  • Looking Like a Slut

A teacher is coming under fire for telling a 13 year old girl that her skirt made her look like a slut.  Here is the link:  Link

Here is the girl wearing the skirt:

Does the skirt make the girl look like a slut?

  • It’s kinda short for a 13 year old….

  • She’s wearing a skirt?

  • It doesn’t tell me she’s NOT a slut…?

  • definitely too short and comes off as slutty but really inappropriate for the teacher to tell her so.

  • Too short. If she sits, there’s nothing to cover her butt. So, sort of.

  • Well, that teacher really shouldn’t be using that kind of language in regards to students regardless.  Common sense, please?

  • I do think a skirt that short on anybody is quite inappropriate, but i also think the teacher should have been a little more tactful in telling the student. Maybe.

  • YEah… not sure I’d tell her that. I might tell her it’s inapproprate.

  • While it is kind of short for a 13 year old, that definitely does not give a teacher the right to say it makes her look like a “slut”. That is degrading. A better way [to cover the teacher's ass] might have been simply to tell the girl that the skirt is “inappropriate”.

Teenage girls go through enough name-calling. I know I was called a slut by enough of my peers. I think it would have crushed me, if a teacher called me one.

  • well, if she puts out her fingers to her side and her skirt is shorter than her fingers…its sending kind of a bad signal that a lot of people would consider slutty for school. I dont think that length is appropriate for highschool

The techer was out of line for telling the girl she looked like a slut, she should have said it was innaprpriate or something along those lines.

  • even if the kid looks like one, as a teacher she shouldn’t say that to a 13-year-old but use some kind of method to convey her message.

  • Hmmm. It is rather short for her age, but I’d like to think that her actions should speak louder than her clothes. Does she act like a slut? (not cross her legs, bends over, not wear underwear)

  • well, what did she expect.

  • What a teacher…

  • I might want to have a talk with not only the teacher but also the parents.

  • I think calling her a slut is inappropriate for a teacher, but the skirt is too short!

  • To all those people who are saying that the teacher should have said it differently:

She did. She told the 13 year old to roll it down, but she was ignoring her, so she decided to get her attention. Btw, 13 year olds know the word slut and probably use it daily. Maybe if the kid had listened to the teacher the first few times sh told her to roll it down, she wouldn’t have been called a slut.

  • I think all the coverage on top brings extra attention to the bottom half.  She should atleast make some balance between the two.  Strangely it would probably help things out.

  • Oh hell, I wore skirts like that when I was in school. Oh wait… I was a slut!

  • it’s short but the teacher should have phrased it better!

  • Well what the teacher said was inappropriate she could have said it a little bit different.

But no thirteen year old should be walkin around with her tooshy hangin out either.

    *sigh*

  • no, i don’t think so. teachers need to know which words to use when reprimanding students.

  • What does a slut look like anyway?  I think the teacher is obviously directing her own insecurities and bitterness at someone and it just happens this student was her target.  Even if her outfit would be deemed inappropriate at that school there are more professional ways of dealing with it than making some derogatory remark.

  • She doesn’t have the legs for a short skirt. Maybe the teacher felt the same way.. you know.. dont flaunt it if ya dont got it… She does look kind of slutty for a thirteen year old.

  • I sure wouldnt let my 13 year old daughter wear it to school, but the teacher should have used different words to let her know it was too short.

  • Slut is a strong word to be used with caution.  But I don’t think it is inappropriate with a skirt that short.  Everybody needs to get over themselves, in general.  Too much drama.  Let’s get to work!

  • Is the skirt too short for ANY minor? Yes

Is the teacher completely in the wrong? Hell yes and it should cost the teacher their job.

  • It is pretty short.  But I don’t think the teacher had a right to say that.  Slut is a bit harsh…

  • that is tooo short

  • I didn’t even notice that she was wearing a shirt at all. Kinda just looked like a long jacket. Maybe it wasn’t right for the teacher to say she looked like a slut. But I think something needed to be said.

  • If it is shorter than your fingertips outstretched, it’s too short.

That DEF. looks shorter than her fingertips.

  • Slutish, I would say but I’ve seen much worse.

  • for a 13 year old… it’s too short. but a teacher shouldn’t call a student a slut, that’s just a lawsuit waiting to happen.

  • Ummmmm…. no.  Not really slutty.  Looking where her hand falls at her side, it’s not *that* short (if she extended her fingers, it might be slightly shorter than her longest fingers, but it’s hard to tell).  Maybe not best for school, but not that bad compared to some things people wear these days.  And the big baggy shirt is not slutty, so whatever.

  • I like the teacher’s blunt approach, to be honest.

  • Its super slutty. What makes it worse is her being 13.

  • Obviously the girl was not willing to listen to the teacher the first time around about lowering the skirt… The girl does not look appropriate in the skirt that short and she did not really call her slut… She did not say you are a slut for wearing like that, but that she look like one. The comment was inappropriate, but the girl was not listening and dressed inappropriately… They both were out of line for their behavior and comments.

  • The basic question here is the fundamental role of the teacher. In school, a teacher isn’t merely an instructor; he or she is also responsible for the child’s general well being. Somtimes, harsh words is necessary in getting the point across.

On face, “slut” seems inappropriate. Its useage is crass, and there’s a definite sexual connotation.

But it helps that the teacher is a married older woman. And the context is the persistance of the young woman dressing inappropriately for school. How inappropriate the comment is depends on the larger context and the particular situation– we have to be there to know for sure.

A thirteen-year-old is old enough that she doesn’t need to be constantly coddled.

