  • How Long Does It Take To Write A Post?

I would say that it takes me about an average of 5 minutes to write each post.  I don’t spend a ton of time thinking about the post.  I just draw from one of the news stories of the day.  I quickly summarize the idea and then ask the question in the end.

Occasionally I write a post that takes me 10 minutes and about every month or two I write a post that may take as long as 45 minutes.  The posts that take 45 minutes are pretty obvious when you see them for their length.

From the time you sit down in front of a computer, how long does it take you to write a post?

  • depends on the post, usually not long at all

  • about 5 to 10 mins, depending on content. longest i think 30 mins, max.

  • It completely depends. There are times when it only takes me 10-15 minutes, and others when it takes me several hours. I’m usually doing many other things when I spend more than 30 minutes on a post, though. Like homework, or email, or whatever.

  • My “very awesome” posts usually take me two hours if I do them in one sitting,  but I usually can’t,  so they take about three days.

    This is very interesting,  Dan.

  • I typically take around five to fifteen minutes for my posts. The longest take a half an hour or so.

  • i put a lot of thought into my posts so it usually takes me about 20 min.

  • It takes me hours even for the simplest because I’m always getting interrupted by work

  • 5-10 minutes. It just depends.

  • 5 – 10 minutes… depends.

  • Around an hour? I get distracted by other things easily.

  • 15 minutes to half an hour till I get the spell check done, can’t forget that.

  • It used to take me no time, mainly because I type for a living, lol, but when you factor in a 19-year-old son, a 4-year-old daughter, a husband, 4 cats, and a telephone that rings of the hook, it seems to take forever, lol. Plus, for some reason, I tend to reiterate the same thing I said in the post like 10 times, lol. Not sure where I picked up that bad habit, lol. Plus after I start reading it to ensure it says what I want, I find myself constantly adding things in and revamping…so the answer…forever, lol! Just like now, for instance, silly cat decides to walk in front of my screen, usually even sitting down right in front of my screen or under my desk light to I guess sunbathe while another cat every morning like clock work makes her way into my lap while I’m trying to type my work, lol.

And I’m glad you asked this question because I was about to try to continue typing my work until I see about three errors I had to fix in the above comment. Means it’s time to nap, lol. There’s probably others I missed but hey I don’t get paid to have error-free comments, only patient notes, lol!

Have a great weekend there, Dan, :)

  • @AliasUndercover - I never saw that user pic of yours before.

  • I don’t write many posts.

  • 20 minutes minimum for me to put out a good post.  It takes time for me to write.  And I really need to put in a new post…

  • Depends on the post but I spend about 15 minutes then I make it ‘private’. Usually I’m blabbing away about something that no one probably finds interesting.

  • WHEN I blog, it takes forever because I’m trying to fit too much in AND trying to post pics – which takes me a liftime since I do it so rarely – I forget HOW!  I think I just get frustrated and that’s why I hardly blog!!!  Now that I’m on “another” blog site, I rarely even come here except when someone else blogs!  But I do enjoy reading yours, Dan.  I’ll have to share them with B!!

  • Bare minimum is 5 minutes. It usually takes about 15-20 minutes or so. But that’s the actual writing, not the thinking, brainstorming, or editing, all of which add on time.

  • six minutes and 37 seconds. EVERY time.

  • From rough draft to private posting, probably about 45 minutes. Then another 15 minutes of proofreading and revisions before making it public. So about an hour and even then I’m usually not really happy with it.

  • It depends on what the post is about, and what else I am doing at the same time (can anyone say ADD?).

  • I usually stew on my posts for weeks. I’ll write half of one, leave it up on private, and never actually finish it. (If I were to finish some of my blogs, I’d have material for the next month, updating daily). I have a lot of ideas, but rarely do I have the time to actually sit down and expand upon them.

    So, typically, 20-30 minutes?

  • It depends on what I am writing about. Not t mention that I am known to go back and make edits and changes to my posts.

  • It takes me several hours – often three to 6 hours.  i often start my next post after I finish my first post of the day.  I might eventually set the new post aside and finish it the next morning.

  • My non sensical posts never take more than 15 minutes no matter how long they are, but my serious posts can take up to about an hour and a half.

  • It depends on the tone of the post, on whether or not it is stream of consciousness, on whether I use photos or not.  It depends on whether or not I am writing for Internet Island or for Featured Grownups.

  • It depends on the post.    If I’m posting pictures from a photo shoot, it takes me all day when you factor in the time to take the photo.

  • It depends on what I’m writing. Something creative like a poem can take an indefinite amount of time, maybe days. But generally it’s 5-15 minutes like everyone else.

  • i dont pay too much attention to  time.

