Teeth Whitened
I am half tempted to get my teeth whitened.
Every time I walk in the mall, I see people getting it done one of those center displays.
I had a friend who used the strips to get her teeth whitened but it made her teeth look funny.
My main concern is that it will damage my teeth.
Are you tempted to get your teeth whitened?
Comments (113)
yeah totally… but I heard that it does damage your teeth and makes it weaker.
Well, currently being pregnant, I can’t. I’ve used those gross strips before and they just don’t stay put. I’ve also used the paint-on stuff and it does work but feels horrible. Also, if your teeth are at all sensitive it will probably hurt a bit.
No. I dont know .. I feel like it’s unnatural
But your face will look crazy when you smile!
I have been tempted, but I pass-for the reason I heard it makes your teeth weaker and more porous.
I was, but my dentist (who is a family friend) said that it’s not great for your teeth. It breaks down the enamel that we need to keep healthy teeth….and I don’t want to have dentures prematurely (or ever, if I can avoid it), so I’ll pass.
@SamsMom1004 - Yeah I agree. I’ve used the strips before. They’re pretty gross.
No, my teeth are already realy white. But i guess it depends on how they look after i get my braces off. Beauty over pain… yeah so what?
@California_Gal – thats what I thought might happen… not good at all
Very much…
I am afraid it’ll mess them up. Scary stuff, Daniel Boone. Just going to the dentist every 6 months and properly getting cleanings and maintenance like normal people do, should be enough. no?
You could just brush them. It saves money.
Oh, I want to do a lot of things with my teeth…
But anything that even has the potential to damage teeth is a no go for me. Not worth the risk. Kind of like laser surgery that’s supposed to correct vision and makes one go blind instead. O_O
yeah.
Nope, my teeth are fine the way they are, if I smoked I prolly would, but thank goodness I never did. Brushing my teeth everyday works for me!
Mine are already blinding white. As in, we go to play laser tag and I’m the only one with the radioactive smile…So I am in no way ever considering that…
You could always just get half of your teeth done and then you can see what it’ll do. =]
Not really tempted. But I’m interested…
You watch, in a few years they’ll be saying that white light thingy causes brain tumors! The things people do to make themselves look better on the outside just kill me, work on the inside folks, THATS where it counts!
Already did
. A year a go, I tried Crest White Strips and it made my teeth feel weird, I guess more sensitive and sometimes the product would get on my gums which irritated them. But it worked, the change was noticeable but it wasn’t too over-the-top white. Maybe you should ask a dentist to see if your teeth can take it? I’m definitely not going to try it again though because of the risk of damage. Plus, my teeth weren’t terribly yellow to begin with.
I’m currently in the process of whitening mine. I’m using Nite White. It’s like… molds with some solution and I leave them in for an hour. They hurt sooo bad though, but I’ve gotten compliments already after 4 days.
Dont use the products that you see on television or in a store. The best thing to use is from the dentist office. It worked for my daughter, she has the best teeth.
Yeah, so tempted, but I have a small cap on a tooth that was cracked in the front, so I’m not sure if it would be discolored.
I had my teeth whitened through my dentist and I’m very happy with the results. It’s like everything else….do it in moderation. Use the products as directed by your dentist and you’ll be fine. The people who have problems are the ones who are obsessed over having blindingly white teeth and use the whitening products long term.
With all these provoking questions you throw out, wouldn’t “sharpened” be more appropriate?
No, I’m tempted to brush and floss daily so my teeth not only look good but are actually healthy. Crazy talk, I know…
Not professionally, no. I have people tell me that my teeth are really white, so I guess I don’t really need it. I think it’s only because I brush my teeth too much. Whitening toothpaste seems to do the trick.
yes yes yes yes yes yes
i hate my teeth mainly cause i drink coffee religiously
Very.
I would like to get mine done. As a smoker for the past 34 years I am sure it would be an improvement
No. I use whitening toothpaste and I can tell a difference. Although, I have been using it for a few years now. Oh, do you trust the people who do that in the mall? Do they wear white lab coats? Personally, I do not trust them at all.. it’s just part of their gimmick to get you to trust them…. that they’re “doctors” and they “know what they’re doing” and it’s “totally safe”.
I have never considered it for one main reason. It is a purely cosmetic procedure and I never really cared much about my appearance.
I’m totally tempted to get my teeth whitened. I’ve never heard anything but good stuff about having it done.
No…unless your teeth are black or something, it’s not worth the money or the risk. Those products probably do more harm than good.
yeahhh I’ve tried the strips but they’re gross
No, not really.
no need… they’re all ready white from good hygiene
-adieu, stace
I’m curious about the mall stand, but I’d never want to sit there in a crowded mall, with people walking around, seeing me have dental procedures
I’d be more interested if there was better privacy. In addition, I would like to know if there is potential dental damage?
oh because i smoked, i whitened my teeth twice a year every year before this. but i think imma cut it down to once a year now. i don’t use off-the-shelves products though. i go to the dentist to get it done.
