So Many Women On Xanga
It is pretty obvious there are more women on xanga than men. And yet over the past 4 and a half years, I have noticed that most of the most popular sites are written by men. You can think of exceptions but they were just that. And of those popular sites written by men, most of them were run by chauvinistic men who did not make a special effort to be nice to women.
Why do you think there are significantly more women on xanga than men?

Comments (100)
women are more introspective and wordy than men, on average. so, it just makes sense.
Women are traditionally better communicators. But no worries, some of you guys are catching up.
I still read more guys though. They tend to be funnier. Not a rule just an observation.
Girls like to vent, ramble, and talk more.
So xanga is the perfect we chance for them to do that.
*xanga is the perfect chance for them to do that.
I know that’s why I use it, to be able to speak out,
and get feedback on it, all at once.
We rock.
More socially acceptable and stereotypical for a blogger to be female.
Its not exactly a masculine profession according to society.
Women needs other peoples’ opinions in order to make decisions, i think. Not that men are smarter, they just don’t always seek help when they need it. And…yes. We talk a lot.
@bella_esperanza - I agree.
we are amazing, and we all love to make new friends
yep
I have more female friends and subs than male thats for sure. Not sure why other than I like women better than men!
Yes. We are amazing.
Because men use the internet for porn?
Women waste their time on social network sites; guys waste theirs on porn sites.
It’s not that obvious to me that there are less men, maybe it’s just on your site. Out of the last 8 comments I got, one was from a woman.
It’s your charm Dan. That, and the guys are quitting, unable to compete with you.
I really have to go with some of the others. Women talk more and have more to say about things that happen in life. It doesn’t bother me as long as it doesn’t bother them that I’m a man. (lol) I like to read what they have to say.
Because men work for a living.
women spend more time analyzing themselves and their lives
because.. women love drama and gossip.
the end.
You’re killing me with that picture. How many more posts are you planning with the word “women” in it so you can use that photo?
Women just talk a lot. Men, on the other hand, if they’re blogging a thought then it’s usually going to be a relatively deep one. Thus why their thoughts are more desirable to be read.
And, those who don’t are usually men who want to be in control…so they do just that…they take control.
Women are just more social critters… That’s my story and I’m sticking to it…
Also… it would be interesting to me if you could find out how many men there are that stalk Xanga… don’t post and rarely comment but instead send messages hitting on the women… I bet there are FAR more of them then of the women who blog.
We need somewhere/someone to cry to more than they do.
Girls are lame.
The men are jealous of you and wemon love you.
Men are more competitive? I’m okay with my one or two comments a week.
@AS90 - Hey! >=O
Um…I think it’s cuz men are on sites like mancouch and stuff. Women have more to rant about (like the shortcomings of men, cough) and not a lot of places to rant about them. So they come online to sites like Xanga! There’s also blogger and stuff like that. Lots of women go on there to rant and stuff. ^^
We just like to emote more than guys.
@melissa_orchid - heh heh, some of. >=D
@Kontzicles - I don’t. But you are right that most of the bloggers on here seem to.
@JJ_Ames - That made me laugh!
WHINE ABOUT IT TO SOMEONE WHO CARES, THEO…
…there are significantly more women because i think, generally speaking, women get into technology more, and like the idea of sharing their thoughts with other people. but that’s just me.
WIMMEN BE SHOPPIN’ YALLS, er ah, and also bloggin a lot, as it were.
We are just amazing period.
DID THAT LADY UP THERE GET STUNG ON THE LIPS BY A BUNCHA BEES OR SOMETHING
your question seems a little at odds with your previous paragraph.
@weakerlink - omg! I never thought of that, excellent point. I second it.
we like to talk to the world.
I love to rant about things and post more about my life.
Guys just hit and run. They don’t stop to smell the roses.
It’s because I’m here.
yeah. check out all the asian chicks on chinese blogrings. gg..
@melissa_orchid - sweet, glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for letting me know
@emmaleaaa - Wow, That was my opinion too, except you phrased it better than I could have
@MySecretLoveAffair - You’ve been reading my posts again, haven’t you? (*he struts…gives his butt JUST a little wiggle*)
@emptyspiral - hahahah.
@TalithaKum88 - i agree.
because over half the users are those thinspo pages.
Think it has to do with women being more communal. On pretty much all social networking sites there are more women.
You are totally using that picture to drive up blog views. As if you NEEDED that.
I have no interest in the chauvinist sites. But a lot of women seem to enjoy being abused. :/
is there a reason you keep on posting chocolatecoveredkitten’s pic?? actually some of my favorite bloggers are women…i.e. avenuetothereal, nimbusthedragon, museerato, tinahawt (but she’s been gone for awhile now), baldessarini…just to name a few…
Back when I joined Xanga in 2005, my hubby (then fiance) was told by a friend that Xanga wasn’t for serious bloggers…just little thirteen year old girls. So he didn’t start a blog here, which made me kind of sad, lol.
Xanga is like a nightclub…full of girls looking for fun with the men making all the effort. Ouch!
Maybe because men don’t write so much about cutting, eating disorders, and significant others not measuring up.
I’m not being sexist, that’s just the trend I’ve noticed. Also, douchebags (mostly guys) start flame wars that everyone feels the need to contribute to, accounting for their popularity.
Gah. I want to troll, but… but I just… can’t! Is this the power of love? The combined power of all the women on Xanga banding together to suppress my natural trolling urges?
I’m… why, I’m touched.