  • Not long.. if I’m doing pics, longer.. I can type pretty fast and I have three kids, not like I get a lot of time to make a post

I do come back though.. to add and edit and blab.

  • About .006% of my day.

  • About twenty minutes to half an hour

  • Usually no more than 5 minutes here either…unless I’m uploading pics for it…then it might take 5 minutes and 14 seconds.  For the most part, if I’m blogging the content for the blog is fully ready in my head.

  • Depends on the post, but I’m always doing other shit while I’m writing, so…

  • depends how meaty the subject is. i dont blog daily or even weekly anymore so usually takes at least 20 mins when i find something good to write about~~

  • @seedsower - That’s how I stay undercover.  I’m a master of the skies!!  I mean, disguise!!!

  • It depends on the topic.

  • Roughly half an hour. It totally depends on what I’m writing and if I’m posting any pictures that I need to edit and upload.

  • I over analyze things sometimes.  I normally write a post, and if it is longer than a paragraph I’ll let it sit and re-read it later before I submit.  So, on average 8min I would say.

  • I post multiple times a day so it’s different depending on when/what I post.  My first post tends to take about 5 mins because I already know what I’ll post about before I even sit down at my laptop.  The second post tends to be more personal and can take MUCH longer, especially if I’m adding pictures or the like.  And then I may post a few thoughts throughout the rest of the day which could take as little as a minute.

  • Depending on what I am blogging about,   over the last few weeks I have not given much thought what I am putting into my entries,

As for entries on private or post set for the future I do edit it now and again before going public.

  • I usually have a lot to say, so I’d think that half an hour is the average time I spend per post. Not to mention the extra formatting so that my blog always looks neat and presentable. (:
I get a bit OCD about the presentation sometimes, that I even end up deleting entire paragraphs which don’t look right, regardless of content. Either that or I rewrite them until they DO look nice. Haha.

  • depends, if it is deep or just a thought 5mins to 1.5hrs is about my length for posting

  • Sometimes I add to my posts throughout the day. I figure most people just skim, so if my posts are miles and miles long…well they are mostly for me and maybe one or two others, so it doesn’t matter that much.

  • The time varies according to what I’m posting about and whether I’m adding photos or graphics. Also, I like to make use of background and border colors. I post first in private and spend time editing before making it public. One reason I don’t post much is not having the time it does take. I haven’t really timed posts — maybe I should. I’d guess the shortest would be maybe 15-20 minutes and longest would be close to one hour.

    Cheers

  • Depends on the post, if it is more of an essy probably an hour but a lot are silly quizzes or surveys or reposting a video which usually takes a few minutes at the most.

  • sometimes 30 minutes to an hour, sometimes 3-4 hours, sometimes 3 weeks plus a little at a time.

  • How do you really do it?  I might need to learn from you. :)

  • It usually depends on what I’m writing about and if I’m attempting to do more than one thing at a time.  I have a two and a half year old stepdaughter and sometimes I’ll have to stop in the middle to get her or direct her to something else.  But usually 5-10 minutes.  10-15 if longer.

  • 6 minutes 29 seconds.

  • They magically appear

  • Depends on what I want to write about.

  • it depends. mine are usually personal posts and they take about 15 minutes. depending on the length of course.

if it’s a topic and i’m passionate about it, maybe a bit longer.

  • I spend about 4-6 hours on each post, not including edits.

  • @yet_still_learning - extemporaneous speaking Linda, we write like we speak. I imagine you write like you speak also, which I why I wish you would vlog someday…

  • hmm…it takes me longer to poop.

  • I used to take about an hour from my day to go through everything that went on. I found it theraoudic to go through each class (in this case), and try to recall the details and everything. Then there is phrasing, some links possibly, and general thought. I sit down and do my prethinking, prewriting, revisions, and final draft in one sitting – usually in my head to my fingers to type.

  • Around ten minutes, more or less.

  • Takes me a while (see the length!) because I multi-task at work.  Keeps me from getting bored.  Haha. I don’t even know how long.  Varies between 15-30 minutes.  If I’m really fired up about something a long entry can actually take about 10 minutes.

  • It varies.  Some are quick updates that take a minute or two.  Others are ones I’ll work on for days in my notebook and eventually transfer to my computer.

  • I sit on the toilet with my laptop, and then when I’m done…I’m done.

Naw; its normally 15-20 minutes of typing.

  • It all depends. Anywhere from 10 minutes to several hours if I use a lot of images that take time photoshopping.

  • usually takes me a few days, I’ve been having a damn hard time finding stuff to write about, I’ve been having to resort to posting real topics.

  • This is a dumb question.

