Blonde or Blond
I was just reading point_of_no_R3turn’s site and she was covering this issue.
Which of the following is correct:
A) The blonde woman walked into the room.
B) The blond woman walked into the room.

I like brunettes.
Blonde
blonde
@deflate@revelife - Haha
Blonde. It’s a French thing. In french, everything has a gender. If we were referring to a man, it’d be “blond”, but since it’s a woman, it’s “blonde”.
Blonde – A.
Brunettes definitely are better.
BLONDEEEEE
trick question. It’s “The woman who dyed her hair blond walked into the room.” (Sorry for the 3 actual blonds I have just insulted)
The way “blond” looks annoys me. It’s like the British version of “bland”
BLONDE it is!
(but strangely, my spell check marks it as incorrect with the red line underneath it)
Blonde
I’m a brunette; it’s against my kind to know that!
Oh man… even if they didn’t know, they could just cheat off my site! Oh well. Thanks for the link, Dan.
Blonde is female, blond is male, isn’t it?
From what I’ve read, it’s one of the only words in the English language that uses the masculine/feminine forms and changes for the person (whether they’re male or female). So for a guy it should be blond, and a girl blonde. I try to use it like that.
Debbie Harry?
blonde it says its wrong, but I dont like how blond looks
A
Blonde.
I do it the French way :] female has an “e.”
Blonde
blondE
with the ‘e’ for woman and without for a man.
they both are correct. the original spelling has the e, but both are considered correct these days.
Did she walk into the right room?
wow i guess blond(e) is a sexist word. The feminists are taking over slowly. Pretty soon males will be driving cars and females will have carés, their haire will be done in a way that demands obedience from our inferior gender and we will be forbidden to use our toungs in their presence.
A is the answer.
@mileyfan08 - Yes, you’re correct on that one.
I’ve always spelled it blonde, but my spell check thinks blond is correct.
i like redheads
and it’s blonde
A)
@deflate@revelife - Oh my! The only thing I agree with you.
blonde
blonde
@mileyfan08 - Check out my site and you shall see. =)
I prefer seeing blonde for females and blond for males. Not that I care all that much.
Umm…yes?
A, since woman is feminine (last time I checked.) Yea for 6 years of French.
I think it should be blonde
Not sure…. I always thought it was one of those male/female things… or maybe American/British. …For once, I’m stumped by a grammar question D:<
I would say A - but I’m unsure if one is incorrect.
The dictionary tells me both ways are fine.
@leeleekicksass - Obviously a person with good taste.
@OurUnspokenTrust - ”blond/e” is French, which is why it has gender, but in English blond is the hair color, while blonde is someone with blond hair. I don’t understand how the feminists fit in. explain, por favor?
wouldn’t feminism prevent men from having cares and women from having “carés” and make everyone have “cars”?
@SuperEvilPopTart64 - I wish I could rec your comment. I totally would.
@hello_insanity - The word comes from French, so we add an “e” to make it feminine, or take off the “e” when it’s masculine.
If the word is neutral, the masculine form takes precedence.
Blonde.
the blonde walked into a pole
I prefer blonde.
Blonde. Blond is just too bland.
A blonde
I thought we did the whole French thing. Blonde is female and blond is male. Although they’re interchangeable now since no one seems to care about grammar anymore.
What would Jesus do?
its Blonde.
Lately my friends, i noticed, have been using the other blond. and it bothers me.
but, i shouldnt complain, i dont use the “u” for color.
Blonde for females.
Here’s what the Encarta dictionary has to say:
“When describing the color of somebody’s hair, blond is normally used of a person of either sex: Jane has blond hair. When used as a noun or adjective to describe somebody directly, blond is often used of a man or boy and blonde of a woman or girl: He is blond.Jane is blonde/is a blonde.”
