Comment Expectation
I have noticed that people have a certain comment and footprint expectation. So many will deny it but I see people complain about how a post didn’t get any comments when clearly it did. For example, I noticed a person complaining about how many comments he received on a post and he received 3 comments on the post.
He must have had a certain comment expectation for the post. I also saw a comment today when someone mentioned he had only received 100 footprints for the day.
How many comments do you expect to get out of a typical post?
Comments (177)
I always want a lot, and then get offended when I don’t get them.
Eh, 30 or so?
It use to be 0.5.
Lately, it’s been about two or three.
1 if I’m lucky =]
and maybe 5 footprints.
But I get a lot that just say ‘New York’ or ‘New Jersey’.
And it’s always those two places!
=]
man, I was so close to number 1 that time!
… Somewhere between zero and ten, not counting my replies.
I’m happy with anything at this point. I’m still trying to build an audience.
1. That is more than enough for me.
I hope for five, but usually only two or three pop-up.
At the most, ten. Usually half the comments are just my replies to actual comments.
I dont care if I dont get comments, I just kind of get bummed when nobody reads what I wrote and I feel it was reader friendly.
I dont EXPECT any. But im flattered when I get comments.
Maybe 1? On a good day…
meh about 2.
comments don’t matter a whole lot to me.
xanga is a place where I rant, and write
i’m not here to seek constant attention.
I expect none, so i can be pleasantly surprise when i do get some. Usually i get maybe 2 or 3
good enough for me
I’ll take what I get!
I only expect one.
ehh i dont really like the sound of “expect comments.” it sounds kind of like, “expecting presents.” you know? but honestly, i do. i kinda expect at least like, 2 or 3 haha
1 and im happy. =D
i’ll take whatever i can get. one’s enough to make me smile. =)
It depends on the day and the post.
1 and im happy. =D
eh. I’m happy with one, two. I’ve been stunned to have 100 comments in one week and 1200 visitors. Anonymity is sometimes better methinks.
@Artificially_Me - I get a lot of Jersey prints too…..and I know who my special friend from Jersey is…..
no numbers, really. i just expect SOMEONE will say something.
20% of the footprints in the first hour and 10% total once the post has ran it’s course. In the first hour, I expect between 100-150 views average, no matter the post. I mean, I really haven’t thought about it nor do I pay attention to that stuff…gees.
Two comments, 400 footprints per day.
0. 1 if i’m lucky.
i don’t know many people on xanga.
It really depends on the subject matter of the post. If I get 25 comments, that’s good to me. But even if I get 4 comments and hundreds of views, at least I know people looked at it.
I mean, we all can’t be you Dan. As much as some of them would like to. lol
I don’t expect comments ever. I was really surprised to get as many as I did on a few of my post in the past week or so. I don’t think what I have to say is that interesting.
I don’t really expect any certain amount. It just varys. I have a few the comment on every post and then I have some that comment every few posts. A post I think would get a few extra comments usually doesn’t get as many, but a post I think won’t get much activity, gets a lot. So I have no clue. If something happens that I think people might think is funny or a thought I have about someting I think might provoke others to think I post it. I mean, sure I’d like folks to comment, but I don’t lose sleep over it or anything if I don’t .
Usually about 3 comments in twenty-four hours, but more recently, I’ve come to expect 5-7.
I usually get 3 or 4, depending on what the topic was. I have a steady following, some just don’t have something to say on a certain blog. It doesn’t bother me any.
Of course I’m also a featured writer for Momaroo and when my posts hit the front page the comments roll in. Haha!
I usually hope for one or two, because as much as I write for myself, I love hearing people’s opinions of whatever I posted about.
Wow! I’m just grateful to get one or two comments on my posts! Truthfully, I blog for me not anyone else, though.
It’s lame to have comment expectations. It’s super lame if it ruins a person’s day when the quantity of comments doesn’t meet their expectations.
Two or three here and there normally makes me pretty happy.
10-15 on average these days. I’ve noticed it’s almost always one comment for every ten views. I don’t pay a whole lot of attention to my footprints anymore, unless I want to see if a particular person has read my post.
It differs usually. I never get too many, but I never really expect to get a whole bunch. It depends on what time of day I write an entry, too, because if more people are online right after I post it more people see it or want to read it because it’s recent. I usually get two or three, but I can get like as many as twelve. I love getting ANY comments though, so I don’t mind if I only get a couple.
7
one time someone made a pulse and was like “is my comment box broken??” and people commented “no…”
she was confused why it was already an hour and no one had commented….. wow…..
If a post doesn’t get at least fifteen individual commenters, I consider it a flop. Twenty is comfortable.
5-10, but it depends on the post.