  • it actually depends on what I write. Because, majority of my post are just blurbs of stuff that I’m think about.
id say 15 minutes to an hour almost.  and of course i spell check and grammar check before i post

  • Depends. Usually 20 – 45 minutes. I have a post that I started in May of 08 and I’m still trying to finish it…

  • About an hour.

  • I wrote a post that took me about 2 hours yesterday. But I did eat dinner half way though writing it, but it is really long. Go read it everybody. :D

  • All of mine take 72 hours to write, and then, I have to go through an intensive paperwork quagmire with the production company to get it published on time, and of course, it never happens and then everyone starts yelling at each other. No longer after, fights break out in various parts of the room. Small fires begin burning, and I’m not even sure who sent them or why. Nevertheless, this rapidly-degenerating spiral of chaos ends up with the SWAT team storming the building, arresting several black interns, and restoring order.

Everyone who said their posts only take a few minutes are liars, unless of course, their posts consist mainly of regurgitated content or some awful uninspiring one-liner.

  • @AmberBelen - You’re a dumb question.

  • anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes ^^

  • Depends on how much I am writing and if I know what I want to write, sometimes I get stuck and start all over, sometimes it just flows…But I would say anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes.

  • Well I usually have posts rolling around in my head for a couple days but when I actually go to write it it probably takes about 10-20 minutes. Writing comes easy for me.

  • depends on what I’m writing. One of my more recent posts took less than five minutes. But if I’m writing a short story, it could take me a couple of days…

  • @AvenueToTheReal - I heart you hahahaha <3333

  • I’ve never clocked it.

  • Too long, and more often than not I end up deleting the post.

  • That typically depends on the number of pictures I’m posting, as uploading takes a bit of time.  Even longer if I’m uploading a video.  But to write the actual post – it usually takes a couple minutes.

My posts are directly about my life, so they don’t take too much thought to put together.

But, take my wedding planning posts for example.  I’m thinking and talking about wedding plans pretty much every day with my bridal party and fiance.

  • fast careless days can be a ten minute post, others are usually 45…

  • depends on my post…..usually 10-20 minutes sometimes 45…if it’s longer….

  • it usually takes me about ten-twenty minutes to write my posts. i just sit down and then pour out my thoughts.

  • it very much depends on the content and the means by which I implement that content. if it’s mostly me writing it could take up to an hour, if it’s mostly just links and pics I could be done in about 5 minutes…

  • It really depends on the post.  Usually less than 10 minutes.

  • That really depends… some take 5 or 10 minutes, others may take a couple of hours, but those ones are pretty rare

  • Are we counting the time it takes to write them, or all the time in between? Because lately I’ve been doing the posts with video links, I go to Youtube to look up the videos and get distracted by the other videos I’ve forgotten about. So it takes about 2 hours, with my actual writing taking about 20 minutes. (This explains why my posts are suck-tacular)

  • Never under 5 min. You rock, sir.

  • About 30-45 mins. for most posts.

  • There. I just made my first under 5 min post.  You are such an inspiration.

  • about 5m, but it’s usually something i’ve been thinking about for awhile.

  • 5-15 minutes depends on what kind of post I’m writing

  • depends on my schedule for posts (yes, I have a schedule).  Some days, 5 minutes…but on longer one’s…I can have it take a few days…and just wait for it to be finished later.

  • It takes me about half an hour.

  • Most of the time when I go to make my blog,
I already have a good idea of what I’m going
to post. It only takes 5-7 minutes. Just depends
on what all I have to say.

Sometimes I get side tracked though, then well
it takes at least an hour.

  • depends on if I have writers block. Anywhere between 5 min to 2 days

  • Just depends on what they are about….

  • Probably about the same as you. I just let my mind rumble without fear of grammatical or silly mistakes. Who cares–it’s my blog. :)

  • It takes me a lot of time which is a good thing. Most of my post I don’t really write…I copy articles out of the local newspaper or occassionally out of books I find in the library. And all the information concerns topics that have affected my life in one form or another. Sometimes I write from the top of my head but not often. The amount of time I spend posting is also affected by the time limits they place on me here at the library. We are given two hours of free Internet time everyday. 4 individual segments of 30 minutes. Most of which I spend posting or researching information for knowledge that I need to know. I also spend some of the time reading other posts and leaving comments. When you have my illness you tend to have a lot of time on your hands. So I spend my time posting because its free. Talking about time…I have spent some of it on this comment so I am going to shut up now…lol…good night.

I would like to add that I never do re-writes. Most of the time only first drafts.

  • Anywhere from 10 to 25 minutes. It just depends on what I’m posting.

  • One hour. I get distracted.

  • without distractions: it takes me 10 minutes.

with distractions ( unfortunately there are always distractions) : it takes me about 30-60 minutes.

