  • Shaving

Men have to shave their face every day or almost every day.  They also have to shave around a very sensitive part of their neck.  This post was inspired by RaVnR.

Some women don’t have to shave every day because they can just wear pants.  But when they shave, they have to cover more territory.

Who has it tougher as it relates to shaving, a man or a woman?

  • Aww sweet I seriously was.
Do you love me now, Dan?

Anyway. I have to shave everything. So probably women.

  • Women also (usually) have to shave their armpits, and sometimes other areas. Though I would really hate to have to shave my face every day. I’ll say men have it worse.

  • I like beards and I have blonde leg hair.

    Win all around!

  • uhm.  it’s harder for women. i’d rather face my face every day then have to shave two legs, armpits and other things every other day.

  • men have it worse, women have alternatives to hair removal…..men need to rely on the razor…..

  • I think Men do… of course If my hubby doesn’t shave for a couple of days it hurts to kiss him because of those razor sharp whiskers! So maybe I have it harder!

  • Woman, in the long run. We shave more. Under arms, legs, and for a ton of girls, pubes. As much as shaving your face must be men, it’s a small hassle compared to the grooming we do.

  • @suggestivetongue - Mhmm. I recognize the male struggle, but still believe women have it much, much worse.

  • The main difference in the shaving of men vs women is society.  If a man doesn’t shave his face-oh well.

but if a woman misses a day of shaving–and it shows–it’s not as acceptable.

  • Depends on your heritage.

I have to shave my legs almost every day because I’m half Italian – blondes can get away with less.

I think it would be easier for a guy though.  But I don’t know.

  • fat chicks, it’s hard shaving your legs when your fat.

  • i guess girls

    peace max

  • Men. Their hair seems to grow back faster.

Besides if we cut ourself while shaving, just wearpants or a sleeved shirt and no one will notice.

  • men have it much worse

  • Did you just steal part of my post and make it yours?!? You jerk

  • What brought this question about? Hmmm

  • Women, definitely. A lot more area to cover.

Plus, beards can be hot. Female leg hair is just not.

  • I am fortunate that my hair takes awhile to grow so I can go a couple days before having to shave my legs again. However, like MOST women I don’t just shave my legs. I shave my armpits and I keep things neat and tidy in other areas everyday :ahem: Waxing is NOT an easier way to get rid of hair, that is a terrible excuse. But yea, it’s more difficult for women I think.

  • I think men have it worse.

  • @da_smart1 - I think it depends if it matters for men or not- a college student or a construction worker who chooses to forgo shaving  will not be looked down on, but for a man in a business setting it would be subject to some criticism.

  • Women. What’s more socially acceptable some scruff on a man’s face or some hairy legs on a woman?

Um. Men don’t have to shave everyday, and can still be seen as “not a freak.” They’re called beards. I bet Jesus had one!

@da_smart1 - Crap. You beat me to that.

  • Shaving?  .. what is that ?..

  • Women.  They pretty much have to shave, whereas men can always play the “growing a beard” card if they happen by chance to neglect their whiskers one morning.

  • I’d rather have to shave the small area men do. Us women have it worse, I suppose.

  • I’ll have to say Women have it worse because of how many areas they have to shave.

  • Probably women, so what if men get a cut? Who cares? Looks like a cool scar. XD

  • I wouldn’t really say one gender has it worse than the other…they both have downsides.

  • Society will let men get away with not shaving but women are practically required to – I’m going with women.

  •  Men with a two-three day unshaved face…. hot!

Women with unshaved legs, etc…NOT hot!!

Sorry men have it easier, for once!

  • Hmmm… I think men do actually. Women can cover up if they miss a day, but men look like they’ve spent the night drinking, rolled out of bed, and couldn’t be bothered.

  • Women have to shave around sensitive areas too, Dan. Plus we have to bend like Gumby to get to some areas. I’d say women have it worse.

  • I don’t think I’d be able to shave my face! that’s scarey!
but I don’t shave my legs anyways. Takes too much time. I preffer waxing.

  • I don’t think I’d want to shave my face every day.  The rest, while in the shower, is not so bad.

  • I’d say men have it worse. …but hmmm, I think I know where you got the idea for this post. :P

  • it’s us… sorry.

  • probably a man… we can wear jeans and hide it… and its easy and fast to shave our legs, lol. i can imagine that itd be harder to cover facial hair. plus, nicking your leg and nicking your face, i’m going with facial nicks hurt more!

  • Women have it harder. If men grow a beard, no one really cares. If women have hairy legs and underarms, well, it’s considered strange in society. So not only do women have to shave a larger area, but they do it because that’s what our society calls for.

