  • Al Gore and Global Warming

Al Gore was scheduled to meet with a Senate committee to talk about the issue of global warming.

Unfortunately the meeting may get canceled due to freezing weather.  Here is the link:  Link

Is all this cold weather starting to convince you that global warming is a myth?

  • ha ha…that’s funny stuff.  No, I’d say it does exist.

  • I think it’s pretty ironic, personally.

  • no  but i’ve seen videos that have almost  convinced me otherwise..it’s hot in california :D

  • Nope ppl need to Google Harold Tafts work! He would have boofed Al on the head.

  • Of course not.  It’s winter.  Winter is supposed to be cold.

  • No lol… The idea of global warming is less that the whole world would get warm than that the parts of the world which are usually cold would get warm and the parts which are warm would get cold. Or at least that’s what I remember from part of An Inconvenient Truth…

  • We need to stop polluting our Earth.

  • i thought extreme temperatures in both directions was an indicator of the continued deterioration of the earth’s naturally occurring climate controls…

  • eh? im in north florida, its 70f here, there’s hardly winter here anymore

and al gore is a goof ball

  • I always thought Global warming was a myth.

    http://i44.tinypic.com/2qcf3er.jpg

  • i think you asked this last year…. :)

  • I’ve always believed it’s a myth.  Did a research paper on it in high school

  • Beats me whether global warming is real or not. I’m staying out of this. It’s almost as controversial as abortion.

  • No, not at all!

  • First of all.  Al Gore needs to just relax and stop worrying about what legacy he will leave.

Second, no, I don’t believe in global warming.  I think the earth simply goes in cycles.  We have been recording temperature for a very, very short period of time compared to the age of earth.  We see that the temperature has risen an average of a couple degrees over 100 years and we freak out.  Sorry, but I don’t buy it.  I think that it’s just another way for the government to be able to tell us what to do.

  • Wasn’t it just last winter that Al Gore had a talk in New York canceled because of record cold temperatures?

I never believed the hype about Global Warming.  If it were real, there would be more agreement on it and it would not be a journalist turned politician leading the charge on it.

  • @hannuuuuh - hahaha, I love that picture.

  • it has been really cold lately. i hope summer gets cancelled…if that didn’t sound stupid if it did ignore what i just said

  • No.

I’m a pretty firm believer in Globle Warming, regaurding my religious or political views. There is evidence. Whether or not it’s as visible to us as it is to some people, or animals, for that matter.

  • I think the right wing nuts who swear it’s fake are just silly. Now, if you have a viable, intelligent reasoning for believing it’s not real, then more power to you. But seriously- you can’t damage the earth as much as we have and not have some kind of repercussions. Whether it’s global warming or something else, ‘things ain’t what they used to be’… that’s for sure.

  • Are you kidding me? I thought it was crap from the beginning.

  • Being told that the world will freeze sometime in the future back in elementary school, and then being told in college that it would cook completely ruined the charade for me.

I love that the freezing weather is forcing Gore to reschedule his spiel on the earth cooking though. I hope he gets the irony of it all.

I like what former VP Dick Cheney had to say about Global Warming in this video (at about 2:39 in the video). Hilarious!

  • that’s hilarious. i’m not a right-wing nut, but i still think (and always have thought) that global warming is a bit ridiculous.

  • @Strong_Protector - haha, yeah, I thought it was pretty good.

  • Global Warming…

    Makes it snow?

  • No, it helps to explain why global warning is something we need to worry about. Since the ice caps are melting, the cold water and weather are becoming more centralized on different parts of the world.

  • @mrcolorful - AMEN! Here’s a mini vacay for you. Some where warm would be Nice.

  • nope. if anything it’s more convincing, because it means things are going out of balance.

  • yeah, global warming is happening. part of global warming is that the greenhouse gases emitted get trapped in the atmosphere, warming it up, and causing the polar ice caps to melt. this in effect screws up the currents of the oceans, casing the weather around earth to change (becoming warmer or colder in parts, depending.).

  • Given that temperatures worldwide have been going back down and that the polar ice caps are refreezing, it be time to re-examine some of the alarmist rhetoric out there. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t still care for the earth responsibly, but it’s looking less and less like some draconian measures some are fond of advocating need not be implemented.

  • Wow. Dan, I really hope you are just being silly because if you think that global warming only means that it gets warmer… well, I must over-estimate your intelligence. Global warming causes climate change. This includes unusually cold winters, extreme blizzards, and, yes, warming.

So no, the cold weather convinces me that global warming is here to stay.