  • it definitely doesn’t scream, “i am a nice 13 year old girl”  my parents would NOT have let me wear something like that at that age.   they were pretty strict about things as long as i still lived with them.

  • She’s 13? Good lord kids grow so fast. Some Catholic skirts are just as bad. The teacher shouldn’t have said that however. Here the school clothing code skirts and shorts have to be fingertip length. If your fingertips don’t touch your knee from the bottom hem of your skirt or shorts put it back in the closet girlies.

  • That skirt is definitely a lil too short for a 13 year old…

  • after reading the article, it sounds like it may have been a discriminatory comment towards that student.

  • It makes her look pretty dumpy.

  • Teacher definitely used the wrong choice of words.

I don’t think it’s TOO short.  It looks like it goes down to her finger tips.. however, I’m not really into long skirts unless you’re fat.. but yeah, whateva.  My girls won’t be wearing skirts

The look on her face is what makes her look slutty.
    The end.

  • Doesn’t make her look……not like a slut. So, sure, she’s a slut. Seriously though, she’s 13. That’s creepy. I hate the kids today.

  • it’s slutty, she should have just listened to the teacher when she asked her to lengthen her skirt the first time when she refused that’s when the teacher got frustrated to the point of saying those hurtful things.

So in a way she deserved it!

  • yeah. she does. i go to school with a bunch of these girls. ;D she looks like a slut. and the teacher was right. or maybe elli_monkey was right… :D

  • That girl doesn’t have the legs for a short skirt, I don’t think, and it is kind of on the short side. I would have made her change if I were her mother. The teacher, however, should have told her it was inappropriate in a different way.

  • well, i wouldn`t go and call her a slut– but i sure would tell her no one will take her seriously at school or elsewhere when she wears it…

  • The teacher shouldn’t have used that word, but yes that girl looks like she’s advertising something.

  • Pretty much. Last time I saw a girl wearing too short a skirt in school, the teacher gave an exaggerated gasp and went “My dear! Wear more clothes!” I think that went down a lot better.

  • @huginn - Oh, god, I remember you. Harsh words coming from a teacher? That’s bullshit. I’m sorry, but a teacher doesn’t get to speak to a student like they are their child. They are simply an instructor who has to see that the child learns something every day, not a caretaker who has to watch their every move.

  • The skirt is too short. I see this all the time with the highschool students walking around & you can pretty much see their underwear. Which isn’t cool. I wouldn’t say slut….But I would say that they are wearing them too short & it makes them non-classy.

I think the teacher shouldn’t have said it quite like that or shouldn’t have said anything at all.

  • Define slut…

too short for her age? maybe for schooling but other than that, she can wear whatever she want.

The teacher? the school needs to send the teacher for training or consultation. The school is going to lose a lot of money to pay damages on lawsuits, if this teacher is out of control.

  • @revolveloverocknroll22 - Oh, god, I remember you. Harsh words coming from a teacher? That’s bullshit. I’m sorry, but a teacher doesn’t get to speak to a student like they are their child.

    Why not?

They are simply an instructor who has to see that the child learns something every day, not a caretaker who has to watch their every move.

The United States Supreme Court would disagree.

  • is that really the girl?  if so, it isn’t the skirt that makes her look slutty.

Seriously, that was inappropriate for the teacher to say that.  The teacher should have been more professional about it.

  • I wouldn’t let my daughter wear a skirt of that length but the teacher was definitely out of line.

  • @hugxlaughxsmilexlove - I agree, the look of “come get some” on her face is worse than the skirt.

  • Yes. If I were her mother she would not have left the house in that at all.

  • she looks like a slut, but the teacher should not have said it that way. she could have just said it’s too short.

  • Yeah, kind of sad slutty though. Like a lost chihuahua.

  • For a 13 y/o?  And this was at school… so my answer would have to be YES.  But the teacher could’ve used a better word than slut lol

  • That skirt would get a lot of older guys in trouble – so in a way – yes.

  • I used to have a teacher that told girls that they were dressing like whores. when she said it it sounded like Whoors.

    it was funny every time.

  • wat duzza slut look lyke im alwayz pretty amazd @peoplez valu judgmintz based on klothing & makeup  i may not lyke her style but that duznt stop her frum being a gud person

  • Why is it that I read the most awkward posts right when it says there are 69 comments?

To answer your question: I don’t care and neither should the teacher unless the girl was deliberately trying to cause a disturbance.

  • That girl looks too old to be in uniform. She looks like shes 28!

  • i think the overall look is very unattractive, not pleasing for a young girl. It is too short, but the teacher was very very unprofessional. She could have came at her another way.

  • The skirt is kinda short for a 13 year old. But I don’t think the teacher should have said that to the student.

    ~Alexx

  • i have a skirt shorter than that….

  • Her entire look…looks trashy…

  • It is DEFINITELY too short to be appropriate, especially for a thirteen year old. But the teacher used the word “slut”? THAT is inappropriate too.

  • If that’s the top she was wearing with it, she doesn’t look like a slut.

I always figured that a low cut or tight top was okay
And short skirts/shorts or tight/low jeans were okay
Just as long as the two weren’t worn together.

  • This was a British school and there is no indication about the funding of this school in the article. I would say in a private school anything goes, right? Corporal punishment, uniforms, etc. That’s what mommy and daddy are paying for. In a public school teachers are expected to behave as if they are serving the lowest common denominator, i.e. hands off my kids and keep your opinions to yourself.

