  • Women Voters

There has been so much talk about whether McCain picked a woman as his vice-president to attract women voters.  I hear some angry Democrats saying that they will not switch over to McCain just because he has a woman as a vice-president.

The funny thing is that I doubt McCain would have received most of those supporters of Hillary anyway.  I do wonder whether some of the women in the political middle will be attracted to a ticket that has a woman on it.

Do you think women are more likely to vote for McCain because he picked a woman as a vice-president?

  • this is gonna be one fucked up election

  • I think he chose her because she is an Evangelical Christian and McCain stands a 30% chance of dying of natural causes before he leaves office.

This is the shadowy right wing agenda, which will propel America into a new dark age and spell the end of life as we know it on earth.

The day of the roaches is coming! There will be nothing left after world war 3.5

    :P

  • No. And I’m still going to write in Chuck Norris, I think.

This election just has to be the worst as far as the choice of candidates goes…

  • It’s intresting  I think he might sway them. Hes useing a trump card though useing the woman Obama could have used on Macain with Hillary but didn’t.

  • Oh course we could have the shadowy left wing agenda, which is for everyone to stand in a circle holding hands singing about hope on the deck of the US Titanic as it slips under the cold ocean waves.

    On youtube.

    It feels better though.

    So does crack.

  • Many women, yes.

  • I’m just gonna wait for November.
    And see who gets elected.

All the best, the US of A!

  • absolutely not. i think that most democratic women will stick with voting for obama. switching your vote just because mccain has a woman vp nominee is just plain stupid. especially because she has horrible views and policy, not to mention virtually no experience, and has the potential to take over if office if he kicks the bucket.

  • Anyone who votes for them simply because they want to “shatter” the glass ceiling is a moron. There’s so much more to voting than that.

  • Yes, probably.

  • I will not change my mind because he chose a woman as running mate. The notion that women would vote based ogn the sex of the candidate seems sxist to me.

  • @ch0w - You said it.

  • I try to vote on the issues, and platforms. Not on people, promises, gender, race, etc.

  • my manager at work was all about Obama before McCain’s vp choice was decided. yesterday, she told me that McCain now has her vote.

    hrm.

  • I think women voters are getting played. Obviously this was a very political move to win over women voters… but not anyone from the democratic party Im sure.

We should avoid things like race and gender and stay focused on the issues like some people are stating.

  • @RaVnR - Good shot! For someone to vote simply on race or gender alone is a pretty shallow way of thinking. I get that people are passionate about seeing a “black man” or a “woman” in a place of power… but really, theres more substance to it. A lot more… and we would do good to look past cheap tricks…we can be smarter than that.

  • I believe this was brilliant political strategy.  Do I think it was the “right” choice?  No.  I think he should have selected Romney, but if it had, I think it would have put his electability (is that a real word?) in danger.

  • Maybe the undecided ones. Walter Mondale learned 24 years ago that having a woman on the ticket wasn’t enough by itself to win the election, though.

  • Depends on what KIND of woman voter really. Are they prolife or prochoice? The prolife ones will love, the prochoice, not so much.

  • No..unless they are really stupid..

A stupid vote is still a vote.

  • I personally think that enough people will write in Chuck Norris as a joke that he may stand a chance… The question will then be which fist will be vice president and which fist will be the first lady.

  • I would think that some would.  Especially the feminists…

  • Yes, I do think it will happen.  It’s stupid, but it will happen.

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation
where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of
    their character.”

    Oh, how easily we forget!

  • He should have just gotten Chuck Norris as his VP.

The whole freaking world would vote for him then.

  • i’m not.  others may be.

  • Women who care to look at the issues will not switch, because Palin and Clinton are nothing alike in that respect as far as I can see.  Palin is heavily pro-life, says humans play no part in climate change/global warming, wants more oil drilling in her own state, and will fight to keep polar bears OFF the endangered species list–regardless of how polar bears are actually doing–in order to attract more drilling to that state.  Those are a few things that come to mind right now.

