Tramp Stamp – Does It Make a Classy Woman Trailer Trash?
I was just reading an article about women getting tattoos.
In the article, the author wrote “They are a mark of temporary insanity, instantly turning the classiest, chicest woman into trailer trash.” Here is the link: Link
One of my old friends on xanga said that her husband told her that when she got a tattoo on her wrist that she was communicating to other men that she was available.
Do tattoos turn classy women into trailer trash?
Comments (220)
I don’t think so… it’s just someone’s form of art.
Not if it’s tasteful and meaningful. Tattoos can be beautiful and classy.
I don’t think I’d take it that far…
Yes… unfortunately… for women, at least. I have a tattoo that I regret (I’m 22)
However, the famous can get away from this stereotype-
A lot of female porn stars have stars tattoed on them.
Personally, I find most tattoos incredibly unattractive and gaudy.
Also, recently I heard my father say “tramp stamp in the ramp” and I am forever scarred.
Well if it is a hula girl or a skull…..
I’m with Kate, I wouldn’t take it that far. Some people can pull off a tattoo. Personally, though, I prefer the good ol’ stick-ons.
But what about guys? Are there any stigmas attached to guys when they get inked?
i don’t think so.
Well, one time I saw a tramp stamp of the Nintendo Fire Flower. That lady was pretty much amazing in my book.
EDIT: Though my official stance on tattoos is pretty impartial. Being a mosaic, my skin is striped tan and white along my arms and chest, and honestly people give me crap for that, too. Basically anything that’s different is going to draw negative attention from someone. Best just to ignore people who act like fools. Magic marker your face, if you so please.
NO
@static_song - that is the ONLY exception.
I dont like them, girls think they’re cute just because “its a tattoo that people can see, but not necessarily”
Its useless, and as Vince Vaughn once said;
“Might as well be a bulls eye.”
That’s my opinion on it.
While I think tramp stamps are kind of trashy, that doesn’t mean the person is. If there is some meaning behind it, then it wouldn’t bother me as much.
Just depends on the tattoo, I think, but othewise, hell no! I also put mine where you can only see them if I want you to see them. I mean, if you got a tramp stamp that says “tear it up daddy”, perhaps? But the taboo of tattoos seem to have passed.
I think it depends on the tattoo. At some point, I’d like to get “Isaiah 52:7″ tattooed on the back of my shoulder. I don’t think tattooing a bible verse reference would make me trashy.
Wel,l I got a tattoo last year and I don’t consider myself to be white trash now. But if other people do, eh, whatever. I like my tattoo and that’s all that matters.
Yes…Tattoos are DISGUSTING…
no
this topic is ultimately a matter of opinion. some people find tattoo’s horrid and ugly and some people find the beautiful and meaningful.
all i have to say is “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”
depends on the tattoo(s) and the location of said tattoo(s)
It depends on the tattoo.
No.
Nahh
One of my old company commanders in the Army told me that when he was cruising for cheap women that if he found a gal with a tatoo who was smoking and eating fast food, she was an easy mark. He claimed it worked every time. You can take for what it’s worth because I’ve never tried that.
Is it necessary to add trailer trash to “tramp”?
No. The aristocrats back in the old age had tattoos. Get over it, society needs to move on.
I would say yes, but I have 3 girlfriends with tattoos and so I must say no.
Ehhh I kinda have to say yes. But really it all depends on what/where the tattoo IS.
See, I don’t like tattoos on women. At all. In fact, I don’t really like them on men either. The only kind of tattoo I like are small, concealed ones. (i.e. on your finger, your foot, your ankle, behind your ear, etc.) I also like really really small ones. For example, if I got one, it would be a very small star on the inside of my ring finger (the one where my wedding ring would NOT go).
Sooo yeah. I don’t even like the one in the picture you have.
not if it’s in certain locations on her bod and/or the design is not of the gaudy variety.
i always thought being trailer trash made people trailer trash
I think it depends on the tattoo, and the location of the tattoo. There are a lot of classy women who have tattoos, and I think as long as they hold some sort of meaning for a person, they’re not really trashy.
That chick who wrote that has no idea what tattoos are really about. Granted I will admit she is right that whenever a celebrity gets one people often copy them. However, the people who get tattoos without a celebrity endorsement are generally getting them because they have some connection to their life. I also think it is incrediblyunfair to just single out women and their tattoos.
I found it incredibly offensive that she degraded people who get their son/daughters name somewhere on their body. Getting the name of a significant other is one thing, because they can change, but your child will always be your child.
She claims that all women who get tattoos are making themselves into trash. I submit to here that some people do so for therapy. My own cousin uses tattoos in order to keep herslf from cutting. I hardly think she would qualify as “white trash”.
Although I do not have one myself I dance with and know many people who do. None of these people are close to white trash. In fact many have tattoos that have some sort of personal significance to them. They were most definetly not the result of some drunkfest. Tattoos require alot of thought and creativity. The wearer should understand that they decision they make is litterly permanant.
Let us also not forget the men and women who have tattoos for religious and cultural reasons. She could not convince me that the Moari Tribesor our own Natve Americans are white trash simply becasuse of their tattoos.
Seems to me that she is content with not doing her research and posting incredibly biased and wrong articles.
