Race and Crime
It is time for someone to stand up and state the obvious.
Black people commit more crimes than white people. I was just reading my favorite site that pointed out that “blacks are imprisoned on average 9.1 times as often as whites.” For too long we have been hearing that this is because of racism.
But everyone is afraid to point out the real problem. It is time that black people started taking personal responsibility and stop committing crimes.
If it was a racism issue, then the high imprisonment issue would be focused on the Old South. But the imprisonment issue is worse in some of the most liberal parts of the country. Take Washington D.C. for example. Blacks are 56 times more likely than white people to end up in prison in Washington D.C. Here is the link: Link
It is time for someone to stand up and to be unafraid.
We need black people to stop committing all of these crimes.
It is time for black leadership to stop complaining about black people in prison and for them to communicate a message of obeying the law.

Hmm.
I still say Dave Chappelle had a point when he said there was always a black person on the block with an intimate knowledge of the law.
“Fuck, nigga, don’t do that, that’s nine-to-five!”
“blacks are imprisoned on average 9.1 times as often as whites.”
This translates to - blacks tend to be found guilty more than whites.
@thisboyissexy - Good point.
Although, I do agree everyone – not only black people – should be responsible for their actions.
oh man… the comments on this topic should be interesting. i might even come back to read them.
Who’s button are you trying to push with this one?
@Drakonskyr - …5 to 10?
I agree but it isn’t just black people that need to come to that conviction. It is people of every race every color that needs to realize that the law is there for a reason. I am of the thought that if everyone were to responsibility for their actions than this world would be a whole lot better. No one can blamed for what you do except you.
Oh, the irony! Considering your last post, what I just posted and the first sentence on this one…aye yi yi. Stick a fork in me, Dan. Seriously.
Most black leaders are trying to teach and brainwash black people into thinking they are victims. Victimology leads to rebellion, jail and prision …AND dependence on the Jesse Jacksons, Al Sharptons and “liberals”. Futhermore where would the rap industry without the stereotype.
Our world in general sees the world in terms of race, gender and class. I, being a conservative, see the world in terms of good and evil. Stop teaching/brainwashing about race, gender and class and teach about right and wrong.
I love that some people don’t understand sarcasm.
Higher imprisonment rates pan out to higher rates of conviction, not crime itself. Isn’t language fun?
@another_rebel_without_a_cause - That was the joke.
Dan, you are going to get tons of liberal hate comments thanks to people who don’t get the joke.
To be serious, most white people I know that committed crimes were too smart to get caught for a few years or were never suspected in the first place. That and they found good lawyers. Doesn’t mean they didn’t do it- they just found out way to get out of it. Still, based on the prisons here (and the fact that my brother is a warden) that study seems to accurately portray people who are convicted (perhaps this just shows the lawyers are racist, eh?
) Do juvenile halls hold the same stats? Just curious.
Your next post should be about how ALL serial killers are white males in their 30′s who are on the internet way too much :stares at you:
@Drakonskyr - I learned so much from that man… :sigh:
Oy, I can see your message box filling up as I type.
HA!
HAHA!
…
Get it?
@another_rebel_without_a_cause -
Yup. Tell it how it is.
It has a little bit to do with race, but more with economic status. I’m pretty sure if you head down to a poor white neighborhood, you’ll have the same amount of white people going to jail as their black counterparts. The only difference is, there’s way more poor black people than poor white people.
@Lithium98 - Not here!
Which I can’t say is a good thing, because being poor sucks no matter what race you are.
It’s probably more complicated. If the Jury was mostly white and with modern racism the verdict can be biased. The verdict can have racist roots. Though I’m not surprised if there’s kernal of truth.
@Drakonskyr - Drak, nobody knows when you are joking and when you are serious
I completely agree.
@Drakonskyr - …I feel inadequate
Thanks Drak!
@another_rebel_without_a_cause - It’s all part of my mission statement.
people are often their own worst problem- regardless of color. this is a free nation- we have inalienable rights that protect all citizens not because of the government but because of the God on which this nation was founded.
and when one considers the sharp disparity of government and public funding that goes specifically to aiding minorities throughout the nation in nearly every venue one can think of- education, jobs, welfare… blacks should have no one to point to for their problems but themselves. Cincinnati- the home of the end of the “underground railroad” is home to tons of minorities and thus practically hands out help to these somehow “underpriveleged” people on a silver platter. but then they can’t leave the past behind them- they instead turn around and blame white people for all their problems. sorry, but I refuse to take any blame. I don’t cause black men to assault their wives and children. I don’t tell blacks to go get an abortion and thus kill off 3/4 of their upcoming generations. I don’t make blacks live in slums- heck I practically live in one myself! I’m not stopping any minority from getting an education or a job. So what gives??