  • Not really. I still believe that global warming is taking place.

  • @randomneuralfirings - I totally agree with you on the same point. Even if you disagree with global warming theories, we should still do our part to improve the quality of life on Earth. We shouldn’t have to be motivated by extreme climate changes or Al Gore’s monotone to make drastic changes in how we treat our environment.

  • “Climate change.”

  • I consider most things the extreme leftists like Al Gore say to be a myth.

  • I think enacting measures with the concern of “global warming” in mind is a great way for certain people to become extremely rich and another way for members of an elite class to control the masses.

did anyone remember the plot from “quantum of solace”. seems far-fetched, right?

and then not too long after, lawmakers are proposing a methane tax on cows.

I beleve in caring for our earth, preserving estuaries and not polluting marshes, bays, coral reefs.

but some of these “earth-friendly” initiatives are absurd.

i also find it hypocritical that these hollywood types fly in their private jets (which emit more carbon in a single trip than the average person’s automobile driven over an entire year) while wanting to reduce the releasing of CO2 into our atmosphere.
    http://www.privatejetsmagazine.com/2008/9-hypocrite-celebrities-with-huge-carbon-footprints/

want to know the biggest polluters among us? Try Mt. St. Helens, Kilauea, Okmok. oh wait, those are volcanos…

  • The term global warming is deceiving. Climate change doesn’t mean it is all going to get hot, some will get cold.

  • Not being able to see God convinces me there is no God.

Not seeing my dog transmutate to a cat, I am convinced that evolution is a big fat lie.

  • I don’t think it’s a myth, but I do think that it is way over exaggerated.  And I think Al Gore is ridiculous.

  • The thing to realize is that we are not saving the Earth by limiting pollution. We are saving humanity. There is a difference.

I think the only way people will be truely convinced is when the water starts covering Florida.

  • pretty ironic isn’t it?  I love it… Al Gore is a dim wit.

  • No… it gets cold during the winter- even with out gradually warming climate. :)

  • This is a normal cyclical winter.  Think back to the 70s (those of you who are “my” age).  When I was in high school, we had umpteen snow days and “cold” days… Then the winters got warmer and easier.  Now it’s a colder winter again – and two in a row.  It’s not all global warming causing these cycles, guys!  It’s how it was and how it is!

  • I don’t think it’s a myth but I don’t feel like the cold weather we’re getting it any colder.

  • Ha! While I’m sure that global warming is happening to a certain extent, I still have a very hard time accepting the fact that Al Gore is the poster child for it. Stupid flippin’ ManBearPig

  • Eh…  Whatever.

  • @TH1SL1F3 - you’re the dimwitted global warming denier. but hey, if you want to deny something with an enormous scientific consensus behind it, go ahead.

  • @BB61 - Do you also not believe theories with overwhelming scientific consensus behind them?

  • LOL – I posted a comment on facebook about this the other day.  The concept of global warming is interesting.  I don’t think it’s meant to suggest that our polluting is the SOLE cause of global warming – as history suggests, global temperature changes are commonplace… in fact, we are, supposedly, overdue for an ice age.  I think the suggestion behind global warming is that we are speeding up the process with our negligence.  As we pollute the earth with foreign, man-made chemicals and deplete its natural resources, we can’t possibly fathom the repercussions of it b/c there has been no precedence set.  And underneath the politically-inspired propoganda, there just might be some truth to the matter… and we shouldn’t be ignorant of that possibility.

  • ChritsiRepublicFaggot. No, it shows me you kill baby polar bears and you hate the earth and want everything to die.

  • @PSUnited1 - You should get that high school paper published. I’m sure it’d trump the scientific community’s brightest minds

  • Nah, we’re just headed for an ice age.

  • I DONT KNOW.

BUT THAT IS A VERY NICE SCENE IN YOUR PICTURE.

  • @ElDuderinoCA -  You and I will probably disagree about what ‘overwhelming’ means.   There is more than ample support that Mr. Gore’s view of the environment is extremist.    Then again, the left seems to think nuclear physicists know less about atomic power and put thier belief in the wisdom of Bruce Springsteen.

  • If they just called it “climate change”, it wouldn’t confuse stupid people so much.

  • Not when there is so many top scientists around the world that specialize is this topic saying global warming is a real threat.

  • 7:40 pm,,, jan 26th,,, i just came in from the park,,, im wearing a t shirt,,,, i notice the temp just dropped under 80,,, no global warming here,,,,,

  • I had the understanding that the Earth’s temperature rising could cause the ice caps to melt causing the temperatures to drastically change either colder or warmer.

