Barbie Vs. Bratz
An epic battle is brewing between Barbie and Bratz.
The creators of Barbie are suing the makers of the Bratz doll. They are claiming that the person who created the Bratz doll worked for Barbie and actually created the doll while working for them. Here is the link: Link
My wife said she liked the more traditional Barbie doll. The Bratz doll is a younger and more edgy version.
I was watching a program this morning when the representative of the Bratz doll said it is time for Barbie to retire.

well there’s negative points for both…
1) bratz are slutty…13-16 year old girls wearing high heels, crop tops, short skirts, make up, showing everything they can…can anyone see a problem with that?!
2) barbie is an unrealistic image of women. well for 45 years she was until he proportions were testing and they realised that if she were a real person, she would fall over…her waist was too small and legs too thin to support her upper half.
3) barbie is the product of modern society now..divorced, single mother, dating new men…nothing that bad however, do we want to tell our children that this is their future?
4) bratz was a god awful film
when i have kids i’m going to get them disney dolls to play with…their more acceptable to me…mainly because i won’t like them idolising somehting so unsubstantial

Barbie all the way. When I was young, I would collect Barbies that had interesting professions (Veterinarian, Marine Scientist, etc) and that was what made the dolls fun. Barbie has an unrealistic body type, but she never made me feel self-conscious because I like her for her professions (especially the ones involving animals).
These new dolls, the Bratz, have obnoxious personalities that aren’t beneficial to young girls. They are told that what clothes you wear(the skankier the better!) and how popular you are are the most important things in the world, and it sickens me. @_@

I took her to the clothing department and pointed at a mini-skirt marketed for her age with cute floral stars on it. I said “would you wear that?” and she went “No!”, and then I said “Because I heard that is what they’re going to make the Bratz wear.Still want it?” To which she said “Nah, Bratz is now old.”

1. If the “Bratz” creators did their work while on the clock for Mattel’s “Barbie” productions, that puts them in violation of commercial codes and professional ethics.
2. Morally speaking, “Bratz” is a travesty of the “Barbie” line. The dolls not only promote sexuality among children, but so do their spin-off products. “Bratz” became notorious for its line of provocative underwear for little girls last year. Its recent flop of a movie likewise followed the current Hollywood trend of children as “sexual beings”.
While “Barbie” has carefully avoided the sexualization of children process that the pop culture has followed to the point of kiddie porn, “Bratz” openly embraces it. Its creators are capitalizing on that trend, despite the danger it poses to children in its adult concepts and the encouragement it provides to predators.

Barbie, definitely. I agree with everyone who said that the Bratz dolls are just teen sluts. Even though Barbie has gotten worse over the years, in some ways I think she’s more wholesome and is a much better role model for girls–she’s had like every job ever and (at least sometimes) dresses in a way that suggests professionalism or self-respect.