On a somewhat side note, people who have tattoos for reasons other than a celebrity getting one are generally not going to give two shits what somone thinks about them. I know that when I apply tribal face tattoos to my own face for dance, albeit they are not real, I get a total kick out of some of the looks I get.
I say it depends on what the tattoo is of and where it is located
I personally have no problems with tattoos but some could send the wrong impression
my first impression of people with tattoos is to avoid them but that’s before I get to know them.
My mom’s tattoo on her back looks stupid, it’s a bunny with an angel on the small of her back. Seriously if you PUT something there, at least make it sexy.
But in my opinion, yes in a way if they are dumb looking sure. LOL!!
Otherwise get them where people cannot see them. I am not a huge fan of tattoo’s, I do not have any and I never will, but I am not against them either.
Only if the tatto says “Tramp”, but I think getting a tattoo shaows a lack of wisdom so that would be a turn off.
@five11nation - I’ll second that.
By the way the lady’s tattoo is not giving such message in my opinion
No
I personally have nine tattoos. None of which are actually a ‘tramp stamp’. [The only one close enough to be on is still placed too high] but all but on of them can be covered if need be [for job interviews and what not] but they all have meaning to me. I love my tattoos though I know some people don’t like them. It can be trashy but not always.
Only if it’s on the lower back, the true tramp stamp location.
Ladies, just say NO to the tramp stamp!!!
I have one in mind for myself, as a gift for when I’ve lost all the weight I want to lose … (which may be never, and I can always change my mind) … Hubby doesn’t like the idea. However, I showed him what I had in mind, and what it meant to me, and how it reflected who I am, and he agreed, it would be okay. I’m more worried about allergic reactions to the dye or something, if/when I get it done. That’d be hell. LOL
Where I live now; I am one of the only women without tattoos. I have considered but my traditional Jewish roots keep me from them, though IF I were to get one, I would like something in Hebrew around my ankle…
I am not sure if it is trashy. It used to be an expression of rebellion but today its just a fad; a fad that will scar them for life.
I don’t think they’re a fad personally- at least not for myself. Your body is your own, and if someone chooses to decorate it with art, then so be it. All of my tattoos have personal meaning, and I know I’ll never regret any of them (I got my first when I was 18 and I still don’t regret it) because they all signify different times in my life that I’ll never forget and will never stop being important to me. I have 3 and I plan on getting at least 2-3 more, given one for each of my children. All are well placed and I can choose to cover them up or expose them based on the situation I’m in. If this makes me trashy, so be it, but people who matter to me don’t think it is, and neither do I- and that’s all that matters in my opinion.
The only way tattoos are going to be acceptable for women
is if MORE get them.
Tattoos are only this terrible “taboo” thing the less we get them. . .the more we, particularly women, refrain from having them.
To fight this, more tattoos should be encouraged, not less.
To those against tattoos?
Little respect I have for you. . .
tattoo artist is some people’s livelihood.
If people love their body so much they want a Living reminder, why I think that takes an act of Faith and Confidence–and should be held in awe.
Not so easily “disrespected”
would a man be considered trailer trash if he had tatttoos?? I believe that if done right it can be a beautiful piece of art work..
Do Men have tramp stamps???
Only if this classy woman is a secret trailer trash tramp.
Depends on the girl, where and what the tattoo is.
What one person decides to put on their body, no matter what it is, or the reasoning behind it, is no one elses business.
I have always wanted a few tattoo’s, and, as I am a minor, will get one as soon as I turn 18.
My parents do not care once I am 18, as they both have tattoos that mean a lot to them. My dad has three, one of a classic Jethro Tull stance, one of a cheetah paw slashing through the skin, and on of a Indians baseball character. My mom’s is a butterfly on her shoulder and she is going in February to get a caterpillar and cocoon done.
The tattoo I want to get first will be an elephant with it’s trunk pointed upwards, it will go on my arm.
No. Do we ask the same questions about men??
I once knew a girl who got a tramp stamp….OF HER NAME. It pretty much solidified my opinion on that right there.
I don’t really see how you can get a valid answer on this since most people are pretty judgemental and 9 times out of 10 you will not get many agreeances. It’s a matter of opinion. However, it doesn’t really matter what you do with your body or your life, you will be judged. This is America, people. My personal opinion, though, is if it’s not hurting you, don’t worry what I’m doing.
it’s all about perspective. what kinda tatt and where is it at?
What on Earth!? Tattoos are as classy as the women who wear them. I’ve never thought of them as having any overt sexual connotation.
As long as its something meaningful and not something you randomly got done drunk, then no.
Xo
It depends on the tattoo, the location of the tattoo, and the woman. Personally, I would rather not see my girl having one, but if she does, it would preferably be classy and in a location that only I know about.
of course not. thats like me saying that the man who said that was a total retard.
If you get a “tramp stamp” the one on your lower back, you can’t have an epidural ergo I will NEVER do that, but almost everyone has a tattoo these days – really the whether it’s trashy or not depends on the quality of the tat.
nah it doesn’t. again, just another warped mindset of the narrow minded fools.
no, its just a form of art and expression
That’s a harsh article, but people are always going to disapprove of something. I have 19″ angel wings tattooed on my back.
