I would be very careful about how I worded things when waving my little wand. If I had my way, no one would suffer loss of life. However, that’s not possible and…
…there are just too many variables here.
I would make em not get pregnant with a permanent condom ..
i don’t think that one person can make that decesion for every woman. personally i don’t believe in them, but some people do…and that’s their choice
Well you know how wishes work, if I could wave a wand then there’d be no more unwanted pregnancies (I’m not talking about unexpected ones, because that doesn’t really mean unwanted). So sure I guess.
I’d probably stab a baby with that wand.
No, what about the people that cannot live through childbirth? Especially if the birth is going to be dangerous for the mother AND child.
Uh… no?
while I am against abortion as a form of birth control, my answer is no
The abortion thing… is up to them really. It doesnt pertain to me or my life…. And its none of my business if they do it or not
Absolutely not. It’s not your choice to make.
No, never.
How would we do that, make babies invincible?
No.
The choice of whether or not to have an abortion shoudl go to the person in the best position to make an informed decision: The mother.
not my place.
You’ve asked this question (are we for/against abortion) in various forms a zillion times before. I think we all know who would and who wouldn’t by now!
Not all abortions are bad. Some a necessary in order to save the mother’s life.
Even though I do not approve of the reasoning behind a majority of abortions, no I would not.
Only if the magic wand was a crude referrence to my penis…sure. But I doubt that waving it would affect abortions.
no
Including spontaneous abortions (miscarriages)? Yes.
@fullmetalbunny - I know! 0.0 Completely unexpected one there, I must admit.
No.
Why not just make it mandatory for every female of every species to have as many children as they are naturally able to once they hit puberty?
No, it’s not your choice
If I had a magic wand, I’d point it the closest asshole and scream AVADA KEDAVRA!
Nawhh
Yes, yes, YES! God decides when a person should die, NOT us. And babies inside the womb are people already. It’s heartbreaking to stop that precious beating heart before it’s ready.
No way, abortion rights need to be protected
@rccalyn - not everyone shares your beliefs though
No. I don’t think I would. Because I’m not entirely sure I’ll never want one…
No fucking way. There has to be balance. Being ignorant of a female’s fiscal and emotional situation, and still wanting to pick up that “magic wand” to outlaw abortion is absurd. I don’t understand why people don’t want women to have choices. No woman should be subsidiary to a fetus.
It would depend on how exactly the magic wand intends to accomplish this. For example, suppose I accidentally made it so that there was no more sex? oops.
My magic wand would include another super power: that all babies be born to loving families who are willing and able to care for them financially and emotionally. This wand would also end the foster care system, stop abusive parents, and give children the love and respect they deserve.
If those things can’t happen, than abortion should remain an option.
@rccalyn - Yes, yes, YES! God decides when a person should die,
If this is the case, with magic and fireworks, God would intercede any and every attempted abortion. But he doesn’t, does he?
No. God either doesn’t exist, or he left it up to us to decide for ourselves.
No, because sometimes I think abortions are necessary. If someone just gets one because they made a mistake or whatever and don’t feel like dealing with it, then I believe they should not be allowed to have an abortion. But if the child will have a terrible disease for their whole life or if the woman was raped, I believe then an abortion is justified; so I would say no.
I’m definitely pro-life for certain situations, but under those circumstances, I would think it would be acceptable.
No. I believe that abortion is wrong but I believe that the option should still be there.
I would definatly do away with abortions. I have a 6 month old baby girl and when I first found out that I was pregnant, I was scared and wanted to have an abortion, but I didn’t and I’m so happy, that I didn’t do it, because she’s the best thing in my life and she means more to me, then anything out there.
No.
Yes.
Pssshhh, what’s the worst that could happen?
@ficklemistress - Yeah! What you said. I was trying to figure out how to word it like you did, but I didn’t really manage it.
I would like to waive a magic wand and make abortions unnecessary and unwanted- could the wand protect women from terrible circumstances? from being raped, from incest, from accidental pregnancies, etc. Cuz that is a wand I would wave all over the place. A lot of people aren’t READING your question. You didn’t say wave a magic wand and make abortion illegal, just that there would not BE abortion again.
@hannahtan528 - But sometimes, your happiness isn’t the end-all-be-all. Sometimes, not all women will be as happy as you are now.
@weirdbean - Doing away with all abortions would flood the foster care system with millions and millions of babies without anywhere else to go. Those mothers who would have previously gotten abortions would go on to birth the babies- possibly under unsuitable conditions for the birth and even prenatal care- and then dump the babies, if not in a trashcan, then on the foster care system, where there would be no one to take care of them.
But if the worst that could happen is still okay, then maybe no more abortions is alright…
Yes because I believe that only God can allow a person to become pregnant and if He has brought a baby into this world, it should not be killed. I think there’s a certain sanctity of life that our society has largely lost.
@huginn - Ideally wouldn’t the fetus be in the best position to say whether or not it has a right to exist?
why don’t we ask the millions of children that never had the chance to live.
Nope… that would be a little bit like removing free will…
@ELBOWpasta - Yes, but everyone that I spoke to, who had an abortion, they all regretted it.
No.
What if we could use the magic wand to make abortions unnecessary? Those who are unfit, unwilling, or whatever to have child [even if it's just for a particular moment in time] would be unable to conceive a child. Instead of ridding the world of abortions, we rid the world of the root of them?
And if what I replied with has already been stated, I apologize for reiterating it.
Absolutely.
@hannahtan528 - I guess the only thing that I can say to that is that you haven’t spoken to the right recipients.. And perhaps, she can regret it, but also accept that it was the right thing to do in the situation she was in.
No I would rather everyone knew what it was they were doing, when they choose an abortion. I would rather they did not want to kill their own child.
And since we are talking magic, I can do what ever i want to. I don’t need to follow your rules
I’m very pro-life. But, I had a friend who had heavy bleeding in her first two months of pregnancy to the point where she could have died. And, if she had died, so would the baby. Hence, she had an abortion, as it were. The baby was alive at the time, although the doctors said it wouldn’t have lived much longer, even if the mother had held out.
I would say, “No more abortion except to save the life of the mother–and not just the ‘mental health’ of the mother.”
In a heartbeat. Life is to precious to simply sacrifice our children to the god of “choice”.
But, if we made abortions disappear, we would have to totally rework the adoption system to make adoption more efficient, affordable, and reliable. But that’s something that needs to be done, anyway.
No way.
@huginn - Be careful. You should also note that a doctor must consent to provide his services in performing the procedure, and you must allow for exceptions such as mentally retarded or child moms-to-be.
No.
Absolutely. And I’d see to the funding for decreasing ectopic pregnancies- we once thought open heart surgery and flying were impossible- so why not correcting ectopic babies without aborting them???
@EilisAngelos - there are way too many variables. Just how magical is that wand anyway? Can I also eliminate all unplanned pregnancies? Can I guarantee no loss of my rights as a Christian? While I personally do not at all agree, nor could I choose to have an abortion – I also don’t want the government to tell me what I can or cannot do with my own body / choices / freedoms. I don’t get to tell others when to sin or not sin, why is this any different? My opinion does not give me the right to judge others much less tell them what to do or not do. So in answer to the original question, I guess it depends on how magical that wand is….
no
@Mom4Him - I’m not sure if I could have said it better myself. Exactly the reason why I mentioned the variables being too numerous.
Yes, if that wave of my magic wand also included social service systems that loved and supported all moms through their pregnancies and adoptions were quicker, cheaper and easier – there are so many parents out there who would love to adopt the infants that would become available, immediately upon their birth. Â There would be no need for foster care if all the babies that weren’t wanted were allowed to be adopted right away.
so basically, you just wanna know whether or not your audience supports abortions. why didnt you just ask the question straight up??