The government and thus the tax payers of this nation are practically bending over backwards to accomodate the demands of blacks. In my opinion- blacks don’t really want to improve their condition otherwise they would’ve by now- they’ve had PLENTY of opportunity. I think they’re much more content to stay miserable and blame everyone but themselves for their own problems. Too many people from minority ethnic backgrounds in this nation have demonstrated to me that the options are open to those who are willing to put forth the effort in order to succeed. And I applaud any and all who do succeed- but I don’t think it’s fair for any minority to play the “race” card to manipulate people and blame whites for their problems because it’s simply untrue anymore.
You can bring a horse to water but you can’t make it drink…
In Memphis, Blacks are the majority, so sure there’s gonna be more in the jails. It’s sad to me how they can bad mouth me for just coming into their hood when I’m only doing my job but call me racist and they aren’t. I’ve never understood that one. I have no problem with blacks in my neighborhood, I mean it’s about 50/50 as it is. I agree about the black leaders though, they need to preach responsibilty and not victimisation.
Nobody wants to hear the facts…even when you are trying to be funny about it.
ooh, controversial subject.
OMG….what has the world come to when people can read a post like this and then make such assinine comments?
Read it again.
it’s all a product of the man
I was watching “The View” today. The ladies had a Doctor on talking about AIDS. Betwwen the Doctor and Whoopi Goldberg they were rattling off a bunch of statistics about how AIDS is extremely high in Black and Hispanic women. The cause evidently is Black and Hispanic men are more than likely than White men to have multiple sex partners, thus greatly increasing the risk of AIDS. They also stated a statistic that Many Black and Hispanic men are “in the closet” or “on the down-low” about secretly having sex with other men in addition to having their woman back at home. This is due to them having doing time in prison where they have become more open to same sex relations, thus greatly increasing the risk of AIDS. I think they said one in ten Black men in the south are imprisoned. I found that statistic astounding.
@adifferentkindofbeautiful - What do you mean by “Not here”, I’m a little unclear about what you’re trying to say.
That is so funny. Every time I get stopped by the cops they let me go. Even when I have drugs in my pocket.
I enjoyed the drugs greatly later.
I am whitebread cracker ass cracker.
I get away with murder.
There is actually a correlation with poverty too Dan, don’t forget that, and if it is a poor black person…well….that’s all she wrote!
Either black people commit more crimes, or white people are better at bribing the judges to get out of jail time. (Think Paris Hilton, etc.)
LETS JUST AVOID CRIME PERIOD.
make the world a better place
ahah yeah right I kid.
Funny or not – Most people will read the words “all black people” even though it wasn’t written.
You are correct but it will not happen anytime soon.
I don’t know the stats nor am I familiar enough with this issue to speak TOO much on it: Obviously this is a much larger social issue based on things stemming form racial discrimination=underemployed, lower wages (perhaps), thus higher poverty rates, desperation, crime…blah blah blah. I can’t spit out any stats, but this is just what comes to mind.
@thisboyissexy - I do agree with Dan that there needs to be more of an emphasis on obeying the law, but it should be to ALL races, because like you said, these statistics may just mean that blacks get convicted more often then whites.
sarcasm or not – it makes you think…
@Southernlass - There is actually a correlation with poverty too Dan, don’t forget that, and if it is a poor black person…well….that’s all she wrote!
Poverty is only a part of the story. Where is the poor Asian guy in all of this? Many first generation Asian immigrants had to start from scratch. How was it that they were able to work themselves into the middle class? How is it that they’re not overcrowding the prisons?
@ETCACTOR - Yeah, much like your own.
Interesting.
@thisboyissexy - This translates to - blacks tend to be found guilty more than whites.
And a good deal of those found guilty, acutually commited the crimes they were charged with.
not true in my neighborhood, drugs/alcohol abuse and related crime are an equal op offender.