TOTALLY NOT!
Let me first start by stating that after reading the article I have come to the conclusion that the author is a complete cunt.
That being said tattoos only make me think of sex with the wearer if she is even remotely tappable. Trailer trash? Well there sure are a lot of stupid tattoos out there. Imagine getting photos from a girl I was trying to seduce of her new ink “Do you like it?”
Ummm… we don’t talk much anymore.
I have no tattoos, no piercings and I was quite in the thick of it having been 18 in 1994 in NYC.
Whatevs…
it depends. . . . . . . . .
@queerflux - Would I ever love to see them.
In person.
@Pyrra - No, she was a cunt.
No, tattoos don’t make a classy woman trashy. Dressing in trashy clothing to show off said tattoos and having no regard for who you jump in bed with makes you trashy.
@benjimau5 - who was a cunt?
@Pyrra - The author of the article? I’m sorry, I get confused easily. Sometimes I lose time.
@benjimau5 - me too. i’m really slow >.< but i meant her friends husband was a retard for saying that cos he is the one who said that.
No, tatoos have become such the norm and not as rebellious as they once were since about every debutante even has one now. But, no girl should get one on her back because those are officially “tramp stamps” now and you will look like an idiot not necessarily a tramp.
Yes, most definitely. Tattoos on women are a badge of skankiness and/or poor taste in the vast majority of cases. Chicks with tatoos are Walmart grade.
Generally, tattoo on lower back + 1 facial piercing is a jackpot for picking up women I’ve heard / seen.
But there are a lot of non-tramps with tattoos so I don’t really think so.
I have 2 tattoos and I don’t think that tattoos automatically make a classy woman into trailer trash, it depends on the tattoo. Tramp stamps, almost 99% of the time though, will make you look like trailer trash, especially since most of them are hideous tribal designs that mean nothing to the person, they just turned 18 and wanted a tattoo.
No, it doesn’t make her “trashy,” nor does it signal she is available. When I walk into a bar, I don’t see a man with a tattoo and think, “hey! I bet he’s single!”
If men can get tattoos without anyone thinking any differently of them, they shouldn’t think differently of a woman who does it.
no. it depends on the tattoo and where she puts it on her body.
I disagree for the most part - but some tattoos do make a person look trashy/trampish.
Personally I think a tattoo or 2 happens to be sexy
The tramp stamp carries with it a large amount of suggestive sexual innuendo. Whenever people see a woman with the mark on her lower back, they’ll automatically assume about her sexuality. But assumptions are just assumptions. Never judge a cover by its cover. What makes a tramp is actions and not tattoos.
Personally I don’t like them on anyone. That’s why I don’t have one. It’s not up to me to decide someone’s morality based on something so stupid though. It’s more likely to be just lack of foresight, peer pressure or alcohol than “trash”.
Why was this post time stamped?
I am not a big fan of tattoos.
totally depends on the tattoo. same goes for guys.
I didn’t know that “trailer trash” equated “available”.
No, not anymore. But the trend to get one is over, isn’t it?
If Carmen Electra got a tattoo, she’d still be hot.
Though I’m not sure that answers your question.
But then again, my sister has a tattoo, and two kids, lives in a trailer with no power and a lazy boyfriend who doesn’t have the money to marry her because he spent it all on his recent divorce.
But I don’t think the tattoo started that all.
First of all do you realize as of this moment, you got 81 comments in 6 minutes? Crazy.
Second of all, how does a wrist tattoo communicate singledom? Unless the tattoo says, “I’m single, take me now” which to me is mightly long for a wrist tattoo.
Thirdly, depending on where and of what, I don’t think tattoos on woman are trashy if done tastfully. The “tramp stamp” is definitely more trashy than others.
i personally think no, it doesn’t imply anything about a person, but unfortunately, there are stereotypes and judgments that go along with women with tattoos. =( on the flip side, im sure there are judgments on men with certain tattoos as well.
@mightymarce - I don’t think it’s a gender question.
@nattata - Why not? We’re asking if a tattoo on a woman, no matter the design, makes her trashy. What about on a man? Does a tattoo on a man automatically make him white trash? If not, why the double standard?
as long as it’s not a butterfly above your ass, a cartoon character in a visible place, or stars of any sort…and as long as it’s meaningful and tasteful, I see nothing wrong with tattoos…I also believe in making sure your body art is symmetrical(eg–I have a bird on the inside of each wrist, a chest piece with 2 roses in the middle, a phoenix on the back of my left shoulder blade, a treble clef on the back of my right, a peace sign on my right shoulder, and I’m about to even it out with an oruborus on my left shoulder)
gina
I think certain tattoos would make a woman look trailer trash.
I don’t think stars make a chick trailer trash.
I think tattoos are unattractive on women. If you’re going to get one, get one in a place than can be hidden. I see so many tats at the waterpark and they just look trashy.
nope…im doing fine with the one on my butt…(JK i dont have any tattoos…)
but really i dont think it makes a classy women trailer trash…
what makes people trailer trash is their input and the way they live their life.
not just their appearance (clothes or tattoos)
I don’t care for them on anyone myself, but I don’t think you can go quite that far with calling it trailer trash. Jill, my 24 year old daughter that lost her right leg in a horseback accident, wants to get a tatoo of a horseshoe on her left scapula where the horse kicked her and broke her scapula. We are holding her off mainly because we don’t have the extra $300 that it will probably cost. She wanted that for her birthday Oct 8th. Something like that I don’t think is so bad, it’s the tatoo’s all over the body that are just …well…gross! She wants the horseshoe with the date of her accident below it. I can see her point wanting it, but I wouldn’t do it if it was me.