The look is no good, but in most American public schools this would pass without comment from faculty – any teacher making such a comment would likely be hauled up in front of the school board, dressed down and fired.

It is common knowledge that British people hate their kids, so this is not so shocking. That the teacher apologized probably means there was some public funding involved and a lot of bad press.

  • That skirt is a bit short. Not just for a 13 year old, but for anyone really. Still, it wasn’t really appropriate for her teacher to call her a slut.

  • The teacher could have just told her the skirt was inappropriate…but it is too short for her I think…I mean for a 13 year old.

  • What I have never understood is how girls can sit/move around in skirts like that without showing everything and leaving nothing to the imagination.

At any rate, I don’t think degrading terminology is a good tactic for handling such a situation, otherwise it tends to becom a self-fulfilling prophecy. The teacher should have called the parents and sent the girl home for them to deal with it.

    @msbutterfli - Yes!

    @Czolya - haha, me too.

@Maroon_5_Best_Fan - Sounds like “slut” is exactly what she was going for.

@elli_monkey - So much the worse if she did have the legs for it. Wearing a too-short skirt is no less slutty if your legs are attractive, because it sends the same message.

  • Finger length. Finger length!

  • If that were my daughter, I wouldn’t let her out of the darn house wearing something like that.  If she wants to dress like a porn star, she better be ready to take the verbal flack.

  • It was unprofessional of the teacher to call the girl a slut. It might have been better if she hinted that the attire might make other people feel uncomfortable around her. It should still be up to her parents to say what attire is ok for school/outside.

  • It’s way too short for school.  And, yes, she does look like a slut.

  • Is that the girl?

    The 13 year old?

  • PS: When are you going to write about Chris Brown beating Rihanna?

  • The teacher used the wrong words but the girl does look like she’s asking for it really. I mean girls at my school have shorter skirts than that but the teacher would simply say roll your skirt down thats too short it’s supposed to be knee length

  • I don’t think so.

  • Well, I read the original article, and the situation in which the teacher caught the girl wearing the short skirt was when she was stacking chairs in the cafeteria.

In my honest opinion – the skirt is too short.  She’s 13 – not 23, it’s too short – and especially when it’s for school????  But then when I read the article – I was even more shocked and can understand the teacher’s impetus for requesting her to unroll her skirt so it would be lower.  Stacking chairs would also imply that she was bending over or bending down (I actually remember doing this from my middle school.)

But the comment about looking like a slut was overdoing it.  And the cellulite comment, even though it was a birthmark, is definitely over the line.

Kids today are too soft and we are so PC-obsessed – but I actually applaud the teacher for telling it like it is!

  • No, that face makes that girl look like a slut.

  • The teacher shouldn’t have used the word “slut”, but I do think the skirt is too short.

    Kathi

  • I’ll be the first to admit that in high school, I would tell my friends that girls wearing skirts as short as hers were sluts too. But, I wasn’t a teacher. Yes, the skirt’s way too short, but that doesn’t give the teacher any excuse to tell her she looks like a slut. There are many other ways she could have gotten the girl’s attention than by using offensive terms.

  • That skirt is way too short for that 13 year old. Totally out of line. Then again, so was the teacher. You shouldn’t use that language. A simple “That doesn’t fit the dress code” would get the job done.

@elli_monkey - and i definitely agree with you, not to sound like a jerk for judging a 13 year old girl.

  • It’s definitely too short.  Should I have a daughter, she won’t be leaving the house in something that short!  Regardless, the teacher should’ve used a more tasteful approach.

  • the teacher was TOTALLY out of line with that comment, but the girl does look like a ho fo sho, ecpecially being 13 and wearing that!!

  • Regardless of how the skirt makes the girl look, the teacher shouldn’t be using that language in front of her. It isn’t professional. But then again, slut isn’t a word anyone should use in order to describe someone’s appearance. Honestly, I don’t think a 13 year old should be using a skirt as short as that. If she wants attention from wearing it, then she got it alright. <_<

  • Yeah, too short, too slutty. Though I’m sure that’s what the kid wanted.

  • yes!  a 13 year old girl shouldn’t be dressing like that…to school.  but then again, she’s looking at the camera all seductively.  eh.

but, that doesn’t make it okay that the teacher said that.

  • So are cheerleaders sluts? they even show their belly buttons!

  • I think her nasty hair and f’ed up face make her look like a slut.  The skirt is just the topping on the cake.

  • It’s not that bad… but then again, she is 13… But no teacher has the right to say something like that to a girl so young!

  • Hmmm. As my old history prof would refer to some essay answers, I think it suits well for her choice of clothing: “There’s not enough material to cover the ‘subject’“.

  • It’s too short and she doesn’t have the legs for it – but calling her a slut was a little too far.

  • totally. she does look like a slut. thats way too short.

  • It’s awfully short for a 13 year old. but I don’t think it is appropriate for a  teacher to tell a student that they look like a slut. The teacher should’ve called the parents and expressed her concern in a more constructive manner.

  • I would never let my daughter wear a skirt until she graduates college -_-

    that’s if i’ll ever have kids… lol

and yes it’s too short/slutty… esp for a school uniform cripes!!!

  • That teacher was unprofessional and wrong using that terminology. She should have told the child that her skirt was inappropriately short in a less vulgar manner.

  • a teacher should not say things like that to a student , but yes i do beleave that the skirt is to short

  • If you can’t bend over in the skirt without showing your butt or who-who, then there’s a big problem. Yeah. To some it may sound mean or rude for the teacher to say that to the girl, but who else was going to say it? I would totally tell my daughter that if she came out wearing a skirt that short. Where is the modesty these days? My husband actually saw a girl wearing really, really short shorts, and he said she looked skanky. Men notice and think these things, too.