Stupid racial profiling…
Ooo boy…
lol i do get the joke part of this entry but in reality….
i guess all i really have to say is that i DO think its stupid how black people are always complaining about how people treat them wrong “because theyre black”. i mean seriously, i DO NOT hate black people, but when you look at the stereotype they are dubbed as loud, obnoxious, all up in your face, hood, ghetto, gangsta, criminals, etc. and when you look at the world around you, its true you CAN NOT deny it. i live in houston…the stereotype it all around us. so when it comes to CERTAIN black people and their ” is it because im black?” all i really have to say is: SOME black people must be stupid to say that. they KNOW they have a bad REPUTATION for being this and that! so why LIVE UP to it? why not be one less of the bad stereotype and try to prove the reputation wrong?. i know that NOT ALL black people are criminals. there are a lot of good black people everywhere but my dislike for CERTAIN black people is not based on race but by their CERTAIN personalities. im just tired of hearing things like “its cause im black” and all that other stuff. i seriosuly do believe that some black people just need a reality slap. seriously, just think about it, why be that bad stereotype when a bunch of you guys can prove the stereotype WRONG?
Oh, I wish we could move past the “grouping” thing. Blacks, Whites, Asians, etc instead of individuals. Race doesn’t come with a code of behavior for everyone in that group…and also these “Black Leaders” as they’re called are not the sole voice for every Black person…While I’m sure you know this already, i find there’s a large group of people who don’t. I know both of my comments aren’t on your main topic of this post…but thats b/c I’m not touching it with a ten foot pole
Yea they really need to get their act together……
I question how come they (blacks) do what they do. I watch that channel on cable about prisons and inmates. Sooooo many blacks. From Cali to New Jersey….blacks in prisons everywhere! Why???????? Its not just in Cali…or in Texas…. but in every jail…majority are blacks. Whyyyyyy
Hahaha, yeah, I think that this is a good illustration of Poe’s Law.
@huginn - IMO, its the “Keep it real” culture that my fellow dumbass Blacks employ. So many are proud of being in the hood rather than trying to get out of it.
Pure stupidity.
Wow. I have to give you props. You have balls to say what everyone is thinking. Amen to you.
Unfortunately there are far too many people who think exactly like this and they aren’t being the least bit sarcastic about it.
But social problems are the problem of the society as a whole not of *them* or in this case “us” being as I’m black. If the conviction rate for women was much higher than that of men would we say that female leadership needs to stop complaining? Or would we say that we as a society need to determine what is the problem and do something about it?
Take harassment in the work place as an interesting contrasting example along those lines. Or inequity in gender pay scales.
Well I guess there are people who argue that those feminists should stop complaining about those things too so maybe they’re bad examples.
Anyway the reasons are always more complex than they seem.
@EarthsAzureLight - IMO, its the “Keep it real” culture that my fellow dumbass Blacks employ. So many are proud of being in the hood rather than trying to get out of it.
In many ways, I think this attitude is almost natural (as a defense mechanism).
Given the historical injustices of blacks in America, and the progression of the civil rights movement, I find what you’ve mentioned to be really really tragic.
*sigh* Next topic. History is doomed to repeat itself, because of the mistakes we, as people, make.
joke or no joke, im putting down my ten foot pole and walking away slowly.
i’m beginning to think you’re showing your true side through sarcasm.
I can never tell when you’re being sarcastic or not.
unconscious racism ftw.
Wow…this should be fun!
Statistics, how about a proper study of how many prisoners are exonerated through new DNA technology? What’s the ratio there? Everybody’s a racist, except young babies.
Well, actually… The MEXICANS run so fast that they dont get caught..in the act or crossing the border.
And whites arent always booked in for their crimes so the blacks are caught like deer with the light in their eyes.. Hahaha! Oh I just made myself laugh.