I’m always cheating by going to the Encarta dictionary. XP
blonde is usually used when referring to women, and blond to men
however the person spelling the word wishes to spell it is correct,,,
i see the word brunette up there a couple of times,,, i prefer coal black myself,,, which ,,, well,,, i am in mexico by choice,,, hahahahahaha,,, i wonder why so many mexican women think they need to dye their hair yellow,,, i call it yellow,,, that eliminates the chance of misspelling…
i think a yellow haired mexican looks silly….
btw, ive solved the us economy crisis,, but ill be posting it on my site only… not as a comment.
i have the date of the disclosure posted now…
anybody can look,,, or not…..
i have same question simpliair to that. how do u spell the difference between a fiance and fiancee? male/female, thing, too? i think that made sense for blond/blonde.
good point
When I was younger I read something about blond being masculine, blonde feminine. Typically, though, I just bypass all the technicalities and use the latter.
Via a nifty Google search:
Blond or Blonde?
The words blond and blonde come from the French and follow somewhat the French pattern. Blond (without the e) is used to describe males, mixed gender, or uncertain gender. Blonde refers to women or female gender.
In modern use, blond is sometimes used for female as well as male, but blonde is preferred for female.
Both are correct and commonly used. But usually ‘blonde’ refers to female. ^ ^
blonde
blonde
On the other hand, I’m usually not concerned with how a girl spells her hair color as long as she isn’t bald.
blondE
Blonde woman
Blond man
But I dont think most people actually care, so it would not then matter.
Technically they are both correct, but I prefer blonde.
@point_of_no_R3turn - I cheated but thought that it was that way. Reading the other comments almost made me change it from now on.
A.
It’s a woman…. she’s blonde.
I think I only know that because I’m a natural blonde, and needed to know the right way to spell my hair color so I looked it up.
i prefer blonde. something about blond just looks crude.
@mileyfan08 -
yesssirrr.
I say. “The blonde woman walked into the room.” However, on firefox’s spell check, it’s says “blond.”
I think it’s stupid without the E.
@mileyfan08 - If you’re french, yes.
I asked Joe Biden. He said it was “blond.” I then asked him if FDR, as president, really got on television and explained how the stock market crash happened in 1929. He said certainly.
Blonde…that’s how I spell it.
with the ‘e’.
blonde is the right one!
Blonde with an E because that’s how they spell it in Playboy and if anyone knows blondes it’s his royal Hefness.
blondE. There IS an “e” at the end!
as stated by so many others: blonde
A
Either is acceptable, but if it was a man it would have to be “blond.”
“Blond” is gender-neutral while “blonde” is only feminine, according to my dictionary.
I always say blonde, but both are correct. Honestly, I never knew about the masculine and feminine thing. I say guys are blonde too.
That usually depends on where you’re from.
It’s “blonde.”
Blonde is a gendered word. Blonde for girls, blond for guys.
A
@OurUnspokenTrust - you cant dye your hair blonde or blond.
you have to bleach it.
blonde – femalesblond- males
A. Blonde
I think they are both acceptable – according to the dictionary i looked in anyway.
Blonde
Our 4 fathers gave their lives so that any blonde can walk into a room whenever she wants.
@saintvi - same.
I always have spelled it blonde, and I am a natural blonde and dye my hair mocha brown XD
blonde
either or…?
blonde.
I go with BLONDE.
But then, I am a blonde, and aren’t we supposed to be dumb or something like that?
blonde.
Per Merriam-Webster: “spelled blond when used of a boy or man and often blonde when used of a girl or woman”, so blonde it is!
A.–blonde is feminine, blond is masculine. That’s how I learned it, anyway, but with English deteriorating the way it is (someone’s actually pushing to make BEV a recognized and acceptable language! wtf?!), it wouldn’t surprise me to see it written either way.
I’ve seen it used both ways.
I was terrible as a speller when I was a kid…I use spell check now.
It’s blonde.
both are correct spellings but in english there are no gendered endings like in the romance languages. in french blond is masculine and blonde is feminine and in english we take both as correct alternates.
it’s a french word, so there is a masculine and a feminine. the correct usage is blonde woman, but blond man is the correct way to use the other spelling. blond woman and blonde man are incorrect.
BLONDE!!!!!!! IT’S BLONDE!!!!!!!!
a
One is female and one is male, for some reason.. blonde and blond. But “blonde” just seems to be more widely used anyway.
Blonde for women, blond for men.
Technically, A is correct. But common vernacular makes the two interchangeable these days.