@musicmom60 - Exactly what i think. The adoption system, in my opinion, is one of the most racist systems in the country, since the agencies try to adopt out babies to same-race parents. Race should not be an issue. The issue should be whether or not the adoptive parents would provide a loving, nurturing home. I also believe that there should be services that help and support pregnant women, but those kind of centers exist! There are lots of non-profit pregnancy centers that provide counseling, ultasounds, and other services. There’s one in my area that does great work.
Yes. An abortion is the taking of a life.
nope. there are reasons why people do it, and im not gonna take that option away from them. everyone deserves to make their own choice.
Personally, I am against abortion. That being said, I think that we live in a democratic society where we fought for the right to make personal choices, therefore to take that choice away from someone would be wrong.
@ELBOWpasta - No matter what you say, abortion is killing.
@maxxysmommie - But what is more important? Allowing a child to have a future or personal choice?
@hannahtan528 - I agree. But sometimes… It’s warranted. And it’s brought a balance to our society that would completely shake our country if it were to be eliminated.
yeah. I mean, I’d do the same for murder, or theft, or crime. rape, incest. anything like that.
If I had the power to prevent death, hurt and loss?
fuck yes.
No. To quote a picture i have on my computer (and i don’t believe in god) “Abortion sends babies to god faster.” I use this everytime theists say abortion is bad. Yeah, well, suck it, I just punched your baby’s nads.
@KechiNeko244Â - Yes, here too, and many centers that even help with prenatal care, food, maternity clothes, baby furniture and clothes, diapers, etc…if she keeps the baby and doesn’t make an adoption plan. Â Women who are considering abortion often don’t realize how many resources, and loving people, there are out there to help them through this difficult time and support them in order that they can give birth and choose a life for that child. Â These organizations, in my opinion, also need to be sure to help the birthmom after she places the baby, as well…I think many of them do.
You’re absolutely right, race should not be an issue – all babies should be able to go home with a loving family, no matter what color anyone is. Â It’s the “love” and “family” that matters.
I have mixed opinions on this issue, I’m not quite sure that I would. On one hand – I hate to see innocent babies die just because its parents made a “mistake” or something like that. One the other hand – I think that women should have the choice of having an abortion. There’s a lot more to it than that, but I’m just trying to keep it short and sweet.
I am against abortion but I would have to say no. People who feel so strongly against having children that they choose to abort shouldn’t be having them anyway. The world doesn’t need any more children raised by horrible parents. But above that, I believe it is a choice to be made between the parents, especially the mother, only.
That depends, will females continue to get pregnant?
If so, than No. That’s absurd.
But on the other hand, if men were having babies.. The answer would be Yes.
RYC: You’d be surprised how easy it is.
Yes, as long as that means that noone would ever get pregnant without their wanting.
Whoa! No! Apparently, sex is only for people who want to have children. Ever. Even if you are married, use condoms, birth control, etc. -David
No!
No. I’m planning on getting an abortion and sticking the fetus in the ex-boyfriend’s mailbox with a note saying “you owe me $50″…That is, if I randomly am pregnant…
@FuschiaMannequin - Really! Would you REALLY! Something about living in the garden of eden choked up on the heroin of no suffering seems very eerie to me… -David
Yes, but would that not remove “free will” from the equation? God wants our hearts and that can only come from having the ability to reject him or love him. This is of course takes the stance that God is against abortion.
@KechiNeko244 - I think that all children deserve a future. I used to be 110% against abortion, it is against my beliefs. I have a friend who was in a car wreck, and the choice came down to her loosing her life, or terminating her pregnancy and being here for her 3 other children. So, after that circumstance I am more understanding of the woman’s right to make that choice. As a teacher, and someone who loves children: I am still not in support of abortion but can understand others rights to make their own, informed, decision.
I’d stop sex outside of marriage before doing that.
No fucking way. Never.
@ELBOWpasta - If you agree that abortion is killing, then why do you condole the people that do it?
Yes.
Only if this wand could (at the same time) stop all rapes, incest, teenage pregnancies, and hand out free birth control pills to all women.
So your answer… NO.
@hannahtan528 - Because I’m as guilty as they are just in other areas. And it is always easy to take a stand from the outside looking in.
Watch out for the side effects
@hannahtan528 - Because we, as a society, don’t know how to function without it. We NEED it to keep the balance- at least until we find that damned magic wand and do away with the need for abortions to begin with. I also think that it’s a justified thing. It’s killing a baby, but that’s unfortunate. It’s far more unfortunate to find a full term baby with no hope of survival because the mother didn’t bother to care for it en utero, or care where it went after its birth. What’s left to do then but watch it die? At least eliminating the fetus when it has no chance of survival outside the womb minimizes the mother’s guilt, and keeps general concerns to a minimum.
Honestly- I don’t like the idea of abortions. But without abortions, we would be in a world of hurt that we are not ready to keep up with.
@ELBOWpasta - If the mothers aren’t going to take care of the babies in utero, then they shouldn’t be having babies. People should learn to use condoms and protections.
If that’s all the magic wand would do…well it’s a crappy wand. =P I would love it if the wand could rid the world of needing abortions – make people way more responsible…etc. But as it is, no.
No, I’m a big believer of pro choice.
If I could wave a magic wand and make every girl take their pill regularly, and every guy wrap their package before they had sex, would I? Yes…..
@hannahtan528 - “If the mothers aren’t going to take care of the babies in utero, then they shouldn’t be having babies.”
Exactly.
“People should learn to use condoms and protections.”
I agree, but that’s another argument all together.
nope. How many different versions of The Monkey’s Paw do we need before we realize that wishing is a bad idea?
absolutely not, and anyone that thinks otherwise has a fucking god complex.
yeah, its not our choice who gets pregant or not.
i would make no more unplanned pregnancies
Im against using abortion as a form of birth control. But no, what about the girls who get raped? I wouldnt want to have my rapists baby. :/
Xo
No.
no
@hannahtan528 - I could not agree more. But if any sin separates us from God without Christ then I’m no beter than they are. I just have been forgiven because of my belief and faith.
No.
I wish it were that easy. Murder is a crime!
@la_faerie_joyeuse - …and you must allow for exceptions such as mentally retarded or child moms-to-be
I don’t follow. Are you saying that a mentally retarded mother is not of the right mind to judge whether an abortion is appropraite?
@Allen_Oz - Ideally wouldn’t the fetus be in the best position to say whether or not it has a right to exist?
Without a fully developed brain, the fetus would not make a good conversaltionalist.
Though, I could have sworn, I heard the voices of a million dying sperms the last time I disposed of a condom.
I dont think there are people who gleefully get pregnant to have abortions. So with my wand, yes, only those intending to be pregnant and capable of raising the child in a happy loving home would ever become pregnant, and all these pregnancies would be carried to term with full health in tact for mother and child.
I would wave a wand to solve a great many things, that no one was hungry, or that wars would stop, and that drought, fire, and disease were no more.
This is living in a fantasy world, and we can try and hardest to make it reality, we we always fall very short of that. And a great deal of lifes hardships are beyond human control
So if the wand is merely to make abortion illegal, no I would not do that. I’m very certain it is a choice women and couples have made, that is hard, and agonizing, leaving emotional scarring, but nonetheless a decision that they felt was the better choice.
Not at all.
We would first have to wave a magic wand to get rid of rape, poverty, the variables that make pregnancy and childbirth painful, dangerous, and inconvenient. You know, the reasons why most women have abortions in the first place? And even after eliminating those as “excuses”, if a woman doesn’t want a carry a baby, she just plain shouldn’t have to.
This is hard. If my heart wasn’t in it, I don’t believe I would voluntarily go through it again.