Im mexican,I can say whatever I want .
even if this is sarcasm on your part dan… i still agree… and i mean i go to class that is mostly black everyday… ive learned this past year so much about the black culture… and there are some great and interesting things… BUT they as a whole always feel like a victim… even when they dont actually… they know they can play it up… and i get more racist comments at me in a day than anyone of them… or all of the combined… but see… im no victim… say what you will because im above that… they arent… and thats what makes most of them have the ability to commit these crimes… its this seriously different way of thinking… its irritating that their man marting luther king jr said he wishes for equality but theyve pushed it way past that to the point that now i feel opressed on a daily basis… like when a black girl tells me i “seriously need a tan” …’scuse me… im scandinavian… this is my only shade… fuck off cuz i like it… how bout i tell you you need a little skin bleach… how would you feel about that??? and is it really appropriate for you to say to me that “for future reference if i EVER bump into a black lady id better say sorry as soon as possible”? no… i about slammed that bitch and showed her what sorta bumping into i could do… oh but wait… then id be racist… if they stopped thinking of themselves as victims and stopped hiding behind the race card theyd be happier as a whole… but dont try to tell them that… eh whatever… you can continue raising kids that end up in jail and ill continue raising successful rich ones… and the world will never change… i really think all the white people that bend over backwards need to stand up and say ALRIGHT ALREADY! weve bent so far backwards were kissing our own asses and we have more respect for ourselves than to give into your constant shit… were done with black miss america and bet and black only scholarships but no white onlys… were done… if you want something… work for it like the rest of us… were no longer handing you everything on a silver platter because that makes one hell of a rotten egg… anyway i could go on forever… and ps… i hope someone tells me this is racist cuz even though i agree that the stats cant lie… (and dont say its cuz whites know how to get out of it because that number is way too high for all that even though it may be the case a lot… its certainly NOT always the case…) i bed black guys all the time… i mean not ho levels haha… but you know what i mean… open mind here and believe it or not… THIS thought is more open that what were forced to have to think everyday were threatened with the race card… but im one of the few that look at it and say cute but i dont care… cuz youre wrong… im NOT racist and im SERIOUSLY offended when you say that to me cuz would you even THINK of saying that to your little black friend over there???
@nephyo - Love this!
I am not racist. However, I often find myself scared of black people. I had to go to a school in Flordia that was nothing but blacks ganging up on the whites. We were severely outnumbered. I had to pay someone my lunch money to protect me because I was constantly getting beat up on. They called me horrible white-term names and made my life a living hell. I do know a few decent black people, and they most definitely exist. But there is a large portion of blacks that scare the shit out of me because all they do is talk about rape, guns, drugs, and how white people have no right to be around them.
They make us scared; they make us “racist.”
That has to be the dumbest thing I read all day. I hope you were just being sarcastic, Dan. There is a reason for that statistic.
Whoa..”.@smileykaytie - ” isnt smiling
@papercup_alibi - Im scared of mexicans…. they seem like chiuhuahuas …
@smileykaytie - You’re are absolutely correct. The sooner they stop screaming about inequality while running their black-only schools, contests and whatnot, the sooner we can work on the issues at hand and stop the problems at the source. That’s not racist, that’s realist.
Dan, you are a brave man for poking the bee’s nest on this one.
@SpiritualBattlefield - we had a chiuhauhau.. never again.
This is a tough issue. I think in one of my Sociology classes in college this issue was tough to look at. There are numerous studies that show black and hispanics have a higher percentage in jail than other races (in America at least). However, they are also more illiterate and have a lower IQ, ACT, SAT scores in general. Some peopel say this is because of cultural differences, hard ecomic conditions, and hard family life; while others blame it on racist white people or some Africans/Hispanics who claim it is an excuse for thier race to live at lower, instead of higher, moral/ethical/intellectual standards.
Sometimes I feel life just sucks, there are just so many problems in the world today.
No matter what color the person’s skin may be, on the news there is usually some mother crying about how her baby never did anything wrong. When she’s talking about a guy that robbed a 7-11 and shot 2 people, with several witnesses, but in her eyes the cops are just picking on him. All these crying mother’s show that these people aren’t being taught to be responsible for their own actions, it’s not that you broke the law, it’s that the cops don’t like you, or the judge had it in for you, or the jury is biased. You had to something, the actual crime, hang out with the wrong people, or be in the wrong place to get arrested in the first place. And yes there are plenty of people that commit a crime and don’t get caught or get a good lawyer, but usually when you’re in jail you’re there because you did something.
I don’t know even if you’re kidding or not, but it’s true. I’m not racist, but it is true, think of it this way.
There are more poor black families than white families. This causes two problems-1. the parent(s) are at work all day trying to make some money leaving the kids free to roam the street with their friends. Without their parents to guide them, they can be persuaded to do bad things such as steal, do illegal drugs, etc. and 2. Some feel that they have a right to steal because they’re not making as much money as others (I know people like this).
