My oldest son is 15 years old. I am 36 years old.
He just made the basketball team again. He is going to be one of the starters according to the coach.
He is 6 feet, two inches tall. I am 6 foot, 4 inches tall.
Who do you think would win in a one on one game with dad against son?
Comments (89)
him.
You,you are fairly competitive. We still have to play Dutch Blitz!
I’d need to know a lot more about your respective games before making that call. Whether you’re better at posting up or shooting from the perimeter, how tough you are on defense, the like. But since you have more raw experience and he’s still growing I’ll say you… for now.
Him, only because as far as I know, he is the only one who plays basketball.
Top five?
if i say son, please don’t block me from your site! haha
actually maybe you’ll be fairly equal…how’s that
I hate to break it to you….but he might win dear Dan….
I’m going with you…you’ve got more experience.
I dunno… too many variables…
I am not completely sure. I am not that into basketball.
im not sure; how are your dunking skills???
You, if you bully him enough. =)
If you fully exploit your height and weight advantage– backing him in for layups, bodying him up for boards– I’d give you the edge.
If you go soft on your son, with his practiced shooting touch and his in-shape athleticism, I’m fearful that he’d run circles around you.
ps – thanks for the info.. on my question…..
Probably you simply because of the mind games dads can play on their sons reguarding sports
My dad used them on me. He is 6’2″ also but I was 6’3″ at 15
I’m going to put my money on you… for now.
my bet is on him… sorry, dude.
I had my first dunk in the 10th grade. Felt pretty awesome
he will
do you has skillz?
Well, I’m 6′ and my little brother is 6’4″ but I can still whip him on the courts…and as far as I know you don’t play basketball, so I’m going to go with him.
Whoever plays the best would win.
@ClockworkBunny - ANSWERS JUST DO NOT GET ANY SAFER THAN THAT.
I don’t know who will win, but yikes! He’s not through growing yet!
Think he’s gonna pass you?
Kathi
him haha
Probably depends on how good you are at basketball, right?
i say you. but in another year…. idk dan. you better keep your skills in ship shape.
Haha – unlike JoJo, I’m going to be unsafe! Usually I opt for age, experience and cunning over youthful enthusiasm. In this case, however, I don’t. Youth and energy (and practice) will win out over age and height in basketball, unless you’re really Michael Jordan pretending to be some guy named Dan.
Him he is the younger after all!
dad! my dad beats me and I’m older than 15… younger than 19
Just yell “Your mom and I are getting a divorce!” as he’s about to throw the winning shot.
(can anyone spot the television reference?)
well in my experience(with my brother and dad). my brother is 14 and fairly good, my dad is 48 and played basketball all through high school and college. but my dad is 5 inches taller and still faster. so i’d say you
How much do you suck at basketball?
Depends if you’re any good.
Holy moly! I don’t know who would win, honestly. But you’d better watch out and keep in shape.
I wish I was tall.
the kid
goodness youre tall. How do yall white ppl do it? Hehe. The guy I dated is 6 ft and hes the tallest I ever had. Feels strange to not be able to wrap my arms around his neck, I have to hold him around his tummy.
I think you would win. Youre still young. Give him 4 years and hes going to school you.
DAn….you had babies at a young age.
I don’t know who’d win between you two, but I know I’d lose.
if he’s a decent shooter from the perimeter, i’d say HIM. i doubt he’d try and take you inside with your size advantage.
if he’s inconsistent with his jumper, i’d give it to YOU, because you could easily take him inside and bull your way for easy points in the paint.
if you threaten to ground him if he beats you, then i guess you could win
Depends, who knows more about playing basketball?
You know he would. You would be too worried about hurting him. He, on the other hand, would use the opportunity to put you on the ground if he could. It’s called “payback”!
Holy Hell, A 6 foot 2 15 year old?! No wonder he’s starting!!
You.
>6 ft. asian ?!
i root for the boy!
well regardless of who would win, i think it’s great and really exciting that your son made Varsity. congrats and best of luck!
i bet the games would be competitive!
what’s in your arsenal? how are your low post skills? do you at least out-weigh him?
well considering jesus shuttlesworth worked his papa….
RIGHT NOW, i say you win. but as soon as the kid is 16 and a half, he will without a doubt take you to the hole and never look back.