Where are the values today? Where are the parents who are supposed to be teaching them to the kids?

  • if she’s not a slut she wearing a sluts uniform. How you dress tells people alot about who you want them to think you are. The teacher could have handled it better but i’d say something to her.

  • I can’t see the skirt.

  • I’m concerned about this picture. Um… who takes pictures like that of the 13 year old?? I mean, the over the shoulder, leg bent as if walking away pose?? Really?? And what do her parents think of this shot? “Yeah, sweetie… there’s a huge controversy over your skirt, so we’re going to submit a subtly provocative photo to the media outlets to PROVE that you’re just an innocent angel!”

  • I think the real question is. Why is this 13 year old girl allowed to leave home with a skirt so short?

My next question, do those qualify as cankles???

  • lol no

especially since she contradicts the slut part with her nun top

  • go back to the 60′s, theiir minis werent so long

  • I support burka’s for all….that will take care of the skank problem

  • the skirt looks short, but the teacher was wrong for saying what she said.

  • Her parents let her leave the house like that?

I’m not going to say she looks like a slut because sluts can look conservative too but I will say that that is a little too short for a 13 year old girl to be wearing.  Hell, I’m 20 and I don’t think that is okay for me to wear.  Out in public anyways.  lol

That is one of those things I wll not allow my step daughter or any future daughters [or sons if that's what they are into] wear.

  • I thought that was Rashida Jones.

  • she doesnt even look 13 wtf

  • Maybe, if she bent over a little bit more…

  • That skirt is too short for a 13 year old, but the teacher should’ve used.. better language.

  • sexual promiscuity is cool .

  • Yes. She looks like a slut.

  • If I were a teacher, I wouldn’t have used the word “slut”, but yes….. I think she does.  That is way too short…. especially for a 13 year old!  As if it’s not difficult enough for 13 year old boys to control their hard ons… let’s give them something like that to look at.

  • …YES! But, my perspective may be a little off, since anything above the knee is considered inappropriate according to my school’s dress code. If a girl came to my school with her skirt that short, she’d be sent home.

  • i think it’s her face that makes her look like a slut

  • the skirt is definitely too short, but at the fragile age of 13, (or any age for that matter) it is NEVER going to help to hear from an authority member that it makes you look like a slut. furthermore, the cellulite comment was absolutely unnecessary. i hope that teacher gets sued extra big bucks to pay for the girl’s psychiatrist appointments in the future.

  • that skirt is soo short
    Can you say S-L-U-T ?
What if she has to bend over to tie her shoelace / pick up something on the floor – her whole ass would show

  • That skirt is way too short, for any girl/lady.

But telling a 13 year-old that they look like a slut is pretty dangerous.

  • Lol yeah the girl’s kinda asking for it… Teacher just said the wrong words. Could’ve said something more appropriate

  • Yes.

  • Like everyone else said, yes, but the teacher shouldn’t have said it so offensively.

  • way too short, but the teacher should have chosen more appropriate words

  • First of all, you shouldn’t really buy a skirt that short (especially when you’re 13), but when you DECIDE to roll it up that high it’s your fault (I’m guessing that the skirt is school uniform or something). She knew what she was doing. She’s just crying because she got humiliated for it.

  • @elli_monkey - haha, just some tough love from the teacher!

hm. probably not the most tactful time to use the word, “slut”. in these situations it’s best to just let the school dress code take care of these things. honestly though, i believe the teacher was doing it in the interest of that little slut, i mean girl, because there are raunchy hiigh school kids looking to make some teenage girls their babys mama and not to mention the pedophiles out there.

  • more like a crack-whore.

    just being honest. >.>

    <3

  • yes i think it does

  • It is way to short, especially for school.  The teacher should have definately handled the conversation better though.

Her mother let her wear this?

  • Too short for school, but I wouldn’t call it “slutty.” The teacher should be charged with sexual harrassment for saying that.

  • @wolvenchic - well i have obnoxiously long arms that almost go down to my knees, and whenever teachers would tell me that i would always go off on them because it’s ridiculous. you can’t judge the length of someones apparel that way.

and it’s sad, but there’s worse, we’ve all seen it. and it looks like this girl has longer legs, so it does look short. and her jacket is waay too big for her skirt to be that short.

it was a stretch for the teacher to call her a slut. the picture looks kinda cute. lol.

OMG, and that bitch used the word cellulite! that’s a BIG no.

can we get a picture of the teacher up?, i hope she has saggy tits.

  • Yeah, it’s a little short, but that doesn’t give the teacher any right to call her a slut. It’s really not her place.

Even if it is a dress code violation, the most the teacher can do is refer her to the office.

  • nope, but she sure does look BIG. (which doesn’t give the teacher the right to say *anything*).

  • Well, she said the girl “looked” like a slut.  She didn’t technically call her a slut.

Anyway… probably not the smartest move on the part of the teacher.  I work with students though and sometimes it’s a battle for me to not say things I really want to say.

I doubt this skirt falls in the limits of the school dress code.

  • Once you start being able to see someone’s ass or pussy when they walk, their skirt is too short and it’s slutty.

That being said, I really don’t want to see her walk because I know that’s what I’ll see.

  • why thank you for subbimg. this site is huge. i like it, and the shirt yeah kinda. it isn’t as bad as most think. :)

  • I think the cellulite comment is more inappropriate than the slut comment.  Obviously, the girl isn’t too damaged by this if she can pose in a picture for the press.