Sadly, I’m pessimistic about politics in this nation, and I think some women might be swayed by her.  I wish they’d look at the issues more.  I mean, if they are on the same political page as her, power to them.  If they’re simply defecting from the left to support a woman in power, then they need a reality check.  Not all women are the same, not all women have the same political beliefs (even in regards to women’s issues), and not all women are worthy of praise simply because they were born with the standard issue girl parts.

Oh, and she named her kids Trig, Bristol, Willow, Track, and something else kinda odd.  That’s just a fun fact, and has nothing to do with my political opinion of her.  It does make me wonder if she’s secretely a hippie, though.

  • This is a marketing ploy to try to sway women voters. It is a stupid move and I hope to God that women are not that stupid to fall for it, although I have my doubts.

Here we are at one of the most critical times in our history, in a war already, on the brink of other wars, the economy is a mess (the list goes on) and McBush wants to put this woman a heart beat away from being the leader? Good grief. Come on, People. Wake up!!!!

Look up Sara Palin’s history. The right wing Christian conservatives love her I am sure: anti abortion, oil drilling, gun packing…just what we need. In no way is she in any shape to be vice president, let alone president, but it could happen. Scary thought.

  • McCain was never ever going to get many democrat votes. Or will Obama receive a significant number of Republican votes.  The fight is always over the independents. She will help some ith them.

The truth is we are voting for president not vice president. This pick was great because it turned the topic away from Obama’s only gift, his prepared speeches and now we are all talking about McCain’s vice president. And she is rather pealing in many ways. And attacking her,  well it doesn’t make you look very good.

  • @mammaquiet - Admit it there are no republicans you would vote for. McCain could do nothing to recieve your vote. This is not about your type of voter. Doing anything that you would approve of, would be suicide for a republican.

  • @trunthepaige - I do admit there is nothing that would make me vote Repug in this election. You are also right that it is the independent and undecided voters that this is aimed at. I am just an aging flower child of the 60′s that has grown a tad (ok, more than a tad) cynical of politics. I lived through Regan, and (barf) Nixon and (double barf) Johnson and the Viet Nam war, Watergate, etc. etc. etc.

Nothing has changed much, same old, same old, in the political world, but this is what we have to work with so I keep myself informed, I believe what I believe, and I still vote (even tho after the last two elections I do wonder about the voting system)

You seem like a smart girl…keep up the good work. My youngest daughter will be 23 in November.

  • I think my only question is, will some of the older traditional Americans not vote for him because he does have a woman running with him?
I have heard many a older generation say they would rather die before they see a woman president.

  • I think it was pathetic posturing and strategy.  As a woman, I am insulted that McCain’s party think I will vote for a vagina rather than on the issues.

  • Since there are still plenty of people who are voting for Obama because he’s black, I have reason to believe that there are women who will vote for McCain because of Palin. Sad truth. :

  • I hope not, but it will probably happen.

  • juts because she has a vagina?!
    I WILL NOT BE DECEIVED.
… just because she has a va jay jay, a va jay jay, ugh, no, no no no.

  • why are they angry?  hahahaha,,, that dont make any sense,,, angry democrats who wont switch their votes,,,, they angry because they know they are in trouble?

    angry,,,,, hahahahahahahahahaha

  • @googoobear - hahahaha,,, thats the problem with kids,,, anything they hear is gospel,,,, hahahahahaha,,, not.

@mammaquiet -  “Look up Sara Palin’s history. The right wing
Christian conservatives love her I am sure: anti abortion, oil
drilling, gun packing…just what we need. In no way is she in any
shape to be vice president, let alone president,”  i see a lot of contradiction in that statement,,,,, you dont???

  • Yep. Unfortunately you have to garner to the vote of the average American, not the one that actually listens to issues. Most don’t. Most see an attractive woman and have no idea, let alone care, what she believes in. On the other side of the table, some people will see a black man and not think twice about what he stands for before voting for him. So, eh.

  • Nope!  I didn’t this test thingy online and it states that my choices are with Obama.

