Easter
Matthew 28:1-10
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary
Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a
violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and,
going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance
was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were
so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I
know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here;
he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and
is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have
told you.”So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet
filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met
them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and
worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell
my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

Happy Easter Dan. I hope you have a glorious and blessed day with your family and the Lord
ahahahahahahahahaha!
That’s one of the four versions. =]
lol, Happy Easter.
Happy Easter
Happy Easter
Happy Easter everyone.
Happy Easter!
Happy Easter!
happy easter
Happy Easter (and Ressurection) Day All
Prophecy fulfilled.
Happy Easter :]
Thanks for posting this. I’ve been thinking about hope this Easter. Not just as in “I hope so”, but hope as an attitude, a lifestyle, based on truth. I feel sorry for those who don’t have real hope.
Happy Fuck Off I’m Eating Caramel Eggs Day!
Does it seriously say “and the other Mary?”
@kbevl1 -
easy to fulfill prophecy when all you have to do is make it up and write it down in a book. You know, Harry Potter’s prophecy was fulfilled as well.
@ata_grandma -
and i feel sorry for those who believe fairy tales as if they were truth.
Ok, replying to stupid comments aside.
Happy Easter to all who celebrate it. May this day bring some sense of peace on the world, no matter what the means.
Happy Ressurection Day.
@as_i_grow - I feel sorry for those who don’t know enough about the basic structure of fairy tales to know the differences between them and any other type of story.
why is jesus’ day of rising from the dead change every year? and how is friday afternoon till early sunday morning three days?
lol and what the hell does easter bunnies have to do with jesus’ resurrection CHRISTIANS. *rhetorical question*
and dont say fun for the kiddies! you cant use that excuse for giftmas AND easter. be more creative!
Yeah, sure.
@Endowedbythecreator - It has to do with pagan traditions about fertility.
@Endowedbythecreator -
Because it’s a Pagan holiday; and, uh, I don’t know, maybe the early Christians were bad at math or something.
@ata_grandma -
And who might that be?
the diversity of your posts often amuses me. it’s gone from debating the grossness of peeing in the shower to the story of easter. it seems the perfect example of the complexities that make up the human.
not my easter yet (Orthodox Pascha is April 27) but it is appropriate to say any time of the year: Christ is risen!
The use of Easter EGGS is quite Christian. Looking up the outside
of the shell, its form appears empty and lifeless… dead. But inside,
waiting to burst forth, is new life! Ancient Christians (and the
Orthodox today) would die them red to symbolize Christ’s blood.
Easter bunnies, on the other hand, are entirely pagan and are blasphemous on such a holy day.
*looking upon
@Endowedbythecreator - Because the Church chooses the date Easter is to be “held” by figuring out when the first full moon after the Vernal (spring) Equinox is. Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Vernal Equinox.
@blessed_saint_catherine - Both the ‘use’ of eggs AND rabbits was, essentially, stolen from Pagan fertility festivals, which were usually help right after the Vernal Equinox (see my first comment–a rather PAGAN way to set a date for a CHRISTIAN holiday, isn’t it?), and usually centered on THE REBIRTH OF THEIR RESPECTIVE DEITIES. As fertility was (obviously) a HUGE part of these holidays/festivals, the egg and the rabbit (both obvious symbols of fertility and (re)birth) were traditional symbols of these holidays/festivals.
I love it when Christianity steals holidays from Pagans and, essentially, rapes them.
Easter, indeed. *scoff*
Oh yeah, Happy Zombie Jesus Day.
Happy Easter, Dan.
I often wonder if it’s possible to follow Jesus’ teachings without believing in the literal translation of the Bible???
Praise the risen Lord!
@SuperEvilPopTart64 -
Well, yours is quite an interesting comment, but please spare me the nonsense of “Christians borrow everything from the pagans blah blah blah.” Firstly, even if it were true, so what? Everyone borrows from the culture around them because that is what they know. Christianity was fledgling and one needs to establish a culture before one can (like now, in the 21st century) borrow from its own culture. Secondly, you are incorrect about the dating of easter. (a), Orthodox Pascha is dated by a lunar calendar, so our ‘easter’ is not marked by the vernal equinox except every couple of years by coincidence. and (b) Western Easter is dated by the Jewish holiday of Passover, NOT the vernal equinox.
Read up on a little Church history, my friend. Non-Christians make fools of themselves so often without even knowing it.
@Endowedbythecreator -
Like what other people said, it’s with the Pagans. Go look on Wikipedia…it’s interesting.
By the way, Happy Easter, Dan! I hope you and your family have a GREAT day!
has* :-/
Happy Easter Dan!
@blessed_saint_catherine - And Christians act like hypocrites when they speak/talk/type/whatever condescendingly. Isn’t one of the tenants of Christianity, to be kind to/tolerant of others who have differing opinions?
Oh, wait. I just slipped into my idealistic world, where religious people are always tolerant and logical.
Clearly, THAT’S never going to happen.
Also, I never said borrowed. I said STOLE, because that is what happens. You do not completely wipe out an entire culture, and say, yeah, lemme borrow that. No it does not happen. (For reference, it’s called assimilation, and it was NOT what happened here. The Church stole these facets of Pagan religions and used them to make “life easier for converts”.)
Happy Easter.