  • Since you already know my opinion on shaving and everyone is trading TMI, I used to bite my nails off all the way until I decided my hands looked more feminine with longer nails. Do male nail biters have it easier? Yeah! XD

  • Neither. Nobody actually has to shave.

  • probably women.  i seriously have no idea who decided that smooth legs were sexy for women,  but if they’re not dead then they ought to be shot.  every time i shave my legs (which is about ever 2-3 days in the summer and then whenever i’m going to wear something that shows my legs in winter) it adds about 10-15 minutes to my shower…think of all the water that i waste in that time!

  • Because I personally dislike shaving, I’m going to say I have it worse!

  • Eh, I think women do because men just shave their faces. Now if they shave or wax their other body hair it’s another story. I guess if a man were a hairy Arab, Indian, or Italian, I would say men do because they are just covered with hair. Yuck.

I’m also fortunate to have pretty light leg hair, so if I can go a week without shaving. Hehehe.

  • I don’t know what to say. Since my parents are super conservative Asians, they won’t let me shave. And yes I have been through the horrors of gym class. I’m glad I don’t have that anymore.

  • Women have it worse. Some women shave more than just legs and pits if you know what I mean and it takes more time for them to shave than men. Men can choose not to shave beards everyday too, but some do and some women shave legs and other parts everyday as well.

  • Does the woman in question shave her vaginal area as well?

  • hey dan…gettin’ any?

  • There is more stigma for women with stubble (doesn’t matter where). Imagine I guy with a five o clock shadow vs. a women with hairy underarms…. guys can get away with doing less.

  • Harder for women!  We have to shave “down there” sometimes too.
And the knee area is just impossible to shave. =P

  • Men, I think.

I’ve never been that bothered by shaving.

    @TakingxOverxMe - And who says men shouldn’t?

But the knee area is much easier if you simply move your leg around to stretch the skin as tightly as possible.

  • i think it’d depend on how fast your hair grows back.

  • Men, because they shave everyday and not all women have a lot of hair to shave.  I know some women barely have any not, me of course.  I wish that’s true but, I have to shave every other day.  They grow fast and it’s not lady like to have any body hair exposed.  Still, majority women have less hair and less work especially during the winter time.

  • @tdillo102091 - Turn off the water while you’re actually shaving, or just let it trickle instead of full-out blast, so you can rinse the razor.

@mkenyon719 - But you can use Nair on all those other parts-  just not the face.  So much easier.

  • Men do. Although the area is larger on women….there isn’t as much hair per area as is on a man’s face.

  • Men. Women can wax or use products that make hair grow slower, so they don’t have to do it everyday.

Of course, not all men shave everday…or at all. Some men look better with stubble. Men have to be more careful when they shave though.

  • I dont think either have it worse or better. But women have to shave more, but when men cut or miss, it’s kind of hard to hide. So, eh. Depends on hair amounts?

  • I wish i had blond hair, then some hai would look okay but i’ve got black hair, arg i hate it,

men get it worse, especially triathletes, runnung and swimming, running stimulates the growth on my legs and swimming means i need to shave it off. plus shaving everyday is worse than having to full shave every now and then. plus it’s much more visible on the face

  • Honestly, I think men have it worse. They cannot cover-up their stubble

  • I think women have it worse because we have more shaving to do. Some guys have long hair so they don’t shave and some have a stubble so they don’t even shave everyday.

  • women do .   .   . we have to shave up our legs over our shin with no fat between the skin and the bone–ouch!

and need i remind you of “brazillian wax”  :)

  • women. we HAVE to shave. men can grow beards and not be seen as disgusting and women need to shave quite regularly

  • women. for men, it’s socially acceptable to just stop shaving and grow a beard. women who don’t shave are seen as weird and/or gross.

  • Women. Sure, we could put on pants if we didn’t shave but what if it’s 100 degrees out and we don’t have any razors? Albeit, any extra body hair in the heat is annoying, what’s going to be “nicer” to look at, some guy with a bad 5 o’clock shadow or a girl’s fuzzy legs?

It all boils down to what’s socially acceptable. And, body hair other than your head and eyebrows just isn’t acceptable for women these days.

  • Um, hello armpits and crotch!

I definitely vote women. Men can wear beards.

    Or mustachios!

  • Women have more hair to remove, and while we can resort to hair removal creams/lotions, wax, or other such things, those things all cost money and can be quite irritating to the skin.