  • who cares about her gender… i want someone who has a clue. and she’s pretty cool if you ask me… her family is like some kinda arctic survivalist group or something, man.  *high five*

  • Probably so. I hope not. She will do so much less for women then the other candidates.

  • not unless the implication in your question is that women as a collective voting body in the united states are all inclined to ignore all other aspects involved in an election just because the vp candidate has a vagina.

  • Only if we keep suggesting they will.

  • Cultures create self-fulfilling prophecies too.

  • @Dare2BDiferentt - I agree. Chuck Norris FTW!

  • @Dare2BDiferentt - Amen to that.

  • If they do- sorry to be blunt- they are really fucking stupid.

Ironically, Biden has a long record of women’s rights support while Palin has absolutely none.

  • The only thing that angers democrats is the suggestion that they will vote for anything with a skirt. Argument that palin is more qualified because she was a governor for almost two years rather than Obama who was a us senator. Last time I checked McCain is also a us senator. Palin is a political move that might not be so humorous given his questionable age and health

  • For a bitter woman, left destroyed over Hilary’s loss, yes, this may just be the way to grab them.

She is not making the Republican Ticket anything I would vote for, but I am happily surprised to see the GOP willing to be bold enough to put a woman on the ticket.

So, from a historical perspective, we are guaranteed to see the face of our national leadership changing. That is wonderful, and significant.

    I’m voting for Obama.

  • Complete honesty:  YES.  I definitely think it will make a difference.  I am undecided as to political affiliation but usually vote republican because I don’t care for abortion.  This election I actually wanted to vote for Obama because he is so charismatic but absolutely refused to because I am against several of his political choices.  However McCain is not appealing to me at all.  And he’s not even as completely pro-life as I would like and that makes it really unfun to vote for him….so he adds a young woman who is very pro-life to his ballot.  I haven’t even heard her speak yet and know nothing but am already WAY more likely to vote for McCain now.  Seriously.  Do I think this comment makes me sound smart?  Not really, but it does give an honest insight into the mind of a slightly swayable female voter who ought to know more about politics but isn’t that interested and would rather watch Project Runway and write a blog than read about political issues.  (I care about abortion because to me it is a moral/social/relationship issue to me which grabs my attention much more quickly than anything economical or foreign policy-ish.)

  • @HotMike -  hmm…that’s interesting….buy why would a hippie be pro oil drilling?

  • I certainly hope women will be able to pay more attention to the issues at hand than to the existence of a vagina.

  • Probably…but it’s so ridiculous that women would vote for him just to get a female VP.  You shouldn’t vote for someone because they’re a woman, or because they’re black…you should vote based on their policies.

  • I think it was REALLY smart of McCain to pick the running mate he did…. Let’s be honest, more people are going to vote for Obama for superficial reasons than probably any other election.  Many black people who oppose his policies will vote for him anyway.  Many young people will vote for him because he seems hip.  This is a very superficial election and not just because of McCain.  Why lose an election because you are too traditional in appearance for the nation?  Why not add a bit of young modernism if that’s what America wants?  Besides, she does fit what most republicans go for, so it isn’t like he is being disloyal to the party.  Didn’t Obama do the same thing, try to pick a running mate who is older and white to grab the vote he might be losing?  Tacky comment, yes…truth to it….unfortunately probably so.

  • Well, if those in the middle can get over her hard-core conservative beliefs, or don’t care about seeling out their own just to see a woman in the White House (in whatever form), then sure. I am an independent (I am registered to no party), but am deeply offended by McCain’s choice. I will not vote for him, ever. To think that he thinks women are that stupid… I will not sacrifice my beliefs just because a woman — a woman I detest politically – happens to be on the ticket.

  • absolutley not. she is an uber conservative and a lifetime member of the NRA.

not to mention, she is leaving her 6 month old son with down syndrome to campaign.

    The women arent stupid.

  • My political views have nothin to do with my gender. I’m not going to vote up some Christian republican when I’m a liberal agnostic just because we both have a vag, thanks.

  • yes, and it was slimy and catty and anyone who thinks even for a second that “country first” could possibly describe a campaign that made a slimy move like that should be deported.