@quicksandbuddy - Flame wars? Why, that’s an excellent idea! Commence Austin McCutchen’s rise to fame.
@emptyspiral - You’re looking at her lips?
Duh, that’s because 1. Men don’t blog about lame drama shit, and 2. all those women want my hotness.
I stopped commenting on the men’s posts, with a few exceptions. I don’t know about their sites being more popular (maybe statistically, because there are less men). But I believe you are correct: they are more chauvenistic. I would add they are sometimes downright angry and/or mean — something you don’t see on the girls’ sites. I don’t need to be “told off” when I’m commenting on a post simply in order to add to the discussion. Maybe women are (mostly) here to reflect and/or be sad and men are (sometimes) here to vent and let loose.
ps please don’t criticize my post tc, i’ll cry
more women come on here to rant, whether it be for themselves or for an audience
Bwah ha ha ha…… We are secretly taking over the world one web site at a time…. we use the pretty pictures to lull the men into a false sense of security before we…. before….. Bwah ha ha ha…….. you’ll never see it coming……..
I guess it’s because women are more emotionally extrovert. We OBSESS a lot over what might seem a small thing to some, but is a huge deal for us. So, I guess it’s because we like to express ourselves more. Tell me, how many of these chauvinistic ‘top bloggers’ ever blog about their true feelings? It’s mostly just an act.
@ChocolateCoveredKittens - Hot damn! A hot Bekka pic! Then again, when AREN’T they?
yippppeeee!
we have vaginas.
I think you might be assuming there are indeed more of one sex than another, but how do you know for sure. Has Xanga released some demographics? I think the numbers are closer than we think they are to an equal share between men and women.
maybe women just multiply more than men… nyahahaah
Women enjoy talking, and need to vent from their long days. Men usually like to keep it in or go hang out with buddies and sometimes talk about it. Also some men are hardly at home and there are still stay at home wives. With all the different situations there are going to be more women on xanga.
Also : http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/social_networks_women_outnumber_men.php
That also explains different ways.
I just think it’s more of a girl thing to write her feelings down on something like a blog, just like a diary. Not saying this is everyones diary and guys can’t do that too, it just is more common for girls. Plus I know there are a lot and I mean A LOT of eating disorder related blogs on here which would be mostly girls as well. I’m sure if I told my boyfriend to make a blog to share his thoughts he would have the same opinion as me.
Women are generally more social. They need to connect.
Just post boobs and call it a day.
What’s with that whole thing about donating money so that someone can go see a lame-ass boy band? If you were asking for money to help someone with a deadly illness, then that’d be something. But this? Pfft.
idk…why do you think there are more women than men? =P
It proves that men have better things to do with their time.
Most men are illiterate.
I think women are more comfy with sharing about their lives then men…but maybe I am wrong?
@AS90 - LOL I like your answers!
What I want to know is what is your fixation with that picture of CCK?
I tried to donate 0.00 and Paypal wouldn’t let me. Hey, I think the thought counts!
Women care more about what men have to say than what other women have to say. That’s why the most popular blogs are by men.
Stop with the picture already, geez!!! haha
Unrelated, but curious… are you ever going to post answers to the hundreds of questions you got a couple of months ago?
@AS90 - HAHA that’s great.
I really think it’s because women almost need to have people listen to what they have to say and agree with them. There’s no show called Gossip Guy. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just the way things are.
These are young ladies…experience is the best teacher. I’ve noticed this also, but waited on you to comment. I guess it would be like the 2008 presidental campaigne. “Dare to be different and they will hang you by a thread! “
Because if women do not bitch and complain somewhere they EXPLODE!
@AibellFaeire – Excuse me?
are you a chauvinistic man?
as far as more girls being here, i think part of it is just social breeding… girls are encouraged to do well in “girly” subjects like english and art, boys are encourged to do well in science and math. I’m not making that up, that’s just the way it is here, unfortunately. And there’s also pressure on girls to talk about everything that bothers them, and pressure on boys to not talk so much about what they don’t like. So naturally, girls are more likely to take to blogging than guys. However, doesn’t mean they’re necessarily better at it. I’m not sure why jerky guys tend to be on top here…. but I also am not sure who you’re talking about, off the top of my head, so idk.
@ProfessorTom - Joking. =D
@AibellFaeire – *laughs*
Women are better at writting things out. They know how to talk. lol
we just like to vent and ramble more. =]
Right now I think I have two male subscribers to my 30 female subscribers. *shrugs* Guys don’t normally feel comfortable talking about things to other guys. It gets awkward, we prefer to shout and get covered in dirt/grease/concert stink when were near one another.
writing is my outlet, im not a great writer, im an “emotional” writer. and i think a lot of women fall under that category? i noticed that a lot of women write about their personal experiences whereas men tend to write more about today’s ”issues” or general topics that may not relate to them personally. at least when i go through my subs, that’s what it seems like.
Girls need attention. What better way to seek narcissistic validation than through a blog?
tell them to come to my site!
Because the men are out hunting and killing things while we women are home on the couch eating bon bons and blogging
I’m sorry, but did you say something? I was too busy staring at that picture…
Women talk more than men. Hence, more female bloggers.
cause most men hide their feelings. >.>
Blogging is like making out Christmas cards. The ladies always handle it.
We need a place to bitch.
Why should men go out of their way just to excercise extra nicencess torwards women? I say a chick has big tits, the chick talks about shoes for three hours straight, the circle of life continues and nobody dies. Wee.
I don’t know. Maybe there’s more men on other journal sites…