Now I’m not saying there’s not white families like this, and I’m not saying that all blacks are poor, or that all black parents work all day and neglect their children. It’s just in general, more blacks are poor which can lead to the problems listed above. Some blacks are still being discriminated against when trying to find jobs and such, which is what can lead to this. Or, sometimes when parents don’t go to college, the kids don’t feel like they need to, and in the grand scheme of things, blacks have only recently started going to college (actually I may be wrong on that, maybe blacks and whites started going at the same time? Now I’m not sure, maybe I should scratch that last idea)
@huginn - Subtle sarcasm dear.
Drop the black and white thing, and let just say “People, stop commiting crimes”. Stuff like this makes it so uncomfortable for black people to walk down the street or into a store without being eyed, just waiting for us to rob the place or errupt with violence. This isn’t a race issue, it’s a messed up society with no morale issue. I am black and not a criminal. I do fess up to my wrongs, but how can you classify an entire race by someone else’s dumb mistakes? They (individual) need to take responsibilty for they actions despite the color of their skin.
According to my own personal opinion and what I learned in Sociology 101, the problem with blacks and crime should be looked into through the environment that blacks grow up with in (such as parents, neighborhood, school). Many blacks are socialized at school where they “learn” how to be and act black. And if their father’s were imprisoned in the past and they only have a single mother to raise them, they have less of a chance into going to college because there aren’t good role models as well as a fatherly figure. It’s wrong to say that we should disregard their race (I’m referring to color blindness) because it is an integrated part of their life-style and culture. You cannot disregard all the statistics and say there is no problem.
We need better role models out there and a better understanding of the black community. we need to understand the problem is with the white dominated society partly, as well as the black community.
the issue is complicated and there is no simple solution
Social Contract Theory, Dan.
But we are allowed to break society’s rules out of necessity. A disparing background filled with poverty, drugs, and violence leads many to commit crimes like selling drugs to support families, robbing stores for food or rent money, or joining gangs for protection. Obviously, this doesn’t cover all of those arrested, but you can argue that a great deal in Detriot and South Side Chicago do it out of necessity.
How to solve this problem, I have no idea. I think it starts with the education a student gets, but it also is extremely influenced by the parents and the other “raising” factors.
But I disagree (even if it is your sarcasm) that racism does play a major part in this. Just because they are put into jails more doesn’t mean that they aren’t aquitted more because of their race.
great post!!!
Due to the fact that I have been socially stigmatized because I am of Norwegian descent and a Canadian immigrant, I have been in an out of jail for most of my adult life.
In grade school I was called a Canuck and a Canadian Honker! I was traumatized, stigmatized and marginalized. On top of that I was the smallest kid in class, so I had to defend myself everyday. The constant fighting scarred me for life.
As a result I became drug addicted and robbed, beat and murdered to feed my addiction. My victims were mostly from the Canadian/Norwegian community, they were easy targets.
I am sure that life will get better, especially if I can convince the judge that I don’t deserve to be in jail, because I am just a product of many years of harassment and persecution.
Sorry, but. This issue is way more complicated than you make it seem.
@Drakonskyr - @another_rebel_without_a_cause - @seedsower - Notice how people started commenting here,”Im not rascist” ..Haha…It gets to em every time that blacks are a topic of discussion
@another_rebel_without_a_cause - pleeeease say that again. the idiots that dont realize its a joke and are agreeing with the post seem to be overlooking that point. its semantics you imbeciles.
@innerblondness - One way to equalize it would be to legalize drugs and tax them so heavily only people making 100 grand or more a year could afford to keep the habit…. everybody wins.
I agree to a point.
A lot of times these people commit crimes because of the socioeconomic status that they’re in.
I agree that it’s time for black people to stop blaming white people, racism, and slavery for the reason they are in a lower socioeconomic class.
I consider myself atypical from most african american girls my age and even african americans in general my age.
I hate the way some african americans act (see: stereotypically loud, “ghetto”, talking in slang, etc) because it makes it harder for those like myself who are mature and are not ghetto, etc.
@Drakonskyr - When did you get a mission statement? I thought part of your mission statement was not having one?
On the issue everyone seems to have an opinion. I think I’ll keep any serious answers out of it since this is a joke article.
Dan where do you find these sites?
I can’t tell if my sarcasm radar is off or if it exploded.
