I don’t have one. If I did, I probably wouldn’t bother.
I might, if I had a house. But then again…what would be the point? The McCain signs in our neighborhood just get stolen.
To anger neighbors? Of course!
I’d put up so many signs, the fire marshal would need to tell me to take some down.
Maybe, if I had a lawn.
But I’d be afraid of getting my house vandalized.
mixed
yes i would put up both, then i’d have a love-hate relationship with the public
I would. Good thing I don’t live in Michigan, though, or I’d be giving someone a free pizza.
We’ve had so many Obama volunteers coming to our door…. hmm… maybe if we put 100 McCain signs in our yard, they would leave us alone. We’ve already voted people!
Grammy put a McCain/Palin sign in our yard. I don’t care one way or the other, I know who I’m voting for.
Always have, don’t have a yard now though…..we recently moved….
If I put an Obama sign in my yard my neighbors would love it.
I already did. But not for those clowns (McBama).
I don’t have a yard. That said, I’d never put a sign up even if I did.
Have one in my yard already. It’s been vandalized twice…put back together with duct tape and reposted. Take that.
Put up a NO ON PROP 8 sign!
I wear my Obama button
I wouldn’t. But that’s because I don’t care about the government.
probably not
Never! What’s the point in having a secret ballot if we’re going to put signs in our yard and buttons on our clothes? It’s nobody else’s business who I vote for. The only people I’d ever share that information with are my husband and daughter.
Haha. I think you so should do it. =]
Only if it were something I really, really cared about. Of all the political issues that have come up since I was about 16, there’s only been one that I cared enough about to want to publicize my opinion on the matter.
You should put an Obama sign in your yard, I think it would be kinda funny.
Maybe for local elections.
If I didn’t live in a dorm.
There’s an Obama campaign sign outside of the chem building at my school, covered in this goo that causes blistering and itching if you touch it. There’s a sign next to it warning about it. Ah chem students and their painful goos.
for a local election yes.
for a national one, no
my states already sown up, doesnt keep me from voting though.
Not really. Don’t want to get my feelings hurt if someone vandalized it.
YES!
to make people mad yes.
but I won’t do it just to show my support, cause I don’t want to die.
no there is no point since my neighborhood is like 99.9% Obama supporters. plus we done have yards we have sidewalks.`
@TakingxOverxMe - Precisely what I was thinking. Though, in my state, most everyone’s for my presidential choice…so it wouldn’t be too bad…
i sure would, and it would be the one you are featuring today !
I’d probably put it in my window. People put signs and write on their windows here at school. I like Sarah Palin, but this is funny: someone wrote in huge letters with the stuff that comes off with soap “SARAH PALIN SUCKS.” It’s right in front and everyone and their mom can see it when driving by or walking into the building.
a lot of the kids on campus steal McCain signs. Classy. All I want is a “No on 6″ sign.
I don’t have a yard of my own, but I did ask my mom at one point if I could take the spray paint and some cardboard to leave a Nader sign up in her yard…For some odd reason she told me no….
Nope…
This doesn’t really answer the question, but my mom overheard two white male co-workers previously from Arkansas complaining about their property value decreasing due to someone putting an Obama sign in their yard.
They called the cops.
One of the males even decided to move because a black man moved into their neighborhood.
Ridiculous.
For the same reason you have just put forth, yes.
Haha, that’s funny!
I wouldn’t do it and I have never seen one in a yard.
No.
For the same reason I don’t have an evolution decal on my car, I probably will never plant a political lawn sign.
Sure, there is some pride and satisfaction in such an outwardly display; but it would also make me a target. People care passionately about politics, and it’s not impossible for the asshole to come around and throw a rock through my window (or liklier: steal or damage the sign).
I thought about it for if nothing else the doctors office across the street has the opposite of the way I would vote… so just to mess with them
If I put up an Obama sign in my neighborhood, I think I’d be shot.
waste of energy, save it.
NO!
i would, but i’m scared that someone might attack me or my house because of my pick. there are crazy people out there! it can happen.