Also-razor burn?  Sucks on the face I’m sure, but have you (ladies) ever had it all over your legs and then put on pants?  That is NOT COMFORTABLE in the least.  Or, if you are rushing, and shave your pits and then put on deodorant?  That hurts too.  I think the chances of irritation or discomfort due to shaving are more varied for women, along with the fact that we are judged a lot harsher if we have stubble anywhere.  Guys can get away with stubble on their faces, and it’s hard for us to get away with any if you have dark hair as I do.

  • when women get married they can and do, according to some reliable sources, stop shaving for extended periods of time. men still have to shave to be presentable for work etc.

    pre-marriage: womenafter marriage: men
    don’t shoot the messenger.

  •  Shaving is a pain in the ass for both, men and women………

  • Women have more acreage to cover, and they seem to care more about such things.  Me?  If I don’t feel like shaving, I don’t.

  • I think men have it harder … every day, more sensitive areas, and a tougher / bumplier (haha) surface to cover (I assume). But then again, I’m totally *BLIND* in the shower without my glasses. I can’t tell if I’ve missed anything and I cut myself often. Not nicks – big cuts. And there’s so much skin to cover …. TT___TT

In general, I would say men have it worse. I’m just inept. And there are probably other inept women like me ….

    nah. Men win.

  • Shaving pubic hair is a bitch. At least the ladies has more fun with the bikini wax.

  • Just because it isn’t all being shaven off doesn’t mean us guys don’t appreciate the trim in other places now and then.

Besides, women only have to shave when they intend on having someone look at them without clothes on =)

  • Men, I think.

I have so little armpit and leg hair as it is, and so I rarely need to shave! Ha.

  • A man can grow a beard and it’s not a weird thing.  In fact the “5 o’clock shadow” is often seen as sexy.  A woman with hairy legs?  Ostracized from society.

  • Definitely men. They need to shave more often and in a sensitive skin area like the face. I also know several men who shave their legs too – lots of work…

By the way, wearing pants doesn’t mean that women don’t shave.

  • Look, women don’t have it easy, but men have to shave their face, if a man makes a mistake it’s there for the whole wide world to see.

  • Women. :)

  • haha. I’m used to shaving. I like to shave my leg coz i do it only about once in 3 weeks, but i do wish i dun hafta shave down under as often as I need to.

  • I’d rather shave my legs than my face. If I mess up, it’s easier to hide and I don’t have to walk around with a piece of tissue stuck to my cheek.

  • Women- because if people do see they haven’t shaved, it’s “disgusting” whereas with men, people sometimes see stubble as “sexy”.

  • Men do, if they cut themselves or get bumps everyone can see it.

  • women

besides, men don’t always have to shave every day.  i happen to like the scruffy look personally

  • It depends… counting armpits and legs as separate things, a woman has five things she potentially shaves. A man has his face, if he doesn’t shave anything else. That means women have it tougher. But men who go all the way and shave everything have it worst, lol. But besides swimmers, how many men do that really?

  • Men have it worse,  definitly.

  • My husband has it much worse than I do, because he has to shave his face and his head.

Shaving my legs only takes a few minutes, so it’s not like it’s any big deal.

  • “Who has it tougher”? If your life’s so perfet that you even have time to consider this, you shouldn’t be allowed to use the phrase.

  • haha, definitely men. i tried to shave my boyfriends face and the hair is so coarse it makes it a little harder on the razor. not to mention i accedently cut him on the neck spot that so sensitive…. i’d rather shave my legs.

  • Men like myself who shave their face and their legs.

  • women…men can have beards.

beards are much more socially acceptable than hairy legs.

  • Women are expected by society to uphold a certain standard that men are not…

  • I’d say men because it isn’t that hard to shave your legs.  Yes there is a lot of territory but I don’t find that it is such a big deal, and that is coming from a girl who hates spending time in the bathroom.

  • Hmmm… tough. Men actually have an option to grow their facial hair without scrutiny. Women can’t just say, “Oh, I’ve decided to grow leg beards…,” or, “yeah, I thought the knee goatees looked good on me…,” or “my husband loves my hitler ankles.”

  • I would say women, just because we don’t have just our legs to worry about.  There is also underarms, upper lip, and other *far* more sensitive areas from which we “must” remove hair.

  • Women do because a man can go without shaving and not have it be a big deal. Women have more areas to shave.

  • Women definitely.  So much to shave, so many awkward positions to be in.  We can’t always be in pants, unless we want to melt like an ice cream sandwich in summer.
Men can have beards, goatees, or if you have that kinda face, can pull off the scruffy look.
Food for thought:  men cyclists shave their legs to cut down on wind drag.  That’s probably no fun.

