The Ideal Height
I was talking to h0peless_romantic on IM tonight and she was talking about how she wished she was taller.
She is 5’1″ and she said people would respect her more if she was taller. I am 6′ 4″ and I admit that it is easier to command respect if you are taller.
If you had to pick between being 2 inches taller or 2 inches shorter than you are now, which would you pick?

Seeing as how I’m 4’11″, I would say two inches taller.

Hmm. I’d go two inches shorter, which would make me 5’8″. Mostly I’m just perfectly happy at my current height, however. I’ve been this height for nearly ten years.

I’m laughing because most of those who want to be two inches taller are asians.
I’d like to be 2 inches taller. That’d make me over 6′ i’m just short of it
at 5’7 i will go with taller, though i would say i tend to respect taller people less. this has mainly to do with the fact that i have noticed that the majority of them attempt to resort to physical intimidation(hovering over you, a heavy hand on the shoulder etc) when they cant get you to agree with something they are saying.
over all with the height issue it can go either way, you can get short guys with small man syndrome, or taller guys who think their size is a way to convince people to come around to their way of thinking. neither is pleasant, but the SMS victims can be helped by being shown respect, a quick uppercut to clear the airspace above your head is necessary to deal with the latter.
to the specific issue of hopeless_romantic, she is very pretty, and i dont really see her hieght as a problem, from the brief peruse i gave her blog she seems to deserve plenty of respect.

I’m 5’2″ which is very short compare to all the other girls around my age. So, definitely 2″ taller! I originally though it’s normal consider most chinese are born shorter than other race. However, I’m start to notice most of my female cousins are getting taller than me even the teens. I’m so jealous of those girls who are born to be tall with skinny legs. Finding a good pair of pants is very hard.
@ionekoa - thank you for your comment. I don’t hate my height, but I do find people respect you more if you have more height. It is almost an intimidation factor. Most people are not intimidated by people shorter than them. But, thanks for your nice comment.

@decembriel - So would I, I am 4″9(apparently)..but i think im 4″8(I think its because im chinese xD) and im 18(but still look young). It has its advantages though like buying child tickets for cinema :p…but gotta bring ID everywhere. Lots of people call me cute…even when im being mean to them. And lots of people say “Oh my god, you’re 18?…but you’re so small!”.
I’m not really sure what my height is? My license states that I’m 5’2 but I think I’m only 5’0.
There are many “people”, who have ridiculed me for my height from grade school even at my former workplace. I’ve been called everything in the book “shrimp”, “elf”, “midget” and so forth
I had this one guy approach me and ask, “Did you know that your short?” I looked at him and said, “Oh gee thank you very much for pointing that out, I always thought I was 6’3. Oh by the way did you know that you’re an asshole?” (Yep, I’m short and sweet *laughs evilly*)
Umm, my height I’ve learned to deal. My weight well that’s a different story (heh heh)
To: h0peless-romantic, I know this sounds easier said than done but don’t worry about your height. People should respect you no matter what.

2″ taller, since I’m only 5’1″ right now. However, I actually don’t mind being 5’1″ –I’ve not run into any problems with this height. I do agree with decembriel, being under 5 feet unfortunately tends to invite negative comments more often. Or you’re forever doomed to being “cute” instead of beautiful/pretty/hot.
I think it also depends on where you live and how tall the people around you are. I go to Taiwan, and I’m actually average to slightly taller than average for a girl; in the US though, I’m considered quite short.

Well, there have been numerous studies which have shown that taller individuals receive more promotions, garner more respect and are seen as more attractive in contrast to their counterparts.

i’m taller then most girls my age at 5’9″ yet i still wish to be taller, if possible i would add the extra two inches and proudly declare myself 5 feet and 11 inches. this is not to say that shorter is worse, but it tends to be thought of as cute, where i would rather be thought to be striking and unique.

I would pick two inches shorter. I am tall for a woman and don’t always like the fact that most men are the same height as me. Its tough to date sometimes because of height. My fiance is exactly one inch taller than me and its hard for me to wear heels with him, even though I still do because I tower over him when I do. I love my height 5’9. I was taller than all the boys, so it kept me focused in school longer than my shorter counterparts, I excelled at basketball. I was never made to feel “scared” if you would by a bully, and I have a totally hot height. I love being a tall woman.