If I had a magic wand, I’d wave it and wish for even MORE abortions.
no. if i were raped or not in a position to give the child a good life, or other circumstances like that, i would not want to bring a child into the world. if and when i do have a child, i wouldn’t ever want to give them up, so adoption would be out.
it’s a woman’s right to choose. no one should have the power to take that away.
How about waving a magic wand and making the ignorant people of the world impotent and sterile?Â
hell no!
@huginn - That’s exactly what I’m saying. Children and the severely mentally handicapped do not have the capacity to consent to sex in the first place. They certainly do not have the capacity to understand all the options when faced with a pregnancy, much less to make a fair decision among them.
@Travelmanphil – Wait, you are talking about faith and religion and your profile picture has you pointing a gun? You had better have some faith buddy because those things are far more dangerous than an abortion ever will be.
I’m not sure how much say in abortions should mental retardation or child-pregnancies be given. Both sides of the matter weigh pretty evenly for me.
I understand that a large part of this is situational– that the specifics of paritcular cases will offer different answers. Generally, I don’t know how to answer you.
I’d wave my magic wand and make people smarter, so that they would use condoms as birth control, not death.
Or maybe I’d make it so that there was no need for abortions — that all babies that were made were wanted.
But that is not what you asked, so in response to your question — no.
hellz to the no…..!
even though i am happily married, enjoy being a mom, welcome more children whether they be “ours” or whomevers, since my husband refer’s to me as the mother to the world… i certainly believe in the womans right to choose, and i would rather wave my magic wand and get rid of all the pro-lifers… lol. (except that includes my husband, and then i’d be lonely.)
Why not use the wand to prevent unwanted pregnancies?
Problem solved.
@huginn - LOL That method would solve all of our problems! How soon can we put this plan into action?
hell no
@hannahtan528 - I have a 4 month old girl myself. She’s the best thing that ever happened to me. However, this doesn’t mean that I am willing to decide what’s best for the billions of other women on the planet. To say something like would be completely ignorant and stupid.
no
@hannahtan528 - What if a woman had surgery and unbeknownst to her, she was pregnant at the time. All the medications (steriods, ethers, pain killers, antibiotics, etc) rendered that child profoundly mentally retarded, mangled, and damaged from the get-go, and probably would result in a still birth or worse yet, anencaphalopathy or something like that at birth. The mother decides to terminate the pregnancy because she wants the best for this poor young thing, and doesn’t want to prolong it’s suffering or create a dangerous situation for herself that might render her unable to care for her other children. What then?
@Direshark - Alleviating suffering, and the root of it (to truly prevent crime you have to prevent the want to commit crime) could never be a bad thing, could never be a drug.
Only stopping abortion would not solve all the problems that it should, but maybe it would be a start.
Like preventing murder wouldn’t stop anger or murderous desires- but without that outlet, maybe other ways of dealing with things like that would happen.
hmm…good question. Everyone has different opinions (bible-waving pro life-ists and indie film-watching pro choice-ists.) about this, and it’s not cool for one person to decide what’s the best solution (that’s what we call a dictatorship). It’s tricky. No one should have that kind of power.
It would depend heavily on how it was phrased, but then what would we all argue about? And I have read “The Monkey’s Paw,” and I don’t dare to think I could ever come up with the perfect wording, so I’d have to say no, hell no.
@rccalyn - @dreamingofotherthings - Wow, that’s hypocritical. Wouldn’t it be you waving the wand, not God? Or would God make you wave the wand? Or did God make abortions legal? Or did God put a desperate woman in the path of a doctor who was willing to help her? Man, if I believed in God, I’d have a hard time arguing with anything that ever happens and have to assume it was all God’s doing. At least, as an atheist, I can blame the people involved, and in many cases, the misguided system that deliberately misinformed them.
@la_faerie_joyeuse - Ooh, I more often than not agree with you, but you’re going to have to come up with a damn good definition for “child” and “mentally-retarded” on this one. It’s too much of a spectrum. Where do you draw the line?
@ficklemistress - That’s totally different, because it’s an accident. She didn’t know, that she was pregnant.
@FuschiaMannequin - I can’t envision a life without struggle as being worth living at all. A very famous philosopher, I believe his name was Hypocrates, spoke heavily on the duality of everything in life. Without malovolent intent, there can be no good. Without sadness, there can be no happiness. Without loss, there can be no joy in enjoying the precense of others. Without hate, there can be no love. I was using heroin as a metaphor for an unnatural forced bliss, an induced happiness that comes about regardless of the opposite spectrum. -David
@hannahtan528 - But it’s still an abortion if she has to terminate the pregnancy for this reason, is it not? And in your logic, you’re saying she should be forced to carry this poor thing to term, right?
Absolutely. Unless the mother’s life is in danger, there is no reason whatsoever to end a baby’s life.
yes i would, as it is anyone’s place to defend innocent life.
@Direshark - then why do we crave help? I’m talking about being productive. Problems not in the form of hatred, but of finding a better way. Why does love have to include hate? Love is the absence of hate. Hate cannot bring about love, it can only destroy it.
I’m young and naive and strongly believe what I’m saying. I don’t think suffering has to be a part of life to the extent that it is.
It’s not bliss is if it’s forced, I believe.
Yeah. Suffering has to happen. But if I could eliminate one facet of that suffering, lives would be saved and people would find other ways to destroy themselves.
@FuschiaMannequin - The duality works like this: Let’s talk about food. Let’s say you’ve never been hungry in your life. You are at the neutral baseline, the “I could eat food but I don’t really need/want to” segment. Food will simply never come as a joy to you, for you will have been desensitized to it, really. I think I misspoke when I said hate versus love. I think the opposite of love is actually apathy, since love points most heavily to importance. In that sense, the opposite of rage would also by apathy. You can’t have love if no one is ever apathetic, for it simply won’t be of interest that someone thinks you’re important.
This is really abstract, I hope I’m making sense. -David
no
@Direshark - It IS abstract, and therefore hard to argue. I wish people didn’t have to choose not to have children. I wish crimes didn’t make it so that women felt bad about having children. Basically, and most basically, that is what I mean. Wouldn’t it be nice if bad things didn’t happen to loved ones, recognizing that everyone should be loved?
It’s an ideal and impassible/impossible utopia. But it’s a nice idea, no?
I tend to start talking about things that don’t matter with the argument, I apologize.
I get your food analogy, it makes sense- but though joy may not be appreciated without despair, joy is still joy and still feels good. even getting bored with it doesn’t make sense because joy is not boring. love without apathy is still love- the contrast is important, but lack of contract can’t make love any less powerful. It could only make us less aware, though a lot more comfortable.
Personally, if I could make it so a person in my life never suffered, I would- though I’d probably make sure they encountered, and did their best to counter, suffering in others.
@ficklemistress - No, she doesn’t have to carry the baby to full term, if it’s a danger to her.
no. it would be irresponsible to take that much power over someone else’s life.
I thought this was interesting…i used to think abortions were terrible. but i think sometimes they are necessary.
I’d rather give one with a magic wand. But that’s just because I have morals.
What the fuck? If I had a magic wand, instead of saving fetuses, I’d kill off stupid people. WAY more productive.
@FuschiaMannequin - It’s a nice idea, yes…but wave a magic wand and make suffering go away? I couldn’t bring myself to do it. The idea that joy cannot exist without despair has scientific merit, you know…happy chemical endorphins in your brain being released because your situation is getting better. In the end, it is my opinion that everything, without suffering, would boil down to utter neutrality, with everyone really just not giving a crap about anything. Not suffering, no, but not living, either.