If you’re going to run for President, you need blinding white teeth. That’s key. Nothing else really matters.
I am not because I hear it weakens the enamel.
Soo tempted.
nope. no desire here. I think that it weakens your teeth.
i had the paint on stuff. works, but you have to keep on using it and using it other wise they just go back to what they were like. so I just stopped using it, its not worth the money, I just use Colgate whitening tooth paste and it seems to work pretty good. Its got peroxide bubbles in it.
I definiatly want to
VANITY!
….lol I’m kidding, we all want to be the best looking as we possibly can
Nope, thought never even entered my mind. Except for now. Out, out darn thought!
Yes, but not whitened…PURPLED.
Yeah, a little.
I am. I have used the strips but never consistently, just random days. But when I see people with super white teeth I am jealous!
No I am too afraid of the long term affects.
i would like to get mine whitened some day…
whoa that’s so cool i’ve never seen that o_o
naw that white light stuff looks like it can cause cancer
Yes, I am tempted…but I know that I’d make it a big hassle.
oh I WILL get my teeth professionally whitened!!! I’m exited. First I must save up money for it
Not really, that looks a bit unnatural.
And brushing and flossing seems to work pretty well!
crest white strips kept my teeth white for two years!
i did them four years ago and im planning to re-whiten them.
I used whitening toothpaste for a while…
Maybe that’s why I had to switch to Sensodyne…
Meh, my smile is purty enough on its own.
@mileyfan08 - Wow, I wish I had a radioactive laser-tag smile! ;P
I have considered trying something to whiten my teeth… but I’ve never even heard of that method. Guess they don’t have that where I come from. The risk? Prolly not worth it. I’ll go with gross strips and stinging goop first.
I used white strips about 5 years ago and it turned out great on my teeth, I’d definitely use them again
I’d try it, I’m sure. I brush at least twice a day (with prescription toothpaste, no less), and they aren’t anywhere near as white as I’d like them to be.
Might be nice to have whiter teeth, but I’d prefer to keep my enamel intact.
I would love to get mine whitened, but I can’t right now because of my braces. D: I can’t really whiten my teeth if I have braces covering it, haha!
Yes, I have been peer pressure into getting my teeth white. I tried the strips one for 10 days and it look pretty good on the day of my brother’s wedding. However, my teeth felt sensitive and uncomfortable while I using the strips plus they are way too expensive. Overall, I think it’s not worth it and plan not to use the strips again.
I used to whiten my teeth with Crest Whitestrips, but lately I’ve begun to brush my teeth with a Supersonic toothbrush and baking soda. The toothbrush is expensive, but I don’t have health insurance anymore and a friend of mine said that she’s been using the same method and hasn’t gone to the dentist in five years.
Yeah, but then I hear a George Michael song and I change my mind.
I tried the Crest White Strips and they worked, but they made my teeth really sensitive so I stopped using them….turns out you’re not supposed to use them everyday lol. I might try again, but we’ll see.
I believe its like losing weight, they shouldn’t just happen overnight, otherwise I would def think there are side-effects to it.
Not really. I think it’s probably going to end up damaging them.
It just seems so unnatural. There’s always some type of new product being advertised and then a year or two later, we find out it’s cancerous or damaging or something.
Like Splenda.
The instruction on each package would tell you to avoid in contact with your gum, how the heck would we be able to actually do that?
Ohnoway. I hate the dentist.
I used Whitestrips with modest success. My teeth aren’t incredibly stained to begin with though.
If your worried why don’t you go to the dentist and get it done? They are the professionals when it comes to teeth after all.
Tempted? Shoot..I’m down with that..but I’ll probably have the dentist do it. There would be no way I’d try that doo hicky that you have posted & my teeth come out all jacked up b/c some got white and some didn’t. And the strips..well, they don’t work! They should yank those off the shelves.
i had braces so i got in the habit of brushing over 5 minutes at a time and ive always had white teeth
No.
I sooner have any treatment I need doing by the dentist and whiting if I could afford it by the professionals than messing about with things I am unsure about.
I get these power cleanings regularly at my dentist. That’s not really whitening but I like it. But once you have started you have to do it again and again and it’s quite expensive.
I wouldn’t try the homesets, if I was you.
By the way, do you know the one part of “friends” when Ross whitens his teeth?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUIyiOc-_IA
Yes. I have been a major coffee and iced tea drinker for a long time.Everyone on my moms side of her family drinks iced tea like it’s going out of style, you would think its in my genes. Haha.