While I don’t have any tattoos…….I think they can be beautiful…..Saying they cheapen the woman is rather old fashioned thinking that is on the decline…..
Where did this “Tramp Stamp” originate from? To my knowledge, I thought it was on the back (in the midriff area) of a woman. That means she’s a tramp? No, the girl that wears a bikini top to the mall is a tramp.
Also, I wouldn’t get a tattoo just because 20 years from now, my mind would have matured and I don’t won’t to regret anything I did.
Have you notcied some fat chick or some fugly chick with the Playboy Bunny on her back? I see that a lot over here in Los Angeles
I don’t see anything wrong with tattoos on women (either in the regard of being “unclassy” or “unbecoming”).
If a girl has a tattoo(s) that are well done and have personal meaning to them, what’s wrong with that? There’s a good chance I’d find a girl with sleeves sexier, rather than less attractive.
But yeah, tramp stamps, in my opinion, are usually dumb (you can include in that list meaningless tribals, tiny butterflies, and symbols that you had no clue what they meant before thinking it looked cool flipping through designs in the tattoo shop).
Personally, I probably won’t be getting a tattoo anytime soon. But that’s more because I really have no artistic side, as well as no desire to try and display one.
@greenbird321 -
I forgot to include most cartoon characters to my list of tattoos that are just dumb. Good call.
no my girlfriend has a lot of tattoos
why is it ok for a man… and trampy for a woman. Sounds like a double standard to me.
i have my initials on my ankle and i have my name on my lower back. i had no idea the lower back tats were called ‘tramp stamps’ until after i got it. but i have no regrets. i dont think that tattoo=tramp…im certainly not a tramp and i know plenty of other women with tattoos who are the classiest women you’ll ever meet. society created that stereotype.
by trailer trash do you mean consumers?
@mightymarce - Sorry, that’s what I meant. There is no double standard. If one thinks tatoos give a woman a trashy touch, one probably doesn’t think it’s classy on a man.
Whatever. I’m so tired of people saying women with tattoos aren’t classy. Fuck a bunch of y’all. And those of you who regret them, you’re just dumb. Tattoos are pictures that says things about you. Yeah, I can understand how a big tat of a big hairy penis can look trashy. But having pictures of small stars or what have you isn’t trashy looking at all. I think it speaks volumes of individuality.
I think it could…I dont think it is wise healthwise anyways.
I think it depends on what you get and where you get it.
Im at a crossroads with my tattoos.. I have a quarter sleeve that I dont particularly like any longer( I was going through a rough patch in life). Now I feel like I need to decide do I finish the sleeve or just leave it as it is and call it a mistake.. Trashy….perhaps. It is what it is I guess.
@whataboutbahb - well, there is ONE cartoon tat I’m getting…if you watch Futurama, you’ll understand the reference…you know the tattoo of Bender’s head that Fry has on his ass in the first Futurama movie?…yea, I’m getting that(same place, where no one can see it)…it may seem silly, but Futurama has to be the best cartoon out there…what other cartoon can make you cry at the end of a handful of episodes, honestly?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnpU6PqKA5A
Instantly.
It depends. Tattoos don’t really scream “SINGLE AND EASY!” to me.
You want to know what turns women into trailer trash? Living in a trailer park with some alchy named Jimbo.
@Beaver_Regnew - 1000% agreed.
I don’t like tattoos on women or men. It’s make them look cheap and belong to some kind of gangster. However, I don’t believe it’s a sign of being available for women.
i do think the description applies to a lot of people with tattoos. i know a lot of people with stupid tattoos, who walked into the place after they turned 18 and picked out some cool looking dragon on the wall. they regret it. i, however, wanted my exact tattoo for 3 years before going through with it, and it’s been almost two years and not a day of regret.
Trailer trash is not the right term.
What? You think it’s trashy that I have a tattoo of a rose on my boob and Mickey mowing the lawn on my lower abdomen!?
I’m joking! I do have a tattoo though. No, I don’t think it looks trashy as long as women keep them in places that they can be covered if necessary.
“she got a tattoo on her wrist that she was communicating to other men that she was available.”
This is so illogical… at least on the surface. Availiablity is something that changes, tattoos are something that don’t, therefore they cannot be related.
But then in practice it might be true, because reality is broken.
if we are talking solely about the ‘tramp stamp’, no I don’t think they are very classy, but I don’t think tattoos on women in general are a bad thing. I have a tattoo, but it’s on my shoulder and it’s not something people get to look at on the regular. Personally, if it’s tastefully done…
All of my tattoos are tasteful. I have five of them, and love every one. They are a form of art…and if someone thinks they’re trashy, I feel sorry for them. I’m not trailer trash, and I’ll have you know I have a wonderful guy who is successful, kind, handsome, and loves me for more than just my appearance…but he LIKES my tattoos. SO THERE!
