  • Xanga From Work

I start my new job today.

I am really looking forward to this job.  I only work for a few hours this afternoon.

According to the employee handbook, a person is not allowed to use the computer for their personal use.  They are allowed to check their email real quick.

If it was against the rules to check your xanga at your job, would you ignore the rule?

  • Under my boss’ definition, Xanga is not under “social networking sites”. So I’m not breaking any rule LOL!

  • Lol…only a wee bit.  A quick sign in and glance at the homepage then quickly sign out and delete the browsing history.

    *cough cough*

I used to check it at school but then they caught on and ACTUALLY blocked Xanga.  It’s an outrage!!!!

  • I do all the time.

  • No. but it would be difficult. Employers can block you from certain sites ya know.

  • Ha, actually. I carry on entire comment banter conversations from work.

  • awww good luck on ur new job!

I WOULD CHECK IT ANYWAY BUT UNFORTUNATELY XANGA IS BLOCKED AT MY JOB TOO :(

  • I used to Xanga from work incessantly, simply because it was either that, or solitaire, and fuck solitaire.

    FUCK SOLITAIRE
Though I did play bejeweled a lot.

  • If I had nothing else to do, then yes.
If I was busy, then no way.

  • Sorry to say that I would.

  • @BuBbLy_aZn_LuV - well u could get around the blockers if u tried just ask for help on some forums

  • Heck yeah but I wouldn’t be on too long. :)

  • Yes, I probably would.

  • Nope.  Not worth it.

  • You are checking your email (messages/comments) from Xanga … lolz

  • xanga isnt blocked, meaning its fair game!

  • I would not.

I do not want to break the internet telecommunication I think it is called.

People thing I be weird checking my Xanga (you still using Xanga Phil) or what is Xanga (so I would not go on it)

I would not risked getting fired (I find it tough to get work anywhere so no chances of screwing myself up – if I was working)

    It might be blocked

I do not want to risk getting my Xanga account shutdown by my employer (if I was working)

  • Xanga has been blocked here before.  I wouldn’t be surprised, if they do it again.  That would be a sad, sad day.

  • That depends on how much I cared about my job, and whether I thought I could get away with it.

One of the perks of being self-employed is that I’m the only one giving me shit for the time I spend on xanga…

  • Depending on the consequences. Like, I would check it more often at my job, but I’m a telemarketer, and it gets confusing to read and pitch at the same time. We’re not supposed to, but my manager doesn’t care too much if you’re being a good little tellie and get plenty of bookings. Haha! :D

  • As long as Xanga’s not blocked…I’m on it…like…now ::grins::

  •  In my job, as an ICU nurse, I usually don’t have much time to do anything but check email–any more time would be taking time away from my patients and coworkers.

I think it depends on whether or not the time you are spending on the internet is time you are taking away from something you are being paid to do.

  • @Drakonskyr - Haha I have Bejeweled on my cell phone. :D I play it all the time. Haha.

  • good luck on the new job.

  • I’ve checked my Xanga at all my jobs before (as long as I had a computer and some internet) =D

    <33

  • Depends where I worked. At my old job as a receptionist I did.
    Amanda

  • Shoot, that’s the only time I have to check my Xanga.  It’s not blocked so I check it out, type my post for the day (when I have time…been running short on that lately), then log off.  I check back in every once in a while to see if there are any more new and interesting posts but I’m on here mostly once a day.  I’d be very sad if they blocked my Xanga!  :(

  • I work from home and can do whatever I want online all day and all night!

    LOL!

  • If I was computer bound, you bet I would. I’d probably play World of Warcraft, too.

  • No, but thankfully that’s not a problem for me.

  • this isn’t personal Dan, it’s your other part time job

  • I honestly don’t know.

  • I constantly do.

  • I guess it depends on how vigilant your boss is. Some bosses track your internet usage, so you should probably be careful if they are specific about that policy, because they likely may be tracking their employees.

  • All handbooks say that…and unless the program is blocked or totally ‘inappropriate’ for work, I do it anyway…

  • actually it is, and I do respect the rule…also the network at the school I work at is so horribly unreliable that it is almost impossible to go to Xanga (I’ve tried)

  • yes…..and i have before lol

  • I plead the 5th.