Definitely. Especially because we can’t vote. No one would really give a flying.
Possibly, if it was something I really believed in.
Yeeeees I would/do… but I’m from Australia so it’s not quite as…intense as where you are, so it’s not such a huge deal..
Vote Greens!
Only to tick people off.
I mean, that’s the only reason we hang Cubs flags out our windows… to annoy the neighbours across the street who are diehard Sox fans.
=D
I wouldn’t… unless I was in your situation.. then I might do it just to spite someone.
No one in Australia gives enough of a shit to put signs in our yard…not about politics anyway.
I love that we’re so laid back and don’t have to worry about crazy people and their overly political opinions. We HAVE to vote here. We go, usually boch a vote, go home, have a beer to toast that it’s over and we don’t have to worry about it for another four years.
I love my country.
My neighbors are all uppity and annoying…I’d put up 500 signs if it meant they’d report me for being tacky….and they would. I’m considering a tacky garden gnome as it is.
Yes
We’re not aloud to, I live in an apartment complex.
But there isn’t supposed to be any soliciting either, and we seem to get a lot of that from churches and Obama campaign people.
Apparently, only the McCain campaign people know how to follow the law. That and only they can read apparently. There is a GIANT sign at the entrance to the apartments that reads “NO SOLICITING”
I have one up on my corner lot. Fortunately, none of the jerks on the other side have removed, trampled, or painted it like they’ve done many, many McCain signs all over my work territory.
Nope.
I haven’t but sure.
No. It’s tacky. I know who I’m voting for and having a sign in my yard makes no difference. What? Is some undecided voter going to drive by and see my sign and decide to vote for my pick? Doubtful. And I prefer not to get vandalized. I respect and appreciate the secret ballot.
I have 2 in my yard
One on front door and one on the balcony for all to see. That’s me.
nope. i dont have one in my yard. we never put political signs up. my neighbors do though.
Haha..I would put 2…..a McCain sign and glue horns to it…….and put an Obama sign next to it.
Just kidding…I would just put up an Obama sign
Nope.
never. i think they look kinda tacky. my father has three put up in our yard. and one of them is for mccain. my very democratic, very elderly neighbor can’t stand it. and now i understand why my dad put it there.
Nope, don’t think I would.
I don’t think I ever would because I’ve never liked ANY candidate enough to do so.
Never, but I would consider putting up a fake one, Like (Chuck) Norris-(Jennifer) Garner ’08!
No, because I’d rather not start drama with the neighbors, even though I don’t really know who they are.
But this post amuses me. XD
But Dan, do people really change their minds about who they’re gonna vote for if they see a sign advertising this person’s name?
@Dare2BDiferentt - Yeah, but I didn’t post about *that*. It’s tradition.
@ClockworkBunny - So I should unsub, then write a post about it, then re-sub?
Hmmm…
@Dare2BDiferentt - Well, I never really unsubbed in the first place, you know? The post was just satire. Of course, unsubbing then resubbing would’ve added an element of performance art, but I was too lazy
Nope.
No, I would not. However, my husband tried to but I let him know of the HOA rules.
He then proceeded to PLASTER my car like a driving billboard. Nice.
I just think sometimes you don’t have to shout your opinion from the rooftop. I am passionate about it, but I don’t care have it everywhere. Some cars don’t even let me over now…so sad.
No, and when people do it to be spiteful I think it’s extremely rude.
Do you know what comes with making your neighbors angry? Mysterious key-like markings on your car, bags of animal waste on your front porch, toilet paper strung on all the foliage… although it probably depends on what kind of neighborhood you live in, I guess.
We would, but they’re $5 at the local campaign office and we didn’t have any cash handy, so we told them we’d put them on a busy street if they gave them to us for free. Then the signs were stolen off of the street due to my bad political sign karma.
Most definately not. I’d be fired!!!
I would. But then I’d have to negotiate, because my father is a McCain supporter.
I told him that we could have two signs, but he didn’t care.
I would have to say that I agree with saintvi. If you post who your voting for then it really isn’t a secret ballot. I think that people do that just to take sides. No wonder the country is split in half.