  • Dude, the only thing my shorts cover is my ass. She doesn’t look like a slut.

  • @kristine_anne - well duh =P there are exeptions, for others in our school if it was a case like yours, they measured 4 inches from your knee and if it was longer than that, your probably going to have to change or go home. Im one of those people that do believe that at highschool, cover up. College – its another ballgame, most people are living on thier own by then.

If you have got long legs and ridiculously long arms, seems like they might make an exception or you might just be screwed. haha, sorry to put it that way, I see where you are comming from, but in MOST schools, those 2 rules do apply, or something close to those. Otherwise you have people running around dressed for an older audience. I dont like seing 13 year olds dressed with too much makeup, short skirts and low cut busts. A lot of my guy friends have love hate relationship with that crap. They’ll approach a girl thinking that she is older by the way she dresses only to find out they are 14, not 19.

  • @di_ya - They roll them up after they leave the house/ when they get to school…the smart ones anyway.

  • Well, the skirt is a bit short… I guess it really just depends on what the girls is wearing on top and with what shoes, if it’s with that outfit then it isn’t so bad.  Still not appropriate for school.  If someone really wants to wear a skirt that short, I suggest that they wear something modest on top and with flats, or they will undoubtedly look like a slut to just about everyone.

  • @wolvenchic - LOL. thanks[:

AND READ THE ARTICLE PEOPLE! she used the word cellulite!

  • It is rather short, but not like, uhm, a “slut.” Her top is too conservative for that title.

  • “Slut” is just a rude and insulting way to call someone who is promiscuous. How can we tell if that girl is promiscuous or not from the way that she dress?
Judging others based on their clothes is not a good idea.

Yes, her skirt is short. So what?

I don’t know that girl. She could be a really good person. Maybe, she felt cute and comfortable in those clothes. If she wants to wear them, she should. She shouldn’t have to change her clothes out of fear that it will offend people. She isn’t actually hurting anyone. I really don’t see why so many people feel the need to say that she looks like a slut.

Calling someone a slut on the other hand can actually hurt someone. Not cool!

  • Trashy for sure, but not really an appropriate word for a teacher to use on a student.

  • I’ve seen MUCH worse, on even younger girls.

  • That is a bit short for a 13 year old, but the teacher didn’t have to put it that coarsely

  • I think that the skirt is very inappropriate. At school, certainly. But anywhere else too. It’s just too short.

  • Yeah, sorta….

But the teacher shouldn’t have said it that way

  • uhh she shouldve found a better word for it.. butt that skirt IS short. man her mom should’ve know better

  • this is why I home school….

I think teachers have a rough job these days.

  • no but her unkempt hair and face make her look like a homeless person

  • IMHO, the whole look says ‘cheap slut’

  • Yeah it is too short. Especially if she sat down ! it’s really noticeable then. Should be extended a little closer to her knees.

  • the makeup doesn`t help either.

  • Depends on if she’s wearing anything under there lol……but really, it is kinda short, regardless of age, but I don’t think teachers should go around calling students sluts.

  • The comment was inappropriate but so is the young lady’s school attire. She was asked to wear the skirt properly and did not comply. And mom is shocked that a teacher would say something like that to a student. As a parent, I would be more concerned that my daughter was dressing like a common tramp and less concerned that somebody noticed (and mentioned) that my daughter was dressing like a tramp, slut, or whatever. Punish the teacher for making the inappropriate remark to the student. Punish the student for breaking rules (disobedience and dress code).

  • Yes. A thirteen-year-old girl should not be wearing anything like that.

  • It’s definitely too short, but the teacher shouldn’t have referred to her as a ‘slut’ for it. They’re both in the wrong.

  • For me the issue is a teaching calling a student a name like that!  She could point out the immodesty of her outfit…or how inappropriate it is….but a slut??  Come on, teacher, you are the adult here!!

  • Yes. If she was wearing a shorter sweater, no. That long sweater makes it look like she’s barely wearing a skirt.

  • She shouldn’t be wearing that to school, but the teacher should also not use such language…especially when referring to her students…at least to their faces.
The teacher should have sent the girl to the principal and let them deal with it.

  • Yes.  Maybe a rather pricey slut, with the jacket and all, but slutty nonetheless.  I suppose she could have said it differently, but I don’t see why the girl would be offended.  What kind of look was she going for, anyway?  Hooker-chic?  It may have been a little deragatory but it was an honest assessment.

  • Way too short. What happened to modesty?

I don’t think the teacher should have used those words, but as someone else said the girl was ignoring the teacher initially. I think the parents need called and told to make sure the girl is clothed before she leaves for school in the future.

  • Inappropriate and if that supposed to be what a slut wears then she failed being a good looking slut.

  • As long as she does not have a thong on beneath it I am OK with it.

  • kids these days want to be treated older than they really are, so i think it was totally appropriate for that teacher to tell her. better than “excuse me, im gonna have to dress code you.”

  • The skirt is definitely too short for a thirteen year old to be wearing. It’s too short for most people to wear, in my opinion. However, the fact her teacher said it made her look like a slut and also commented that it did nothing for her cellulite is ridiculous. It would have been enough to simply tell the girl to lengthen the skirt because it was inappropriate.

  • it’s too short for a 13 y/o…I don’t know if it was the teacher’s place to call her a slut though…

  • No, she looks like someone’s unattractive middle aged mother.

  • i don’t agree of what the teacher said, but the student should pull her skirt down.