  • nopee. It hasn’t been cold that long in socal

  • never believed it. stupid.

  • The kooky weather convinces me that global climate change, which is more accurate than global warming, is NOT a myth.

  • global warming doesn’t mean that cold weather isn’t going to happen. it means that things are causing the weather patterns to skew.

  • Global WARMING is so true.

  • global warming is crap.

i believe it is just natural progression.

  • I’ve always believed that global warming was a ridiculous propaganda tool. Also, scientists have admitted that the temperature of the earth is cooling and have theorized that the cooling (or heating, when that happens) is merely a stage of natural processes the earth goes through.

  • we do need to save the planet

  • Global warming will actually cool down much of the earth.
Melting ice will throw off our seasons, storms and climates so there will be higher highs and lower lows.

  • Eh, I don’t have an opinion either way.

  • global warming causes extreme winters and major droughts

    it’s just backing it up

  • Global warming and cooling have been a fact over the centuries.  The question is what is causing the fluctuations in temperature.

The Great Ice Age was 20,000 years ago and it certainly wasn’t caused by man, neither was the Mini Ice Age 10,000 years ago.

We live in a solar system that resides in a galaxy, that sits in a universe that we have no control over.

The global warming debate is more about politics than science.

  • I’ve always known it was created and blown out of proportion by politicians.

And things like ethanol that are supposed to solve global warming?  Yeah, turns out ethanol puts out more carbon dioxide than it removes.  The Amazon rainforest is being destroyed to grow sugar cane for ethanol.

  • I’m not sure what to believe, but it does seem that we’re going to both extremes more. There have been a lot of record-breaking natural disasters in the last few years.

  • didn’t you post a similar article in your photoblog about a year ago?

    i’m not a stalker i sweaar.

  • no.  global warming doesn’t necessarily mean every day across the board is going to be exactly one degree warmer or something- there are fluctuations.   Also, as the world warms the ocean currents (such as the gulf stream) will be re-routing, which will mean warm air will leave places it once was and go to other places it formerly wasn’t.  global warming is huge and can have numerous effects, including both warmer and colder weather, depending on your location.

  • read the research

do the math global warming izza fakt

  • No. Extreme temperatures in both directions are a part of the whole global warming thing.

  • This is like the third time Gore’s pulled this same stunt.

  • Global warming doesn’t necessarily mean that the atmosphere will always be warm. Instead it will change the climate so that summers get hotter and winters come later and colder. Also, rain will fall harder in tropical countries and there is a greater possibility of drought in places with usually dry climates. http://www.nytimes.com/library/national/science/051899sci-global-warming.html

  • global warming is one of the biggest SCAMS that has ever been pulled on the american public !  IT JUST SNOWED IN DUBAI for gods’ sake !!

  • It’s a little disconcerting reading over a lot of these comments by people in this thread who seem to think that there is a huge debate in the scientific community over whether global warming exists or not. The great majority of scientists who are experts in this area agree that global warming is occurring, the scientists who disagree with this assessment are in the distinct minority. The more heatedly debated arguement in the scientific community is not about whether global warming exists or even if human activity has contributed- the disagreement is in regards to what is the extent that human activity has contributed to global warming.

People who say things along the lines of “it’s snowing…global warming must be a scam!!” give me a headache.

  • @Strong_Protector -

You manage to contradict yourself throughout your comment. If you think that “the earth simply goes in cycles…. We see that the temperature has risen an average of a couple degrees over 100 years…” then you believe in global warming. This does not mean you have to agree with Al Gore on the extent that human activity has played in this global warming or his recommendations for countering global warming or that any action needs to be taken by governments to try and counteract this warming.

  • @Strong_Protector -  You are absoloutely correct. Humans aren’t causing global warming as much as the thing that keeps the Earth going… (the sun…)

@whataboutbahb -  I think what’s going on here is that there isn’t really a quick word in English for “Human-caused global warming,” so most people just say “global warming” instead. I think Strong Protector is trying to say that he doesn’t believe human activity is as large of a contributor as Gore and others have stated over the years. I agree, however, that the people who see snow and say ”warming isn’t happening!” are as annoying as Kat Williams.

  • I believe the earth goes through cycles.  After doing my research, that is the conclusion I came to.   Cycles also requires a hell of a lot of time…and temperature shift DOES NOT progress anywhere near as rapidly as Gore claims.  Do the research.

The kind of Global Warming that Gore is talking about is just a bunch of bull.