I think your son does!
Who won the race between you two that you did once?
I don’t know Dan. You have to consider some of your phobias. I think your son might have the edge.
RE:您係?!
Assuming you are a basketball player, you should win. You are young enough to keep up with him in terms of running. You probably know much more about using your body to guard, rebound, etc. Enjoy it while you can because the day will come when you won’t even be able to run, let alone beat him!
You’d win, hands down.
hmm that’s tough. young agility vs old experience. i think you would. you should be experienced enough to play around even the most agile of players.
I think you will win,,
because you have much more experience than him LOL
Him……………Gee….you had your first kid when you were 21!!! I think most guys nowadays would’nt do that.
Aww…he’s a year younger than me…….and my mom’s 55.
Probably your son. Height isn’t everything
Did you play basketball in high school? I bet you are so proud of your son.
you
You could take him.
you play basketball with your son, congratulations! your a good father. i wish all fathers could do that
Prob you… but just give the kid time to learn.
Depends if you’re in shape.
don’t break a leg!
him, lol.
Height isn’t everything when it comes to being a good basketball player
since his 15 and 6’2″ i assume hes fairly skinny. post him up and put some weight on him, be physical on defense and pound him if he tries to post you up! you cant lose!
in all seriousness, you can probably still win.
If you can play basketball and have good stamina, you could probably at least be a worthy opponent.
Hmm… tough one. >_>
I say you. LOL
I have asked my magic eight ball, and it says you could beat your son.
However I think your son will beat you.
If you are in shape and actually play basketball at all, you will tear him apart. He is only 15. Your skills are on there way down, he is just a boy still.
But if you have never been a basketball player. Your son will be opening a can of whoop ass on you.
I have no idea, but at the same time, the fact that your son is shorter than you reminded me of how the term “regression” came into being as a way to describe equations that describe related data points (linear regression, quadratic regression, or any least squares regression technique). The term was used by Francis Galton to describe how short men usually had sons who were taller and tall men had sons who were shorter. The height of the sons “regressed” back to the average, and the name stuck. The first use of the technique of least squares dates back to Legendre and Gauss. I hope you enjoyed your mathematics history for the day.
All things being equal, height gives a person only a slight advantage. So I’d give it to you. But rarely are all things equal. If the facts are that you’ve never played organized sports and your son is a starter at age 15? Well, I’d place my money on your son.
Unless you are in pretty good shape and played basketball before, he will probably win.
Oh dang you’re young hahaha. And tall.
Idk. Maybe the dad in this case.. it depends how fit/ young he is.
Lol but anywho, my brother is also 15, but my parents are like 50 hahahaha.
Oh wait. You said “oldest son” lol. but still ..
Lol, him.
You.
Is he really 6′ 2″? Jesus that’s tall for his age…
your son
Hhmm. That’s a tough one. He has the youth but you have the more mature brain. Since I don’t know your physical ability nor your or his basketball skills, I just don’t know. Keep us posted?
Son
Son!
You may have a few more good years ahead, but I guarantee you will feel it the next day!
Sorry, but I’d have to say your son. Your son is probably more physically fit, and has been practicing his basketball. You might not be as skilled, unless you play all the time.
This question is hardly fair. Dad always wins. You would use his youth and inexperience against him. He may be more athletic but you can play smarter and know him and his tactics far better than he would yours.
…there’s also the determination factor. I could beat my younger brothers in sandlot football when they were more athletic and played the game more simply because I wanted it more. I was NOT going to let them beat ME. One brother was a lineman and I took him down HARD. while everyone else playing ran to see if we were ok, we were both laughing as he told me “good hit”. Age wins the battles though youth may win the war simply be attrition.
Him, but you’d have a fair chance.
Neither if you two are going to play REAL street ball.
my dad’s around your age and pretty damned good. i’m 16, 6 ft, and about evenly matched with him even though i dominate my friends. i think part of it is that we know each others styles all too well.
Ha, ha, ha. It sounds like he’s got you wondering. Can you shoot the 3-pt? Work on your fade away. You’ll have to take him from the outside, since he’s younger and faster.
Your son.
@seedsower - I LOVE Dutch Blitz!!!
Your son,you oldy.
your son. hands down. =D