  • Sheesh, Dan- it’s your first day and you’re already trying to get around the rules! What a rebel. I would probably check it really fast, if I couldn’t stand the temptation… but really, if you’re going to be home in a few hours anyway, I think it can wait  Congratulations and good luck on your first day!

  • No. But I have a feeling you will. You’re too popular on Xanga to give up your every-few-hours posting habits.

  • It already is. But as long as I get my work done, they don’t check on me. And I do keep it to a minimum–as in on breaks or lunch.

GOOD LUCK WITH THE JOB, BABE!! WOOHOO!! The ultra sexy TC!

  • haha i already do!

  • I’m at work right now :)

  • I’m at work but… I’m a nanny and it’s not against our rules. So I think it doesn’t count.

I’ve had this problem before though. Unless they block all personal internet usage I would check it on the time that I’m allotted for personal usage.

  • it is  soooo not  worth it

  • Prolly not, but since I’m the boss, it doesn’t matter. If I get mad at myself for spending too much time on xanga, I can tell myself pfffftttt, get lost freak, I’m busy!

  • That cracks me up “you can check your email Real Quick”  what does that mean?  2 minutes, half hour?

  • Ha, I’m on a school computer right now…

  • I cannot even begin to imagine how much work I’d get done if Xanga was blocked. I am sure I am not supposed to be on it… but that has yet to stop me.

  • I really try not to, and I’m allowed to clock out to check email and whatever.

  • depends on whether i could get away with it.  i’m actually more productive if i’m allowed free access to the ‘net.  sounds weird, i know, but i’m more motivated to work after i let off some steam.  and i’m apt to not abuse the trust, either.  i check e-mail, xanga, whatever for a few mins per day, and then do whatever i need to do to finish my projects.  i once worked somewhere where they completely shut off access, and i was lethargic, felt restricted, worked slowly, just hated it.  i wasn’t as productive.  i know.  weird.

  • Turning in my vote for bluemarsupial!!! She rocks!!!

  • Just dropping by to vote for Southernlass on Xanga Idol :D

  • When I worked the desk at a dude ranch, I never used the computer for my personal stuff.  Didn’t check my email and most certainly not my xanga.  It’s rather unprofessional and a poor use of the time the company is paying you to be working.

  • For some reason Xanga is not blocked from my work, so yes, I break the rules.

  • I wish I could at my job, but I work in a hospital and have limited access to the internet. I can look up things that are educational at work, but nothing cool like surfing around on Xanga.

  • i do it all the time…if i remember to do so…hehe plus i do it discreetly so i wont get caught…hehe…have fun at your new job

  • Unfortunately, I’m unemployed right now. I need a job. Badly. Haha.

Good luck on the new job!

  • yeah, i would be on it all day

  • Yea…

  • Doesn’t sound like a “job” if you can do whatever you want.

  • What are you going to do Dan? We’re going to go into withdrawls again!

No, I think I’d have to wait until my lunch hour if that were allowed.

  • Nah, but I work at a bakery, and we don’t have computers. I would wait at least a month before breaking the rules.

  • I broke this rule so often, my boss just gave up from giving me warnings and told me I could do as I please online But no porn.

I would like to vote for Freeverse for Xanga Idol, please.

  • If I had anything else to do, I certainly wouldn’t check Xanga while at work.  However, they kinda tell me not to use the computer and then expect me to sit in front of it all day and not do anything?  Yeah, that’s not gonna happen.

Vote for JadedJanissary for Xangan Idol.

  • There was one place where I tried to check Xanga.  They had it — all blogs sites, for that matter — blocked.  For some reason, this included the Tech page of Scifi.com.

And as a Xangan Idol participant, I hope you will give all due consideration to my manifesto, which is now available for your perusal.  Thank you.

  • maaaaybe lol.

hope you have fun at your new job :D

  • I have done so many times in the past.

  • it was, I did, now its blocked! grrrrr……have fun on the new job Dan!

  • I had to sign an agreement not to have a blog. But I was not about to put my years old xanga on delete. Yah for friends lock.

And since I am there so freaking early, what else do I do but read blogs until the sun comes up?

  • Im a blue collar gal.. no computers in my line

  • I probably would.

    I’d also vote for AntiSoccerMom.

    =)

  • Yes, but I normally never check xanga on public computers. I just check through my email.

  • Can’t afford to check xanga if I have to put my job on the line.