I have my McCain/Palin sign in the yard and the sticker on my car!
no.
We did have one… but our racist neighbors stole it.
I would if it was my yard. Obama Biden!
Yes.
Uh Dan, I thought you were voting for Obama? If so, why not put a sign up?
Yes, we do signs. I’ve got my McCain sign (4x stolen) and my No on 2 sign (embryonic stem cell research) up, and you better believe it pisses off my neighbors!
i would.. except me & my husband disagree on who to vote for… if i put one up i wouldn’t have to worry about the neighbors… world war III would take place in my house…
Cthulhu ’08.
Don’t settle for the lesser evil.
Sure, if it was a candidate that I loved. . .which would not describe either of these candidates.
If I had a yard, sure.
I don’t have a yard, but I have an Obama sticker/magnet on my car.
Yep if I had a yard – live in an apartment
Yes, if I had a yard.
i think i might, but my HOA might not approve of it…
No, I don’t have strong opinions for either candidate.
Most certainly if I had a yard. I’m not allowed to display political signs in my current apartment complex, but at my last place I put a sign in my window for ’06.
I’m having a hard time this political cycle because I can’t discuss politics at work or display anything that could influence clients. The joys of being paid with federal money….
I think it’s tacky.
My parents have completely different views than I do, So when they put up a Yes on 8 poster in the front yard, I started wondering if it’s considered vandalism if it’s on your own yard.
nope, for good reason too.
today i saw a car with a sticker for prop 8 and someone had written something nasty on their car door.
No, probably not. But I see alot of McCain signs. And I think that I’m going to talk my fiance into stealing them all tonight. haha!
Would…and DID! (McCain!) Aint’ votin’ for BO.
i think i would haha, my parents wanted to make their own lol
I live with my grandparents and my grandma did it, she doesnt care one bit. But she put up Obama and vote democratic signs…
nooo
Probably not…
Sure do! My son put up our Obama sign, and I put stickers on our car.
Doubt it.
I can’t because my house is technically a religious office. I have an Obama sign across the street, though.
I think the signs are useless.
Just fills up more landfills when they are thrown out.
I definitely would not do that. I am afraid of McCain and his followers. Also of fanatical activists. It’s enough for me to vote.
@firetyger - I have the same problem. And McCain/Palin signs cost five bucks apiece! But I maintain them at my house and around the neighborhood anyway. I’m not about to let the Obama Punks get away with that.
Hint: Put your signs in a place that’s not easily accessible from the road, but still visible to passing traffic. The O.P.s usually pick a time after dark to cruise around and take any GOP signs that they can jump out, grab and drive away with easily and quickly. Sort of like robbing a liquor store… which they likely do when politics doesn’t intervene! Besides, if Obama gets elected, they’ll be on easy street. (Pun intended!)
One other thing. I always respect the other guy’s signs if they do the same. If others take your signs and put up their own in it’s place, don’t feel disinclined to do likewise. These people count on our sense of fair play to get over, because they themselves have none. All the more reason why they shouldn’t be allowed power over decent people. A cause is defined by the worth of its adherents.
If I could afford a yard! I currently live in a small one bedroom apartment to care for my sick Mother… it is hard with working full time and taking care of her. I usually have to spend money on her medications because she can’t afford to buy them on her own. It Sucks! But I dod what I have to so….
I have one… McCain/Palin… nobody messes with it because we live in a very conservative part of town.
I have in the past, but I gave it up when I realized what a division it causes amongst neighbors. I can have my own opinion; I don’t need to force it on someone else with a piece of cardboard. If they really want to know why I vote the way I do, then we can have a discussion about it.
nope…probably won’t talk about who I voted for either
I already have 2 obama signs in my lawn.
not to mention 4 local election signs.
Maybe, but only if I was living on my own- don’t think my ma would go for an Obama sign in her yard when she’s for McCain.
Probably not. People tend to rip signs down without looking at them in my neighbourhood because they’re stupid kids.
Never! I don’t want that to be a stumbling block to my neighbors coming to know Jesus.