I would even say that the differences in definition between earth cycles and Gore’s Global Warming theory are so different, that when I talk about GW being a load of BS, I am specifically referring to Gore’s theory of it.

  • Global warming isn’t a myth. It’s just a matter of believing if it’s part of earth’s natural cycle or the fault of humans.

  • I believe in global warming but not the whole OMG IT’S HUMANITY’S FAULT part. I heard/read somewhere that these changes happen every couple billion years. Not sure if that’s true or not, but I don’t think we’re the biggest cause of global warming.

  • no . it’s starting to convince me that it’s winter .

  • That’s kinda funny, actually.

All the hot air comes from politicians; that’s why it’s cold now, because everyone has calmed down a little.

  • global warming is a myth and thus we dont need to clean up our environment and depending on foreign nations for oil is perfectly fine.

    duh.

  • THE SUN heats the earth more than anything else, including carbon. Besides, the ocean releases more carbon than any man made source. Pollution is bad, but it is not the principle cause of global warming. Look up the video, GLOBAL WARMING: SUN VS MAN. Actual scientist (not just rock stars and politicians with a vested interest) comment on their studied thoughts on global warming AND the inconvenient flaw of Gore’s movie.

  • NO!! This is a total misconception.
    I am not laughing.
I am driving on snow, and it was 70 two days ago; and I’m not laughing, I’m scared for our planet and more importantly our species.

  • GLOBAL warming, not “Air temperature warming.”  Granted, the AVERAGE temperature of our climate is warming, but it’s the oceans as well.

Global warming does NOT mean everything is just suddenly hotter all the time.  It causes extreme climate shift.

  • It didn’t take cold weather to convince me.  Personally, I think ‘global warming’ is coming from all the hot air that Gore is constantly spewing.  The whole thing is crap.  If anything, we’re headed for an ice age.

  • @valis10 - Amen to that.  I couldn’t agree more.

  • It is not a myth. Naysay all you want. The weather patterns are changing, that is why the temperatures in some places are more extreme, not necessarily hotter. Do your research with an open mind. We need to reduce our carbon footprint regardless, and quit cutting down trees and polluting our air and water. We create huge amounts of garbage that doesn’t break down.  It is not a matter of the government telling us what to do. It is a matter of us becoming informed and taking the right steps in each of our lives, such as recycling, for a start, and not consuming so much gas driving huge cars. The list goes on. Wake up.

  • If anecdotal evidence is insufficient to prove that global warming is real (and it is), then OF COURSE it’s insufficient to prove it’s a myth as well. Anyone who is “convinced” one way or the other based on his or her own experiences with the weather is simply being irrational.

Global Warming isn’t going to be real or not real because you said so. It is most likely to be real because the studies and analysis that has been done by people who have absolutely no reason to lie to you have found a warming trend that is best explained by a theory of man made impact on the environment. The math shows warming very much like we have experienced, with weather adjustments of global weather “weirding” just as predicted.  Whether the warming trend will continue is not known but seems likely given the evidence at hand and the best theories we currently have.

As more evidence appears, scientists will reevaluate their theories. That’s how science works.

  • @whataboutbahb - I don’t understand why you would point this out, lol.  You know that what I mean is that I don’t believe it is getting especially hotter than it has been at some point in time in earth’s history.

  • NO WAY!!!!!!! What its so cold is because of global warming!! It shouldn’t be cold in some places when it is..wait let me spell it out for ya

    GLOBAL WARMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Strong_Protector -

    You said:

“I don’t understand why you would point this out, lol.”

Because it gets annoying reading a string of comments about how global warming is so bogus, and then read comments who state they don’t believe in global warming but do believe the earth is currently warming….ummm what? I’m actually doing you a favor so hopefully you won’t come off as a dumbass in the future by stating two things that contradict each other. Belief in global warming does not necessitate belief in Al Gore.

“You know that what I mean is that I don’t
believe it is getting especially hotter than it has been at some point
    in time in earth’s history.”

This is a pretty broad category that includes scientists who believe strong action must be taken and scientists who believe the opposite. Bad shit could go down with the earth warming no hotter that it has at some point in the past, so this statement has no real specificity on where a person should stand on the issue.

  • it’s a nice, sunny 75 here in central california.  usually it’s about 30 or 20 this time of year…january is suppose to be our coldest month.

  • global warming isn’t just about the earth getting warmer. so I’d say no, it doesn’t convince me. global warming is real.

  • It does exist. To an extent.

