Miley Cyrus as a Condom Spokesgirl?
Lifestyles Condoms is saying they want Miley Cyrus to be a spokesgirl for them.
The company has said that they offered her $1 million to act as a spokesgirl for them. They said “We believe
Miley is both influential and
A rep of Miley Cyrus said they had never received an offer. Here is the link: Link
relatable to this afflicted set — and is the obvious choice to get the
message of safe sex out to teens across America.”On the one hand, she would influence a lot of young people. On the other hand, she is only 15 years old.
Do you think Miley Cyrus is too young to be a spokesperson for a Lifestyles Condoms?
Comments (159)
yes.
YES. WAY TOO YOUNG!! ahhh that’s nuts.
but it would be hilarious if she did accept / if its true..
I don’t give a shit.
Yes she is way too young, because not only does her audience basically consist of (or is at least aimed at) kids in elementary school to middle school range… she has promised to remain a virgin until marriage. Why does she need condoms? Mhm…
Yes, I do.
too young plus she shouldnt do it. I think she should leave SEX out of her name.
Lol, they should definitely have her as a spokesperson. They might actually decrease teen pregnancies… or 15 year olds everywhere will believe that it’s ok to have sex, and there will be a slew of statutory rape charges. Either way, it would be interesting.
If she wants to. Then hell, let her. It’s her career choice.
-CrazyKey123
Yes, she is too young! It would be better if she were a spokesperson for abstinence and telling kids to be responsible about their bodies.
What exactly does her father think about this?
Oh yes the uproar would be very good for lifestyle condoms. Is she to young? Well duh, that is why they are doing this. Shock value and free publicity. They really don’t think she would accept the offer. Serious offers are not made through the press.
Yes. I think it’ll just make some teens think that it’s okay to have sex, just as long as they use a condom. Even with one, teens shouldn’t be having sex. Nor do we need a TEEN telling us to use one.
shes too young..
I think it would get the message across about safe sex, while at the same time, will tarnish Ms. Cyrus’ already shotty image.
Oh well, I guess I could go either way on the topic.
I think it sends the wrong message.
I don’t think she is too young to do an ad for abstinance or safe sex… but to actually be sponsered by a condom company… maybe.. Just because we want to THINK kids don’t do it before they are eighteen… Well clearly that isn’t true…
What about Britney Spears little sister? It’s OBVIOUS she’s been there. lol She could do something like “Coulda, shoulda, woulda…” as their campaign slogan.
That would be incredible.
@Zooish - LOL!!!!
Heck no she isnt too young! Kids are having sex at ..what ..?… 6?!?! okay..maybe 9. But still she is a condom herself. I dont like the trickster.
@SomeCallMeAce - Yeah, I think that she is still trying to fix that daddy/daughter perv team photo shoot dont you?
Yeah, and they’re also sending out a message to teens that it’s OK to have sex.
This is just wrong.
What does her dad think about it? Man, I wouldn’t have the nerve to even consider that with my parents over my shoulders. Ew.
I said this before, I think she’ll be like a Britney Spears.
YES. . .And Disney would drop her like a hot potato. It’s probably a rumor.
Get the little Spears to do it instead. Then we’ll know how important condoms are.
I don’t think at any age she should be a condom spokesman. That’s just embarrassing
Yeah, let Jamie Lynn Spears handle that.
but i thought she was promoting abstinence and waitig for marriage?
that’s what i saw on a tv interview and if she’s trying to advocate saving it for marriage
then she wouldn’t be a good spokesperson for condoms.
but that wasn’t the question, huh…
i think 15 is too young,
but maybe it’s because we’re an older generation.
kids are having sex much younger now,
so maybe 15 yrs old really isnt too young,
considering today’s society.
Just remember……….