  • only to write an entry about something interesting that happened.

other than that I only go on in the evening so that there’s more updates from my subs for me to read.
there’s no point of going on when everyone’s busy at school or work

  • methodElevated FTW

  • I check xanga at home simply because I don’t have a job. :]

  • Xanga makes me want to find a job that I can do at home. I would so break the rules just to have fun on here. By the way, I’m turning in my vote for Ron Paul. He may have not won the presidential election, but god damn it, we’re gonna make it happen for him on this Xangan Idol thing. TO VICTORY!

  • Break the rules!!!! Xanga duties call!

  • I tried once.  Xanga was blocked.  So was Myspace.  Facebook wasn’t though…..*evil grin*

  • I’m not THAT addicted to xanga that I wouldn’t be able to wait until I got home…

  • Felicitaciones on your new job. I don’t Xanga from work because it’s utterly impossible I’ve heard, I don’t even try it (that’s how 1984ish I have gotten).

Now, as for the reason of my visit, I feel like I have arrived at a sacred city and you, Sir, you are sitting at the end of a long table and you ask me, “What brings you here?”  Let me try to speak up and not whisper. Enunciating as best I can:
Here are the Xangans I support for Xangan Idol 2:

    Amarisa

    Freeeverse

    Fullmetalbunny

    Rveblade

    TheSecretLifeOfPandas

  • Hi i am Hernan from argentina. Im just want to say you that I have a
few pieces of music in my blog and i would like, if you have time, you
can hear it, and please tell what do you think. I dont matter if you
say good or bad things about my music, just i matter that you say
    something.Thank you very much.

  • No, because you never know when you’re being monitored live. Also, traces of what sites you’ve visited remain on record in your hard drive. It’s not worth getting caught. If you really need to do Xanga during the work day, get a lap top with a wireless connection and log in at lunch.

  • i always check things at school even when i’m supposed to be working on a paper or project -_-

  • No, although at my job last year I did and I got a little bit in trouble, so no more. LoL.

  • Mine has a filter that blocks blogs and social networking sites. Xanga, however, doesn’t get hung up in all that.

    Fair game.

  • I believe xanga could probably wait until I get home..

  • I don’t have access to a computer w/ internet at my job… besides I run around and chase kids w/ a camera all day — or get yelled at by the parents why one of their childs ears is higher than the other… so… no xanga @ work for me even if I could get on the internet…

  • If I worked at a computer, I totally would…. but still be very careful about it.
It’s either that or bring my own laptop (need to buy one) and remain on Xanga on that while I do my work on the main computer.
    = )

  • no that’s a good way to get fired on a technicality.  have a personal laptop or phone with internet capabilities and use that while on lunch, or in the bathroom!  then there is no keystroke record on company property that you visited personal sites.  if you have to log into a network with a pass code i would just avoid it all together.

  • I put pharmacy school info on my blog, so then it looks like it has something to do with school

  • if its easy to get away with, yes i’d do it

  • I work with computers at my job, so I definitely could, and really I don’t think my boss would mind because there are times when there’s really nothing to do at the moment…  But, just as common courtesy, and since I’m only there 4 hours a day anyway and have the rest of the day, I don’t use the computer for personal uses.

    God Bless,

    Chris

  • I’m just waiting for my IT peoples to check my xanga time and block it. =P

  • I thought you had a new job already…

  • If they made it a rule, heck yeah, I’d follow it.

That’s why you should get an iPhone :)   Like me!

  • PS:  Good luck!

  • yes, i would.  unfortunately almost every site at school is blocked, including Xanga, so I have to check it from my cell phone.

  • I do it all the time…They’ve never said anything..

  • How bored am I?

  • Good luck at your new job!!!! It depends on the company. Some places I’ve worked had super strict policies about the internet, and while I worked for them it just wasn’t worth the risk. Others however ignore their internet policy altogether. I think you just have to feel the waters…

  • Nope, Xanga is the one thing I don’t check from work.  That way I have something left to read when I get home.  :)

  • xanga was blocked at work for a really really long time.  I  was barely on here as a result.  Now, its unblocked (for now) and I’m at work currently.

If its not at an ad nauseum, I don’t see the harm.

  • I would and then erase the history.

