I read a pulse today by trunthepaige and she said, “My pulses have become more popular than my blog entries.”
It is interesting because I have noticed that pulses have increased since xanga put the pulses on top of the old subscription page. It causes more people to comment on pulses. Plus on the new private page, pulses are given equal weight as blogs. So a whole blog is knocked down by a simple pulse update.
I am not being critical of the pulses. I am sort of curious as to what the long term impact this will have on xanga. I mentioned to xanga a few years ago that I thought they had to create more passive ways for people to update without having to write a whole pulse. I wasn’t even familiar with the possibility of pulsing at that time. I didn’t know about status updates on Facebook or twitter.
Pulsing is an easier way for people to communicate and I think that by the end of the year you will see more pulsing than blogging. In fact, it probably won’t take that long.
Again, my post is not designed to be critical of the pulsing. I am just curious as to the long term impact. I wonder if it will slowly move xanga away from a blogging community. Then I wonder if people will just move over to Facebook or twitter to do the same thing. Or I wonder if this is just xanga keeping up with the times and adding passive ways for people to update. I wonder if it will ultimately help xanga and their traffic.
Do you think xanga has a better chance to survive as a pulsing/blogging community.