At one point I was getting about 25 every 2-3 days, but I have slowed down and friends have left Xanga since then.
i dont expect that many comments
but i want like 1,000,000
I don’t expect anything.
Let’s face it, I’m not a xangalebrity? I’m just a 16 year old with few friends on xanga b/c all the other people are using blogspot.
I would say my average is around 10, so slow days I feel I get less and on good days I feel I get more.
two or three. MAYBE ten if it’s a REALLY good one. sometimes I can sense the ones that are going to get rec’d.
it doesnt really matter to me.
only 1. it doesn’t really matter to me.
If I go too long between posts, I don’t expect any comments … if I’m not commenting, I don’t expect any comments either… Not to say I don’t *like* comments, I just don’t *expect* them. If your comment expectations are low, you’re not disappointed.
None.
i take what i can get..but i am honored when people vist and comment…im just grateful…
I usually expect about 2 comments per 10 views.
none…maybe a few a week.
One comment if I’m lucky.
But I’m ok with that!
That depends, but if I actually put any effort in to it. Anything under 40 is a bit disappointing. If it is a quick one 20, a pride an joy 80
I don’t get that many… sometimes it is a lot, but just because I’m conversing with my subscribers.
Expect the worst, hope for the best : )
It doesn’t bother me a whole lot, 1 or 2 is nice. But to be honest, I write my stuff because I can, whether people read it is another story. If they read it, they read it. If they don’t, they don’t. Simple as that
I usually don’t allow comments. (:
footprints: 20
comments:5
barely anyone goes on my Xanga. lol
but its usually for posts that are long.
Hahahahahha. I thought that 100 footprints was a LOT. I copied and pasted that onto one of my weblog entries because I was amazed that people would actually read my stuff.
I didn’t expect people to even read my posts let alone comment, but I guess people stumble upon my site after reading my input on Datingish and Lovelyish.
One or two. Most of the people who read my blogs, I also talk to them on AIM or MSN, so we dialogue about it there.
i usually range between 25-40
so true Dan I am still trying to figure out how this comment thingy majig works the post that i had run on Revelife today only 28 or so views and a couple of comments how it ended up being voted or rec. for front page is beyond me..but the fact of the matter you can’t always believe what you see i guess
I do not expect too many but I like to get at least 30.
The best thing to do it not expect any comments at all…that way when you get none, you won’t be disappointed.
Like, zero.
1-3.
l dont know what hes complaining about…
l never get any.
lm good with that…
l just like the look of my page lol..
hope u all recieve good comments,
not silly ones.
at least 1.
eh, I don’t network, so what do I expect?
i expect 2 or 3. when i get more, i’m happy but if i dont, it’s alright. i dont write so as to get comments. i write cuz i cant expect my poor memory to remember all that’s happening with me for too long. now, i’ve made friends on xanga and i write to keep them updated on my life, and i get comments from those friends on every post that i write
7 now
use to be more 20 back in the old days (haha!) when I use to blog more and made more comments.
MAYBE 1
Eh, one, two, maybe none at all, depending. My journal is private- I write because it is essential to myself, and not because I’m out to become internet famous or whatever.
I only get footprints when I comment on the first page of one of your entries, or when I deliberately roam xanga so people will notice me.
I don’t expect anything but if they were going to give me one, I’d rather have them give me a good one over just saying something random and confusing…or spam -__-
LOL. Footprints, I used to get around 400-800 a week and now I get 200 max unless some bot decides to rape my site. haha
About five. They always comment me and I them. They are real friends on here.
Xo
a few, but it would help if I would actually post something worthwhile
1 is enough 2 is too much lol
For me its about the post & one I wish to reach ppl with. The lack, or not ,of comments of footprints merely shows the effect. SO i can get down about…but I know that I tend to be a trend setter some have said prophetic ..I can see that when I re stamp an older post. So…lol whatever..
Ten to twenty(about every post). My expectations are usually based upon how interactive I’m with my subs and comment regulars. Sometimes I’ll estimate thirty even, but that’s if I’m really going out there.
1 works for me. :>)
none. lol. My posts aren’t even interesting honestly, and I’m aware of it. :3
i slit my wrists when i don’t get comments.
for realz.
@naguyin - I hate when I’m like “oo a comment” and it’s some fucking random spam thing. Doesn’t happen that often but when it does I get angry.
I expect 1. : )
Um, I really don’t care. I can’t be that interesting all of the time
Three.
My xanga is solely for ranting, raving, and sharing. Xanga is therapy. I don’t expect anything, but relief. If I get one or even two comments, I’m just grateful someone’s listening. =] Oh, and Mr. Faust considers you a Xanga god. You should visit his page, lol.