Depends.
I figure, if’s your body do what you want with it….
I plain on getting a very feminine tattoo at some point in time..
but if you want to get a dragon on your neck…go for it…
you only live once!
Of course not. That is ridiculous. Tattoos have nothing whatsoever to do with “availability” or sluttiness. Anyway, a tramp stamp is specifically a lower back tattoo, but it still doesn’t indicate trashiness.
It depends on the tattoo.
that’s way too broad a judgement for someone to make.
there are many different types of tattoos. true, some are trashy. but some are forms of art.
and if a woman is an intelligent, tasteful person before she gets a tattoo….she’s still going to be the same person afterward. a little ink doesn’t change someone’s identity.
<3
No
Wow… does this mean that I’m about to turn myself into… “trash”?
I am planning on getting a tattoo in December, or shortly thereafter. However, mine will not be in the traditional “tramp stamp” location on the lower back.
@Alyxandri - Thank you. I feel the same way. The only tattoos I plan on getting are ones that I find to be meaningful, beautiful and accentuating to my natural beauty. I’m very picky.
The best one I saw was a girl who had the biohazard symbol near her pantyline. How considerate!!
well…it depends.
i’d say yes.
That’s silly.
it’s only a sign of slutty-ness if it’s on the small of the back. that is the REAL tramp stamp. i mean honestly, think about the girls you know who have a tattoo there =__= unless it’s of like, Baby Jesus, a tattoo in the small of a girls back is a bit trashy.
i love tattoos, and i know a lot of girls who have them. very few of them would be considered trashy in any way.
OH NO THAT IS WRONG! IF THEY WERE TO WATCH AN EPISODE OF THE KAT VON D SHOW OF DIFFERENT PEOPLE GETTING TATTOOS AND THE REASON WHY, its a totally different story and there are emotional reasons why they get tattoos (maybe not for all but some yes like the customers on the show). WHOEVER WROTE THAT MUST NEED SOME ASS. lmao!
It depends on the tattoo itself and placement.
My wife and I do not have tattoos other than the many surgical scars on my body which I paid a lot to get.
My roommate will not date woman who has a tattoo. Unfortunately, I think tattoos have a bad rep. I love them. I still want to get one. Appropriate tattoos on women are great, but unfortunately there are a lot of slutty women out there in general and especially with tattoos.
The author of that doesn’t seem to know what a tramp stamp is. It isn’t just any tat, it is a lower back tat.
Depends on what it is and where. I don’t associate tattoos with classiness, but a tattoo wouldn’t automatically make her trailer trash, either.
The only tramp stamp I know of is on the lower back. Other than that, if it’s easily covered[there's a time and place] it doesn’t seem like a problem.
In addition to asking all your questions, why don’t you add your opinion/answers to the questions you ask? I doubt you really care about our opinions, anyway.
No, I think a tattoo can be classy. But with everything else, tattoos can be aesthetically pleasing or not, and that is what is in the eye of the beholder. Compare it to say, someone’s house. One person may like a picket fence, another may not. It’s largely simply one’s own preference. Painting a house plaid may be ugly to most people, but to someone out there, it may be beautiful. Tattoos in my opinion, are the exact same way.
I think “tramp stamps” are really sexy because it’s usually the pretty, sexy girls that get them and it’s that association with pretty and sexy girls that makes me like them. But, I have seen them on what I would consider less than attractive girls, and it just makes them seem like they’re trying too hard. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course, but sticking shiny brand new rims on your old rusted 1970′s Plymouth doesn’t make it look any better.
location, location, location!
Not at all, but the three stars tattoo is so common
i dont believe so, i have what you would call a “tramp stamp”.
but it is beautiful and meaningful to me, it is a sunset, with my daughters footprint on it.
i think the way you carry yourself has more to do with it then tattoos, i mean if you cover yourself from head to toe with random, meaningless tattoos, then you might be considered trashy.
I’m not a huge fan of tattoos, but I think it really depends on the subject matter, size, and location of the tattoo.
Depends on the tattoo and its location. I never heard that a tattoo on one’s wrist indicated availability- I always heard that that’s what one on the lower back meant one was “easy,” hence the term “tramp stamp.”
it just makes them look slutty, unless it’s in an inconspicuous place , like on their……………..oh never mind !
I’m getting at least three tattoos. The first one, I’m going to create an idea and have my best guy friend of ten years draw for me because he’s an amazing artist. The second one will be a portrait of my best friend somewhere on my arm. The third one will be a tribute to the three people who have most inspired me in life.
Not generic, meaningless tattoos.
Not in the least bit. I have two tattoos, and am a well educated and well rounded woman. Hardly trailer trash or hood rat. It used to be centuries ago that the wealthy were the only ones (other than sailors) in western civilization that donned tattoos as a sign of affluence.
I don’t think so at all. Tattos can have strong meanings behind them. There a form of art. And for everyones info….I think that girls with tattoos are attractive
so tattoos only do that to women, then?
@stargazerlillikat - hahaha
The way that article read, it sounded to me like she was calling any tattoo on a woman a “tramp stamp” – but that’s not the accepted usage.