@SuperEvilPopTart64 -
I was not trying to be condescending. The simple truth is, when non-Christians talk authoritatively about Church history, they often make fools of themselves because they do not know all the facts. It is not condescending to hope that you would study all the facts necessary to form an educated conclusion about a subject, nor is it condescending to exhort you to do so. Nonetheless, I’m very sorry for the offense my comment gave.
lol why are non christians responding to my RHETORICAL questions that were directed toward christians themselves
@blessed_saint_catherine - How, pray tell, do you know I am not a Christian? I could very well be as good and faithful a Christian as you, who simply has her own opinions and uses-hmm-LOGIC. You have no idea as to my true religious persuasion, and to say you to is nothing short of presumptuous.
That having been said, apology accepted.
Happy give me a chocolate bunny and no one gets hurt day!
Happy Easter, everybody.
Mmmmhm…chocolate bunnies…
In celebration of today, I am watching Resident Evil 1-3. Happy Zombie Day everyone =)
Hope you and yours have a wonderful and joyous Easter, Dan…take good care..hugs, Lee
He hath risen. He hath risen indeed.
i don’t believe any of this, but have a nice day anyway.
@SuperEvilPopTart64 -
No true Christian could ever scoff at Easter, that Feast of feasts when our Lord was raised from the dead and defeated Satan, sin, and death!
@Endowedbythecreator - Christans attempts to outshine the pagans. that’s pretty much all there is to it.
oh, and happy zombie Jesus day!
Talk about a surprise.
He is Risen =)
Happy Easter
Happy Easter, Dan. I’m so glad that He not only died for my sins, but rose again!
@blessed_saint_catherine - He is risen indeed!
Those of us who are believers understand the impact of that statement and I pray that those who do not will come to an understanding.
Blessings to all!
i think all the pastors today are preaching about this
yay!
Happy Zombie Jesus Day.

Christ is risen! Praise God! And I am risen with Him!
He is risen!
ok.
HE IS RISEN.
…There’s a serious variety of comments on this one.
He is risen. Death is defeated. He has bought Life for us, and because of Him we have hope. I testify to these things.
Happy Easter, Dan, and to absolutely everyone “who believes but has not seen.”
Tomorrow, back to the wiseacre remarks.
I wonder what tomorrow’s post will be like…
Peeing/Jesus/?Surprises, surprises.
Amen.
Happy Easter, everyone!
Okay, trying it answer a couple of questions here…
Easter is determined as the Sunday after the first full moon of the vernal (spring) equinox. They somehow decided this at the Council of Nicea in 325 AD. Most of the time, it corresponds to the Jewish Passover, although it doesn’t this year, for reasons I don’t really understand. Crazy calendars.
Anyway, since Easter always occurs in spring, it falls close to what was once the pagan Celtic holiday of Beltaine, a spring fertility ritual, celebrated from what is now France up to what is now Britain. When the Romans, now Christians, sent missionaries there, eventually people kind of incorporated the symbols associated with Beltaine with Easter. So what animal most represents fertility? A rabbit. What also symbolizes the rebirth of spring? An egg. And thus, the Easter Bunny was born. The same thing happened with Christmas trees, which were not originally Christian at all. But the symbolism worked, so why not?
Meanwhile, Happy Easter! As the priest at my church said this morning, “The joke is on death.”
hahaha wow. all the hostility on Easter.
i had a great day at church. i have been particularly blessed these past few weeks, and today has added to my blessings. i hope it was great for you too. =)
@mightymarce - yes, it really does say that. this is because everyone and their sister were named Mary then, Jesus’ mother, Mary Magdalene, and Mary of Bethany. it’s the last one, Lazarus’ sister, that went with the Magdalene to the tomb.
Happy Easter Dan
Happy Easter Dan.
That is, I’LL be going back to wiseacre remarks. What anyone else wants to do is entirely up to them.
Happy Happy Easter Easter ! !
He is Risen!
He is Risen Indeed!
Alleluia.
@Endowedbythecreator - Because of the Church calandar.
@Endowedbythecreator - There is a specific story behind it, like Santa Clause, google it.
He lives!!
Happy Resurrection Day, Dan!!
@faerieshadow -
you’re right. jesus is not a fairy tale. it’s a myth. just like the Greek gods.
@as_i_grow -
I feel sorry for people who get their kicks by making fun of other people’s beliefs.
Do you feel better about yourself now? Grow up…
God Bless and happy Easter,
Chris
@Soul_in_Motion -
I was merely commenting on the apparent superiority complex being taken by the poster to whom I was replying. but, since I’m just a child….
fuck off. I’ll feel much better when society doesn’t need to perpetually lie to the next generation in order to continue this bloody and horrible history religion has left on the world.
@Soul_in_Motion -
Oh and stop wishing people a happy easter, it’s not your holiday. you people fucking stole it.
Happy Zombie Jesus Day?
@as_i_grow - Yes, myth is the term I would use. Myth can be taken either as fact or as just a story. I happen to believe in Jesus, and I realize that not everyone does. But I’m also big into fairy tales…especially the ones collected by the Brothers Grimm. : )
praise God! Happy Easter!
Happy (late) Easter! =)
Happy Easter.
Happy Easter! Where’s the chocolate Jesus or bunnies?
Wish you and yours the best! May God ever bless you.
the easter bunny has nothing to do with the Christian holiday dumbass. its part of a pagan holidays relating to spring.
yah accha hai.