I really deviated. The question was about abortion. I think it’d be better if I could just wave a magic wand and change the way the human reproduces, in that a woman chooses mentally whether or not to have a child and it never happens without her like, signing a decree of “I want a child” before it occurs. -David
I would say… eradicate the need for abortion. But that is a terrifyingly open-ended mission.
I wish people wouldn’t have casual sex, but that doesn’t mean I can stop them… and outlawing something has never made it go away. Abortion is no different.
In the case of abortion, its legality may (may) lead to more casual attitudes regarding sex, but I can’t believe that most abortions are casual affairs for those who get them.
So, no, I guess.
No I wouldn’t but I would wave my wand & make it so that no one could get prego until they are ready both mentally & financially.
No, what an awful thing to do. That’s taking other people’s free will from them. And if you’re going to do that then you’d better wish away all the wire hangers in the world cause I garauntee you those would come back into popularity for taking care of such things if professional abortions were non-existent. I’m also a believer that “if there’s a will, there’s a way” so no amount of wishing or wording can eradicate it.
@Direshark - yeah, that’s a good idea. but I kinda think that’s what sex is for.
no
No
Hell no, that’s probably the worst thing we could do for children.
Conservatives care deeply about you, until you’re born. Once you’re out of the womb, fuck you. No food stamps, no well-funded foster care, no funding for better schools, no universal health care. They got you here, now you can just eat shit.
Being anti-abortion is being anti-woman.
Go on, berate me.
Only if every living human died. No more humans, no more (human) abortions.
Problem solved.
i would like to think i’d do it in a heartbeat, but realistically, who would care for this HUGE population of unwanted children? i KNOW they won’t all be adopted. now if that wand could guarantee them a wonderful life, hell, give me the wand now please.
Yes.
@Rosie1268 - i am having an abortion tomorrow. I’d LOVE for you to come by my site, read my latest post about it, and tell me that I’m a horrible murderer!!!
I’m not sure. But what if the baby’s father was a stranger? A rapist?
@FuschiaMannequin - If that’s what sex is for, no one’s reading the fine print. Lol. -David
No of course not.
And all those protesters that want to protect the unborn life should better involve with saving the already born life. There are so many unwanted children that do need support.
since a lotta sex happens in the heat of the moment, id use a magic wand to make something that would let ppl know if the sex they’re about to have will result in a baby or not
nope. I would never have an abortion myself, but for some people it may be the only option. So i think people should all still have the choice.
Yes I would in a heartbeat, When I witnessed the birth of my first child, as his head popped out and he was all covered in goo. The very first thing that went through my mind was that my wife and I have created this little precious life. I can’t emagine how anybody in there right mind could kill and inocent baby. They didn’t have a choose to be born. But because poeple want to break Gods law and have sex before marriage. the concequence sometimes is pregancy. So to excape poeple kill a child. I hope that God will deal very harshly with the doctors that do this.
Not unless all societal ills were also fixed and every baby had a loving home to go to and I’m thinking that’s a bit unlikely.
Yes.
Don’t think so. Even though killing life in a womb is unethical, some may still need it.
Yes, and I’d specify that in order get rid of abotions, I’d make people who didn’t want a baby permanently infertile… they can adopt if they change their mind >_>
I guess it would depend on how the change was to be affected. If waving the wand would prevent unwanted pregnancies from happening in the first place, then absolutely yes!
Depends on how all of this is done. Would there be no more abortions because the wand would eliminate rape and unwanted pregnancies? If so, I vote yes. Or would the wand just eliminate the option for abortion if an unwanted pregnancy occurs? If so, then hell no.
No, because I take upon the ELCA Lutheran view.
yes abortion is horrible. There are some cases like rape that abortion would be good. But i just dont like the fact that people abuse it. They have the mind set of ” oh dont worry lets just do it if anything goes wrong .. there is always abortion” and thats just wrong! i dont want to get into it because i know me gonna get mad about it … my cousin and I are always debating on it. I say … if you dont want kids keep your friggen legs crossed or at least protect yourself dammit!
Can I wave the wand to get MORE abortions? I think that should definitely be an option, for the sake of fairness.
No more abortions – Yes
No more rape – Yes
No more murder – Yes
Same category for all of ‘em.
if doing so meant that there was never any such thing as an unplanned pregnancy or a physical or mental disorder detected prior to birth, and everyone always had the economic means to take care of their children, and there was never any medical risk to the mother by having a child… then maybe yes I’d wave the magic wand unless there’s some condition I didn’t think of. But otherwise no. Only if you cover all cases can it be acceptable.
If I could wave my wand and make sure that no baby would ever be born with horrible deformities, no pregnancy would endanger the life of the mother, that rape and incest would never result in conception (or preferably, that rape and incest would never happen ever), that ever child born would be born into a family that wanted it and would be able to take care of it, then yes. I want a world in which we don’t need abortions; but in some cases, they are necessary.
Hell no. The people who need to make that choice are the mother, with consult from the father and her doctor.
To say yes is to believe that this is a black and white issue.
That couldn’t be farther from the truth. I recommend reading ficklemistress’ blog.
Yeah. I would, i think abortions are so wrong. what gives people a right to choose weither this baby should live or die?
No, I wouldn’t. I have done it once, will NEVER do it again. People, like Marilyn Monroe, who use it as a form of birth control, should not be allowed to do it. HOWEVER, the normal person who is going through whatever is making them make the decision to have an abortion, that is THEIR choice…not mine or yours or anyone else’s.
I guess, it would hard to have the choice and choose not to. I would prefer a wand that would eliminate the causes behind a women’s decision to get a abortion.
@hannahtan528 - I have a daughter that I love more than anything in the world. She is the best thing that ever happened to me. She’s almost 3 now. For the first year and a half of her life I had her in bad environment. I was in a bad relationship, we barely had enough food, I was nearly starving myself why trying to make sure she had enough to eat. A few months after her first birthday I was having sever abdominal pain and I could barely get up and around the house to play with her or take care of her. I was pregnant, and faced with a decision. I had already been trying to find away out of the situation and with already having one child I was having a hard time. I knew with two things would get worse, and I have a good chance of loosing both. I had an abortion. And I don’t regret it. I know that now my life and my daughter’s life is better now than it would have been. We are out of that bad situation now, and I thinking having to have the abortion just added to the motivation to change. I still feel some guilt sometimes, but if I had to go back and do it again I would. I don’t recommend it to be taken casually. It was the worst pain I had ever experienced in my life, physically and emotional. So I think anyone thinking about it should carefully consider it, but I can’t condone the condemnation of everyone that has been faced with the choice and taken the same option that I did.
If I could wave that magic wand and be certain that there would be no need for abortion, then yes. Until then, I support a woman’s right to choose. I would also wave that wand for every woman who tried to get pregnant unsuccessfully, and make it possible for them to do so.
If you can read the following, and tell this poor mother that what she is doing is wrong:
1) You are heartless 2) You are a hypocrite 3) I feel sorry for you My Abortion Story
No, and I think anyone wanting to do such a thing would be more selfish than the person having an abortion.
Most people just think abortions are for people who had too much unprotected, promiscuous sex, but that’s not always, not even frequently the case.
So no.
@EarthsAzureLight - I have read it and have said no such thing. (Although, I haven’t taken the time to leave a comment yet because I don’t just want to throw words out there.
Just because I would prefer to be rid of abortion doesn’t mean that I am not sensitive to the fact that there are numerous situations that cannot be accounted for in one pat answer.
I am not a judgmental freak who will condemn anyone at the first sign of an opposing viewpoint.
I would venture to say that I’m not heartless or a hypocrite and I hope you have no need to feel sorry for me.
@catman517 - Your point of view is so incredibly ignorant that it sickens me to the very depths of my stomach. Abortion isn’t always about destroying the life of a healthy baby with wonderful life prospects.
