  • Blocking

What does it take to get you to block someone on xanga?

  • No idea, I have yet to block anyone.

  • Just spam, but I don’t block anyone.  Fuck the nay-saying puritan dick weeds that do.

  • Never have.  I suppose they’d have to frequently say a lot of things to anger the other people who might read my site.  That and religious crazies.  Noooo thanks.

  • I’ve never had a reason to block anyone.  I guess if they were personally harassing me or my readers on my site, that would be a block-worthy offense.

  • Uhm, the first guy was because he was sending me all these really explicit sex messages and leaving porn sites on my chatboard (which I deleted). The second was this random creepy spammer who sent me this message where he referred to me as his “beloved wife”. Ha.

  • i never have and don’t want to have to, but that’s not saying that i wouldn’t. but i love drama sometimes so i don’t know if i would block someone for being an ass….

  • A stick up the ass will do the trick.

  • It depends, but last I heard you called blockers doushe bags so I think I won’t tell you right now

  • i simply don’t accept friendships.
    that usually settles it.

  • Spam, stalking, uh.. other factors that could anger me in ways of them going on my “You’re getting shot with a potato gun list” … sometime after I procure such a destructive weapon. dunno

There are conditions that go with each situation, but mostly for spam messages, stalking and harrassment.

  • the usual crap

  • if it will result in hilarity

  • Alienating or otherwise pissing off my readers (thats my job, sorry).

    Preaching.

  • I haven’t yet…so I’m not sure. Repeat and uncontrollable flamers and trolls that ruin the conversation, maybe.

  • I don’t..

  • I have yet to block.  I believe in free speech, but I also believe in good manners, and I believe everyone has the right to their own opinion.

Most people that I have encountered on Xanga, besides the occasional randoms that never last long really, are basically good and decent individuals.  Of people that have had issues, I wouldn’t rate most of them with a care-factor enough to block.  Here I refer to people who think abuse substitues a good arguement.  Of these people none have visited my site to leave abusive comments.

I guess if they did this, I might block, but mostly I’d use their words to prove my own point.

Sometimes I think that those that block only do so out of ignorance for other people’s beliefs, then again, I’ve heard of instances of harrassment where this is definately not the case.

To block or not to block, ahh that is indeed the question…..

  • I don’t block people. If they want to be ugly they can be ugly. Everyone can see it in writing then.

  • well this one girl alwayssss messaged me. she’d send me like ten messages a day saying that she needs to talk to me, then she’ll be back later, and stupid stuff like that. she’d cmt my pulses with stupid  things. i had one that said i love you and she wrote you love me? and then another was about marrying and she said she’d marry me or something. i was getting so annoyed. but i didnt block her, i just deleted her from my friends and i have yet to hear from her haha. (:

  • I block people who are annoying and mean

  • Oh, but I have been blocked by several. Sad really. I didn’t do anything wrong either

  • the person being married and his family finding out we’re friends and they blow up my phone and facebook and every other account I freaking have… that usually does it for me.

  • I’ve never blocked anyone, but I’ll block you if you’re a stalker.

  • Harassing me with rude comments

  • only people that really harass me.. generally people I know from off of xanga.. lol… I do get blocked quite often though.. it appears people don’t appreciate my foul mouth ;)

  • Spam– in commenting or messaging.

I’m open to blocking users for a day or two for unsubstantive trolling or badgering, but so far, its never really come to that.

  • harassment. but i haven’t blocked anyone. i’ve been blocked, though. :-

  • I think I’d be more open to attacking an actual Xagan with scissors and a ballpoint pen than I would be for blocking him.

The former would be an expressive action, while the later would be naughty censorship.

  • Usually people giving me an additude or people who lurk and sub with no entries.

  • I haven’t blocked anyone yet. But if I get a creeper vibe from you (aka send me messages even after you ask if i have a boyfriend and i say yes saying you still want to get to know me and say that you like me) it’ll probably make me consider it.

  • advocating sodemy/slavery either works. or groping. If someone gropes me, they get blocked.

  • They ask me to block them for some unknown reason.  That hasn’t happened…yet.

