Lying About Your Age
I was just reading an article about famous people lying about their age. Here is the link: Link
I mentioned on my site a few years ago about how I knew a guy who was married to a woman for about 60 years. When she died, he found out she was 6-7 years younger than she had told him. She was somehow able to keep it a secret for that long. I asked him if he had ever questioned it and he told me one time he saw her I.D. and it said the wrong age and he asked her about it and she made up some sort of excuse. He said he did not give it a second thought.
Have you ever lied to someone about your age?
Comments (105)
i’ve never lied about my age. but some people have assumed i’m three-four years older than my actual age, and when i tell them how old i am, they think i am lying.
I’m 32.
Once when I was 12 to get into a movie
nope!
Yes. When I was younger, I used to say I was older so people would not treat me like a child.
Madonna is a mean oldie
There, I lied about my age. First time, I hope you’re happy.
no, but everyone thinks I am 3-5 years younger then what i am.
I’m a little boy and I’m four. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
When I was little, I used to pretend I was older so I could chill with the big kids at day care. hahahah
no.
No, but I’ve never tried to buy beer.
Yes, for cheaper entrance. And I haven’t told my real age in many situations where people assumed I was younger.
yea, it backfired on me! some guy on the bus (many many moons ago) asked me how old i was. i was 16 at the time. i was debating if i should’ve lied to either say im 14-15 (so he’d leave me alone) or should i have said im 18 (so that he’d think i KNOW better about pervs like him). i lied and said i was younger lol, and he continued to “harrass” me, gave me his # and everything. the bus driver had to stop him from getting off at the same stop as me.
No, but they always think I am. “There’s no way you’re 19!” *eye roll*
No.
Not yet but I am only 29.
“London society is full of women of the very highest birth who, when given the choice, have chosen to remain thirty-five for years.”
ahaha, sorry, i couldn’t resist.
Once.
My brother wanted to see if they would I.D. me to get into a bar and they just asked how old I was in a joking manner, then let me in.
Haha but they carded him
No… I have told someone that I was younger because I actually forgot how OLD I AM… that wasn’t pleasant… especailly when I had to mentally realise the right age… OY
Nope. I could careless about the number of my age.
yeah but no one significant
No, but I don’t think I’ve ever needed to.
i once said i was 18 when i was 20 so that i could get into a minor’s club to watch a band. i’m not a predator.
no i haven’t.
to get into a movie or into certain places that didn’t allow people who were a certain age
and once in Chuck E. Cheese.
Can you believe they had an age limit for the ball pit!?
In the past, yes. People think that I don’t fit with my age, they said that I still look like a sophomore in high school. I haven’t really change much during the four years there. Even if I told them my real age, they sometimes don’t actually believe me.
Not since I turned 21.
I sometimes ask “Did you remember my senior citizen’s discount?” Sometimes I get the discount. Other times I get the thrill of being too young for it.
nope, when I turned 18 I went into a mall and sat on the massage chair. They asked me I was eighteen and I said yes
Online– all the time. (To web sites at least). I try to guard my online privacy and age/birthday can be an important identification marker.
In person, I don’t care enough about appearances to actually lie about myself.
Not since I was a minor
yeah, to get into rated R movies… =X
I’ve rushed my age, but never really lied about it. I’ve been saying that I’m 20…but my birthday’s not for another 4 days in actuality >.>
Nope. I’m usually pretty honest about simple things such as that.
the only time i can ever remember lying about my age is when i use to try and buy cigs when i was 17.
it never worked =[
to buy cigarettes when I wasn’t of age to properly buy them and to get into bars when I was 16 and to go to clubs when I was 15; worked fine, now I get ID’d all the time and it’s just silly… oh and to get wierdos to leave me the eff alone when I was younger I’d always say I was younger then I was sickos!
Nope. I’ve never seen the point/had a reason to.
No…what’s the point?
Sometimes I do, to fuck with people, or if I don’t want them to have real information about me.