@Sapphirelle -
1. he was being sarcastic
2. are you serious? blacks make up 13 percent of the population and over 50 percent of the prison population. are you saying that black people are natural born criminals, thugs, and convicts? its too complex an issue to oversimplify it with “negroes need to take responsibilities”
@Endowedbythecreator - Hm. I missed the sarcasm. -_-
Well, I still don’t believe it’s fair that issues which include a racial factor tend to be ignored because it’s ”racist” to form an opinion on them. I’m not saying that blacks are naturally inclined to do such commit crimes, just that we should look at things more logically.
I’m sorry for seeming offensive. =(
Ahahaha… there’s a difference b’twixt conviction and actually committing the crime.
@Sapphirelle - no you were’nt offensive dont apologize. i was just saying that black criminals should be contextualized. Doesnt mean their crimes are justified in any way.
Here is the problem, Dan. We don’t have reliable black leaders. The solution is to go back to the days where we sterilize idiots, morons, and degenerates to preven their genes from propagating in society. Everyone knows degenerate traits and behaviors are passed on to children in a Lamarckian way. Children of prisoners will inherit the same traits and behaviors and therefore to prevent their crimes from being continued we must sterilize prisoners. That goes for everyone of every race. We also have to change our education system such that we stimulate the moral organs of the brains of children so that they will want to reflect on a pious and Godly life and not want to commit crime. Until degenerate traits are breed out of society, there will always be crime. Black leaders will be ineffective because of the environment most of them grow up in. Poverty breeds degeneracy. So in short, we need new black leaders that have been properly breed and educated that have no traits typical of blacks.
p.s. you said we need black people to stop commiting these crimes. are you saying it is OK for other races to commit crimes? Why should black people live to higher moral standards than others? We need to uplift the entire human race to ensure that we continue to evolve according to God’s plan.
I notice that every time you post something offensive A LOT of people attribute it to sarcasm.
There is this thing…it’s called the “blue wall.” The funny thing about the wall…it’s lined up with white men and women. White men and women, who all to often come into the law because of their need for power and control and to express their “views” freely. Blacks do not commit more crimes then whites…this is proven. Don’t ask me for the data…I don’t have it. But every Dateline, Hardline, Primetime special has stated as much over the years. Blacks are hunted more then whites when it comes to crimes because of racial views and profiling, especially drugs, although it has been proven that most drug dealers are middle class white persons. Serial killers are predominately white. Crimes of passion, again, white. Gang crimes, blacks and mexicans. Hold ups, blacks. Robbery…blacks. Domestica violence (that is reported) black. I’m sorry Dan, I am very disappointed with you and this post.
@PreciousOnyx - ”…this is a free nation- we have inalienable rights that protect all citizens…”
Apparently the government disagrees with God. Didn’t you hear about Bush’s destruction of habeas corpus?
@huginn - And, some people are never prosecuted for the crimes they commit to be found guilty.
@nkleyva - US Department of Justice
FYI
Homicide trends in the US 2005-2007 you can read the stats at the link below.
http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/homicide/race.htm
Agreed.
Unfortunately, like so many things, this often goes waaay back to all sorts of other factors, like being more likely to grow up in a crappy situation and thus more likely to commit crimes.
I agree with my mom, if we spent more time and money on programs like Head Start and other early intervention (gotta get to those kids early) we’d need less funding for prisons.
Thank you for standing up and saying what so many others are too afraid to say.
@valis10 - So even though blacks are “over represented”, from what I read, most of what I stated it true in terms of crimes and who commits them. I guess my question is since the Justice Departments has so much evidence of this…what is their plan of action? I’m guessing nothing. This material comes across to me as a affront of racial stereotyping and another nail placed in the ingnorant crate of hate and racism. They hand out this information with not causes to to why, where, or a plan of ac tion to intervene. Information like this can be more damaging then helpful. I can see school on Monday ( I tell middle school), “Did you read that article on black crimes? Yeah, that one over there fits the bill, so does that one. Oh, and him, yep, lost cause.” I work in an enviroment where black youth is the scum beyond the pond. Where they are all seen as future (if not current) criminals with no future per see. This article just kind of reinforces that negative vibe about blacks and the black community. Sure, you can say, oh, you are extraggerating, it’s just an article about crime. No, it’s evidence, provided by the DOJ about blacks and their criminal history. An article that does on fairly represent any one. I’m still disappointed.
