in a theater. It’s absolutely stupid how much they charge. I recall a particular incident where the movie theater was out of bottled water, and I forgot mine at home. I expected to pay like $1.00 for a cup of water. They wanted to charge me $3.25 for a WATER, and the bottled water was cheaper. I was aboslutely livid. From that point on, I felt no guilt at all.
We’ve brought food, drinks, sodas . . . and I saw someone bring beer. Does it stop us? The arm breaking prices for those movie snacks is the best response I can find.
LOL…everyone sneaks in their own snacks…I used to wonder what I was teaching my children, sneaking in snacks to the theatre…is that really a good mom thing to teach them? But then…I figured I was teaching them how to be thriftier and that was a good thijng yes? That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
shoot yea! I brought in a smirnoff ice before and then dropped it, but made sure to take it out with me so i could continue to break the law quietly.
Yes I do take my own snacks to the movies, and there is a movie theater in Kansas City that allows one to do so..
Of course! Only if I have time. . if not. . on to the snack bar I go. hahaha! I bring blankets and my teddy bear too =D Especially to scary movies =[
x0x MK
yeah.. i used to anyways. I used to put a bit of candy in my pockets… where they didnt look lol and buy drinks there. but now i hardly take anything … if i go. I hardly go to the movies anymore. yeah i know… BORING! lol
nope to lazy.
But I dont buy anything either.
I just eat before I go.
Sure, I’ve done it. Concession items are way too expensive not to.
hey what up
Of course I do. The food at the movies is way overpriced.
sometimes
Yes….I bring all sorts of sweets…..but I do buy the popcorn and soda there….and thats a rip-off ……but the popcorn is sooooo good at the movies, isn’t it????? And I prefer a fountain drink so they have me there. but I won’t pay 3 to 5 bucks a box for candy when I can buy it at the Dollar store 2 for $1……
sometimes
I do. And I go to a movie every Tuesday. Surely the staff knows.. why else would so many people carry such big bags in.
haha, yeah. i don’t always, though.
one time, i had leftover philly cheesesteak b/c my friend and i had just eaten out, right before the movie. yum!
Sometimes. I find I get better snacks that way!
yup! hide in my bag. i’m not paying 4 bucks for a little box of candy!
It’s a pre-movie ritual to head to the 7-11 to stock up, the way the prices are at the movies, they can kiss my butt if they think I’m going to pay $5 for some candy. I do, however, purchase popcorn (and soda, if I’m inclined not to drink my water). I bring my own H20 wherever I go.
haha… yes, i do.
yes!
Sometimes.
No. I love the buttery popcorn there! And I don’t go to movies often enough for that ONE $5 bag of grease to affect me in any negative way; financially or healthwise.
I don’t go to the movies but my mother-in-law does and she takes stuff in her purse, up her sleeves, in her pockets, etc. However, it’s weird stuff like peanuts, cheap toffee, and cinnamon discs all mixed up together in a baggie, which basically ends up tasting the same but she doesn’t care because she’s 84 and all she can taste is bitter, sweet, salty, and sour anyway.
Sometimes, but I usually don’t bother.
They don’t even check our tickets let alone make sure we don’t sneak in food.
No, not really.
Yep. That’s what my purse is for! Bringing my own snacks is much cheaper and my choices aren’t as limited.
