  • To Keep and Bear Arms

As I mentioned in my photoblog, the Supreme Court ruled yesterday that Americans have a constitutional right to own guns.

Supreme Court Strikes Down D.C. Gun Ban, Upholds Individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms

The District of Columbia had a ban on handguns and the Court ruled that ban as unconstitutional.

The Second Amendment reads, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”  Here is the link:  Link

What is interesting is that the ruling was really close with a 5-4 vote.

Do you think it was the intent of those writing the Second Amendment to allow for citizens to have a handgun in their home?

  • Conservative or Liberal

Do you think I am a liberal mocking conservatives or a conservative mocking liberals?

  • All-Stars

A baseball league in Beachwood has cancelled an All-Star Game for 9-12 year olds.

The thinking is that an All-Star Game singles out certain kids as being better players than the others.  The National Alliance for Youth Sports has “strongly discouraged all-star games.”  The game itself puts the focus on the few instead of the whole group.  Here is the link:  Link

Do you think 9 to 12 years old is too young to be singling some children out as better than the others?

  • Xanga Accounts

I have noticed how many people around xanga have multiple sites.  People will message me all the time from one of their other sites.  And then all of a sudden I will realize they are from another site.  Sometimes they informed me of this when they first started the other site but that is hard to remember.

Then others create other sites just so they can write their private thoughts.  They want to hide their thoughts from their friends.  Some people create other sites so they can leave mean messages on other people’s sites.  A few of them are Christian and realize how wrong it would be to leave a mean message from their Christian site.

How many sites have you had the whole time you have been on xanga?

  • Marriage Age

A Saudi Marriage official said last week that it’s ok for girls who are 1 year old to marry.

He said, “You can have a marriage contract even with a 1-year-old girl, not to mention a girl of 9, 7 or 8.  But is the girl ready for sex
or not?” What is the appropriate age for sex for the first time? This
varies according to environment and tradition.”   Here is the link:  Link

What do you think is the youngest acceptable age for a person to marry?

  • Death Penalty and The Rape of a Child

The Supreme Court ruled that “it’s unconstitutional for Louisiana to impose the death penalty on prisoners who have been convicted of raping children.”

Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote “the death penalty is not a proportional punishment for the rape of a child.”  Here is the link:  Link

Is the death penalty a proportional punishment for the rape of a child?

  • Housing Bailout

The U.S. government is close to passing a $300 billion bailout for homeowners.

The government will be creating a fund that helps those who financed homes with variable interest rates that have moved up or just have otherwise costly loans.  It would help up to 400,000 “troubled” homeowners.

They could refinance costly mortgages and make them more affordable and backed by the government.  Here is the link:  Link

Do you think your tax dollars should go to helping those who are struggling to make house payments?

  • Driving Too Slow

It is possible in Seattle to receive a ticket for driving too slow even if you are going the speed limit.

“It is a traffic infraction to drive continuously in the left lane of a
multilane roadway when it impedes the flow of other traffic.”

So even if a person is going the actual speed limit, if they are holding up traffic they can be given a ticket.   Here is the link:  Link

  • Holding Hands

Former President Bill Clinton is in the news because a photo was taken of him holding hands with a young woman.

The woman is said to be one of his wife’s aids.  Here is the link:  Link

Would it make you jealous if you found a photo of your significant other holding hands with a member of the opposite sex?