  • I haven’t blocked anyone yet… but I think if they were harassing the hell out of me I would…or spamming on my page..a lot…

  • when she leaves comments like: “but i’m having your baby!”

  • a bagillion footprints from a user with no post, no pictures, and no profile
    ^he/she would be blocked

  • @Rob_of_the_Sky - I actually blocked you for a second. Accept my friend request. Take me back! !meeeeeh

  • @rhiannonator - Hmmmmm, I’ll have to think about that…

  • @rhiannonator - Ok, I’ll add you if you quit blocking me.

  • Spam, harassment, threatening, or I just don’t like that person.

I have a pretty long block list, actually.

  • personal attacks from malicious people. you wouldn’t allow such a person to come in your house and call you names, so why on here?

  • To have the word Cafe in their xanga name.

  • I haven’t had to do it yet. Really, I don’t think I would block anyone.

  • I block any site that leaves immense amounts of footprints, and have no blogs. I feel like they’re stalking me.

    Also, creeps.

  • Thank you Dan.

The comments of this entry has expanded my trolling horizons. Now, not only do I know who to irritate, I also know which buttons to push! =P

  • I imagine most of the people who have blocked me have “issues”. I have never blocked anyone.

  • i dunno, i haven’t blocked anyone

  • @LSP1 - Fuck you, you discriminatory bastard.

  • Someone has to piss me off.  Somebody has to be a creeper. Somebody has to be a d bag etc.  Or really annoy the hell out of me.  what about you?

  • I blocked those Valentine Day Spammers  that is it so far. Remember them?
    AsiaStar737 ,HotYoungNSexy642,sexymistress19160,snikerdoodle18301

  • if i did, i’d probably kill a percent of my traffic

  • i’ve never tried

  • I haven’t blocked anyone yet…I suppose it would take creepiness…

  • Sexual harassment or blatant perversion.  Extreme rudeness and disrespect.  When I don’t feel safe around that person.

  • I blocked your mom.

  • i blocked about 20 people yesturday because they were no updating and they had subbed and not commented for several months.  I only blocked them to get them off my subscription list.  I figured if they came back they actually paid attention to their readers and friends list and I would ad them again.  I would only permanently block someone if they were being mean or cruel.

  • Hey, is this question stemmed off from that Theology of a Theologian and evolution post? I have a feeling people are harassing you with messages.

  • cussing me out or leaving me explicit sex stuff…

  • The only person I ever blocked was someone I knew in real life, who I wasn’t very fond of.

  • If people are being over-the-top/ridiculous on their commenting against me.
Especially, if what their saying doesn’t make any sense or
if they start bashing me even when the blog topic has nothing to do with me.
I have so far done it twice with this site.
I have also done it one to many times with the same person just different acccounts multiple times.
    They were a bi-polar troll/stalker.

  • @FallenReign - i think i got the same message! lol  he said he wanted to come live with me.

  • Good question. I don’t have a good answer.

  • Blocking? What’s that? I’ve just thought that my arguments were so powerful that they sometimes caused sites to spontaneously shut down.

I’ve never blocked anyone. I suppose if I ever became so insecure in my own views that I became frightened of others’ viewpoints, I might go into a blocking fit. Not sure that’s happening any time soon.

  • people who visit my site over and over again with no comments or anything.

  • I wish I could block Xanga extra credit messages

  • Christian candy peddlers and loud, dopey republicans. Hey Dan, on another note, why do you put provocative posts out there and don’t answer them? In your theological statement of your beliefs, you put something that controversial out there and just stand back while others express their views of what you had said. I noticed that some people offered a number of paragraphs including myself, waiting for your response and you just sit back while people launch their comments into cyberspace. This is rather s-k-e-t-c-h-y and cowardly behavior.

What, you figure you have so many commentors on here that you can just take them for granted? Well, that may change.

  • Being a creeper.

  • I have blocked:

    Spammers and phishers.
People who write unwarranted mean posts about my friends.
People who make a big public spectacle about unsubbing someone.
People who publicly post private messages.

All of them have shown that they are untrustworthy. Eventually, I unblocked all except the spammers and phishers because I don’t really like to block people.

I also blocked one person who blocked me so I could laugh about the whole silly thing on my blog without her seeing it. I’ll unblock her eventually, too.