I used to Xanga from school, but they blocked it…but oddly, Myspace works…

    Oh, the irony…

  • I can’t check Xanga or Facebook or Myspace from work. I work for the National Park Service, and those sites are blocked on DOI (Dept. of Interior) computers. In fact, I can only do this about once a week when I go to the library. Really I’m kind of lucky to work at a park which is near a town that has a library.

  • my old job had too many clueless people working in it to even figure out what xanga is. they blocked out all the other networking sites and instant messaging tools, but i figured out ways around them. and xanga definitely kept me sane.

  • PS – I vote for FreeeVerse.

  • no i would not ignore the rule.  there are certain things not worth the risk of losing my job.  xanga-ing is not a priority in my life and can wait until i get home.

  • If I was able to get away with it, then I might if I was really bored and had run out of work to do or something.

  • At work I’m not a rule breaker. I either use my own laptop and connection or my phone. Most days there is no time to even think about it.

  • I would check it until I got caught.

Is this an appropriate place to ask for ytour vote for Xangan Idol 2? Yay ETCACTOR!

    Michael

  • New job! Congratulations! =:)

Anyway, I don’t think it’s a good idea to break workplace rules, even the annoying rules. Best to keep out of trouble.

  • It is against the rules, and I can’t violate them because anything remotely fun is blocked. I think it’s unethical to use your company’s resources and hours for personal purposes anyway; that’s not why they pay you to be there.

  • Can’t.  Xanga is totally blocked.  As well as all forums, other e-mail services, social net-working, games, and many images.  Government shuts me down, so I’m 100% productive.

  • I am a jobless student, so I guess this doesnt apply to me =_=”.

Though if I were employed, it’d probably depend on how much I liked my job and how much I wanted to keep it.

  • i would go mad with they block xanga where i work. but it’s an internet based company, so it’s WWW free for all!!

  • Well I don’t work with a computer at my work, but if I did, and I knew I wouldn’t get caught, I’d probably check my Myspace, but not my Xanga. Xanga usually takes a long time to check.

    So Dan, did you cheat?

  • If it was against the rules…I usually follow the rules :-

  • That same rule applies in my office. However, I was given internet access for the reason that my boss gave our tech folks: to foster learning online. Going to Xanga means fostering learning online as you read blogs and read news from good writers and all … it fulfills its purpose. (^_^)

  • no; i’m more addicted to checking things on the geocaching website than on xanga.

  • I don’t think I could ignore the rule.  I’d be too afraid of getting in trouble.  But I’d probably still xanga on breaks and lunch.

  • Congrats on the new job, by the way

  • Perhaps during lunch? I’m not sure. We’ll find out soon enough though. :D

  • Evidently I read these posts out of order and sort of answered this question on the sequal post. I’m pretty sure I’m probably not “supposed” to be on here, but the firewall allows it, so whatevs. However, it doesn’t allow myspace/facebook. So the answer is yes, currently breaking it.

  • I worked for the government last year, and apparently people weren’t really supposed to go on all kinds of personal-use sites, but I did everyday; I even bought stuff online while at work. Noone noticed or seemed to care, so I guess it really doesn’t matter as long as it isnt inappropriate sites.

  • I’ve ignored this rule every single time at my job. LOL :P

And also, congrats on your new job. (^_^)b

  • Congrats on the job when do u start

  • I never do xanga or anything very personal on my computer at work. I don’t want anyone knowing my business and I know that sometimes they track stuff. I use my iphone to check xanga while at work.

  • No especially at the begging of a new job.  You always can check during lunch time.

  • my school filters out every other site like facebook except xanga…

  • yes, i spend way too much time on xanga. it’s probably unhealthy

  • To answer your question of December 2007, yes Jesus definitly is God, do you remember  Him saying in John 17 I think, that He and His Father are one.  Are you still living wholly for Him? I hope you are.

I have loved Him ever since I can remember. He is my best friend and confidant.

Never give up on Him, He will never give up on you.  I also believe that it will not be long before the those in the true church of Jesus Christ will be taken up to be with Him. You just have to look at the disasters that have happened in the world in past 2 weeks.  These kinds of things are happening much more rapidly than they used to. He said that when you see these things happening, look up for your salvation is near.  I just know in my Spirit that it is not far away now. It’s all very exciting, don’t you think?    Dorothy60

  • i definitley can’t do it!

  • No! My Xanga isn’t going to cost me my job.

  • You cannot sit me in front of a computer for 12 hours and think I wont.

You have to block it to stop me.