  • It looks like it violates the fingertip rule (when your arms are straight at your sides and fingers extended, the skirt should fall below your fingertips), so I’d say it was inappropriate.  However, there are better, more professional ways of phrasing that; it’s certainly inappropriate to call someone a slut.

  • It’s a little short, but it still looks classy, in my opinion. Even if she hypothetically did look like a “slut,” the teacher, who is supposed to be the mature one here, should have phrased her sentence better. Some people just have no common sense, I suppose.

  • That skirt is entirely too short for a 13 year old to wear anywhere, especially school, but that teacher was way out of line.

  • oh its not THAT short, I mean yes it is very short and 13 year olds shouldn’t be wearing it but what right does that teacher have calling her a slut?

  • “slut” is subjective.

honestly, I think the skirt is too short for school. how are the guys going to pay attention?

and if she sits down, it’s not going to cover most of her ass…

  • Even though it is too short, teachers shouldn’t use that language towards students. That girl is 13!

  • Well, yes, it does look a little slutty… But come on, she’s a teacher. She could have found a better way to word it.

  • She’s thirteen. Lots of thirteen year olds wear short skirts, it just not all of them look like this girl does. I mean when I was thirteen I was this little scraggly thing, and she just looks quite grown up already. I don’t think anyone, this teacher, or any of us should be saying this thirteen year old looks like a slut, she’s just a kid.

  • Yeah. But that’s not the teacher’s place, she just should have made her change.

  • was the jacket over it at the time? lol

either way, it’s not an appropriate term for a teacher to be using.

  • wouldn’t fit our dress code at my high school

  • Doesn’t matter.  If she was within the dress-code guidelines, the teacher shouldn’t be saying anything.  And the teacher certainly shouldn’t be saying that.  What a catty bitch.

  • Hmm…it most certainly is on the short side.
Buuut wrong I’d say for the teacher to call her a slut.
Something more appropriate, along the lines of…
“Honey put some pants on! You bend over once and your cha cha’s gonna’ be there for all the world to see!”

And thirteen year olds scare me these days anyway :|

  • @watchthe_xsky - That’s right, she’s just a kid; and it’s quite pathetic that mom’s let their CHILDREN walk around like whores.

Sorry, but the skirt is too short. The mother should wake up and teach her kids some self-respect.

I’m not all for being like muslim women, but c’mon. There are boundaries, and you might as well sell yourself on the corner if you’re going to dress like that. Hopefully the kid woke up and stopped dressing like a slut.

Like the commenters on the article page said, the teacher was just giving the kid a dose of reality. In fact, I would go far as to say the teacher has the maturity to say such things; if the student’s classmates (which we all know they were) were calling her a “slut”, would anything have been done about that? No. And typically criticism from your peers stabs deeper than the criticism of a teacher.

    –me

  • I would say that the cellulite comment hurts even more. Being called fat is probably worse than slut.

  • I would have told her that her skirt was too short…

  • I think she could have phrased it better, but yes, it kind of does.

  • Yeah, with all of that make-up and the pouty lips, AND the way-too-short skirt, she does look like a slut. Even if she is thirteen.

Not to mention, why was she :”adjusting” her skirt to make it shorter anyway if not for more attention?

  • Why is everyone saying that is seems “really short for her age”? That is too short for any age, honestly!

  • Yes the skirt is short but shouldn’t her mom have said something before she left the house? As an aspiring teacher, I would NEVER call my student a slut or comment about the mistaken “cellulite” regardless whether they had been warned before or not.

  • What skirt?

Oh wait, there it is. They look like ruffles coming out of her sweater.

  • The skirt is certainly too short.  I don’t think the teacher used the appropriate language to express that, though.  The teacher could have explained to the student why the length is inappropriate-ie it will lead boys to think she doesn’t respect herself, or that all she wants is attention.

  • Inappropriate for school? Yes.
Slutty? No. I don’t believe it is.

  • Short, maybe slightly slutty, but everything else is fine. I don’t blame her for making those private school uniform skirts a little shorter! Maybe I don’t think it’s slutty considering I’ve seen worse…

  • I can think of several awesome teachers that I had that would have said something along those lines. Teachers are people too- they have personal relationships with students, and whether they are good or bad, their language is not always going to be by-the-book professional. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. And the girl looks like a slut.

  • @maniac_rose - I loved this comment

  • In 7th grade so when I was 13 the teacher told my friend she looked like a skank and sent her to the principal for her skirt and he said it was fine.
but she got over it just like this girl should, who cares.
and that IS a slutty skirt.

  • i wear skirts like that.. its just a mini.. but probably something you shouldn’t wear to school. The teacher shouldn’t have called her a slut thought.. that was WAY outta line.

  • I don’t even think that should count as a skirt.

So yes, she definitely looks like a slut.

Especially so for a 13 year old.

    Ughhhh

  • yeps…although i’d still wear it XP

  • The skirt is a little short, but that gives the teacher NO right to use such foul language.

The teacher actually said, “That short skirt makes you look like a slut and does nothing for your cellulite”.

That comment was COMPLETELY out of line and uncalled for.

It sounds like the teacher was just taking her own insecurities out on the student. Shame on her.

  • The skirt is short and it’s really not appropriate for school.  But the teacher shouldn’t use that phrase anyway.

  • I would say definitely!

  • the skirt is a bit inappropriate, but, so was the teacher’s comment.

  • Unprofessional but.. someone had to tell her.  She’s going to be pregnant by the next year anyways.