Being a 6 foot tall teenage girl, I would love to be 2 inches shorter. I don’t notice my height really. Every once in a while though, it hits me. I’ll be standing in the cafeteria, looking around, and at least 90% of the girls are shorter than me.
So I always used to want to be two inches taller because my family is a bunch of giants, quite literally. Every one on my mother’s side of the family is over the height of 5’9, including all the women (well besides myself). I have a cousin who is 7’4 and even his grandmother is taller than I am. My mom is 5’10 and my father is 6’3, and to make matters worse my sister is 10 and she is already 5’5 as well as my brother who is 9 (both of them are estimated to reach over 6′ by the time of full development. I am at 5’6 1/2 and so almost every one on my mother’s side of the family used to call me the runt.
The good part is now I live closer to my fathers family, and I am the tallest girl on that side, except my mom.
I also like this guy who is shorter than me, but eh. I like my height.

I would go two inches shorter, I’m 6’0″ even and it’s harder finding a man taller than me and the perfect jeans, always have to order them.
I’m 6’1″, so I can’t say I would change my height. Those taller than me are regarded as “strangely tall”, those shorter are regarded as…average.

I believe I am just right at 5’6. I get respect, but I don’t intimidate.
I really like my height a lot. I am barely 5’7″ and it feels like the perfect height for me
. However, if I had to choose between adding 2 inches or losing 2 inches…I’d say…adding 2 inches.
I’m 5′ 2″ and would like to stay that way! I love being little! It’s fun being picked up and stuff.

i’m 5′ 1/2″. i guess two inches taller. although, i’m actually really comfortable with my height. even though i complain about it every day.

im 5’2″ so…taller that way my husband, who is 6’1″ wouldn’t have to break his back to kiss me (haha)
I’m only 4’11 and I guess I’d rather be two inches taller. But don’t get me wrong, I’m not the type of person who just really wants to be tall, I actually like being short. I find it so much more fun. (:
2 inches taller even though i’m 5’10. I have a few friends that are 6’3 and at 5’10 i’m just taller then a lot of guys so 5’8 is to short.

Two inches taller! I’m 5’6″ which kinda average, but still, I want to be just above average. And my little sisters are gaining on me! One’s already taller than me, and the 11 year old is just a few inches away from me now!

If her I.Q. had been several points higher instead, then she certainly would already have known that men are deeply intimidated by small women capable of standing up to the shit they that try to sling our way. Most men are just dogs in suits. When they bark at you, just snarl and bare your teeth and off they run … nearly every time. When they don’t, you bite them hard. Even dogs get that message.

2 inches taller. My dad is app. 6’2″ and my mom is app. 6’1″ (she used to be taller but has had disks removed) and I feel short even though I am 5’7″. Pretty much everyone grown in my family is my heighth or above.
I’m only 5’7″. Would I like to be taller. Maybe when I was a teenager. Not being disrespectful I just truly don’t think it matters. Be the person you are, love who you are. And if your true to that you’ll be loved. Just my opinion. I think we think to much about those kinda things. And there’s a bigger world around us. Who cares as long as we find happiness.
2 inches taller…I’m 5’3″ so being 5’5″ would be helpful. I agree, being short doesn’t always help you command as much respect.

I am already 2” inches taller than my husband. So I would have to go with 2” taller that way we could really draw some attention we go out!!

A friend of mine from High School is nearly 7 feet and he offered to give me 5 inches once. If it were possible I would have taken it.
Only good thing about being short is that I’m great at tae kwon do, my body is the perfect size for kicking butt at forms competitions!

I honestly don’t know which I’d pick. Both would have their advantages, really. If I were 2 inches taller, I would be able to fit pants better. If I were 2 inches shorter, well, I could fit petit pants easier.
Pants aside, I wouldn’t command more respect if I were 2 inches taller, but if I were 2 inches shorter, I think people would have an inaccurate assumption about me based on my height.
I would be supportive on all of your articles and blogs because they are just upto the mark.