DON’T BE SILLY, WRAP YOUR WILLY………
@PretendPrincess - Oh, yeah; now YOU have the right idea.
frankly, i’m disgusted this has even come up at all.
i think it would be a mistake. as others have said, it may send the wrong message to teens (that sex is ok at their age) but then i could also argue that teaching safe sex doesn’t necessarily encourage teens to have it… it’s the same situation as whether or not to provide condom vending machines (or the availability of condoms) in high schools… at least we’re not turning a blind eye to the fact that teens are in fact having sex. now that i think about it, it may not be such a terrible idea. who knows. it could go either way.
Yes, but there’s a market for it, there are plenty of young sluts out there
She is way too young and if her parents allowed her to do ads for condoms then I would lose all respect for them.
yes! if she does this, she’ll completely ruin what little good reputation she still has.
..Face it … sex is in, baby.
@RdKingClassic03 - LOL!! Then she sings… “YOU GET THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS” …
That would have the same effect as having Angelina Jolie as the spokesperson.
Do you think Miley Cyrus is too young for me to be more than willing to have sex with her?
For some reason, I think she’d be more than perfect for it.
By the way, my tab shortened the title to “Miley Cyrus as a Condom…” I find that amusing.
@cre13 - What were you doing when you were 15? I know what I WANTED to be doing and all my best friends WERE doing with bad boys who treated them poorly. (cause I was the nice guy who was the best friend to the hot girls but really wanted to sleep with all of them.)
And yes, she is too young. Think of all the dirty old men who will be emboldened to declare their sick love of jailbait!
Of course she is too young but in today’s society we almost need a young spokesperson for condoms. I am not saying we should try to get more teenagers to be having sex, but the ones that are going to be having sex need to know that they should be being safe about it. I think that a teen pop star shouldn’t be advertising safe sex, she should be telling them to wait for sex. Her major fan base is too young to be having sex. They don’t need to think that Miley Cyrus is telling them it is i ok to have sex as long as they use condoms.
Kids can have sex and get pregnant/STDs as soon as they hit puberty, which can be as early as 8 or 9. Whether or not Miley Cyrus has sex herself, she can positively influence millions of kids. Safe sex is better than unprotected sex.
@GhostBenjimon - At 15 I certainly wasn’t having sex! I’m only 27 now but things have changed since I was that age… more and more kids are having sex younger and younger. and that’s really awful but why not teach them about prevention while they are still impressionable… some folks say that is giving them ideas but i think it’s just being smart. those kids are thinking about sex that young… let’s give them a role model to look up to that isn’t being sexually active!
Ok um… what’s the legal age where she comes from? In Ohio the age of consent is 18 so…
Yeah, 15 is too young. I know that there are kids having sex at a much younger age even younger than 15, but that doesn’t mean they need a 15 year old girl to promote condoms. How about a young looking 18 year old?
No, I feel it would be a good thing to have someone teens can relate to advertise condoms– it’s how they advertise everything else– but it would be detrimental to her image.
Maybe in a few years when she goes the way of all disney stars and gets a few STDs…
Yes
@angi1972 - omg that is great
Waaay too young!
@steph843 - Leave it you Steph to simply state the truth
Her rep has denied the offer, but whether Lifestyles made it or not- or would have paid it or not – they get the publicity.
@RdKingClassic03 - what a fine use of a classic English slang word. I’m very fond of it. The word that is, not the willy.
I’m beginning to believe that Miley Cyrus is under the belief that any publicity is good publicity. I wouldn’t put this past her, but I hope she turns it down. She’s much too young and I believe that will send out the wrong message to a crowd that’s too young to fully understand the consequences of their actions.
way too young!!!
Well she might be too young, but truth is kids her age and younger are having sex. Not everyone wants to practice abstinence, maybe they will see Miley is using protection and so should they.
@cre13 - I was 17 when I had sex. 15 was the first blowjob. Maybe it depends on the area, this was Chicago, and I am 32. Things have not changed that much, but things can differ greatly from a small town to a urban area. And I was horny pretty much all day every day ever since sixth grade. Except when playing video games, and sometimes even then.
To this very day.
She isn’t legally old enough to buy condoms. I don’t think endorsing them would make much sense…
I agree with just about most of you. She is too young. Jamie Lynn Spears would be good though.