There are women, and then there are tools. Hillary Clinton is a woman; this “woman” is a politcal bitch to an old man.

  • Actually,  I turn the other way when its a woman in office.. its not right.. I dont know. I mean, I am sure that she qualifies but .Man is still head of HOUSE.

  • Nope. Wouldn’t feminists choosing a woman for feminism’s sake be just as “bad” as chauvinists choosing a man?

  • I like her because she’s pro-gun and pro-life, not because she has two X chromosomes. And I don’t think Hillary supporters would like her because she is pro-gun, pro-life, and pro-drilling. But women in the middle? Yeah, they might vote for him just because Palin’s on the ticket.

  • hopefully not – specially since she has such bad thoughts on womens rights….voting against abortions for incest and rape victims!  what woman does this?

  • @post_coma - finally a woman who sees what I see and who can see that she was only picked for her gender!

  • I guess it’s too much to hope that people vote for a candidate because they think that person will the the best job running the country, rather than choosing based on their gender or colour?

  • No I don’t think so, women prefer to vote for an alfa male, that’s just our biological program.

  • i’m not saying i will vote for him just because of her, but i’m positive that there are some women out there that do vote solely because of gender

  • I think a lot of conservative women are more likely to vote for him because of his choice.
I truly hope he doesn’t win.

  • @Lost_In_Reverie - I wont vote because of the existence of a vagina, but I will vote based on the blistering exposes and namby pamby celebrity music videos on youtube.

Because they are real. Vaginas I’m not so sure about…

  • I don’t think so … I think anyone on the McCain bandwagon (for WHATEVER reason) are on there to stay.  Now, they’ll just jump on this one.  I was so annoyed on Facebook when, in my feed, I saw friends of mine becomes “fans” of Palin.  Right then and there.  And I KNOW that they had done NO research on her WHATSOEVER.  It’s fine to support someone … it’s fine to support HER … but, good Lord, know who you’re supporting.

  • well, i gotta tell you, a lady friend o’ mine DID suddenly become interested in politics when he chose palin and she IS advocating mccain now… so maybe.

  • I would find it sad if women who were for Hillary, would then turn around and vote for Palin, since they have such vastly different stances on issues.  No one should be voted on just because they are a man or woman, black or white, whatever.  It should be about their character and what they stand for.

  • @ldjucb3 -

Yes they are both Senators. But one was Senator for what like one year before he started running for president and the other has been in Congress since 1982. Also McCain was an officer in the Military. That used to count for something.

  • A few. There are some that are still upset over Obama’s “Sweetie, get over it,” comment. And there were some Clinton voters who were already in McCain’s camp, as he’s arguably closer to

Still, Governor Palin was picked because of her record as a reformer. While her selection might raise some opportunities as far as demographics, it’s not the reason she’s a great candidate and not the reason to vote McCain/Palin in ’08 (and perhaps Palin/Jindal in ’12).

  • Maybe a few, but it might also give some women an excuse to not vote. If they already have hard feelings about Hilary not being on the ticket they may not feel obligated to support him now.

On a side bar I have heard some older men that are not happy with his choise.

  • no, i don’t, but i think mccain thought they might. any woman with half a brain who supported hillary clinton would not support this woman.

  • @BassGirl_1313 - which of her views and policy are horrible and what makes them so?

  • No. McCain is anti woman. He told someone to stop whining that women get paid less and he’s for outlawing abortion. Any woman who would vote for him is a fool.

    And I say that respectfully.

  • I hope not. I agree with those who say that both Biden and Palin were strategic choices.

  • @remingtonsteel - obama was been an illinois senator for seven years. he was elected to the u.s. senate in 2005. that is not one year. get your facts straight before you insult people.