Think of babies being born addicted to narcotics and other illegal substances? Deformed and malformed children, children who can’t lead normal lives or even function on their own. People who are victims of rape or incest.
Also to say that people having premartial sex and getting pregnant (in not so many words) is asking for it, then you are truly the definition of ignorance.
@EilisAngelos - If you got rid of abortion, you would basically be condemning her family to a world of pain. You think that is a better alternative?
@KechiNeko244 - You would rather have her entire family suffer for who knows how long?
@EarthsAzureLight - No, and I never said that. If you read my entire reply, instead of making assumptions, you would have read that I said the following: “Don’t worry, I’m not about to tell this mother that I think she’s wrong and she’s going to burn in hell or whatever, because that would be a really horrible thing for me to do, I don’t believe she’s a bad person, and she’s got enough on her plate to deal with. I think she’s just trying to make the best choice for her and her family, and that’s hardly an evil thing to do.”
I just said that personally, I would not be able to do it because the guilt would overwhelm me. But hell, I can’t even kill a spider anymore without feeling bad.
@EarthsAzureLight - I did read it, and I can’t even begin to relate to what she is going through, and I can understand the decision she made. But even that story does not change my opinion that abortion is 100% wrong. Even if I knew my child was going to be extremely handicapped, I would not be able to abort him. The guilt would be too much for me. And that would be my own decision. Don’t worry, I’m not about to tell this mother that I think she’s wrong and she’s going to burn in hell or whatever, because that would be a really horrible thing for me to do, I don’t believe she’s a bad person, and she’s got enough on her plate to deal with. I think she’s just trying to make the best choice for her and her family, and that’s hardly an evil thing to do.
And please don’t make assumptions that I am a heartless hypocrite that deserves pity because I’m pro-life. I care about unborn children very much, but I also care about the mothers and their rights. I just think the right to terminate a life is not one that should be granted to us.
Honestly, I wouldn’t. I would keep abortion; I know all about how you’re losing a life, and you’re killing an innocent life that violates both religious and social morals in our world..
But think about the parents who possibly may be teenagers; and it could bring their whole lives down, down the drain. That’s the only use I see for Abortion; shoot me if there’s anything else. If it were up to me; i’d only have abortion for teenagers, and for those lucky parents, good luck.
@KechiNeko244 - I know you personally would not want to, but you also said, if you could, you would get rid of all abortions with a magic wand…
@EarthsAzureLight - Did you read half of what I wrote or even catch the tone in which it was written? As I have stated twice now, I cannot account for all circumstances. There are FAR too many variables in this question for me to actually make a pat decision.
And I said I would prefer to be rid of it. Perhaps I should clarify that I would love to abolish all need for it.
People often tell me that I’m among the most compassionate people they know. Please don’t think that my compassion would not extend to the mothers who have to make such a terrible choice.
You seem to be accusing me by implication of being judgmental but I think the road runs both ways here. Not everyone who is pro-life is closed-minded and ignorant.
@ChronicEmotion - I think a better option is something our government needs to be doing anyway: reworking the adoption system so children are placed with loving parents as quickly as possible. In the current adoption system, adoptive paretns (unless they’re filthy rich) must drown in red tape for months or even years before they can adopt a child. And the children must spend months or years in foster care! It is actually much easier to adopt internationally than it is to adopt within the country! Teenagers shouldn’t be allowed to abort simply because they were irrisponsible. That almost seems as though you’re enabling them so they don’t have to take responsibility for their actions. Therefore, we should make the adoption system better and have the schools teach more comprehensive sex and absitence education. Parents should also be more involved.
In a perfect world, anyway…
@EarthsAzureLight - Yes, and I would also rid the world of ineffective contraceptives, rape, and incest. I actually want to rid the need for abortion rather than just rid abortion itself.
@EilisAngelos - There is a huge difference between getting rid of abortion, and getting rid of the need for it, and originally, you did not make this distinction.
You can be pro-life and not be closed-minded and ignorant, but wishing to get rid of all abortion is both closed minded, and ignorant. What you personally choose to do is different from what you force on all others.
When you answer “Yes, I would get rid of all abortions.” That is extremely cold. If you say “I would get rid of all need for abortions.” Who wouldn’t want to do that?
@EarthsAzureLight - I did read that after I posted that comment. I am not insensitive to the fact that in some cases abortion is the right choice. In my opinion, many people are extreamly misinformed about the many sides of abortion. While people sit around and say ‘its right’ or ‘its wrong’ many never hear or give an explination for their opinion.
@KechiNeko244 - And that’s a distinction that needs to be made, there is a huge difference between eliminating abortion, and eliminating the need for it. Everyone would want to eliminate the need for it.
@AbiLeigh - Anyone that says all abortion is right or all abortion is wrong are both grossly misinformed, and ignorant. Which is my point: By saying you would get rid of all abortions, you would cause far more harm than good.
@EarthsAzureLight - I didn’t even say “Yes” outright. My exact words were:
“Probably.
I would be very careful about how I worded things when waving my little wand. If I had my way, no one would suffer loss of life. However, that’s not possible and…
…there are just too many variables here. “
I recognized that there are too many different situations to account for and I stated that I would have it so no one would suffer loss of life. If it’s a magic wand then I’m going to do what I can to make things beneficial for all, not just a one-sided change.
No because that would include miscarrages too, which are abortions. If the body miscarries a baby, then something must’ve been wrong with it.
@EarthsAzureLight - PS I don’t know who wouldn’t want to eliminate the need for it. Um, homicidal psychopaths? There would have to be something seriously wrong with them.
@EilisAngelos - There is a huge difference between getting rid of abortion, and getting rid of the need to have abortions. This is a distinction I want people to see (which you already had), but in answering a question that says:
“If you could wave a magic wand and make it so there would never be an abortion again”
You would have to come up with a way to get rid of hundreds if not thousands of ailments an unborn baby or mother could get in order to never have an abortion again without harm.
Everyone would get rid of abortions if they became unnecessary. Unfortunately, they are and will always be necessary. Unless you could also wave a magic wand to get rid of all illness as well.
Apologies for coming off brashly.
@EilisAngelos - It seems we agree, but your answer to the question confused me a lot.
@EarthsAzureLight - Understandable. I was tired and just posted a quick response. I should have known that a question like this one would spark debate. I hate debate. Discussion is much better.
I hope I didn’t come across as overly defensive. Because I am pro-life and a Christian I have been far too often judged by others to be ignorant and unintelligent. Anyone who knows me personally could refute this unequivocally. However, most who are judging me do not stick around long enough to make that observation. It can get frustrating. *sigh* I’m sure you understand.
The gun is not evil only the person in how it is used. I can use the same logic with a picture of you driving a car. It is how you use it and what you do with. I’m not perfect, just the opposite. I’m not to judge either, each person has to come to his or her faith own their own.
Yes. And then again.. A resounding NO.
Ectopic pregnancies excluded, Yes! I would stop doctors and “adult” women from tearing and sucking tiny little babies from their mothers wombs, piece by bloody piece of flesh being torn and taken, and then tossed in the trash… I would stop that.
And to “fullmetalbunny” — kudos & agreeance. I, too, would stop spontaneous abortions [miscarriages] if given a magic wand.
Absolutely Not…This type of question is too broad for an issue that has so many variables. Are some abortions are used too often? Yes. But there are those who do don’t misuse tat choice. Different people feel differently about it and for a magic wand to end abortion all together..not practical in my opinion.
If I could wave a magic wand and make it so that abortions were no longer needed (meaning every child is a wanted, well-cared for child) then yes.
hell yes I would.
Not a chance in hell. And if there were a magic wand that someone could access, I’d do my best to destroy such a thing before another could use it.