Hahaha… Love the sarcasm.
It’s not that, it’s the percentage wise for the same crimes, blacks are put in prison more frequently than whites.
@nkleyva - My observation on all the the discussion presented here is that the focus of culbability needs to me moved from class and race to the individual.
Individuals need to step up and take responsibilty for their actions. Am I responsible for white rascism, NO, no more than you are responsible for the actions of your race.
Is our society perfect, NO, is justice perfect, No, never will be. Can you and I make a difference, YES, only if we demand from ourselves and those we associate with a higher level of accountability.
I’ve heard some black leaders say similar things but their voices are drowned out by those of black youth culture dominating gangster rappers who teach the impressionable that to be a crook is to live the good life. Hence you have a trend towards criminal behavior that is perpetuated by the greed of a few profiteers and which pollutes black society from within.
@nkleyva - continued: You only have control over yourself. Do you and I LIVE unconditional love. It really is not about race, it really is about you and I and how we are going to respond to those who cross our paths on a daily basis. You or I can make it about race, but that is just a smoke screen.
If you want to have acceptance, you must be acceptance.
I live in acceptance. I accept that race will always be an issue. We do not live in a black and white world. No, our world is black, white, brown, yellow, and every shade in between. Life is about color, period. Your favorite color, your least favorite color, colors that look good on you, colors that fade you out. Red is the new black, black is the new white. Colors have connotations. Red is love, pink is admiration, white is friendship or purity, black is death. Everything about our lives is about color, including skin color and the connotations that go with it. Those are the facts. I accep that 95% of the black community in my town does not represent me. I am educated (I have a degree and working on a masters), I have good credit, I own a home, my children not only know who their father is, but guess what I was married to my eldest children’s father and my kids father now (and neither of them have been in jail, are affiliiated with a gang, or sold drugs), I speak proper English, and I don’t listen to rap music. In some stereotypes that would almost make me white, heh? I accept that my children will never represent the black stereotype. I accept that no matter how educated or refined I am people are always going to be on the lookout for that “moment” when I “turn” and they can have something to wag their finger at me about, “see, told you she was one of “them.” I accept that when people first meet me that I must prove myself instantanously, being that the minute I open my mouth I must show them that I am not a nigger but a human being first. I accept and I have taught my daughter’s to know that this is part of being an educated black person in America. I accept that being who I am there is truly no room for me in the black community and barely room for me in the white one. I am to most an enigma, something to be stared at and questioned. I accept for the rest of my days I will be berated with the question, “Miss, are you black or what? Because you dont’ act black” or referred to as “pseudo” black. These are the realities of my world. That does not make me love my people any less, it only make me want to help them more. And my people are everypeople…Italian grandmother, a Spanish grandmother, and Irish grandfather, and a black grandfather. Therefore, when half-baked information like that is disseminate without cause or conclusion, acceptance is not a word that comes to mind. More like “plaque” with the issues it can cause.
The problem resides way in our country’s history. Throwing blacks in the ghetto with poor housing conditions, no rights to make their own sort of living, and watching them painfully struggle for an idea of equality that our fore-fathers BASED this country’s constitution on.
Yes, I do think a lot of Black Americans take the stand of self-pity that was birthed through the media and now drives the lives of many, and it is aggravating. I have NOTHING against black people, my very best friend is black. I love her to death and would stand next to her through ANYTHING. But I also believe that I love her because she has never used the race card to get something out of life. She’s had a tough, harsh, and unforgiving life, but she has also never turned to crime to solve her problems.
So I guess what I’m saying is the black crime rate is much more than a statistic and to solve it, the problem needs to be torn out at the roots rather than a simple hedging by the government or a court of law every-now-and-then.
P.S. I think you were trying to be humorous in this post, and I can see that a little bit. I guess I just wanted to speak my mind! :Shrugs shoulders:
@nkleyva - Dude, you rock. I feel slightly ashamed because I lead my cusiony white-female life. You really give me a reason to be a better person. Thanks
Whatever I said that inspired you, you are welcome. Thanks for the compliment.
I totally agree with you. It seems like black people don’t have any respect for the law or for other people.
Haha, you tell them, Dan!
Seriously, our legal system is such a joke right now. Actually, it kind of always has been a joke. There is no such thing as justice in America.
I agree.