  • i do think there will be female voters who will swayed to mccains side just because he picked a woman as his vp, i think however, that the number of these women will be insignificant.

i understand the power of having a candidate you can identify with, it was something that attracted me to obama a year ago, as an african american i immediatly identified with him, however a quick glance of his policies led me to realize that his agenda isnt that far off from any other democrat, and that he just put a new face on the front of he policy.

same goes with any undecided hillary voters of the female persuasion, i think you will see a slight bump in mccains numbers early, but eventually they will level out again after they realize that she embodies all the things they didnt like about mccain anyway

  • I think a bunch of “security moms” ears perked up when Sarah Palin was announced on Friday. That demographic is huge. She gave a smart, articulate (didn’t use the teleprompter!) and stirring speech on Friday. For a myriad of reasons – she will move independents and moderate undecided votes towards McCain now.

  • @rradiowar - I said one year before he started running.    Not one year now

  • NO!!!!!!!!

  • I think that many women voters will vote that way because it’s part of the change they desire while working within the social framework that they are used to. It isn’t all of the change at once and it’s been proven time and time again that though people want cahnge they don’t want it all at once. Also, as vice president it would give her room to be more feminine then Clinton.

  • It’s too early to tell. A lot of Hillary voters will vote for McCain, but they won’t tell anybody else that they did.

  • This election hurts my head.

  • Maybe a few, but not enough to make a difference. I would hope people,no matter WHO they vote for, are voting for that person because the trully believe that person will benefit the country best and do whats best for most people. The is NO WAY to please everyone. There are too many factors involved that when something helps some, it always hurts someone else. There are winners and losers at everything, you just have to keep at it and hope you win enough times to make a difference in your life.

  • no, i don’t think so…

gender should not be the point on who to vote… the democrats need to get over it! if McCain wants a women to be vice-president… let him. *rolls eyes*

  • Gender has nothing to do with my vote. She’s smart and will kick Biden’s ass in the debate. I cant wait to see her wipe the floor with him. Obama is being childish with the comments he’s making toward her. Saying she has no executive experience is first: completely irrational. and second: completely hypocritical. She has more executive experience than Biden and Obama put together!  Foreign affairs is her weak point but Im sure she will make up for that.

    McCain/Palin ’09!

  • So long as she is photographed in a swimsuit.

Then you’ll find a fair number of centrist men voting for her.

  • i think politics dont give women enough credit. women look into the issues just as men do. for that matter, minorities look into issues also not just vote for Obama because he’s black. i think that’s what McCain’s intentions were but I don’t think it will honestly work.

  • We’re fucked no matter who wins the presidency. The government hasn’t been for the people for such a long time, we’ve become used to letting the government do whatever they want. I’ve decided I won’t be participating in this election or any other until there’s real change in the way things are run.

  • no

  • I guess I don’t think like a lot of women? Because she’s not my reason for supporting McCain.

I *do* think she’s damn awesome though.
I just wish any women who vote for McCain because of the Palin pick are attracted to Palin by more than her sex.
“attracted to Palin by more than her sex”. OH boy. I hope you know what I mean.

  • @captain_jaq - I, a woman, want women to stop whining that they get paid less and suck it, and am vehemently anti-abortion. I guess I’m an anti-woman fool?

  • At least she’s a real woman, not a scary he-woman.

  • @charlottegeely - She hides it well?  I was just thinking that based solely on the names of her children.  Heh.  Her politics are conservative, but she’s got a wild streak in her if she’s going around naming her kids things like Trig and Willow and Track.

  • I’m not.
And I’m offended at the suggestion that women would be swayed to the opposite political party just because his VP pick is female.
    Way to be freaking stupid.

  • No. Well, I’m not anyway, I can’t really speak for anyone else. But forget getting the women’s vote, what this does do is give the press a reason to give McCain’s campaign some attention and call it “historic” for once instead of spending their time slobbering all over Obama. Which was something McCain really seemed to be in need of.

  • I’ve seen a move towards McCain from conservative evangelical moms who were planning to stay home.

  • I am originally a Hillary supporter, and nothing that McCain or Palin has to say will change my mind. Democrat until the end (or unless they drastically change the party’s ideas)

  • the ones who are women crazy, yes.

    But not me.

  • I think so. I saw on tv that middle aged women said they’d vote for McCain if he chose a female running mate.