@Artificially_Me - The ones that are directly from the same place mean you have an anonymous reader. It’s usually the same person, they just never comment. I have one from Cali who constantly reads. but never leaves a comment.
at least one would be nice
I plan on one. I usually get more. I also go for months before posting again. That makes it a bit easier to gather more comments per post.
recently, ive been getting like between 15 and 30… used to be i was stoked if i got 2, haha… but i understand that not every post i write is goinna really appeal to people, cause sometimes i just want to bitch about my life…
I would love to get more comments; however, I *expect* only one to five comments, since not that many people read. I admit to being a bit disappointed if I have no comments at all.
Well, I don’t expect any comment so I’m grateful for getting one! It’s a pleasant surprise.
@awokenfatality - Same here.
Depends on what the post was but I’m happy about every comment.
Five or six, typically.
I am happy with every comment and footprint I get.
Honestly, I hope for 75 per post, but I almost always get about 110-120 comments/220-240 eprops, so I’m doing pretty good for myself.
I don’t have a footprints expectation, but I average 200 a day if I haven’t posted in a while (about 800 if I posted recently), and about 3,000 a week if I post, 2,000 if I don’t.
If you ask me, expecting people to comment/visit is kinda big-headed.
I went the longest time with only getting one or two comments, so I’m always surprised when I have more then that.
It depends on the post I can get anywhere between 3-6…
I’m not really expecting anything.
I’d really like to know your expectations. Heck all of Xanga would like to know that. What would you do if you got 3 comments on one post, 5 on another and an average of 4 comments/post. And 500 footprints a week?
When I had a growing xanga, I would hope between 20 and 40 in about 24-48 hours.
That was a long time ago.
@relaxolgy - We are everywhere, we are legion.
Most of my stuff is shit…but when I write serious I expect to get at least a few. And I do. Most of the comments I get are from people who have been visiting for years. But my footprints to comment ratio has always been ridiculously low.
This is no longer a place for yourself, it’s now a place to try and advertise yourself….mostly people who are dry and dull and have nothing better to do than bitch and complain because not enough people cared about your droll post (not you, Cafe….general populace). It’s cock wars but with eprops.
I could care less, I expect zero comments because I’m not here to be popular, I’m here to write out my frustrations, be myself, and use writing a means to help heal. If someone comments, that’s super. But it shouldn’t be expected.
Between 4 and 8. 12 on a good day.
And then there was that one time where it was almost 50.
Ah, good times.
Oh, and I a little over 100 footprints a week.
not even one.
sometimes I might get one or two.
lol…zero! I write for me. People tend to look at my posts, but never have much to say about them.
5-10 Comments would be nice
0… >.>
I got my first actual comment the other day. It made me very happy.
I don’t have a comment expectation, I do have a footprint “goal” of 400 per day.
We’re supposed to care if we get comments? And count them?
I’m just happy if anyone communicates at all, ever.
There is no rationale behind it – rec’s help a lot, but… yeah. There’s just no reason to expect any unless you’re thetheologianscafe. I mean, i’m getting 10-30+ comments per post (or more) recently, and I think my writing style has been fairly consistent over the past five years or so. Still… I’d say a good amount of it depends on your interaction with other xangans, and the quality of the post. The posts that will get the most comments are witty posts that take a lot of time to put together, followed by inspiring posts, followed by sad posts. Shorter posts tend to get more comments than longer, but that’s not an absolute rule.
I’d say it works out to be +/-10+2(c)(r-l), where c is comments, r is recs, and l is length. But, i just made that entirely up, so there’s no guarantee of accuracy. What do you think, Thetheologianscafe?
i think it’s so silly.
i like getting comments, but i usually just write for myself, so nobody would have much to say anyway.
If I get any. Im happy
Honestly, I don’t expect any because I do not really write for people to comment, or even read. I write for myself and a couple of friends. Because I am not a writer, I am a reader. I enjoy everyones posts, and I have just learned that I should leave a comment. Only sometimes, I don’t know what to say and don’t leave one…but I should I know.
If I get even one comment I am excited!
10…
@Artificially_Me - SAME!
If I get 1 or 2 comments I’m happy. what is really disappointing is when I make a post that receives ZERO comments. I was getting alot of those for a while so I went back to writing all my personal business in my journal. Not I only post things on here I consider creative and non personal. It makes no sense to me to post my life on a blog that nobody reads…..
I’d at least like to get one. A lot of my friends are busy, and most of them moms…so I really don’t expect them to comment if they don’t have the time.
I don’t expect any….I write and blog for my own purpose. It’s my online journal. My therapy.
0
I write for me. If you read it, thanks. If you don’t, that’s fine too.