It is my opinion that everyone deserves the chance to make a choice on whether to remain pregnant or not, and for one person to make a blanket decision for all to get rid of all abortions is pretty arrogant and wrong. And simply making it so “no one could have one again” doesn’t mean they’d stop wanting them. How many mothers would give birth to children they resent and don’t want, who then abandon the child in front of fire houses, police stations, Wendy’s bathrooms, and truck stops before more people realize that just because one *can* have children doesn’t mean they should? How many babies does Big Government have to raise before people will own up and say that, just because they don’t like abortions, they’re not out there adopting any Foster Care children (you know, “Wards of the State”) who they so vocally wanted to live?
@EarthsAzureLight - She’s not having an abortion, because she didn’t know that she was pregnant and if she did, she wouldn’t of taken all those meds. She did everything she could, to save Lilly, so she didn’t take much meds. That says a lot.
I don’t know. I would highly encourage birth control. I always wonder why our country has such a high abortion rate & such a rate of teenage pregnancies. Other countries have sex at a similar age as American’s and they don’t have these problems.
@EarthsAzureLight - I didnt say it was wrong you idiot. I dont care either way.. She and anybody else can do what ever the hell they want. With whomever they want. I said that people should have to use protection and not have any babies if they are going to have sex. I DONT CARRRRE . Now I give you a reason to call me heartless for I dont care if somebody drops dead.. And then you can call me a hypocrite for ..what usually being a nice person but not giving a rats ass about what you just said to me?…
@SpiritualBattlefield - I think I misclicked your name, sorry. I think I replied to a good 25 people. T_T
What’s that? Someone invented a magic “free birth control for all” wand?
@EarthsAzureLight - LOL! …I just went off on you for nothing then?!?!? Haha Wow, I need to get out some.
@hannahtan528 - What do you mean? She said she is having an abortion….
@DarkLordPenguin - Probably the same place we would draw the line for any other consent. Generally, it’s 18 in this society. I think someone with the mental capacity of a 16-year-old has the capacity to consent to things.
No. While I’m against abortion as a means of birth control, I just couldn’t do that. It’s all so complicated.
I’m pro-choice, so I would say no. People who are ready to sleep together should be ready to suffer said consequences, but sadly, thats often not the case. So no.
@EarthsAzureLight - Now, now, there, no need to call names. Bring substance, instead of childish name-calling, to the table of adult debate, and then we can discuss. I don’t think you actually read what I said. I didn’t say anything about abortion being wrong. I don’t think that it is heartless by any stretch to wish that women would not be victims or rape or incest, or even just the frightening circumstance of being pregnant unexpectedly. I mean good grief, I got pregnant on PURPOSE and was still terrified when I realized it! I think I am just a middle-grounder. I suppose most pro-lifers pray that women and girls will have a change of heart, and decide not to get an abortion. Instead, what I pray for is that women and girls are safe from becoming pregnant against their wishes altogether. I believe that with the right education and access to birth control, many abortions would never happen. A hypocrite? I think not. I think that there’s many people who consider themselves pro-choice that want women to have the choice, but still wish that women didn’t have to face that choice altogether. For the record, I AM pro-life, but in a way that is accepting of reality, and I love my fellow women and wish that all of them could be protected in such a way that when they do become pregnant, it would be in their own control, and to their great joy, instead of causing fear or unhappiness.
no. it’s the mother’s choice, not mine.
@j_flo_in_TX - It’s impossible to eliminate the need for abortion without also eliminate all the conditions that may require it (based on whatever criteria comes up, which is too many to make a list of, which is my point). That waving a wand to get rid of the need of all abortions is something everyone would want. But at the heart of the question is if you could make it so no one would get an abortion. I think the pre-conditions you put on your statement make the question far easier to answer, in that you are saying if you could get rid of all the reasons people have abortions you would – as would any non-sociopathic or malevolent human being.
I see a huge differentiation between the form of the questions “I would get rid of all abortions.” and “I would get rid of all need for abortions.” In that the question Dan asks more represents the former than the latter.
Well, Dan is rather sneaky in that he words questions in such a way that everyone can read it however they want to, and we each see something different because we come at it with our own life experience behind us. Your response makes me see that we don’t actually disagree (if we’re non-sociopathic human beings, and I suspect we are). I realize now that I didn’t really answer the question that Dan ASKED, but rather just made a statement about what I wished for instead of what he offered. Two different magic wands, if you will.
I believe abortion is murder. I believe that as an American citizen I have the responsibility to vote my morals, and to vote for legislators who will support those morals. because that’s how our nation works – the majority determines what is legal and what is not by voting for the people that support their positions and write the laws.
I would not, however, by way of some sort of magical monarchy, declare abortion at an end. because that it what it would be – me as queen imposing my individual self on the rest of my nation, and on the rest of the world for that matter (as the question is worded).
no way
@EarthsAzureLight - God will forgive her, because she didn’t do it intentionally.
There are far too many situational and personal variables for one single person to decide for everyone.
Therefore, absolutely not.
I mean hell yeah, the best solution (in my opinion) would be SpiritualBattlefield‘s invisible condom.
But I guess that’s about as probable as the magic wand idea?
@EarthsAzureLight - I am judging no one; that is God’s place, and heaven forbid I tell Him what to do. I am simply communicating my personal belief that it is a taking of a life and therefore wrong. I did not come here looking for a dispute. Agree to disagree?
I don’t think that’s a decision one person should make
If it meant that every baby born would be completely 100% healthy, every mother and father would be competent parents, and that each and every baby born would be born wanted and loved, then YES.
@hannahtan528 - Didn’t do what intentionally? And how does God forgiving her have to do with it being an abortion or not?
@purifyingpurge - I think you may be on the wrong site, then.
What would you have this woman do then? Submit her family to far more grief and pain?
NO.
also, i would never want to make EVERYONE get abortions.
if i could wave a magic wand and make everyone see that The Choice can be good or bad, i`d do it.
Yes I would.
No, I would not.
Wait! Wait! Let me explain myself. I won the National Right-To-Life Speech competition this year, held in Washington DC. My speech dealt with this very question.
But foremost, I am against abortion – full blown – even if it means the death of the mother, the child should not die, and the parent has no right to kill it. However, I have no right to make the parent do what I want him to do, even if it is to do the right thing. I respect the unborn because it is human. Thus, I will also respect the born.
There’s is this little thing called Personal-Responsibility – something that every parent must have when confronted with a choice. The lack thereof leads to the foolish choice of killing a child, a choice that should not be theirs. However, since it is beyond my power to force them, I will do all in my power to change them. To give them discretion and Personal-Responsibility. It is not within my power to shake a magic wand and make all wrongs rights, even if I was capable of doing so. Why? Because I have Personal-responsibility, and that I can give to those in need of it.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A million times yes!!!!
If i had a magic wand I’d make it where women only produced one egg a year.
if they wanted to have a baby they could.
or they could make an omelet.
Why, why, why do people say it’s okay in cases of rape? Why does that child have any less right to live than anyone else?
Hmm, what else can the wand do? ha ha
No. But I would make it to where people who don’t want babies can’t have babies. And those of us who want babies, the ability to actually have them.
This idea flies in the face of Free Will.
@EilisAngelos - I completely agree with your reply to the commenter who replied to us both. Just saying.
I would not make that wish because if I did, then that would take my life away, my son’s life, and my step children’s. My mom had an abortion when she was a teen and so did my hubby’s ex wife. If my mom had that child, then I would not be here hence neither would my son. If the ex did not have her abortion, then my oldest would never have been conceived.