  • All I know is I would never vote for him.

  • Some will vote for her because she is a woman.  Others will be put off by her anti-abortion stance.  Overall, I think she will do more to motivate the wary conservative voters than the female voters.

  • @HotMike -  :)

  • I’m a woman, and I’m insulted that he picked a woman.  Because it appears to have only been done for that reason.  I certainly wouldn’t vote for McCain (even if I could).

McCain: “Look at me!  I have a minority, too!  Whee!”

  • Some women may, some women may not.
If they vote for McCain just because he has a woman veep, then they’re weaksauce.

  • Only sexist women would vote for someone just because a girl is their vice. You’re suppose to vote because you like the beliefs of the candidate. Duh.

  • A woman who is pro-life and who advocates “intelligent design?”  Not a chance.

  • @empirexstate - Well, yes. In what way is it logical or right for women to not want equal pay for equal work? That’s like saying, “I am woman, I am less than, I deserve less for the same thing.” It’s asinine. Defend that, please, because I am eager to hear your argument.

I can understand being pro-life, but I personally feel that taking away a woman’s right to chose is anti-woman. But I can understand your point of view on that.

  • nope! mccain is really creepy….

  • women are too too too smart to do that.

  • me. partially. i like a woman on the ticket, but i also love sarah palin. if he had picked a different woman, who knows?

  • Honestly, I hope not. Not because I don’t like McCain (to be honest I’m still trying to make a decision on who I’ll vote for..we’ll see what the debates bring up). But I say that, because I would want women to be smarter than “Oh that guy has a woman as VP!” It doesn’t work that way. You need to pay attention to the candidate’s platform (as well as their peers they chose to surround themselves with) and base your decisions on how well they relate to your ideas, beliefs, etc and other such things. That’s like watching a football game and saying “Oh I’ll go for the red team cause I like that color.” I mean what a horribly stupid way to decided who you’re routing/voting for, it’s the fact that some women MAY actually do this that makes feel a little embarassed and ashamed for my gender.

  • I hope not.  It annoys me that people are talking so much about gender and race this election.  The idea that any voter would base their vote on either is nauseating.  The real issue is the candidate’s political platform.  I wish I believed that American’s were all smarter than that.  I know some aren’t…

    @benjimau5 - Well, aren’t you a cheery one?

  • SARAH PALIN????  IS HE CRAZY?

  • @Mac_Libureet - Do you know anything about feminism?  Many feminists believe in a woman’s right to choose and I don’t exactly believe Palin agrees with this idea in the slightest bit.  Also, many feminists support gay marriage along with a whole handful o other things that Palin is strongly against.  Just because she is a woman in the potential VP position does not mean she has the feminist vote by any means.

  • No, because he is evil.  I think the real reason why McCain had choose a female to be a vice president because she have NO experience.  Not because she is female!  Do you see, she is a bait to draw attention to why anyone wants a person lack of experience to hold such important job.  Just like Obama.  This is going to make people question why are we voting for Obama for.  Is he right for us?

  • no, because she is a woman WITH republican set of mind.

  • Some women would.

  • Sadly, some women will be drawn to the polls and vote for Palin because of the single fact that she is a woman. I’d rather those people not vote at all, but you can’t have everything your way — I’m sure there are people voting for Obama simply because he is black, too. Like someone said earlier, however, people who care will look up the issues.

I’m glad she was chosen. Over the past few days I’ve come across myriad accusations of hypocrisy toward McCain supporters who approve of her and, at the same time, point out Obama’s inexperience.

IMO it’s a shame that there is even a debate between the two. More people are debating about those two, when a debate over Palin/Biden would be more fitting.

Anyway, I still feel compelled to those debates LOL. So she’s only been a governor for 2 years and a mayor for 10. That’s more executive experience than Obama has, and she’s put forward things such as the Alaskan Gas Pipeline that extends through Canada and gotten corruption exposed and eliminated from her own party within Alaskan govt. She’s also chairman of the state’s Oil and Gas commission, commander in chief of the State Defense Force, has to deal with foreign affairs since Canada and Russia are very close, greatly reduced unnecessary state spending, reduced taxes, and owns a business.