I think kids will have unprotected sex at 15 even if miley cyrus tell them not to.
the only thing that will happen is that people will talk more shit about her
Yes, I think Miley is too young… I am beginning to think her dad is her pimp, but that is just me.
So, how is the road trip plans coming along? Don’t forget about your friends in East Texas.
Hugs, Tricia
@fullmetalbunny - Yeah, but she can get them free at any local clinic ..lol
@gsby12004 - Exactly.
The article says she won’t have sex until she is married. But advertising condoms is telling viewers two things: A) have sex and B) be safe. B is pretty cool, but you can’t have B without A. So… someone’s logic is flawed. I’m gonna place my bets on both. Both sides of the issue are being stupid.
Yes.
@KechiNeko244 -
I wholeheartedly agree!
@JEuCE - well i’m only 17 and i think it is wrong. I plan to be a virgin till marriage so it isn’t your generation it is just the fact that… well kids are getting hornier. So i apologize for my generation.
that is way to young!
@GhostBenjimon - 17 here, too. i’m in fairly rural area and it’s bad. i actually run a non-profit geared towards helping at-risk youth and so i know all about just how bad it is here… i’m talking pregnant middle school kids!
i think your horny situation is normal.
@rwright1023 - congratulations on your decision to wait. good luck with that!
@cre13 - That’s actually the most heartening thing I have heard all day, maybe all week, maybe all month.
@saxy_grrl - well if you look at it as “IF you have sex, be safe” then it’s a little different. Would you rather society tell kids to NOT have sex at all (which in essence that is what a lot of school systems and parents are doing)?? I mean, the kids are have sex people! And they are doing it more than we all think. I think (and it’s just my opinion) that if you educate young people about the negative effects of having sex while they are young and/or having unprotected sex they will be at least at a minimum able to make an educated decision as to whether or not to have sex (protected or not); whether they make the right decision is up to them. It’s better than kids not knowing the consequences of unprotected sex and doing it when the opportunity presents themselves and looking back wishing they had known.
@GhostBenjimon - which part? lol
@fullmetalbunny - legally old enough to buy condoms? This is another insane thing about our society! teenagers are having sex!!! why the hell would we make it illegal for them to buy condoms?! it’s like we’re encouraging unprotected sex!
yes
Do the people over whom she has an influence — little elementary school girls — even know what a condom is? Imagine parents everywhere suddenly having to deal with that awkward question.
On the other hand, maybe I’m way underestimating this generation’s kids and their knowledge of stuff I was totally clueless about for way too long.
yes! way too young! and i’m 17 saying that!lol if she accepts that it will just kill her carreer
nope, i think 15 is just nice. good age to start sex education too. in fact, i woulda prefer 14.
Yes.
Definitely too young. Plus, kids who look up to her would probably take the message the wrong way and read it as: MILEY IS SAYING IT’S OKAY TO HAVE SEX!!
…and then all hell would break loose. And yes, Disney would fire her.
Damn right! Their offer should be a criminal offense!
no, but the kids who like her are like, eight. so yes, i think it’s a bad choice.
@cre13 - My point was I find it ironic that a girl who says that she will wait for sex (bold for emphasis, not for simulated online yelling purposes) might advertise for a company whose whole existence depends on people having sex.
if you look at it as “IF you have sex,
be safe” then it’s a little different.
Good point; I hadn’t looked at it that way. I think that is a good stance for the company itself to take, no matter what. And if Miley Cyrus were to be a spokesperson, if she could make that her message, then I could see it as a positive thing. But, referring to the point I made above, attempting that may prove difficult and risky for her image.
I definitely agree with you — “abstinence only” is a ridiculously stupid sex-education method.
@saxy_grrl - yes, it is very ironic but it could be seen as a very mature thing to do for a young girl planning to wait for marriage.
and it is indeed risky. it’ll have to be a decision she makes considering all possible outcomes. it’ll be very interesting to see if this does pan out and how it all affects her. i’d also be interested in seeing the demographics on sales of condoms after their marketing efforts begin.
