Drinking Parties
A bunch of us from xanga were talking in the BFN chat the other day. Download it here if you want to talk to fellow xangans: Link
We were talking about parties when we were in high school. I mentioned that in high school, that I went to about 30-40 parties and there was alcohol at all of them.
A few people mentioned going to parties in high school and that most of the time there was no alcohol. That appeared strange to me because I can’t imagine calling something a party in high school without alcohol.
Was there alcohol at your high school parties?
Comments (120)
At every single party.
At most of mine there hasn’t been, but I’m not always invited to parties.
Nope. It was much easier for high school students to get illegal drugs than it was to get alcohol in the small town I lived in – because drug dealers don’t card.
Edit: Yes I realize this is probably one of the most self-incriminating comments ever.
Hmm. Wine coolers.
At the majority of them, yeah.
But they’re always pretty lame, and I don’t go to them.
I homeschool. We have vanilla coke at our parties.
Depended on who was hosting the party. There was always plenty of alcohol to go around if that’s what you wanted, but I took the sober route and still had fun with friends, though you might not exactly call our get-togethers “parties.”
I didn’t go to the sort of party that you blog about on the internet.
I hated all parties from birth–even my one birthday party. I refused to go. I was forced to attend the 8th grade party at a house. When I got there ( 1947 or so) they were already playing a very inappropriate party game. I left.
So, no drinking. No parties.
I did not go to parties in high school. lol However, all of the parties I heard about had at least alcohol, and usually illegal drugs too.
At only one, and I was “too good for that shit” back then. Now I’m a drunk.
some.
xo
I was in the BFN chatroom during this convo. No, there wasn’t.
EFF YES!! PARTY WOOOO!!
-___-
yeah, there was alcohol. that’s why high school parties never usually ended well for me.
I never really went to parties in high school.
Based on what I overheard at school though it seems that alcohol was present at every party.
absolutely ! if not, it wasn’t a party.
Never went to a high school party. I wasn’t in the cool crowd.
@JadedJanissary - hmmm. intriguing.
yes…and weed and coke and speed and freon and anything else that could fuck us up unfortunately.
anything after grade 11, it was like a fosho.
What high school parties? ^^;; Never got invited to any…
But when I got to CEGEP (Quebec version of college), then there was massive alcohol at most of the parties I went to. I was still the same age as a lot of American high school students (17-18), so I’d say yes…
BTW what’s with that picture? I hope it’s photoshopped! O_o
Those I did attend had a massive amount of alcohol. Not much variety though. Mainly beer, and tequila. And this was before patron became huge. Jose cuervo… ugh.
Of course
@kacyy - isn’t it, though?
my high school parties didnt have alcohol
starting from Gr11 our parties had some* alcohol -thats cause were 17
& our friends thats a year or 2 older than us were able to get it
Gr12 graduation year – of course theres alcohol – how else are we gona get smashed
but yeah thats about it – most of our parties – were going out for all you can eat sushi dinner- it was pretty boring
The ones I went to in high school didn’t have alcohol. I knew of ones that did but never ended up going to them. Talking to people a few years behind me there was a shift away towards other substances since they were easier to get.
Every party. Alcohol and Weed. Otherwise, it’s not even technically a party.
more parties did not have it than did for most of high school. it pretty much flipped the other way when i went away to art school…
Definitely alcohol!
That is one disturbing picture ha ha!
Thanks for the chat link!
Actually, the party was at my house. I was a wayward youth.
Dunno…never went to parties
no. and I didnt mind.
Ummm DUHH! Iloveparties<3!
Seldom was there alcohol at the parties I went to during high school. Though this isn’t to say there were no such parties in existence. I could, with ease, recall an inexplicable number of inebriated shin-digs that went on during my high school years. I just never ran with that type of group.
Only at some.
I usually party with my college friends though.
yeah grade11 and afterward.
before there was no alcohol ==
@BebstersBlog2 - Haha oh, how well I can relate to that.
not my parties. I know there were alcohol parties in hs, but not the ones I went to.
I know that the majority of the students at my school would drink in high school, but my friends and I never did. There was never alcohol at any parties I went to and we had a good time. But then again, I’m not sure if they would be accepted as “parties” by an outsider’s perspective.
My parents keep me on lockdown. Some of it I don’t mind, but most of it is too much. Yet, I’m under an IEP, and therefore, have “special” ed. In that “special” class, lie all the kids with behavioral and emotional problems. I need to get out, but I heard all the things that happened at high school parties.
With pictures. It’s awful. Smoking weed, drinking beeer, random hook-ups at the age of 14. (Starting age 12 or 11, even 9) No good. Kids these days. -_-
I never went to a party in high school. Never. ever.
(I’ve since been to a friend’s house where her younger sister is having a party and, yes, there is alcohol).