These things go in cycles. In the 60s or 70s I believe that there was a global freezing scare and I’m sure this cycle of fear over hot and cold has gone on for as long as people have been worried about the weather.

  • An annoying debate..

  • @whataboutbahb - Honestly, I don’t think you were trying to save me from looking like a dumbass, I think you were the one trying to make me look like a dumbass.  I’m not writing a study for a scientific journal, I’m writing a little comment on xanga.  It’s not a big deal, and people knew what I meant.  I do know that what you said was right, but at the same time you know what I meant as well.  So, I’m sorry if I offended you at all.

  • Pssh, I was convinced of that a loooooong time ago…

  • It’s ironic, but I think this further proves the existence global warming due to these extreme (and inconsistent!) weather conditions.

  • Global Warming:  All negative weather events used for wrongly incriminating man’s carbon emissions as the primary causative factor.

Global Warming:  The context used to postulate that by using the force of law (by authority rather than reason) to ensure its promoter become filthy stinking rich, the climate will acquiesce to become marginalized like the human masses subjugated by the climate alarmists.

Global Warming:  A divisive tool used by financial and social interest to create the conditions and restrictions defining how profits (the rich and super-rich) and who toils to ensure their profitability (consumers and the poor).

Global Warming:  The greatest fraud in modern human history.

  • no, it convinces me that global warming is real.  global warming doesn’t just make the entire world hotter, it results in massive climate change.  it’s the reason weather patterns have been abnormal.  southern california, although typically warmer than most parts of the US, was 80+ degrees for more than a week in the middle of january which is not at all normal.

i can’t believe some of the responses, hasn’t anyone heard about the polar ice caps?  global warming is not a hoax, the argument against it was.  the need to “seek more scientific support” was the government’s attempt to delay the major changes necessary to combat global warming because of the consequences it would have on our already faltering economy (the bush administration tried to hide so much); the government finally declared in 2007 that global warming is real and caused by our own wasteful activity that has accumulated over the generations.

  • @David - FLAWED argument.  Show some support.

  • No, Global warming exist.  It is real, no doubt about that!

  • @simplyemmy -  i live in san diego and go to brawly to find fossels there. The fossels i find are sea shells from when it was under the ocean. sientice find fossels of tropical plants in the canada. think about that, it was alot warmer than it is now and we were not around how do you explain this. GLOBAL WARMING IS NOT A MAN MADE THING it has been warming and cooling for millons of years ( roughly 5000 years if you are are hardcore bible belivere. now could we be speeding up a natrual event  yes i think so. can we ever stop it complete no.

  • Cold?  You are not in California, its been unseasonably warm and dry here.

Global Climate Change is the better term to use.

  • Global Warming isn’t hype! I’m throughly alarmed at how many people are still remaining ignorant to this issue.

  • @Strong_Protector - I agree.

IMO, all this “carbon footprint” panic is just a desperate attempt to stay in the spotlight by Al Gore.

  • I find it funny….

Many of the people who believe that global warming is a problem also believe we’ve gone through ice ages and whatnot.

If some sort of “global warming” is occurring, that would be just part of the cycle you claim we’re on.

  • al gore is..well..let’s just say i never believed in that global warming crap anyways. it’s a big scare tactic. in other words, “it’s a conspiracy, man!”

  • Part of Global Warming is the severity in the storms we’re having all of a sudden. Hurricanes are more frequant and stronger and there are more snow storms in many places than before. Althought I think Al Gore is a douche I do infact believe in Global Warming and think if you ignore it you’re an idiot. Just my opinion.

MANY OF THE WORST CASES OF RACIAL PREJUDICE IN WORLD HISTORY!

    LONG LIVE PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA!

Barack Obama is a racial minority and does not like racism:

WORLDWIDE DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION RELATING TO SCANDALS:

    (I) I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that George W. Bush committed atrocious, racist, hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism which I am not at liberty to mention. Many people know what Bush did. And many people will know what Bush did—even until the end of the world. Bush was absolute evil. Bush is now like a fugitive from justice. In any case, Bush will go down in history in infamy.

(II) It is opined that Bill Clinton committed terrifying, racist, hate crimes during his presidency, and I am not free to say anything further about it. ‘Be sure your sins will find you out’ (Numbers 32:23).

(III) What if basically all racial minority people would subscribe to the interpretations that George Herbert Walker Bush committed monstrous, racist, hate crimes while he was the President of the United States? It will eventually come out: it is only a matter of time.

(IV) I know it may be hard to believe. However, Ronald Wilson Reagan committed horrible, racist, hate crimes during his presidency.