  • for a 13 year old, in school HELL yeah. the teacher should not have said that though. they could have put it differently, or talked to the principal or something…

  • 3 inches past her fingertips. that’s what our rule was in high school.

  • what’s with the seductive picture? all smokey eyed starting at me…trying to get me to think bad thoughts…. not typical 13 year old behavior. no wonder why we have child molestors.

  • No, but that short of a skirt is inappropriate in a school setting and the student should have obeyed the teacher in the first place and rolled down her waistband to make her skirt the actual length it was supposed to be. The teacher should not have made those negative comments, but the student also should have been wearing proper attired in school.

  • It makes her look like a fat little whore. XDD

No really. What. The. Fuck. Is a 13 year old doing running around dressed like that.

    It’s wildly innapropriate.

  • First off, that girl is 13?  Really?  What are they feeding these kids?

Secondly, it’s to be expected that teenagers will push boundaries and dress codes.  The teacher should have said something along the lines of, “This is a place of learning, not a night club, do not enter my classroom dressed innapropriately.”

Telling the kid she looks like a slut will only make her shut down and become even more disrespectful.

  • And the teacher made a cellulite comment?  Jesus.  Fire the bitch.

You don’t tell an adolescent girl she has cellulite!

  • It doesn’t matter whether or not the teacher thought it was slutty, she’s not allowed to talk to a student like that, or at least you certainly aren’t here in the UK. Over here she’d probably be fired for that.

  • Yup, definatly inappropriate for a teacher to say that. There are better ways to raise a concern about how short that skirt is. That being said, this is another incident that clearly screams typical Americans to me. Working overseas, I see plenty of school girls wearing skirts like that. For some it’s a fashion, for others….it’s the actual uniform. If the school didn’t place a regulation about it, then no one has any room to complain.

  • I would have used different words, but, she does.

  • @huginn - LOL yeah, IS SHE WEARING A SKIRT?  I wasn’t sure.  And if she is, it’s way too short for her size.

  • Yeah, for 13? She does. If it’s a school uniform then it should look like one. It shouldn’t look like she wanted to be a back up dancer in a Britney Spears video.

  • Haha the skirt doesn’t, but her presentation in general does.

  • Uh, was she wearing it exactly like that? Nice cardigan and flats and all? I doubt it… not that the teacher ever had the right to say what he/she did.

  • Not only the skirt, it’s the look on her face.  She doesn’t have the legs to pull it off, either.  BUT the teacher has no place using that kinda language to a 13 year old…even if it is true.

  • she’s thirteen years old.
    seriously, she’s hardly hit puberty.
how about leaving something to the imagination?
the things people will do to defeat school dress codes absolutely ASTOUNDS me.

  • @huginn - it’s part of the school uniform.

  • i’m not sure hjow a slut should look like. but it makes her legs look..huge?

  • it’s too short because she’s kinda fat

  •  What does a slut look  like? Are there studies that connect short skirts with “sluttiness”?  Does the teacher have experience with sluts and that’s how she knows? Teacher should not let personal feelings get in the way.  The student will have trouble learning from her now. The teacher  has shown the whole class a logic fallacy too.

  • Guys are going to look at her like she is one. But the teacher shouldn’t have been so harsh about telling her to make that skirt longer; a teacher shoudn’t use that kind of language.

  • Teacher probably should have phrased it better, but it’s also what everyone thinks. Not sure if the teachr should get involved, but then again, the parents didn’t bother to get involved to tell her not to wear it. if this was highschool, it’s one thing, but remember, she IS only 13. holy cow… she does it for attention. now she’s got it. honestly, schools shouldn’t allow girls to wear skirts so high. dress code. but then again, the ACLU will pobably sue the school for everythign they got, if they tried to. speaking of the ACLU, do you feel their religion of free speech is a bit…ridiculous sometmes? they’d rather have kids view porn, b/c it’s free speech, than not? stuff like that. cracks me up and makes me view them with less credibility. off topic, i know…

  • I seee stuff that I don’t want to by looking at that pic.. yeah its too short and I don’t know why she would want to look like that.. is she crying for attention from a guy.. and the only guys that will be attracted are guys who know shes easy to get into bed.. considering she doesn’t even want to wear clothing by the shortness of the skirt.

  • well, the way i see it, both parties are in the wrong: the teacher for her tactless comment, and the girl, who’s old enough to at least know better, yet still fails to obey simple dress code rules. since in the article it says that she was told once to roll down her skirt BEFORE the thoughtless comments were said, she should have listened then. really, a thirteen year old girl shouldn’t be wearing her skirt that short in the first place; it’s going to attract all the wrong people, whether she realizes it yet or not. but that doesn’t excuse the teacher. there’s still no reason to have handled the situation in that way, or to potentially humiliate a student in the process of getting a point across. you can be firm and authoritative without being cruel.

  • Hey, the truth hurts sometimes.

  • Well, it’s really short,
but I don’t think it is appropriate for a teacher to use a word like ‘slut’ to descirbe that girl…….

  • she’s 13?!?! am I the only who think she looks much older than 13?

  • Agree to teacher+different words
We never had dresscodes in school (And it shows. Literally.), but I think a teacher should be able to suggest for them to wear more appropriate clothes than that.
Some of you say she doesn’t have the legs for a short skirt. Wrong. She doesn’t have the legs to look like a skinny hollywood teen-movie bitch in a short skirt, but I think it’s actually charming with legs like that and short skirts. But for heaven’s sake, not THAT short!! I wouldn’t say slut though…

  • yes it does, I agree with every fiber in my body

  • the skirt doesn’t, her facial expression hints at it tho.