That depends on what they have her doing. Generally, I would say NO, unless she’s doing an obscenely sexed-up ad in which she’s emulating sex.
@JEuCE - Married couples can use condoms, too. And abstinence and safe(r) sex education do not have to be mutually exclusive.
@PretendPrincess - Well, she obviously didn’t use them, so she wouldn’t be the best spokesperson, now would she?
@suggestivetongue - She might have plans to use condoms in ten years after she gets married. Or, she might just want other people to be safe.
*sighs*
She’s only 15?
Ugh. Another psycho-starlett in the making, I’m afraid…
I guess on one side, yes too young, but on the other, well, teens do need to be encouraged to use condoms, and another teen is a likely spokesperson. IDK, tough one.
Hanna Montana Condoms?
@la_faerie_joyeuse - This is true, however there are many other people more suited for this type of marketing.
No, we have to factor into consideration that teenage pregnancies are on the rise and girls are getting increasingly open about sex at a younger age…
YES. It’s bad enough that she’s the Achilles Heal of every man over 18.
Are you seriously asking us this question? I think you already know the answer to your own ques.
ok, i’m 15, and if miley’s smart, she wouldn’t do it. wouldn’t that send the wrong idea? it would basically make it seem like miley is saying “oh its okay to go out and have sex at a young age as long as you do it safely!”
Give me a freaking break! Let her sing. She a great singer. Let her just do that…
she’s pretty young, but the message is important…and i’s $1,000,000 (that she doesn’t really need…)
YES and they are frikkin’ tacky to even think of asking her.
I dont think a guy would use a condom with her name on it like everything else, much less a picture.
People are just going through a stage. No she should not. Pick me.
I think so, but sadly kids are having sex at younger and younger ages so it probably wouldn’t be a bad idea..
Absolutely. If anything, she should be a spokesperson for abstinence.
Honestly, she’s not too young because she’s in high school like me, and everyone is having sex.
But to the public, it’s not an image you want to bring more attention to so I would say no she should not be a spokesperson.
How about Jamie Lynn Spears?
I’m sure Disney would LOVE that. Not to mention her dad.
My first reaction is to say she’s waaaaay too young, but, sadky, this day and age there are so many 15 year olds (and younger) who are sexually active, and they’re much more likely to listen to a peer than someone else. Besides, with all these young starlets getting pregnant (i.e. Lynn Spears and Raven) maybe it’s good for them to see another young starlet advocating condom usage.
Jamie Lynn Spears would be a better spokeswoman.
NO
because 15 yr olds are the ones who need sex education!
Miley is the wrong person to be advocating safe-sex. She has an extremely young fan base (my youngest sister loves her and she’s eight–we’re scared about her future behaviour as is). Someone else would be better suited. Her age is perfect.
Everyone is freaking out about fifteen year olds having sex, it seems. I’m sixteen and that seems normal. I’m more worried about my thirteen year old sister sneaking out at two in the morning to meet up with a boy. What were they going to do? Play Parcheesi?
It’s getting worse.
If she did end up being their spokesgirl, the commercial should play out like this: Miley and her little friend from the show should be at a party. Both of them should be enticed to go “somewhere quiet”, but Miley refuses, saying that she’s waiting for marriage. However, her friend agrees to go. Miley is upset, but she tells her friend to use a condom. Because she figures, if she’s gonna do it, she better be safe.Booya.
lolll
yeahh
I thought she was supposed to be the new Hilary Duff and being the role model for young children…. so where do condoms come into the picture there? Her pure image is gone. Poor Billy Ray.
No way.
I started having sex two days after my 15th birthday (with my boyfriend-of-the-time who I was with for over a year).
I think she would be a good influence on the young-uns.
well, if she were in europe. i think you only need consent from her parent’s for her to do something like this by the time she’s at least 16.
Kids are gonna do it regardless of Miley Cyrus or not…and if the kids ARE doing it, it’s better they be SAFE than knocked up or STD-infected, don’t you believe?