I find it terribly narrow minded to say that any tattoo makes any woman look cheap. Tattoos are like anything else – you can find ones done well and ones done poorly. And really, who cares what someone else does with their body anyway?
Not really, I have 3 of my own and plan on getting a 4th…all in well hidden yet respectful/tasteful places in my opinion. I think it depends on the tattoo and where it’s placed, especially if it’s at the tramp stamp spot. I don’t care if you thought it would “look cute there”, EVERYONE knows what a tramp stamp is and what it symbolizes so don’t get mad that people may judge you when your tat is peeking above your jean line….with your G-String.
Oh my gosh – This is the most stupid thing i ever read. NO it doesn’t. What a judgemental world we live in.
I think it’s just men feeling intimidated by women who sport tattoos. Tattooing used to be a predominantly men thing and women have invaded the best bastions of masculinity.
it depends on the size & the picture. if i were a guy, i personally prefer a bare body. it looks clean and sexier that way.
@Drakonskyr - GOD I WANNA MEET YOUR DAD.
Funny you should do this post because I, myself, have been thinking about getting a tattoo. I think they can be beautiful. I would like to have a burgundy butterfly. I think what intrigues me about them is their “transformation.” It serves as a great reminder, at least to me, that only God can transform hearts, like butterflies! I come from a family who does believe in tattoos so you can imagine this would be going against the grain, rofl, but as I get older, the braver I get, rofl! The good news is that God looks on the “heart” not the “appearance” of man…Thank goodness for that,
A tramp stamp goes on the lower back (big), ankle (small – upside down loL), or of course the forehead… other tats aren’t trampy imo
Personally, I think a profound/personal tattoo or two in the right area can be lovely (like Angelina’s coordinates for her children). But, unless you’re like Rihanna and tattoos are a part of your style (although I wonder what they will mean in 20 years), a lot of tattoos can look a little wrong on a women. But that’s just how I see it.
It’s possible to get them and maintain a classy status, but more often than not they make the girl look absolutely trashy.
Example: Angelina Jolie pulls it off. Amy Winehouse, disgusting. (Then again, I think that last one is probably also for other contributing reasons.)
NO I DO NOT THINK SO. You may think I am because I have tats and I am from the south. Well I really don’t care what you think about me. My tats make me happy and that is what matters.

I got a tat, but it doesnt make me a tramp. People can just be morons. I wish my tat did make me available though LOL
I think it all depends on where she puts it and what she decides to get. Although I do think “tribal tattoos” on the lower back is kind of reaching the trashy part..I really have no clue how that trend started.
Anyways-I have one and no one would suspect that I would since its on my side hip bone-which is always covered up with any form of full clothing-and it represents my country [which has a special meaning behind who i am,where i come from, etc..]
unless the tatoo itself is trailer trashy, the lady wouldnt be trailer trash, just less classy and chic
The person that wrote the article is pushing their opinion a little too much. It’s rather ignorant to say that tattoos on women are all tramp stamps and that the woman is not classy. That’s just stereotyping like saying all black people steal or all asian people are smart. If someone wants to do something upon their body that is their own decision and should not render them unclassy. Some tattoos actually are really meaningful and classy. It all depends on the place and what the tattoo is. As long as the tattoo isn’t something stupid that a young teen gets because they think it’s the cool thing than it should be fine.
i dont think tattoos in woman signifies trailer trash. some do it for the pain, some do it for the art. besides why only criticize woman? what about guys? are tattoos suppose to symbolize manliness? i saw a guy at 6 flags once, he has a tattoo over his whole upper body (from neck to waist including his arms) its in a blue greenish background with Flintstones characters all over the place — YES! fred, barney, wilma, betty, dino, and even their kids. it wasn’t manly! at first i thought it was one of those muscle tea with a very weird print until i realized the middle age guy doesn’t even have a shirt on. does that make him manly? one word came to my mind “OUCH!!!”
Like Others have said its a matter of opinion. I have 3 so far…my Husband and i each have the Konji for Love on our arm, cause we met in japan…and he got me a yellow rose tat for my bday one year. I think as long as your not using them to sell yourself then its not trashy. they are a way of expressing yourself.
My tats,I currently have four, all have a special meaning to me. I dearly love them because you can lose pictures and momentos but you will always have your tat. People can believe or think what they want about my tats.I don’t care. They are beautiful works of art that just happen to be displayed on my body. As for the author who proclamed they made women into trailer trash…it is a shame that a tattoo can’t make her into a human.
One person commented that rich and famous can get away with the stigma…NEWSFLASH….I am neither rich nor famous but I can get away with it as well because I don’t care what other people think or say.I only have one person to please and that person is me. I do not regret my tats and I plan on getting more. People need to stop worrying about what someone else is doing and more importantly what someone else might think. Live for yourself.
I don’t think it does. It would depend on what the tatoo is though. If I get it done( which I’m considering) it is because I want something oviously expensive that no one can take away from me.
Absolutley not. It completly depends on what it looks like and where it is!
It doesn’t turn them into trailer trash, but may make them appear as such.
Unfortunately, it’s hard to get your mind off of, when the tattoo happens to be above her booty, causing you to look. (That’s the Tramp Stamp, by the way.) Funny enough, any tattoo that kind of makes you want to look at and below the tattoo does seem like temporary insanity to me. Haha!
depends on where the tattoo is.