It is blonde,it seems that everyone likes blondes whether they are natural or fake…
This is what my dictionary said:
The spellings blonde and blond correspond to the feminine and masculine forms in French. Although the distinction is usually retained in Britain, American usage since the 1970s has generally preferred the gender-neutral blond. The adjective blonde may still refer to a woman’s (but not a man’s) hair color, though use of the noun risks offense (: See that blonde over there?): the offense arises from the fact that the color of hair is not the person. The adjective applied to inanimate objects (wood, beer) is typically spelled blond.
So, the answer is blonde.
Blonde on Blonde? OK!
Ohhhh, you said “Or”
Sorry, my bad.
Blonde.
Blonde. Blond would be a man.
Blonde is female. Blond is male.
blonde = feminine
blond = masculine
… I think
Blonde, definitely.
A) Blonde
A
blonde
blonde.
They’re both correct. I’m pretty sure that it’s a regional difference.
The female bipedal primate walked into the room.
blonde
I’ve personally always spelled it as “blonde,” but I’ve seen blond used.
a.

I say blonde, but I heard it could be both blond and blonde.
Who cares? can we see her hooters?
@SuperEvilPopTart64 – lol that works
both
@writingsongsforBlair - it was meant to be satirical/sarcastic. I guess I didn’t convey that strongly enough. My apologies.
@OurUnspokenTrust - ….
If you’re serious,
well, you’re either a complete moron, or really insecure with your masculinity.
A.
blonde = person with blond hair.
get it?
i have seen it both ways but i prefer to spell it with an E at the end. the other way just looks wrong.
Seriously now?
I believe both are correct ways of spelling… depends on the wording of the sentence.
The blond woman walked into the room.
The blonde women walked into the room.
Ever look up the spelling for brunet?!?!?
My girlfriend is a brunet.
I’ve dated girls that are brunettes.
INTERESTING!
@sizzl - The fact that you are unsure of whether or not I’m serious shows to me how a) you’re completely set in your ways and think too highly of yourself.
B) For a feminist to comment on the insecurity of a male with his “masculinity” shows utter incompetence. It’s beyond laughable.
@writingsongsforBlair - heh not quite. I was just commenting on how silly it is that blonde is for females and and blond is for males.
I truly am a strong advocate for equal rights amongst all religions, genders, sexual orientations, races, heritage, etc. The thing is, I’m strongly against “balancing acts” or things that are set in motion to off set discrimination. Affirmative action for example.
I feel that if you think rights should be equal you should practice it as such and not try to “balance things out.”
But I’m sort of straying off the topic, I just simply think it’s silly to have blonde reserved for females and blond for males.
^^
I think you’ll be okay, pumpkin.
I’ll even let you spell it with an e if it makes you feel extra pretty.
As others have mentioned, this is one of the few words which retains its gender variance from French into English, thus masculine “blond”, feminine “blonde”. “Brunet” is sometimes seen for a male, though far less often than simply “brown-haired”. The only other English pairs I can think of are “fiance”/”fiancee” and “marquis”/”marquise”.
Of course, there are a lot of words that become a completely unrelated word when you add an “e”…
@Xetronic - Hahah maybe she just walked into the wall?
I know it’s B………but I like it ‘a la French’
@racquelle87 - I think at least 3 walls! =D
A
blonde for woman.
blond for man.
where does that leave transgendered folk?
@OurUnspokenTrust -
yes, its ridiculous, but its the same as husband being for men, and wife for women, stewardess for a woman steward, steward for a male steward, waiter/waitress, etc. I understand why differentiating between 2 words like this is the first step to discrimination and prejudiced, which then encourages stereotypes, but it doesn’t bother me because it’s just pointing out that one is a man and one is a woman, and at that level it’s not saying one is better than the other. the real problem is when they start associating/stereotyping blond (mas.) with “dumb jock”and blonde (fem.) with “bimbo”; that’s when the trouble starts, but that’s due more to one’s environment and upbringing. unless the human race becomes androgynous, we’re always going to differentiate between men and women.
technically, since american english doesn’t use the e’ to make things feminine, blond/blonde should be slang, because we add -ess to make words fem.
as a blonde I am fully aware of the predujice and stereotyping of blondes, so you are preaching to the choir, gurlfriend.
A.
this question is silly