True, they might want to go for an older celebrity…a 20 year old or so…but no one has the punch like she does. I lost my virginity at 15, then didn’t have sex again for 2 years.
They should use Jamie Lynn Spears, maybe…her AND her baby. And have the caption say something like, “If you choose to have sex, choose to be safe, or THIS can happen to you.”
welcome to the new world… prepare to be desensitized… SEX SEX SEX
its just as well that they use her i mean it could be worse it could be her grandmother as the spokes woman…
@SpiritualBattlefield - Most likely, I mean, with an image as marred as hers… and with british moms already boycotting her “innocent” image…
I’d go into hiding til I was 18.
yes I do. She should be talking about abstinence not protected sex.
Um, do you honestly think that 15 yr olds aren’t thinking of sex, or having it?
Although I don’t think they should, they are… whether we believe it or not.
One of my kids’ friends is 17 and PG w/ her 2nd baby, and another girl we know who just turned 16 had an abortion this week… they are having sex ppl.
She is only too young because of the backlash of MORAL OUTRAGE that such a move would create. As it stands, she would probably do more harm than good – the issue of condom use would be second to that of the fifteen-year-old condom spokesperson.
To put it another way, yeah, kids having sex is bad, but sticking your fingers in your ears and yelling “AH-AH-AAAHHH, DON’T DO IT” probably won’t work. We need to tackle the issue from all sides. Yes, abstinence is all well and good, but people shouldn’t be completely fucked (pun well intended) if they are sexually active. Not even if they’re “too young.”
uhhh, yes.
Yep.
It may promote safe sex as well as teenage sex. duh.
@KechiNeko244 - actually, she already is a supporter of abstinence, so I think the whole her being a spokesperson for the condoms are farce.
Y E S ! ! !
Yes
No! It’s her age group that needs to be hearing this.
Who is that?
I guess she can reach those in her age group.
she should be endorsing abstinence
nuts. /reject
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES
T O T A L L Y! I’m a year older than Miss Miley, and am waiting for Mr. Right(Oh, I hate talking about this(yes, she’s to young, and she should keep her word about abstinence or whatever she said)
yes. shes definitely too young. condoms are great and all but at the age of 15, kids shouldn’t be having sex at all. besides, a lot of her fans in the preteen category, like 9-13. i think she should stay away from the whole business.
YAY!!!! Now she can influence all of those bubble gum chewing blow job giving virginal 11 year olds so that maybe they won’t get the clamydias.
Whatever – I use durex :-p. Couldn’t hurt her reputation any more than those “skanky” pictures. You know, the ones that a lot of girls send to their boyfriends but don’t get called out on because they aren’t celebrities…
Yes. But not that plenty of fifteen year olds dont have sex already.
But this wouldn’t make the ones that are already having sex want to be safe.
It would just further influence those who don’t to have sex.
And I’m sure Lifestyles knows this.
it’s the same as using an attractive man in the commercials.
it makes younger boys believe that in order for women to find them attractive,
the have to have sex
i really want to say YES, she IS too young..but honestly, kids are having sex at a much younger age than their parents (or anyone older than them) think.
She IS influential for the tween market.. and little kids will promise that they’ll remain virgins until marriage, but not all of them will actually keep that promise.
it’s going to be weird seeing her on their ads though..not to mention seeing condom ads on the Disney Channel and such?!?! Out of place! Wow! It seems it.
YES!!!
Yes, especially considering that her fan base is mostly younger girls like 10 year olds, not girls her own age.
You should really get paid for bringing 100 or so visits to each page you link. Haha!
Yes. And not only that, Miley is a Christian girl who ptactices abstinence, the only true form of “safe sex.” She should be a spokesgirl for that instead.
sure
Yes! Not to mention most of her fans are 10 and younger!
Yes!!!
If she was a spokesperson, then hopefully it would result in less teenage pregnancy. and then again she is way too young.
I think she’s waaaaay too young, and her primary audience (elementary and middle schoolers) are way too young to need that message…
I think it sends the wrong message, BUT it’s probably the better message.