No.
Stop being so conservative.
CHANGE!
YES WE CAN!
of course not. as long as the marking is not one of hate (i.e. swastika), why would anyone hold a tattoo against someone?
to each his/her own style…
That’s a tough one. I think for me personally it does detract a little if I see a tatoo. It just looks un feminin if I may say so.
Some men will always see a women with a tattoo as being easy.
I thoroughly encourage tattoos, as long as they’re not cliche meaningless shit.
I like mine. It represents my daughters and my heritage. I don’t think it is trashy. I have seen tattoos that I think are trashy, but that doesn’t mean the person is.
Yea, pretty much….
I can’t wait to get a tramp stamp. BTW, be careful what you say about them. My uncle’s boss had one and they found out right AFTER him and his buddies had finished insulting them.
I don’t see anything wrong with having a tattoo.
Tattoos have meaning to their owners, and we should respect that.
Tattoos are like love- they both last forever. (x
It depends on the person and the tattoo. Some are cute, (however I’m biased because I have two).
I don’t think so, no.
a tatoo is just something that represents who u are. personally i love them i have 25. people dont get tats cause they scared of rejection.
-Kelly-
So you’re supposed to get rid of your tattoos when you are taken?
It depends on the tattoo. I mean…if she’s got a huge 69 tattooed on her back, yeah, she’s gonna look like a tramp. But little stars on the wrist…no biggy.
It really depends on the tatoo. Lets say someone’s mother died and they wanted to have there name in a cross 2 remember her by. Would u call her trailer trash? But on the other hand if someone had a tatoo that said something like “hot chick” then yea they could be called that. It really depends on the type of tatoo.
~jenn~
I don’t have a tatoo and don’t desire one but that’s rediculous that saying a tatoo changes ones character – just silly dan
My mom used to work for a plastic surgeon. One of their most popular procedures was tattoo removal. They just don’t look so good as we age.
I don’t like tattoos, personally. Not me…not my body. What other people do is their business. But I think tramp stamps are pretty funny. My husband’s former mistress had a big tattoo on the small of her back. Yup. Nothing says ho like a tramp stamp
I mean, if it’s right above your chest… or in the lower-back area, yeah.
Depends on the actual tat, as well.
Generally speaking, I don’t like tattoos on women. Of my three sisters and I, I’m the only one who doesn’t have one. I know that they each got their tattoos for their own reasons, and that’s fine. I just don’t care for them, especially when, say, at a formal function where formal dress is required, one can SEE them. Kind of ruins the overall effect of classiness, in my opinion. But, that is just MY opinion. Your mileage may vary. And of course, there are always exceptions to the rule.
As for men, I think it just kind of depends on the guy. I’ve seen a few really nice ones on some guys, and for some men, being all “tatted out” looks good. That said, however, I’m really glad my sweetie doesn’t have any ink. I like him just the way he is, artwork-free.
tattoos are a work of art; it depends what kind you get.
if you’re getting something to “be cool,” i agree that is completely idiotic
however, a lot of people get a tattoo for some kind of remembrence of someone who passed away or whatever. its different.
and what makes females any different from men? I’ve seen a lot of trashy looking tattoos (like those dumb armbands) on iron pumping men.
tattoos are only hardcore enough for men? thats just plain sexist.
it really do depend on the tattoo.
My mom has a “tramp stamp” but it actually means something. Along with my sister. She has one but it has meaning. and its far from “trampy”
Yep!
If you are referring specifically to the popular kinds of larger tattoos, like butterflies, etc, that are located on the lower-back/upper butt and peeks out at the whole world from a bare mid-waist area, that is exactly what it is; a Tramp Stamp. Just about ANY guy will tell you that when he sees a woman with that kind of tattoo the main thing that a guy starts thinking is what the rest of the tattoo down further on her butt looks like, which then turns to lust and the thought of fornicating with her (and shame on that Christian man who allows his mind to wander on down that road, by the way). If that is what the woman wants just about every guy to think of doing with her when they see her walking down the street, then the term “TRAMP” sounds very applicable. If they think or say otherwise then they are very deluded. Ladies, think very, VERY carefully about it BEFORE getting it if you want respect from men. For the most part a Christian woman would never want to have that kind of “advertisement” on her body for the rest of her life. It definitely does NOT honor God in any way.
here are my definitions of tattoos in correlation with their location:
waist, hip or lower back—tramp (sorry but its true)
upper and lower arms—masculine (prison)/butch (brings sexuality to question)
upper back, shoulder blades—sober mistakes.(one day you’ll wake up and really be glad you can’t see it
wrists hand—feminine bohemian. only good if you don’t work in an office. (if they are names, that is just nonsensical)
stomach/thighs—good if your job doesn’t require minimum clothing(stay toned or words my ‘over lap’)
legs, ankles— this is femme, all my homosexuals know what i mean.
feet—(did you run out of space) only a place they can be hidden in the winter. these are the scared tattoos. they might regret it so they put them some place insignificant
chest—either you were in prison or your ‘boo’ was/is. wither way BBBAAAADDDDD MOVE. you will regret it when relatives don’t really know what to say to you when you wear a low cut blouse and your chest reads ‘One Love–Jason’
neck—why? why? seriously. this is the stupid tattoo, for that one moment in life that you forgot that you were aspiring to greatness and woke up with a note on your neck. or worse ‘R.I.P. BUGZ 8*17*06′
whats that hun? you wanna know why your co workers don’t like to make small talk? well it might be because they think you are either going to cause them phyical pain, get some to cause them physical pain, rape them, ‘heal’ them, or try and get them to do what you did.
all bad ideas.