I don’t know. Like 0? Actually it depends on what I write about. I know certain posts will get more than others.
I consider myself lucky if I get more than one.
@xmatthew_andrewx - hahaha same here.
Hmm, I don’t know what I expect but I definitely get bummed when I get no comments. I used to have TONS of friends on Xanga, but they all migrated to blogger, Facebook and Myspace and shut down their Xangas so I don’t get many comments at all anymore, makes me sad. I still get loads of footprints though – and the more active I am on Xanga, the more footprints I get, which is kind of fun.
I dont really expect them, per se, but its been a while since Ive wrote a post that I havent gotten any on.
I guess, on average, I get like, 8 comments per post? And probably 75ish footprints per day, give or take a couple hundred?
It really depends on the day. I can write a post and get 40 comments and a thousand footrpints one day, and get one comment and two views the next.
I dont know.
It doesnt honestly matter all that much, I write to write.
It depends on what I blog about. If it’s just a random rant, where clearly I was just in a mood to type nonsense, then I’m flattered if I even see it’s been read. But if I take the time to bare my soul and consider myself especially witty that day, I secretly hope that others will read and think so too.
i’d be grateful if there’s even one.
0-1
:]
I’m not really into this xanga culture
X}
i don’t expect any except from a couple of my friends. but i like giving out comments because i like reading other peoples’ stuff x)
I expect to get a feature and 100+ comments everytime I post.
I expect 2 or 3.
haha, i usually get maybe 2. >_> I’m lame.
I’m happy if I get 1 comment a post. I think the most I’ve had is around 25. That was a happy week.
Only a few people really read my posts, so I don’t really expect any comments.
i dont expect any. but one would be great bc someone is interested.
I don’t expect any comments because I never get them. I usually have a truckload of footprints, though, from the most random places.
usually one.
two, if i get lucky.
Approx. 30 or so comments…get about 1000 prints a week depending on the post.
At least one is nice. As long as they don’t say something stupid or annoying. Then zero is nicer.
Honestly, I don’t expect any, but I hope for some, just to know people are reading and that they like posts. Most of the time I don’t care, because it is about something going on with me, and I don’t need response, I just need to vent or something.
I don’t get tons of comments or views, unless the post is something intended for the public to help them, otherwise I usually get none, except for from my best friend on occasions. I expect none, but happily welcome many.
just one…from you =D
one is good enough for me.
Don’t really expect a certain number. If they comment, that’s great, if they don’t then its okay too. No heartbreak, or rants about that with me xD.
3 or 4, if I’m lucky.
I don’t have expectations though. I like being happy with whatever I get.
it ranges on the quality of my post, anywhere from 30-100
I don’t expect anything
I am disappointed if I don’t at least get one. I’m not a xanga whore.
I don’t expect any cause i just started out on xanga and also because i am writing for me. Not really for anyone else.
Now, 0
before the break, 20
Not so much footprints. I like to see that my girlfriend from NY has been there so that is a specific footprint I look for. I hope for five but I hardly ever get that.
I use this space to write and communicate but it serves as a journal for me. So while I love comments I will continue whether I get comments. I only once time stamped a post because I edited it so much I thought I should repost it after I was done.
I get a ton of footprints from overseas. And Virginia. Someone in Virginia likes to read my blogs.
I hope for five comments is what I meant.
@relaxolgy - Yes, that is an interesting question!
2-4 is what I hope for. It doesn’t matter too much since most of my blogging is bitching and uninteresting.
Oneee
none-what-so-ever
I’m happily surprised to get one.
If it’s a worthy post, I like to get four, since that’s my favorite number…and I usually get close to that. If I get more than that, well I’m a pretty happy camper!
You shouldn’t expect anything. Just prepare for the unexpected.
I don’t really care who comments. If no one does then it doesnt matter. I don’t expect to get any and then I do. So, I am going with that expectation. NO ONE will comment.
one of i’m lucky. but i do get a lot of footprints. lol.
On a good post, 4-5 comments.
idk, a page worth?
in the film rocky horror picture show magenta sez i ask for nuthing master to which frankenfurter replyz then you shall receive it in abundance i dont write bekuz i want or xpekt commentz i write to write if sumbudy commentz thatz ok if they dont i hav still accomplished wat i set out to do furst thingz furst thatz my posting motto
1 comment from who is currently my only friend with a xanga
Anything is good enough for me.
Between one and three. Anything more makes me excited!
ha – usually none .
None, my blog is just putting my thoughts into a physical form so I can read them over another day to try to understand certain things. It’s very rare that I get a comment, but when I do they’re supportive.
5 cause i don’t know anyone!!
*cry*
none. i write for myself, but input’s nice every once in a while
and i’m anal about who sees it >_<