Also, would all abortions including spontanious abortions (miscarrage)
This world is world has too many underage mothers, children that are in foster care and so on. If you want to get the abortion rate down, Start talking to your children and emphasize the importance of waiting to have sex till they are married or in a commited relationship. And let them know that if they can not wait that long, they can come talk to you and you can help them at least with birthcontrol or to talk it out so they may think that they can wait a little longer. With this ope communication, my children know they can trust us to help them if they make a mistake.
@Marlin_Spike - I disagree with what you say about even if the parent dies…If the parent dies, then other life is gone. If the mother had to choose her life over her childs, if one had to live, I am sure she would give her child life. But if the child was going to die anyways, and the mother’s life was at risk (such as an ectopic pregnancy) then , from experience, she chooses abortion in order to have children in the future. Every person has a different reson for having abortions. If the person is using it as a form of birth control, then by all means sterilize the person or put her on a birth control.
Man has free will. No matter how much I disagree with what someone may choose, I cannot force the answer like that.
Let’s wave a wand and pray that biology always worked out mathematically; so pregnancies didn’t complicate lives. That would be a more productive thing to do if I had a magic want.
yes. It is not our place to destroy the innocent. It only brings a curse on us.
@EarthsAzureLight - I left a comment on her blog about it concerning my further stance on this, if you so desire to read that.
No. How can one individual make such a selfish decision.
absolutely not.
@lotta_valdez - that response totally made my day. thank you.
Yes Yes Yes Yes!!!! Abortion is a terrible thing to have happening. People are getting more and more callous about it as time goes on. Teens are beginning to say that they want to be able to kill the kid if they decide to.
Babies are not made to be killed before or after birth.Abortion to save the life of the mother is not an issue hardly ever. It’s an excuse.
There also are many many women who have been pressured into one or more abortions because it is legal so it must be an ok decision. They live with a sorrow that they rarely talk about.
Being willing to give your life for your child used to be an honorable quality women and men sought to honor.
Some abortions are medically necessary to preserve the life of the mother, so no.
@Mieko_Ali - Thank you very much for correcting me. I completely agree, if the circumstances were an Ectopic pregnancy, but I must disagree on birth control. I believe, as said before, in personal-responsibility. If she does not want a baby, she shouldn’t have sex. But life should not be denied by using birth-control, or rejected by an abortion but in the case of an Ectopic.
@EarthsAzureLight - Uh, right. And sticking a fork in an unborn baby’s head is the very definition of kindness and compassion, right? Wrong. From what basis do you arbitrate your values of right and wrong anyways? Isn’t everything relative with you non-believers?
The whole essence of being pro-life is to care for all innocent human life- including the entire family- mother, father, children, and all the lives that their lives touch. If you’d hazard a visit to any crisis pregnancy center you’d find that to be true in a jiffy.
I’m not here to judge anyone- actually it is YOU who has been arbitrating judgment over us based on our comments- as if desiring an end to a morbid practice is somehow wrong. Thought for the day: when you point a finger at someone else, you’re pointing 4 back at yourself.
@EarthsAzureLight - personally i do not object to individuals aborting a fetus due to extraneous circumstances. i am speaking of abortions where it is just a matter of convenience. if you take out the consequences of your action then you are more likely to repeat it. there are people who are trying to have 12 year olds abort a fetus without the consent of the parent. there are people like our messianic presidential candidate who says that abortion at anytime during pregnancy is not wrong. he even introduced a bill that allows killing of the “aborted” baby after being delivered alive.he states that his daughters should not be punished for their mistakes. that is the abortion that i’m speaking of. i have no qualms about having an abortion because of the circumstances that the mentioned person has. what you are stating is the same as you shouldn’t own a gun because it kills. a gun used right saves lives too. it all depends on circumstances. i can be pro-life and yet be for abortion. i can be christian and yet be pro-other religion. just because i stand on this side of the line does not mean i have built a wall. my stance on many of the issues is not set in stone. but enough of that. i wish the best of the best for her and her family.
@PreciousOnyx - I am judging you. Entirely and admittedly. Because if you truly believe all abortion is an evil practice, you yourself are a somewhat malevolent person. Especially knowing complicated situations exist.
A woman has brain cancer and gets pregnant accidentally while using protection, she now has three options:
1) Stop her chemotherapy to try to deliver the baby, this will leave her a) Near death at delivery b) Dead before delivery, ending her life and the baby’s life 2) Continue with chemotherapy and attempt to deliver the baby. This will likely kill the baby or deform it to the point of a vegetative state or still birth. 3) Abort the baby and continue with her chemotherapy
What would you tell her to do?
If she doesn’t abort the baby either the baby or her or both will die and be in pain for the rest of their lives.
I would much rather, as you said, “sticking a fork in an unborn baby’s head” to end it’s misery there before the woman or the baby has to endure far greater pains than death, for months, or years. And likely will die anyway after the pain.
No, no I say to you ma’am. If you are right, I’d rather be wrong.
@supsoo - I’m not saying there is anything wrong with being pro-life, but it is wrong forcing this belief on others where it is the best available option. Such as in the case I cited.
It isn’t a black and white issue, which is why you can’t say it’d be good to get rid of all abortions, just as I haven’t said all abortion isn’t good.
No. There are different reasons that people get abortions and while everyone seems to view abortions as being irresponsible with your promiscuity or whatever, it’s not always the case.
*DING!* Consider the wand waved!
@rccalyn - Does God deciding when a person should die apply to people who are murdered? How about the Holocaust; was that God’s decision? Let’s not use God as a way to escape resposibility, okay?
@EarthsAzureLight - Well at least you’re honest, I’ll give you that much.
In that woman’s case, I’d look into holistic methods of healing in the first place. The drugs we use in “curing cancer” are basically remixed versions of drugs we use in chemical warfare. They’re not any better for you than the cancer itself. Look at the Amish. They don’t use modern medicine to cure their ills but they’re among the healtiest people in the nation. They’re not immune to cancer or heart problems along with the rest of us, but their methods of natural medicine do a whole heck of a lot better than our tonics we call drugs. Best of all, they get to keep their babies.
Another issue you immediately ruled out (I’m not surprised) is supernatural intervention. God (whether you believe in Him or not) does answer prayers and people who should otherwise be dead are alive and among us today because God intervened when no doctor could. You can deny that all you want but I don’t think it’ll do your case any good. I acknowledge that not every woman believes in God- but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work to try.
I acknowledge that there are emergencies where saving the mother’s life could put the unborn child’s life at risk- but NEVER should the intent of the doctors be to kill the unborn child. The focus should be solely on saving the mother’s life- if the baby dies in the process that’s understandable. And I’m not so moronic as to recognize that there’s not much we can do medically for eptopic pregnancies at present. I would submit that medical research funding go to finding a viable solution other than aborting the baby. We’re already in the age of test tube babies- perhaps there’d be a way to transfer the baby- or even replant the baby in the uterus. Have we tried- do we know absolutely for sure that there’s no way to save an eptopic- or do we just use that as a crutch to keep PP open? And in the absolutely necessary cases for ending the child’s life- how about a little compassion for the poor child, huh? How would you like to be torn to pieces with a wrench without a little dulling of the pain? Abortion hurts! Put the poor child to sleep before reinventing every horror movie ever produced- after all the child is innocent, why should he or she be made to suffer unnecessarily? But I guess as long as mom’s happy that’s all that matters with you, eh?
@PreciousOnyx - This religious zealotry doesn’t justify a response other than this sentence.
sometimes we forget that life is a miracle. the mother is always going to have a fifty fifty percent chance of living when she is giving birth. abortion lessens its value, its preciousness and we all know that. the baby should actually have more right to his/her life than the mother does, right?
sorry, i’d rather wish for ignorance to disappear cause that alone could probably save other lives from being aborted.
more than 90% of abortions done is for convenience… let’s do our research please.