  • Stalking, and those who can’t seem to respect me or those who visit my site. Bullying belongs on the playground, not on a blog, and I simply won’t tolerate it. Go back to your own site if you want to complain about how much of a bitch I am.

  • I had this one girl go crazy on me after I left comments on your page. She was the only person I ever blocked.

  • I haven’t yet. It’d probably take someone harassing me or one of my subs (while on my site) for a long period and then I’d issue a few warnings. If all that failed I might block someone. I’ve never issued a warning either so I’m thinking it probably won’t happen.

  • Spammers and stalkers, and anyone who leaves sh*t-tons of of footprints over a period of days. I find it creepy that some one will look so much but never say a word. I’m a paranoid Mommy.

  • I’ve blocked spammers and recently someone who kept leaving weird comments.

  • Harrassment. Even though blocking does no good cause they can just make another user name and do it all over again.

  • Spamming, being a creepy pervert. Getting weird with other commenters.

  • Incessant mass messaging and tagging everybody they can think of for posts that relate to nobody. I suppose I could simply unfriend, but I think blocking sends a stronger message. And besides, those really aren’t the sort of people I want to associate with anyway.

  • I accidently blocked somebody:

I had gotten a bunch of porn spam, fake friend requests, and then someone sent me a real friend request. I clicked her site, and she had a sexy picture of herself in a red dress, and a post on top that was sexually related. I thought at a glance it was more porn, so I clicked back to block her!

Later I noticed her making comments here and there, and I realized it was a real person, so I unblocked her and accepted her friend request. If you know who you are, sorry about that! I was tripped out because of all the porn spam!

  • I have only blocked one person and it was beause he was scary and started to follow me around the internet leaving perverted messages for me.

  • People i know in real life that are stalkers.

  • I’ve never really blocked anyone…

  • I’ve blocked mostly spammers and stalkers. That’s pretty much it. :

  • Spamming via relentless personal attacks.

  • excessive creepery. i blocked one person because he was continually a’creepin’ on me, and i was like “PED0PHILEZZZ no thanks”, but that’s the only person i’ve blocked so far/ever.

  • I block too much. One annoyance and you’re gone. I don’t allow for repeat offenders.

  • Racism & Stupidity.

  • I blocked someone because that person kept messaging me about liking to read the juicy and scandalous stuff I blog about. I don’t consider it juicy and scandalous… to each its own. But he really creeped me out, so I blocked him.

People who leave ‘miserable’ comments or whatever don’t really bother me. The creepiness bothers me.

  • Not posting a profile when requested.

  • Stalking is the least, but I’d block for other things such as harassing me or my readers/friends. I’ve only blocked one person, and that’s my stepmother in disguise–she was stalking me and that’s a no-no.

  • Someone I’d rather not have look at my blog, naturally.  ♥

  • i blocked someone that kept looking on my page and photos, he was middle aged o_o

  • I’ve never had a problem on xanga because the people here are generally more intelligent than average.  I once thought about blocking someone on facebook because he saw a picture of me and told his friend to tell me i should break up with my boyfriend and sleep with him.  All i did was ignore his attempt to friend me and tell our mutual friend that i thought he was a pig, and he never tried again.  I also thought about blocking this girl who was always calling me and chatting on FB with me to complain about all the drama she had created for herself, and ask for a place to stay or transportation or money because she wouldn’t learn to drive or get a job or do anything to take care of herself.  I was going to block her when she was calling me and sending me messages several times a day, but i found that she actually took the hint when i wouldn’t respond in any way.

Basically anyone controlling and/or overwhelming who won’t go away would get blocked, but it hasn’t happened yet.

  • I’ve never blocked anyone . . .

  • @LSP1Cafe - You’ve just been blocked.

  • basically if they are a douche

  • when they wont stop hitting on you.

  • If theyre an ugly male troll, auto block. That includes 99% of the men on xanga

  • If they’re a creeper and send me nasty messages nonstop.

  • I’ve blocked several people because it’s the only way I know of deleting someone’s subscription to me (other than if the person was a friend, and then I delete the friend…I think that does it too). If a person is no longer in contact with me, I don’t want my posts being emailed to him.