I would love to get my teeth whitened. But I tried a toothpaste, and I can’t remember the brand now, but it came in a white plastic container that you push down on the top of it and two different toothpastes come out that you use together. I saw results from that in just a few days. I would highly recommend that over anything more drastic first. I think the brand started with Ment. I am not sure if it is Mentadent or not.
the pros are out to make money..and why not they spent a lot of money to become somebody.a friend became a dental hygentist it cost her 800 for the test 400 for the chair..and she had to pay 2x cause they were picky n failed her cause her patient didnt have enough tarter! so she tried the exam again
and that’s after schooling! at home treatments do work well to whiten.. using an automatic toothbrush every day with whitening tarter control paste is a huge 1st step to brighter teeth.
The strips are safe, but slowish and expensive. The gel that you put into a retainer like thing, those made my teeth REALLY white, like A LOT of shades different.. but only in spots! I had, like, dalmation teeth. Then next thing I knew my enamel was wearing off massively. Be careful Dan, I’d see a dentist and have him do it if anything.
i would. it’s that and lasik for me next.
How did it damage he teeth?
Wow those things are incredible. Here we have to pay a half months salary for teeth whitening
Nah, never thought about it. It just makes your teeth weak.
@darkoozeripple - Now…that’s one of the most “sharply” intelligent responses I’ve read on this site in a very long time. Kudos..man!
How about this re-phrase of your question, Dan. Are you tempted to brush your teeth on a regular, daily basis to avoid damaging your choppers???
Nope. My teeth are fine just as they are.
There are very effective ways to whiten your teeth – I knew a couple people in college who got it done and their teeth were pearly!
I used the strip things a while ago, and they really did make my teeth sensitive afterwards. They’ve gotten better now, but I don’t really think it’s worth it.
Nope, I’m not tempted at all. I heard that the strips can actually strip off some of the enamel on you teeth, and who knows what that light thing could do. I’m perfectly content with my non-white, healthy, and strong teeth! Anyone who is going to judge me based on the color of my teeth isn’t worth my time anyway…
i would pay by going to a real dentist. i don’t hear good things about these off-the-shelf products.
according to one of my friends it also bleaches your gums so then when you smile your mouth looks funny… and then your teeth can become really sensitive… better off just brushing 3 times a day.
I would like to, because I have a yellow spot on my tooth and my dentist told me six years ago it would ‘go away’. It’s not a cavity, and they have no idea what it is. =[
i love pearly white teeth!
@WakeUpLaughing - I have the same opinion as you. I had my teeth whitened a few years ago at the dentist’s and I really loved the results. My teeth were a little yellower than normal (though I’ve never smoked and have always taken great care of my teeth) and it made me self-conscious. And I’d tried Whitestrips before and got no results. After I had my teeth whitened I felt more confident. Once every year or so I do a little more whitening when my dentist tells me to, and it keeps up the results.
And guys–don’t worry about your teeth getting too white. Your teeth will naturally hit a whiteness plateau after a few treatments as long as you don’t go crazy about it. If they are a bit too white for your liking it will fade out after a little while but will still leave you with whiter-looking teeth than before.
I highly recommend whitening for anybody considering it.
Not really and if I did, I certainly would do it anywhere but at the mall. You have to wonder about the quality of having your teeth whitened while your family shops.
Actually, yeah. I feel like I have really ugly teeth.
i want to, too! i’ll try if you do! ^^
Nope.
Anyone else think of the one episode of friends where Ross left the gel on for too long?
I used one of those things in the center of the mall. It’s pricey, but it’s good for three years and very worth it.
yes!
yes i already fell into temptation.
I used the Crest whitestrips. They’re great. ‘Specially if you can get a coupon – they used to offer them on the official site, iono if they still do.. but I’ve used them twice. Did no damage to my teeth nor did it do any to my other 10+ that have used them. The thing with the strips are, they’re annoying in your mouth. They tend to slide and you constantly have to readjust them.
I was talking to someone who must have used one of those strips. her front four teeth were white, but the rest weren’t. I couln’t stop staring at her teeth when we were talking because of the discrepancy between the rest of her dingy ones and the four white ones! It was VERY distracting!
i have always wanted to do it but like you said .. my main concern is that it will ruin my teeth more than they already are lol some one said they thin out your teeth … dunno how true that is …
@Dare2BDiferentt - I second that.
@darkoozeripple - I also second that. We can all file them down to look like the dude from Sleepy Hollow. lol
@sarahb_86 - Now you’ve got me fantasising that Dan is really Christopher Walken.
@darkoozeripple - Glad I could help.
I think I would spend the money on the dentist’s to get them professionally whitened and then put protective enamel on them.
Oh yes.
I’ve heard bad things about it too. I’d like to but I’m not CRAZY about it either.
nope..i already have pearly whites =]