@EarthsAzureLight - NO, you’re problem with my comment is that I refused to be boxed in to your three scenarios and accept them as the only reality when in fact they are not. Just because YOU refuse to accept supernatural intervention doesn’t mean it’s not an option. It’s becoming more and more common among surgeons and doctors to pray with their patients before proceedures begin- and I don’t think it’s coincidential. Besides every time you speak you presume a theistic world view- if you say you’re an atheist- that statement only has meaning in a world and language that preconceives the concept there is a god. Language- even the language of the universe which is comprehensible to us in the form of mathematics- attests to the idea of an intelligence beyond the universe itself- just food for thought.
And I hardly call turning to holistic healing religious zealotry- everyone used holistic measures until modern medicine came along and 90% of the world still uses it- and apparently some of it works because they still prefer it among groups that use it today.I’m not denying the benefits of some modern medicine but the pharmeceudical (sp?) industry has overrun the medical practice and instead of doctors working for ways to heal our problems they’re largely handing us pills to cover up the symptoms. And why wouldn’t it work- nature is grandly supplied with its own remedies to nearly every problem it faces. Our solution to most health issues is not in popping pills but to put the nutrients and vitamins our bodies need in order to heal the problem ourselves- Teresa Tapps founder of T-Tapps (look up her website) is a great example of this- when she was a medical student she found a cancerous lump in her armpit. Instead of jumping to radiation and whathaveyou she chose instead to watch how her daily habits affected its size and her health. She found that taking in alot of sugar and lack of sleep caused the lump to grow in comparison with days where she ate proper amounts of veggies and healthy foods and got her sleep and some exercise. She’s now cancer free and has trained professional models and everyday folk how to keep in shape and lose inches and even reverse or control type II Diabetes with her exercise workouts. Holistic medicine does work and in the case of this lady with the brain tumor it would’ve allowed her to keep her baby without compromising her health.
Abortion is a practice with a 100% mortality rate- I don’t look at it as a solution to our problems no matter what light you cast it in. There is almost always another alternative that will work if the mother is willing to consider it- especially since abortion isn’t even healthy for the mother- it’s associated with all sorts of problems such as increased liklihood of reproductive problems in the future. No, not every woman experiences problems but to deny that they exist at all is unfair to any woman considering abortion. It’s like not warning people of the risk of lung cancer from smoking- not all smokers get lung cancer but there is a direct link.
Helllll no.
Yes.
No.
I feel bad for the fetus but I’m kinda pro-choice, so no.
Comments (301)
No.
Heck yeah.
fuck no
Probably.
Yes.
I would but I would have to word it carefully……….
@EilisAngelos - Whoa, first! =:D
no
@fullmetalbunny - I know! 0.0 Completely unexpected one there, I must admit.
No.
@EilisAngelos - bravo!
now, as to the question….
Mmm…no.
@WomanOfLight - Amen to that.
And to you, Dan… YES.
Mmmnope.
Something about living in the garden of eden choked up on the heroin of no suffering seems very eerie to me…
-David
Without hesitation….
@Travelmanphil - What?
No.
@ELBOWpasta - If the mothers aren’t going to take care of the babies in utero, then they shouldn’t be having babies. People should learn to use condoms and protections.
If that’s all the magic wand would do…well it’s a crappy wand. =P
I would love it if the wand could rid the world of needing abortions – make people way more responsible…etc.
Yes. because all murdering is wrong.
@la_faerie_joyeuse - I’ll have to think on this.
It would depend heavily on how it was phrased, but then what
would we all argue about? And I have read “The Monkey’s Paw,” and I
don’t dare to think I could ever come up with the perfect wording, so
I’d have to say no, hell no.
@rccalyn -
@dreamingofotherthings -
Wow,
that’s hypocritical. Wouldn’t it be you waving the wand, not God?
Or would God make you wave the wand? Or did God make abortions legal?
Or did God put a desperate woman in the path of a doctor who was
willing to help her? Man, if I believed in God, I’d have a hard time
arguing with anything that ever happens and have to assume it was all
God’s doing. At least, as an atheist, I can blame the people involved, and in many cases, the misguided system that deliberately misinformed them.
@lesslikemath - my point exactly.
@la_faerie_joyeuse - Ooh,
I more often than not agree with you, but you’re going to have to come
up with a damn good definition for “child” and “mentally-retarded” on
this one. It’s too much of a spectrum. Where do you draw the line?
@ficklemistress - That’s totally different, because it’s an accident. She didn’t know, that she was pregnant.
@ELBOWpasta - It’s good, that we agree in things.
@Direshark -
then why do we crave help?
-David
no
@Direshark -
It IS abstract, and therefore hard to argue.
@Direshark - yeah, that’s a good idea.
but I kinda think that’s what sex is for.
no
No
Hell no, that’s probably the worst thing we could do for children.
There are so many unwanted children that do need support.
since a lotta sex happens in the heat of the moment, id use a magic wand to make something that would let ppl know if the sex they’re about to have will result in a baby or not
@TommyCrowwithWhiteFeathers - I agree.
No.
@huginn - well then…you should be gone now!
Yes, and I’d specify that in order get rid of abotions, I’d make people who didn’t want a baby permanently infertile… they can adopt if they change their mind >_>
No. To each their own.
@GrapiesWordsofWisdom - I’m saving best for last, of course.
I use my magic wand to start my jalopy.
Yah, I probably would.
@EilisAngelos - @AbiLeigh - @Dare2BDiferentt - @SpiritualBattlefield - @fullmetalbunny - @Punky13dq - @rccalyn - @VersaGratis - @hannahtan528 - @j_flo_in_TX - @supsoo - @dreamingofotherthings - @ELBOWpasta - @hannahtan528 - @KechiNeko244 - @PreciousOnyx - @purifyingpurge - @hannahtan528 - @KechiNeko244 -
If you can read the following, and tell this poor mother that what she is doing is wrong:
1) You are heartless
2) You are a hypocrite
3) I feel sorry for you
My Abortion Story
Plain and simple,……..YES, I would.
@KechiNeko244 - I agree with you completely.
“Probably.
I
would be very careful about how I worded things when waving my little
wand. If I had my way, no one would suffer loss of life. However,
that’s not possible and…
…there are just too many variables here.
@EilisAngelos - Yep, no harm done.
And then you can call me a hypocrite for ..what usually being a nice person but not giving a rats ass about what you just said to me?…
@SpiritualBattlefield - I think I misclicked your name, sorry. I think I replied to a good 25 people. T_T
What’s that? Someone invented a magic “free birth control for all” wand?
@EarthsAzureLight - LOL! …I just went off on you for nothing then?!?!? Haha Wow, I need to get out some.
@hannahtan528 - What do you mean? She said she is having an abortion….
@SpiritualBattlefield - no harm no foul.
..or just plain out get some.. haha
@EarthsAzureLight - In my eyes, it’s not an abortion.
@hannahtan528 - ? Then what do you call it? She is killing the growing fetus inside her. That’s what an abortion is.
@lotta_valdez - George Carlin was awesome.
@huginn - YOU GO!
There are far too many situational and personal variables for one single person to decide for everyone.
Therefore, absolutely not.
I mean hell yeah, the best solution (in my opinion) would be SpiritualBattlefield‘s invisible condom.
But I guess that’s about as probable as the magic wand idea
?
@VersaGratis - Thank you!
Haha that’s funny!
Noooo.
@EarthsAzureLight - ZOMG PLZ NOE!
1) Stop her chemotherapy to try to deliver the baby, this will leave her
a) Near death at delivery
b) Dead before delivery, ending her life and the baby’s life
2) Continue with chemotherapy and attempt to deliver the baby.