Because the message SEX IS BAD, DON’T DO IT doesn’t get through to teenagers anymore.
So maybe SEX IS BAD, BUT IF YOU DO IT PLEASE USE PROTECTION is a good thing. And at 15 how many are virgins these days? I mean, she may be, but… the idea is that if she is having sex, she’s being safe about it to prevent babies and diseases. And maybe her cult following will heed this warning and do it, too.
It’s a gamble, really.
And just because kids around that age SHOULDN’T be having sex definitely doesn’t mean they AREN’T. Girls hit puberty anywhere between the ages of 9 and like 15 or 16, and that plus the social pressures of sex and sexuality make them more likely to get into sex earlier. It’s better to try to keep them safe than to be naive and believe they’re all going to be innocent.
I think at this point in her career that could KILL her image. Maybe when she’s like 17 and not trying to sign for
a third season of her show.
who cares?
my niece looks up to miley cyrus……….. so i don’t think a 15 year old should be a spokesperson for a condom company!
Yes.
To say that a 15-year-old starlet is too young to promote safe sex is to suggest that 15-year-olds are too young to be having sex.
Which is a factually inaccurate and self-delusional thing to say.
she is too young, but she’s also too young to have slutty pictures on the internet, and she’s already done that.
Yes, very much so.
Nope, sure dont. You are learning about them in sex ed class at this age anyways so more power to her if she does.
Yes. Definately.
@Ex_Adyto_Cordis - I agree! Abstinence Only is a massive failure, and rather than call these kids “sluts” and wish (i.e. pray) it away, why not do the responsible thing and face the problem with a sense of reality.
She’s certainly far too young, and for all the interviews i’ve seen of her professing her faith–it would make her look like a big hypocrite.
That would completely shatter her Disney career, by far.
And to answer your question, yes. She’s probably even too young to have sex in her state of residence. What a lot of people forget that if you’re not at the age of consent–even though you’re a minor–you still can’t have sex, legally.
But that law doesn’t stop a lot of teenagers. I don’t even think they’re aware of it, really, and they think it only applies to someone over the age of consent that wants to have sex with a minor.
With society these days, a 15 year old endorsing condoms does not sound like a bad idea. Heck if i would see her endorsing life style condoms i would buy a box
Hahahaha.
YES!! my 10 year old cousin loves her and she doesnt even know what a condom is and she shouldnt find out from miley.
“I don’t think she is too young to do an ad
for abstinence or safe sex… but to actually be sponsored by a condom
company… maybe…. Just because we want to THINK kids don’t do it
before they are eighteen… Well clearly that isn’t true…”
Very true. Lots of kids are sexually active at fifteen. I went to one of the best high schools around, was completely sheltered and naive and blind to so many things… stayed out of sexual trouble myself. But now that I’m 20 and out of high school, I’m having real conversations with kids I went to high school with and an astonishing number of them (which, to me, is a number as “low” as three of twelve, or 25%) were sexually active in high school, and at fifteen or sixteen at that. We need to keep in mind that oral sex is just as dangerous, when speaking about STDs, as intercourse is. Pregnancy is not the only issue. We also need to keep reinforcing that it is okay to wait, and that sex is not a sign of love and anyone saying “if you really love me, you would do this for me” is not someone who really loves you. What really needs to happen, though, is a shift in perception, not in education. Purity needs to be seen as a reason for praise, not condemnation; people need to stop putting down those who are waiting as “prude” and “boring” and “missing out.” These messages of being boring or missing out are widely expressed; messages of abstinence being beneficial/healthy/strong/whathaveyou are not.
miley is wearing a something ring… chastity ring or something… no sex before marriage ring i think… or whatever! so she won’t have premarital sex… she can’t be a condom girl til she gets married! tee hee! (^_^)
Yeah but the fact that she’s “influential” would make her a good candidate.
ha. if she did kids 13-15 would have madd sex.. haha sorry random thought.. but yes she is too young. but she doesnt even look 15