Other than that I’ve blocked people who were creepy or mean.

  • Well, I don’t know. Considering no one reads my blog, it would be kind of rediculous to block some innocent Xangan just because I’m whiny and don’t get enough attention.

But rhetorically, spam comments with pictures of lotus boob or goatse would probably cut it for me.

  • I only block the “girls” who think this is myspace or plentyoffish or craigslist or something and send me messages wanting to be my friend and have sex with me >.<

  • I don’t know if I would block anyone. It’s always interesting to see what kind of ridiculous things people might say or comment on your xanga. If they comment alot and obnoxiously on your site, just be proud that you’re getting lots of attention from an adoring fan!

  • I only block bot friend request sites.

  • rude people, stalkers merit a block.

  • Only ultra-creepy stalkish behavior. Like continuously asking me where i live, if i have a boyfriend, etc…

  • I don’t think I have blocked anyone yet, but for me to block someone, they would have to behave pretty badly on my site. Constant personal attacks, stalking, and harrassment would probably all get someone blocked, but no one has done that to me thus far.

  • I’m not sure. I’m still waiting for someone to come along and test my limits.

  • just spam them and say something mean to them and they wont to ya again

  • One guy made (absurdly) racist comments to my other visitors and followed them to their own sites.  I didn’t want to get stuck in the middle of anything, so I blocked him for a while.

I only have one Xangan blocked right now and I have no idea who it is or what they did to bug me.  : )

  • I blocked one person.  The reasons: she flooded my inbox with messages and left rude comments.  I don’t mind comments as long as they aren’t rude.

  • People that comment on my post asking me to check out their latest vids ~ which are porn.  I block them immediately!!!  It is happening far to frequently!!

  • annoying people, horny perverts, stalkers, people that attack you for no reason

  • I haven’t blocked anyone yet, but i guess just harrassment.

  • harassing me with sexual comments or just being plain rude.

    xo

  • and if your name is becky and you are still stalking me after five years, you think, she should give up.

    xo

  • I had someone who belongs to a different political party than I do come to my blog, argue with me and then copy and paste parts of my blog to her blog, and she and her gang used what I had to say as a point of discussion.  I blocked her and her buddies because of the copying and pasting of what I had posted in my blog.

  • I block trolls, rudeness, and closed minded people. Life is too short to deal with those annoyances.

  • Enough money from their rival arch-xangan

    Or a attempted murder

  • I only blocked one person, and that was a girl I knew in real life who wasn’t very fond of me for no reason at all, and that provoked her to block me :)

  • Oh and those creepers who post posts only about sex-related things.

  • I haven’t block’d anyone yet, but I’d block someone if they were harassing me.

  • I got blocked yesterday for accusing someone who has nearly 1500 posts this month, all copied from other sites, of plagiarism.

For me to block someone, if they come onto my site cussing horribly in the comments or attacking my commenters. Either that or the Jehovah’s Witness bots I block them usually.

  • Spammers mostly, but I blocked someone once for harassing me via message.

  • I have yet to block someone, but I can’t stand when people try to leave cute comments that end up being creepy. One or two are okay, but more is just annoying and gives that stalker vibe.

  • They would have to simply belong to my blood related family.

  • Not a lot at all really. Friends lock and empty Xangas are two I could mention, anything with an age restrict on it too.

  • when they are copying the exact same thing as what i wrote on my blog. There’s this person that I really wish to block but she’s from Blogspot, not Xanga.

  • I would have to say rude comments

  • Someone’s who’s constantly trying to pick a fight with me or my guests and using foul language to boot will definitely get the boot, as well as anyone that just comes on to proslytize for their religion or sell something else for that matter.  Such are an insult and a nuisance.

  • Harrassment. Lots of irrelevant messages sent several times a day.  rude comments on posts. not wanting the person to see what i write about.

  • I haven’t ever blocked anyone.

  • If there are images posted that I would not want my children to see and language that is very unnecessary, I block. It’s gotten so much worse lately.  Sorry, it’s been nice knowing you.

  • people who I know in real life that i don’t want to them to my xanga…

  • if they piss me off