Nope,…. I’m 24, a perfect age!
18 = access to pr0nz.
no, i ususally have to correct people because they think i’m older than i am. they guess about 22.
Gave this comment a second thought…
Yes, yes I have.
Yes. When I was 13, I told people I was 16.
i lie all the time about my age. I say I prematurely greyed. I don’t want to be the old guy at the club!
I don’t think I have. But I’ve had people think I was older than I really was … not necessarily a good thing??
I’ve never lied about my age, never had a reason to. What I don’t understand is why the average person would say they’re younger than they are. Unless it’s a small difference of a year or maybe two, people are liable to think you’ve aged poorly. If you’re gonna lie about your age, why not tell people you’re older than your real age?
No I havn’t lied about my age. But now that I am getting older I am thinking that might not be such a bad idea
when i wanted to get a liquor when i was 16
no but my boyfriend told me that he was a year older than he actually was and didn’t tell me the truth until almost a year later when he was in a drunken stupor passing out. haha.
once when I was 13. I said I was 15.
@DrugInducedDuck - Yeah, that nose does add twenty years.
@drakonskry - The nose plays, man
never,,, i was 29 last year,,, ill be 29 next year,,, why lie???
yes.
the 2nd to the last guy I dated thought I was a year older than I really was.
the only reason the last guy knew my real age is because he was my bestie’s brother.
today I made up a story about how I’m from Massachusetts, because someone thought it was weird that I was eating ice cream on a chilly day.
Hell no when your bald like the Bear its next to impossbile to lie about ones age
I’m so old I have to do math to figure out just how old I am.
Nah, I don’t lie about it, I just avoid answering impertinent questions about it.
If I want more respect, I say I’m 24 or 25. It’s a technically a bit of a stretch (I’m 19), but I smoke a lot so I look a bit older anyway, hehe.
I used to…now I lie about my children’s age
wait, was she 6-7 years YOUNGER than what she told him, or OLDER?
if some 24 year old told me she was 31, i’d be like, ok whatever floats your boat (:
A lot.
nope. my age doesn’t bother me.
I never really had to.
Yes. I always lie about being younger..since I was a kid, I hated/hate getting older…
I was reading that same article today instead of working on math. Akon reminds me of Seal in a way…
Anyway, some people think I’m two-three years older than I am, and sometimes I forget how old I am but I’ve never lied, I don’t think.
All the time…every time!
Yeah, I didn’t want the guy to think I was of age. So I crushed his hopes.
i dont lie about my age lying is bad xP
to go clubbing and to get out of talking to the principal for longer than a second
No but then I never really saw the point. I am curious though on how gender will effect the responses to this question.
Nope. People just assume that I’m older than I really am.
Nope.
Once when I was 15 someone thought I was a college student. But that could have been because I was in a public place during school hours. I homeschool and was campaigning, which was part of my school that year. W00t for learning about government.
I’m the kind of person who can’t tell a straight lie. I can’t ever remember lying, at least not in jest. Half-truths, yeah, but not full lies.
i have, although i don’t anymore.
at the movies, i got the kid price for a loooong time. same at the race track. i had to stop saying i was 12 once i started driving to these places, though. >.<
Nope. I look way too young for my age (which didn’t help me in my teaching career, for sure!).
Yes, sometimes I say that I am 12 to get the childs rate at the cinema. That’s usually when I get kicked out…
I still get most women thinking I’m around 15. I correct them, and say that I really am 5 (almost 6) years older than their guess.
Never had any reason to.
lol. when the situation calls for it..but not usually.
Only for the important stuff; Beer and R-rated movies (they used to take your word for it).
I used to have a real problem with it. When I was twelve and thirteen I used to talk to out-of-state friends-of-friends and such and lie about my age..I said I was like 15 and 16. One guy fell in love with me, and still, to this day, he doesn’t know my real age – although he might suspect. Even before that, I used to go into chatrooms and tell people I was 19 and 20. I broke one guy’s heart that way.