  • If I was the teacher, I would have shouted across the room “HONEY! I CAN SEE YOUR PANTIES!!!”

    ^.^

She was stacking chairs, so her ass must have been hanging out. Definitely not cool for a 13yo girl. And definitely not acceptable in a private school. I disagree with how the teacher said it, but not why she said it. The teacher DID tell her to roll down her skirt, and the student disobeyed! Hell, if she has that attitude towards a teacher, I definitely think she’s a slut.

    ~Lynnsey

  • She definitely does look like a slut, but it’s inappropriate for a teacher to say so, at least using that word.

The teacher should have just pulled her aside and told her that her skirt was inappropriate and that she would be advised to change into something else if possible, or at least not wear it again. If the school had a dress code, then send her to the principal or whoever deals with that, and have them tell her she can’t wear it.

  • The teacher could have responded better to the student but having previously worn school uniform skits I know that your skirt is supposed to be just a couple inches about the knee (about 3 fingers if you put your hand horizonatally above the knee. So yeah, what she is wearing is inappropriate.

    - StunningFox

  • I think the teacher was unprofessional in her choice of description. Whether the student looked like a slut or not is not the core issue, because of two reasons:

    1) Fashion does not always indicate character preference (so she wears a short skirt, everyone has legs so whats the problem?)

    and

    2) The concept of sexual ethics and morality is not necessarily determined by fashion itself. For example, if a woman likes to wear short skirts, she may have the preference because the material irritates her legs, and not for sexual advertisement.

The teacher was in the wrong, and she knows it.

  • To be honest I thought it was oen of those pictures that they show of the porn girl before she took her clothes off. Of course it makes her look like a slut. She might as well just wear her panties. I would have said the same thing to her if I was the teacher. But with slutty looking girls like that running around schools now it is a good thing I am not a teacher.

  • Teaches don’t have the right to judge that.

  • No but her pose and the face sure does.

  • the teacher shouldn’t have said that, but that skirt is way too short. we have a “two inch above the knee” or “finger length” rule at my school; they should set some standards.

  • I think its the bad hair and makeup that does it

  • the skirt… its definitely too short.
however, is it the skirt that makes her look like the “slut”
or is it the way she presents herself?

while a teacher shouldnt be using that sort of language… it isnt something that they haven’t heard before. theres no such thing as “virgin ears” now in american high schools

  • If I was her mother I would reprimand her for attempting to stir something up in the first place. She should listen to the adults when told something is inappropriate and roll down her skirt. The teacher however had no right to use that kind of language in front of the child. If she was trying to relay the message that she was attempting to promote and image that she wasn’t intending to put forth it is understandable. She went about it the wrong way.

I can recall a time when I was younger and walked around school with a playboy bunny shirt on. My theater director pulled me to the side and had a nice conversation with me. As it turns out she was once a part of the mansion around here… and explained to me everything that went on there. I never wore the shirt again. If you treat children with the respect they deserve, they will surprise you. Had she called me slutty (which I was not) I probably would have continued prancing around with those images for a while.

  • It’s not even a cute skirt!

I think it’s her business if she wants to look like a slut

and I think the teacher should of used a higher vocabulary like prostitute the word slut is boring

  • It is kind of short. But the teacher shouldn’t have said anything.

  • Did someone say that it’s not the skirt’s fault the girl looks like a slut, already?

Seriously, the teacher should not have phrased it better, but the little girl (13, you say? looks like a worn-out 36) seems to have more going on with the make-up and shabby hair.

“Hello! Hot mess! Clean up in pet supplies! Snip-snap! How You Durrin!”

Sorry, I was watching Tyler Perry.

  • The skirt she is wearing is too short for her considering her age. I don’t think I would use the word slut how about it makes her look easy. The teacher should have handled it in a different way though.

  • it’s not a flattering skirt
    but not slut-worthy

  • Maybe if the girl was older it would be okay to wear. I don’t think she’s a “slut” but the skirt is a bit short. That teacher had no right to call her a slut though. Geez.

  • in light of sex offenders i can see the teachers point. back inthe day teachers could snap kids with a ruler throw chalk at them, ect. seems liek any teachers attempt to actualyl instill anything into kids these days, and theyre just kids as red foreman points out onthe 70′s shows time afrter time. look at allthe teen pregnancies. kids who dress liek this on tv have one thing regular peoplel dont bodyguards. too bad parents dotn bring the kids in the real world.

  • She’s 13. What reason does she have to be wearing something like that? And the teacher probably shouldn’t have called her a slut. It would’ve been better to tell her that she was dressed inappropriately or something along those lines.

  • I’d say it’s not the skirt making her look like a slut…it’s that smirk on her face! teehee

  • no, but she looks gross.

  • The skirt (pants?) are probably too short for a kid her age in school, but I can’t say that it makes her look slutty.  In fact, her outfit looks rather somber overall.  I’ve seen 13 year old girls in short shorts and tank tops sans bra posing and acting like they’d walked off the set of “Taxi Driver”.  That’s something sorrowful to see.  This is not.

  • she’s 13? slut.. not sure.. but that skirt is just too short… and i don’t mean wear it past your knees for the rest of your life, but wouldn’t you choose something a lil’ better to wear to school…?

  • I can understand the teacher. In the article she says she tried getting the girl to fix it using more appropriate, nice comments.

Parents are so frustrating when it comes to education. I think they should all be forced to week teaching and dealing with parental feedback before they’re allowed to make complaints. Not that that’s practical.