  • it ranges anywhere from five seconds to a full hour, or even more depending.

  • Usually too darned long. :P

  • Sometimes it can take me two hours to write an e-mail…

  • it depends on what I’m writing about but it can range from 10-50 minutes

  • Usually, between 4-6 hours…. But then, my posts are insane.

  • It usually takes me about 5-10 mins. It depends though. My longer posts can take up to an hour because I always want to say everything just right. Sometimes I can’t think of the word I wanna use

  • Dan, you do not write the same type of posts that everybody else writes.  You ask a question and then expect a response.  You do not write about your life.  You do not write about your day.  You do not write about canning blueberries, driving in the car, listening to music, etc.  Most write personal entries.  Those take time.  Some like to put pictures together to match up with what they are writing about.  I can write a post in five minutes, and do some days, but those aren’t  the posts that will tell you anything about me.  I’d say a thought out post will take anywhere from 10 minutes to 45 minutes. Even this answer takes me longer because I think about all the ways I want to respond to this.

  • i once spent 3 months off and on “writing” a post. link:

  • Depends on how distracted I get and how many times I have to go an re-read, edit, reword, etc.  I tend to make a lot of mistakes in the wording of posts.  The way I hear something said may sound normal, but, then again, I know that other people may find it difficult to read if I leave it that way.  I have an odd way of putting words together.  lol  So about an hour.

  • Well, mine are normally longer… but anywhere from 5-20 minutes. Then I have to find a pic and then I have to post them. Usually, by the time I do it all and post on three sites it has been 45 minutes to and hour.

  • mostly around 15 minutes.  I’ve had some that took a couple hours though.

  • the whole afternoon while slacking off work in between and just typing whatever that comes to mind? productive two ways, but hell lotta stuff comes out when i do that.
and cos i’m so random, it just comes whenever and whatever i think’s necessary to write that day!lol

  • 5 minutes if it’s just an update or summary of my day.

10+ minutes if their is meaning behind it, and it’s not pointless rambling haha

  • about 10 or 15 minutes. i always reread each post about 5 times though then i spell check it. lol.

  • They can take from 10 minutes to 45 or more. I can see what you mean. This one took all of 2 or 3 minutes lol:)

  • depends on the post.  some take about 10-20 minutes…but i rant a lot.. and i have a lot of photo intensive blogs.. .some of those take anywhere between 1 hour and 3 days.

  • It depends if i’m busy doing other things
i’m guessin anywhere between 15-45 min

  • Really depends on what I’m writing about. Some days it’s just a 5 minute summary of my day. Other times it’s less than 2 minutes about what I’m currently feeling. If I feel like detailing and writing somewhat of an essay, less than an hour. Maybe 30-45 minutes? But that depends on how my thoughts are flowing at the time too..

  • Hmmm depends. Some posts take me a couple days, just because I don’t have time to sit down and write the whole thing. Like the last one I did, I compiled within a span of about a week. Just because I got the idea, observed my classmates, wrote the original post, observed my classmates some more, edited it, and THEN posted it. But in general it takes less than 10 minutes.

  • For one of my history posts, including research…2 hours. The one about the Seven Wonders took 3 hours.

  • Typically, 10-20 minutes. If I’m multitasking it can take up to 45 minutes.

  • Anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour… sometimes though, if I’m at work, I’ll write my post there and just type it when I get home. Depends on the topic though… they’re all pretty personal so yeah..

  • ranging from 5mins to an hour -depending on the content..

  • 15 to 30 minutes. i write long lengthy entries about my days :D

  • It all depends on what I want to say…

  • Depends on the post, and on what I’m doing at the same time. If I’m doing other things at the same time, then it would take me a while, if not, then probably like 5 minutes or so. Well, it also depends on how long that post is, but usually not very long.

  • i’d have to say around 10~20 minutes, but i always end up re-reading my posts to look for grammatical errors, so i end up spending another 5~10 minutes being ocd and obsessing over my post, haha!

  • It can range from 15 minutes to two and a half hours, depending on what I’m blogging about. I really get into to what I’m saying, and I also find myself getting distracted from the other websites that I’m on (MySpace, Google, etc.)

  • 5-10 mins, unless it’s longer.

  • uh…. probly anywhere between 10-30 minutes. though often times the screen is open for like 2 hours, if im writing it at work and doing other things as well…

  • It depends what type of post it is. If it’s one of my infamous Style Watchers posts, only five minutes, but if it’s a controversial or really meaningful one – anywhere from 30 min to an hour.

  • 10-30mins it varies

  • Depends on the post and how “inspired” I feel. Sometimes maybe five minutes, sometimes ten…it really varies.