Yes, there was alcohol at almost every single party. Except there was one – listen to this – whee the guy would get harassed by the cops because he was ALWAYS hosting parties. So he finally hosted a root beer party – no alcohol and we were crazy loud. The cops came over thinking they were going to arrest rowdy teens, and when they got there, you could tell they were embarrassed because they DID expect alcohol. They just told us to keep it down, and drove away.
i only drink with family, everyone else i knew only smoked mainly =/
It depends on which crowd was throwing the party…so maybe a little over half had alcohol?
@radicalramblings - LOL but it is so true though!!
who are you??
I went to many parties during high school, and after high school.
most had alcohol, some had other drugs.
Personally, I didn’t care for either…I ended up being the designated driver.
)
(good times to play practical jokes…
Yes but it wasn’t forbidden here.
P.S.: That’s a great photo. lol
Yupp
A few had alcohol , but that didn’t mean I had to drink it …I am so not a lush !
I don’t think there was ever alcohol at school parties, though I was part of a debating club, which was done at people’s homes, and there would be alcohol at some of them. However, going out on weekends it was not a problem. Hung out in bars, but then did not have a lot of money, so one beer a week was about it.
yep, every party had alcohol.
there was always weed too.
i guess that’s what happens when you live in a small town and there’s nothing else to do. lol
Never. I guess it depends on the crowd you ran around with.
My parents would have killed me.
I didn’t go to a lot of parties. At my Texas high school, no. I hung out with a bunch of nerds and we had fun without booze. At my Arkansas high school, though, there was usually beer at the parties, but I never drank it because it smelled gross and it made people act stupid. I did drink champagne at my graduation party, though.
I didn’t have time to go to parties. But all of the ones that I heard about, everyone drank.
Oh yesss ~~ we have alcohol! The devil made us do it, mom and dad!!
Drunkery ensues
trouble a brews.
but if you were at the right parties, (all of them) you could see some girls get friendly with others, spreading lesbian germs, which by all standards is the most potent aphrodisiac known to man.
And of course, a lot of people lost their virginity at parties.
I was thankfully, not that foolish.
I never go, but there always is. And if you’re part of the supposedly ‘cool’ crowd, you can’t even go out the the park or whatever with your friends without bringing alcohol anymore.
Always. That’s what made a party a “party”. Otherwise it was a “get together” or “hanging out.”
Not usually. We did grow up in a dry county, though. And, more to the point, the parties I got invited to were dry parties; sometimes I’d tag along with a “friend” and be surprised that there was alcohol. But like I said, not usually.
I never went to parties. Whenever I drank when I was in high school, it was always with my mother or my brother. I was a good kid in high school. Still am, I guess. I recently turned 21 so I can drink without worrying about being underage.
Some of the parties I went to had alchohol and some didn’t. It really depended on the group of people giving the party.
I didn’t go to any…but there sure were.
Though for my 16th birthday it was in a hotel and us girls were all unsupervised…WE got drunk…
@MomGoneMadd - haha!!! Sounds like the parties I went to.
Yes. There was alcohol. Along with every other drug known to man. And if we couldn’t find any drugs, we tripped off cough syrup.
None. I’m lying, one.
yeah, at a lot of them. not at ones i went to, though.
It was present at some but not all. It depended on who threw the party.
I don’t get invited to those kinda parties because I revolve in a small group of friends, and they don’t drink/do drugs/smoke. They’re kinda geeks, dorks, and nerds
.
Oh hell yesh. Parties are just not parties without alcohol or drugs where I come from ;] (I don’t do the drugs though… just the alcohol)
My friends didn’t drink, but unless it was a birthday party or a party for another purpose, I didn’t really call when we hung out “parties.” I only went to one gathering that I would call a party and there was alcohol there, but it was also a different set of friends than I normally hung out with.
We had a lot of bonfires though, I guess those count. No alcohol at any of those.
pretty much anything after tenth grade had alcohol, if it didn’t it’s because the kid was kind of weird and called whatever he was throwing “a party” so people would show up.
i still enjoyed the fake parties just as much usually haha.
That picture bothers me.
Theres freakin’ alcohol at middle school parties.
There was not at about 95% of the parties I went to. They were in venues, not house parties, so the hosts didn’t want to get in trouble with underage drinking stuff, but there was a LOT of weed, so I suppose that was my highschool’s substance of choice lol. That was a fun convo the other night.
Sometimes. It would depend on the size of the party. ♥
I didn’t bother with many parties until college. I suppose my high school was too small, or maybe I was still too pissed off at the world.
some yes and some no. i never drank tho b/c my parents would get it for me when ever i wanted and i didnt feel like getting caught at someone elses house or on the road (i have really bad luck). parties where i spent the night i would drink but other than that i didnt and i still dont drink.
I never went to any parties.
if there wasn’t alcohol, it wasn’t considered a “party”
so lame. I don’t drink, I don’t condemn people who do but I do think people who can’t have fun without it are pathetic.
@fueledbylaura - WHAT?! O_O
I didn’t even know there were parties in middle school!! haha
Thats a proper alcohol attitude …:)
@Fool0nThePlanet - Yea, and sometimes they even mix vodka in with water, or whatever drink there is, and bring it to school. its effed up.