Absolutely not. The way a woman carries and conducts herself, in my view, determines whether or not she is “trailer trash.” Anyone who thinks that a woman is a tramp by virtue of a tattoo is obviously still struggling with the concept of walking upright.
Remember the old saying, “You can’t judge a book by its cover.” Words to live by.
I have to ask; Is Angelina Jolie ‘trailor trash’ or a tramp??
my only tattoo is a crown of thorns under my wedding band. My husband has one as well…it reminds us to put Christ in our marriage first and us second.
Being “trashy” is a state of mind. However, despite what the pundits say, you CAN judge a book by its cover. And we all do; rightfully or not.
Sure, it may be a double standard to say that women are trashy for having tattoos while men are not. But men and women are also diversely motivated. People naturally look differently at a ‘Nam vet with “Death Before Dishonor” emblazoned on his right shoulder than they would a young girl with a Pam Anderson “barbed wire” inked around her arm. The difference in messages are as clear as the differences in gender mentality.
That does not mean that young girls who do so are necessarily of low morals. Most are just doing this in blind obedience to a degraded pop culture that tells them this is a “cool” thing to do. (The girls of my generation were equally clueless in this regard!) But it DOES still send a message of “easy pickin’s”, whether intended or not. And that often leads to trouble.
Girls would be well advised to stay away from tattoos. All they actually do is detract from female beauty. They never enhance.
Somewhat I suppose.
I never want to get a tattoo. I figure if I need something to decorate me, I’ll get proper accessories.
i want fairy wings on my back but havnt quite yet!! we’ll seee
It really depends on the woman, & the placement.
The definition of ‘tramp stamp’ is a tattoo placed on a woman’s lower back, named so because as the man takes said lady from behind he’s got something to look at during the act. The term is generally degrading, but the point of a tattoo is more or less to expose it, & a woman’s back is often a good place to balance hiding it (say, for workplace purposes) & showing it off, like at the beach.
I have a tattoo, actually it’s a ‘tramp stamp’, however I’ve had tons of people say that it suits me because it’s “equally as classy” as myself. I’d say that those women who get tacky hearts or flowers or tribal symbols on their lower backs lose their class.
I’m not trailer trash at all…in fact, getting inked is pretty expensive! Then again I think that tattoos are a matter of opinion to begin with.
Depends where you put it…
Personally, I don’t think so. However, I have two tattoos, and think of me what you will, but I feel better for having them done. My first was before my husband and I almost got divorced, but we ended up working through our problems and staying married. The second one was after my grandmother passed, because I was her care-taker and very close to her. So, I guess that really makes me trashy after all, huh?
People in this day and age shock the crap out of me who are so conservative and closed-minded as to think that it automatically makes a woman a tramp or a whore whenever they decide to get a tattoo. Maybe they have gone through a lot in their lives, or just enjoy good art.
@STEVENPILL - I think that is not true…I think that tattoos do enhance one’s beauty. Also, double standards do suck, but I don’t think today’s pop culture is degraded in any way. I think what it’s trying to do is send the message out there that all of us can be beautiful in our own way. However, that is your own opinion sir…
.
Imo, it depends on the tattoo itself and where it is placed. i have two so far, both on my spine and can easily be hidden by wearing a tee-shirt. But the tats on the lower back that young girls get to seem ‘sexy’ are trashy to me, but thats just me.
That is the most sexist comment I have read in a while.
did anyone ask Natalia?
Fucking useless, brainless tattooed women.
It’s just another excuse to say “look at me! look at me!”, and then act all offended when someone does look at them.
Yes it turns them all into trailer trash. At least trailer trash is probably more honest about wanting sex.
So-called non trailer-trash want sex just as bad, put out all kinds of signals and dress like sluts, get tattoos and pretend “oh it’s just cute, it’s just for fun, I’m doing it for myself”, but secretly (or-not-so-secretly), are smugly enjoying the looks/attention they are getting. Then they put on these faces of shock and dismay, as if to say “oh, I feel uncomfortable that someone is looking at me, or is attracted to me.”
They’re nothing but hypocritical piles of shit, and they can all fuck off.
Especially those cunts that get a whole are tattooed, and then act smug like they’re better than everyone else.
Christ! I meant a whole ARM tattooed.
@clozdadoor - very nicely said!
@SpunkyTigerChick - So you’re having threesomes with Christ, then?
It is believed that the shoes were made in Australia at the time of World War I when the aviators wore these shoes in the non pressurized cockpits of the aero planes. Made of sheepskin and sometimes of kangaroo fur, the UGG boots that also include women’s UGG Boots a swell as children’s Ugg boots are made of the leather that has been tanned.