  • very labour  intensive for  women….

men have a sensitive .,…neck…oh please

  • women, all the way. we definitely have to cover much more area on our bodies. and just wearing pants reminds you that you didnt have time to shave and you just want to get home and shave those legs!

  • @revengeoftheturtleneck -

Well, unless they keep their beards nicely trimmed and not too long, but that’s a whole other issue altogether.

“He who hath a beard is more than a youth, and he who hath no beard is less than a man.  He who is more than a youth is not for me, and he who is less than a man, I am not for him.” –Beatrice, from Much Ado About Nothing

Um…  It just depends on your chosen shaving habits.  Overall, I’d say women unless a man really has to shave his face every day.

  • women.  your photo representing a female shaving is deceiving.  a shave consists of legs, as shown, but also the upper legs to the hip joint on some women, and the bikini line, and the brazilian area for many, and arm pits…  please i’d love to just shave one, relatively flat, smooth surface daily rather than all that every few days!

  • Women. Men dont have to shave every day. I think stubble’s quite sexy =]

Plus yeah, we have waaaay more to shave.

  • Men have it tougher….people don’t usually stare at my legs when they talk to me :)

  • I say men, if we’re just factoring in legs. Men shave around rather important arteries, and it’s a much tougher place to shave than legs, which are basically straight and smooth.

How ever, if you factor in “other areas” that people are talking about, women. It’s hard to shave there!

  • Women, if we are talking about armpits and all that good stuff. hehe. But MEN most likely. Shaving on the face is a lot harder. . very sensitive too. . well, in my opinion. Never tried, just looks painful. .

    x0x MK

  • I choose to grow a beard, so all I have left to shave is my neck, the sensitive part, and sometimes it get’s real bad razor burn -_- I’m not sure who has it worse; do women have sensitive spots on their legs? I don’t think so. I think it evens out with the fact that it’s less painful for women even though they cover more “territory.”

  • @The_White_Belt -

bikini line  etc!!!Do you shave  THERE?:) giggle

  • @Jaz - I don’t usually wear bikinis, so; no I don’t shave in that area. Where does the “etc” go? ;)

  • Women do.. We don’t JUST have to shave our face.. We have alot more ground to cover, along with make-up, hair, nails.. etc.. men can jump in and out of the shower, shave and be ready… ok, ok i know we are talking about just shaving…. i got carried away… still,  women

  • women of corse.  all men have ot do is stand and look in the mirror.  women have to bend in some pretty uncomfortable positions to shave.

  • women for sure. goodness.
It’s a pain in the ass and you’re like a social reject or REALLY gross if you don’t….

women have it tougher in terms of shaving.

  • It depends. If the man doesn’t like facial hair and he shaves it off, it’s no big deal — you just shave it off and be done with it. On the other hand, if the man has a certain style of facial hair that he likes, say a goatee, then he has to spend time making it look good. Depending on the facial hair, it could take him from 5 minutes to several hours.

The only hair women style when shaving is their pubes, and not all women do that.

Sure, women have to cover more grounds, but that doesn’t make it tougher — that just makes it time consuming.

There are also men who shave their legs etc. If the man likes to have a non-hairy body, then the man has it tougher than the woman hands down.

But I’ll just say it’s a 50/50. Women, it’s more about time consuming. For men, it can be time consuming, but it’s mostly a short period of time (within 30 minutes) that are crucial. There are a lot of rules about making facial hair look good and if you mess up, it probably wouldn’t look good. For women, you have to physically point out where you missed hairs when shaving.

  • I think it’s harder for men. If I’m in a rush, I can hide hairy armpits or whatever. It’s hard to disguise an unshaven face.

  • i’d say women…it’s not only legs its underarms…why is REALLY sensitive and if you haven’t then you’re mocked…men aren’t shamed for not shaving their face.  Also…it’s not just legs, it’s a lot more involved then that!

AND that’s the only thing men have to do…shave their face!  TRY BEING A GIRL FOR ONE MONTH!! I DARE YOU!

  • women do because its cool for guys to have beards… not cool for girls to have home maid leg warmers ^_^

  • In addition to legs in armpits, there are some really hair women who shave their arms and toes and remove facial hair, too .

Those women have it far worse.

    Luckily I’m blond…

  • Women have it tougher. We have to shave our armpits, crotch, and legs because society has taught us that men don’t like it when women have hair in places that isn’t socially acceptable. Now we don’t necessarily have to shave our crotch. And as far as men shaving their necks and can cut themselves deeply, women can also cut themselves deep too. I have cut myself numerous times and have had some pretty severe cuts on my legs because of a brand new razor, but do not know of any man that has cut his carotid artery open by shaving.