  • Voting based on gender would be incredibly stupid.

So what you’re really asking is “Are women really that stupid”?

Or, will he draw enough of the stupid-vote away from Obama to save the country, in spite of ourselves?

  • I do not think that women are gullible enough to vote for someone just because they are female….I DO think however that he has made a good choice in Gov Palin…pro-life…conservative…has evidentially already crossed party lines and worked well with the Democrats in Alaska…McCain already had my vote but now I am even happier to vote Republican!!!

  • I believe so.

cause it’d just mean to them that they’re one step closer to women rights, and that they can soon have their first female president in the years to come.

  • there will always be people that ote just on principle instead of whats right… so yeah people will vote form them just because she’s a chick. Because people are sheep.

  • Well, I’m a girl  and I wouldn’t. nuh uh. I think I’m a bit more broad minded.

  • Well,  McLame or Mr. Potato Head does it again. It’s so obvious to all sentient beings that this was a knee jerk reaction. Appaulin selection! He should have opted for Christine Whittman who would bring a large resume to the front, not some dopey soap on a rope, who looks like a librarian that just won the lottery!  Having her picture next to his is not flattering to him, makes him look even more dusty. Everyone is talking about her experience, what, govenor of a state with the population of ten, or maybe 100 and that for only two yrs?. Mayor of a town of 6000, I KNOW HS. principals with more experience. As to her achievements, runner-up to Miss America, hunter and against abortion. Derfy McLame doesn’t realize you don’t go after the runner-up, for runners-up are the ones that lose. McLame cares nothing for the plight of average americans, just considers them as waste management.       DanaThera

  • @reed44 -  we’ve got to stick together!

  • Picking her was like adding a red accent to a black and white room.  I was going to vote Republican anyway, but now I’m a little happy about it.

  • I think it will definitely attract moderate conservative or conservative women especially.

However, women should not vote for another woman just because she is the same sex as tehy are. they should look at her politics.

  • No, I do not think it will get women voters.  Obama and McCain supporters will vote the same.  I am an Obama supporter before and nothing has changed even though I was for Hillary and wish Obama had chosen her for VP.  But what do I know.  I have read on xanga where some are going to support the third party now since McCain chose this VP because they feel she is not qualified to lead the nation, and with McCain’s health and age, that is a very real possibility.

  • I have no idea. I hope that no woman would be so foolish as to vote for someone just because of their gender, but because of what they stand for. That’s why I didn’t vote for Hillary- it would have been hypocritical of me to stand with her just because we’re the same gender and don’t share the same stances on the issues.

  • yep. i was waiting for someone to call attention to this. thanks! =D

  • I think he chose Sarah Palin because she is a wonderful person. She has five children and she is living through the typical American family struggles. (read recent news to find out). She has had more experience than Obama, no doubt, and I think she will be a great person to stand beside and to support John McCain through this election. That’s why he chose her!

  • Mostly the on-the-fence people.  Certainly it makes Mc Cain seem more progressive to those who may have had a very different, and opposite opinion of Mc Cain.

  • No. Every woman I know -including myself- is insulted by his choice. It’s like he thinks women are stupid enough to vote for him, just because he picked an inexperienced woman to run with him.

  • I donno if he’s reaching with this one….

  • That’s part of it, no doubt.  The main reason, however, is Governor Palin’s stance on the vital issues and the fact that she’s the only one of the four candidates with gubernatorial experience.  Unless, of course, you include McCain’s executive experience as an Admiral, a squadron leader in wartime… and the senior officer at the Hanoi Hilton.

In comparison, Obama’s experience is all legislative and little enough of that.  Biden is a long-time Senator and a sleazy trial lawyer type- noted for his snide, grandstanding performances at committee hearings.  Neither of them are veterans.

Governor Palin has already served to balance the GOP ticket and solidify the conservative base.  She has proven to be an excellent choice.  It also proves McCain’s ability to think outside the box and pick good people around him… a very important executive trait.