I haven’t done it for four or five years now. The last time I did it was mostly unintentional, due to confusion with my starting date for my current job. (The job required 16 years, and I vouched to start on my birthday, but the manager didn’t understand that. That wasn’t really a lie though.)
It’s sad. I don’t do it anymore though. I’ve realized that it was stupid to hate my real age so much I had to lie about it. And I’m really not “that girl”. I’m not fake and I don’t ever need to lie about myself.
Yes, but I made it very obvious that could not possibility be my real age. This is my way of stopping them from keep asking me what’s my age.
I have. <_< Anyone younger than 18 wasn’t allowed to hold a puppy at the pet store.. so I told them I was 18. They believed it. Too bad for them that they didn’t check my ID.
Now I have an ID to prove it because now I’m 18. wo0p di doo.
naw people think im lying though cause im short >.<
no one wants to believe im 18
What’s the point? I haven’t, but my grandmother wound up shaving almost 2 decades off her age and no one ever questioned it. My sister seems to have stopped aging at 29.999…, don’t think I’ll follow in their footsteps.
i dont need to. people can never seem to tell how old i am. i’ve gotten guesses from 13-28 in the past few years, and i’m 22.
I’ve had no reason to. Though when people take a guess, they usually get it wrong. For instance, my managers at my previous job were surprised to learn I was 21 at the time. They’d believed me to be 17. While on the other end of the spectrum, my coworkers thought I was around 25. (I’m 22 now, btw)
I never lie about my age. However, people mistake me for being 3-4 years younger than I really am and that leaves them incredulous.
Never lied about it. A few times, however, I kept quiet and allowed someone else’s presupposition about my age play out. When I was first teaching at the college, on a couple of occasions a trustee approached me and talked to me as if I were a student, and I didn’t let on that I was a professor. When I was a sophomore in high school, I allowed the other seniors in one of my classes to think I was a senior transfer until one of them made it clear she was interested in dfating me, and I then let her know. (I wasn’t going to date her on false premises.)
Most of the time, when I was a teen, I was mistaken for being 2 to 5 years older than I was. Starting in my early 20s, I started being mistaken for being 2 to 5 years (or more) younger than I was. (Between the two age ranges, I didn’t age that much in appearance.) Nowadays, though, with my hair going gray and falling out, there isn’t much confusion about my age (46), and that is fine with me.
I have not corrected people who have thought that I was either older or younger than my actual age but never outright lied about it.
I’ve lied about my age quite a few times. I look much younger than I really am, so I take advantage of it. Though, my husband knows exactly how old I am!
Nope but then again I’ve never needed to.
yeah all the times, I tell people I am 67 or 354 yrs old but nobody believes me..=/
I might have lied as a kid so my parents could get me in someplace for a cheaper price. Since then I’ve had little reason to lie about my age. I’ve never been interested in getting into bars, etc.
I have not had to lied about my age, but now that I am pushing 40 I sometimes consider it.
Nope, I never have.
Nope. But my uncle’s girlfriend lied about her age. She always said she was only 5 years older than my uncle, but it wasn’t until she died of an aneurysm that we found out her real age was actually 8 years older than that. Meaning, she was actually 13 years older than my uncle. Creepy. When we saw her real date of birth on the little funeral cards at the funeral home, we thought it was a mistake at first. But, it wasn’t.
I’ve been lying about my age since I was born.
Nope
I used to lie about my age all the time to get into R rated movies or to buy cigs. but now that i am 19, i haven’t lied about my age in a while. though if someone guesses wrong, i don’t correct.
NO
no i prefer to be accepted for my true self and i am honest about myself to a fault.
Nope.
My aunt did the same thing! She said she was like 2 years younger than he was, when really she was 2 years older, and never told her husband her true age. She thought he would care! I couldn’t imagine my husband not knowing my age.
I don’t think I’ve ever lied about my age, not even to get into a movie when I was younger.
Only for the discounts. I look younger