Well Dan, I must say that I was in the nerdy clique and I was offered to go to parties in high school all the time but I never went to any of them because either I wanted to study, I wanted to clean up the house for my mother or I just did not want to see my classmates in a different light. I liked people not knowing too much about me outside of school and I was content with not being the most popular girl in school. So, I really have no idea about the drinking but I have heard a lot of people mention alcohol in high school parties. The media even advertises it with movies like “Superbad” and “American Pie”( the first one) So, this is not a shock to me but it is something that may need to be addressed, especially in small towns where there are a lot of hit and runs. Nice pictures of the babies- I had to check and see if there were anything in those bottles!! LOL!
@fueledbylaura - That is interesting to know. I would have thought they would be creative and have Gin with water. It has more of a kick and vodka does not have much of a taste.
@Jade_Orchid - They use what they can get.
Pretty much always
Sure, all of the ones I ever heard of, and there still are adult versions of those parties but I quit going to them after I became a Christian at 20 yrs old.
Yeah. All of them did.
Never went to a high school party. Spent most of my time playing basketball.
Partied and everything was available and it was not pretty.
No parties for me in High School… I was one of those dorks who stayed at home and preferred to work on Latin projects lol.
But college? Alcohol at every party, loving the college life
(Huh, what a change from High School! lol)
And studying abroad in Prague for 6 weeks this summer?? Oh damn, so many nights that I don’t remember
i don’t get invited to those awesome jock parties where they do keggers and take a massive amount of pictures with each other and post on the internet. my parties are usually low key, and there’s always an overflow of alochol because it’s not stacked with people :p
just don’t tell my mom =x
@MySecretLoveAffair - so was I, ‘member? (It’s Queen!) There was too a convo like this! XD But me, Dan and AlterEgo were the only people who were talking bout it.
Haven’t been to a high school party…yet. Even if I do, I’ll probably end up not drinking. ^^”
alcohol is a must from ages 14+
Drinking is not much of a taboo in my family. I suppose it could be a cultural thing. I had my first taste of alcohol in grade school and it never did take as something enjoyable for me. I was not a big party animal in high school. None of the parties I attended involved alcohol, but you could say it was because I never attended the big blowout open invite ones. Just small and intimate with friends. Parties were more to relax, have fun, and meet new friends. Drinking parties started for me in college. Even then, it was more social and I always controlled my limit to two or three drinks.
I was never invited to the parties, so I don’t know.
yes. maybe you need to explain that the parties you are talking about do not include a little get together with several friends. maybe they are confused. ive never heard of a high school party without alcohol. i remember the trips to the gas station where you wait for the dude to come out with your alcohol. lol.
Yep. And I didn’t drink any
I was a big stickler for “doing the right thing”. I still am, kinda… I still won’t use a crosswalk if the hand signal is there or even blinking!
yes…how is it a party otherwise? especially in high school.
High school? Parties? Huh? Lol. Never went to one, but I sat by a kid in my english class my senior year who was ALWAYS talking about the upcoming weekend party and how hyped he was about getting drunk, or he was talking about how he just got drunk the other night at a party. It never made sense to me. I wasn’t in that crowd. I was in marching band, but we were awesome…uh…in a…away game bus rides were our time to do things in the dark that lust driven teenagers do….But parties? And with alcohol? Nope.
@fueledbylaura - Pretty sad though. Patiently waiting to be legal enough to get your own is an added treat of drinking.
The parties I went to in high school were more likely to involve board games than alcohol.
The ones I go to now usually involve a little of both. ;P
Yep
A few of the ones I went to had alcohol, but not many.
always has been, still is, pretty much always will be… except when i’m like 30, and go to parties its unlikely that i’ll be drinking enough to be seeing double and falling over at any given opportunity
not really until I was like 16- and then it was always at every party. But I didnt really go looking for it until I was about that age.
My sister in-law was 14 when she started drinking at parties… thats so sad to me.
Uh yeah…and sometimes even the “church” parties that weren’t on church property!!!
hellz yea.
Most of my high school gatherings weren’t even really parties…we just got together and did dorky things, like read poetry and eat on roofs. But when we do go to parties, they’re college parties. I have never been to a legit high school “party” with alcohol and dancing and everything. I save that for my college friends.
I was well behaved in those days and we never had alcohol. But we had a blast. Invite a bunch of people over blast music dance and hang out for a few hours goofing off.
No, but computers at most of them.
I’m shock most of the comments said there were alcohol in their h.s. parties. I could imagine and expect there might be alcohol presence in teenager parties but, not in school. Are there teachers or adults supervising over the parties?
No, and I never even heard of people at my HS drinking when I went there. Guess I just wasn’t hanging with those kinds of people.
I went to gamer geek parties mostly, so caffeine was the substance of choice. I don’t remember there ever being alcohol or drugs. Just a lot of mountain dew and stuff like that.
i went to an all girl private school and there was never any alcohal. i didnt start drinking until i was 19 and in college
Not sure I went to any parties in high school.
most definitely yes.