  • girls because it is socially unacceptable for girls to go out in public in shorts or dresses if their legs are not shaved.  A guy can skip shaving if he wants to, or he can just not shave at all.  Girls really do have to shave every day because you never know when you’ll need to wear something that won’t cover your legs.  You may wear pants one day, but then someone will invite you to go swimming or workout at the gym and you don’t wear sweatpants or something..  it sounds stupid, but it happens WAY more often than you think.  Plus, it is a lot more difficult for girls to shave legs than for gave to shave their faces.  The knee is nearly impossible to shave and some parts around the ankle are nearly impossible!  And you usually don’t know if you did or wrong until you’re out of the shower..

  • plus most girls shave their private area, which is actually quite painful and itchy (especially if you don’t do it correctly) as it grows back..  Men never do (even though guys’ pubic hair is WAY more disguisting to look at than girls’)

  • women, no doubt in my mind

  • Women do, they have more than their legs to shave dont forget :) they have armpits and other places that need it a lot.

  • Women, we have to pluck our eyebrows, shave our underarms and our legs. It stinks.

  • Women. Because men do not HAVE to shave their face. Maybe their neck.  They can grow a beard or even some stubble is not bad.   Women can’t do that unless they aren’t too hairy.

  • yeah, i definatly rather shave my face everyday
    girls, well..there is just more

  • Men. I don’t want to take a razor to my neck!

  • Men also shave thier pubes. SO we have more to watch out for. We could do some serious damage!! Women arent really at that type of risk. LOL Men have it alot harder.

  • I would have to say that men do because the hair is more noticeable when not shaven. I can get away with not shaving my legs for a while since I wear pants in public most of the time. I mostly wear pants when I go to people’s houses, too.

  • Men have it worse.

But… girls have to be careful when they shave the space at the back of their knee. There is a vein and if they cut it, you could bleed to death.

At least that’s what my 4th grade teacher told me ;P

  • duh women. men just don’t like to groom…

  • women, hands down….

  • women , of course . men don`t have to shave . they can grow their beards as long as they want . however , women are deemed upon as having to shave their legs or they`re disgusting . oh , and their underarms . men can let that grow out too . . .

  • I am so tired of these, “Who has it worse? Which gender endures more?” types of questions.

They both have to shave. It is such a trivial thing to worry about. Who cares about any of this? Don’t we have more important things to worry about?

  • I think it’s a tie. Men: 1.Don’t shave, will be harder to gat a well paying job. 2. Can only use a razor. Women: 1. Have other ways to shave but it hurts. 2. Have way more places to shave. 3. Can’t find a date if they are hairy.

  • Personally, if you take razor burn, ingrown hairs, and all that nasty stuff into consideration, I’d say women have it harder.

Because men can get those, too, but women can have those problems in a lot more places.

I even know a girl who has to shave her arms because she thinks men will think her arms are too hairy.

  • I think women do. We have more areas to shave and the hair is often in very sensitive areas.

  • @TeacherPerson - It’s going to be pretty hard to cut yourself on your neck unless you are doing it deliberately. It’s easier for women to cut themselves on their legs or privates or underarms since the skin is thinner on our legs and underarms. I have cut myself many times shaving and it’s not fun. I have never known a man to cut his neck open while shaving.

  • @JoeNehl - How are women not at that type of risk? Unless you shave your testicles, I don’t see how. Our lips of our vagina are very sensitive. And it’s really hard to get the hair above the clitoris where the lips start to fold…and make the actual lips. We can’t really see down there unless we use a mirror. I have never cut myself down there, but have where the bulk of the hair is. My brother, who does shave his testicles (don’t ask), has never had a problem. It’s not like you are shaving your penis while it is erect. And it’s not like you need to shave your penis anywhere since no hair grows on it.

  • Why should women have to shave our privates, legs, and underarms, when men don’t?

If I am doing all of that work to make it nice and neat and pretty, then they should too.

  • @blackspiders - My cousin has to shave her arms too because she thinks she will look like Chewbacca from Star Wars.

  • Women. Most definitely. We have a lot more to shave, and most women shave every other day or every three days. Besides…it’s not just legs women shave. Armpits, sometimes arms, legs, privates, etc.

  • Men. People pay more attention to the face, it’s harder to hide, and more sensitive.

For women, we can hide it easily, it’s harder to hurt, and easy to do. Think about it. Even men who have beards have to keep them nice, or people will think strange things about them.
