Execution Pay
I was reading an article that mentioned that executioners were paid $850 to pull the switch that would kill someone in the electric chair. Here is the link: Link
That got me thinking of the amount of money it would take me to pull the switch to take a life.
1. $850
2. $30,000-40,000 (Would pay for a full year old college)
3. $120,000 (Would pay for 4 years of college)
4. $250,000 (Would pay for a decent house in Texas)
5. $1,000,000 (Would make life easier)
What is the least amount of money it would take for you to flip the switch?

No real clue. It’s not a job I would care for much. And I would have to be certain it was a monster.
i would not do that job
I don’t know if I could do that job, honestly.
i dont know if i can do it.. they might come back for me
and the expression they have while they’re IN the chair
and the expression of them AFTER.. dot dot dot
Depends. What’s the going rate for Lawyers?
I don’t think I’d kill someone, especially just for money. I could make that money myself.
You could not pay me enough..
I can’t do it – too softhearted.
I don’t think I could do that. It’s interesting though.
Couldn’t do it.
I’d have to have ear plugs and i would close my eyes everytime I did it.
Depends on who I was killing…
i could do it. i mean, someone’s gonna do it, and you might as well be the one getting paid for it.
I would do it.
You wouldn’t get rich. I didn’t think there were many who were actually killed by the electric chair anymore if any.
Plus it would it would depend on the crime as to wheither I would even do it for any amount of money
I’m not sure, I suppose it would depend on who I’m using the chair for and what they did before I would even know if I would be willing to do so. And how would one even go about finding a job doing that?
depends on why the person’s there. probably 1k min. for me.
I would rather not and if I had any problem with who was being executed and way there would not be enough money on earth. That said I can think of a lot of criminals that I would execute for free.
1k’s good
I think it’s the same deal with people who work on morgues… I know I couldn’t do it, but if you’ve got the right mindset for it, it can’t be that big of a deal, so the money for it wouldn’t be as big of a deal. $850 seems like a lot for a few minutes of work, though I suppose it doesn’t happen very often…
its not my place to take a life.
i’ll pass too. my luck, the person would be found innocent later and then i just killed an innocent person.
depends on why that person is there in the first place
If he killed like say 10+ people
I would pull the switch at $30,000-40,000 or even less than that 10,000 is okay
I’d do it for free.
I couldn’t do it for any price. I’m against the death penalty.
gimme the right person and i’ll pay for the pleasure. of course, i wouldnt turn down that million either.
oh god this gives the creeps.
@MusicologyNut85 - I’m with you… and in the case of pedifiles, I’d pay them.
@trunthepaige - I was thinking the same thing.
many kill for simply the words giving liscensure. but you do put forth a thought- while it is quite expensive to invest in life-and a delicious slant of how cheap it is to take it, why not enjoy the moment a bit more? invest in yourselves. invest in society around you. but never forget to instill into all how expensive it is to waste. after all, waste not, want not.

I’d be willing to pay the state to let me pull the switch. Im not sure how much I’d be willing to pay, would probably depend on the person. Like it wouldnt be worth much to me to flip the switch on a retard. And I wonder how long it’d take before it got old. Kinda like riding the same roller coaster over and over.
I wouldn’t do that.
$850 to cause some scum to “ride the lightning”? No problem. Not a very steady source of income though.
No amount of money would induce me to pull the switch. I do not agree with the death penalty; and if the individual circumstances were so vile and the surety of the guilt of the executionee irrefutable such as to induce me to make an exception then I would do it for free.
I’m a poor, student in a poor (x1000000) family.
But I wont flip the switch cuz God is watching.
There is a chance I would do it for $50 000+ but I would really look into the reason why they were there and probably even futher into there life. I do know however that if I did it I would really regret my choice. I don’t believe in god so the fact that it would be a sin wouldn’t really matter to me. It would be morals that bugged me.
@s21littlemissloved - Probably the best comment I’ve read here.
If by some miracle that happened to be my job, then I would do it for however much they paid me usually.
But that would never be my job, and I would never want that job. It’s too much for me. What if they turn out innocent? Even if I was doing my job, I’d feel majorly responsible. Plus, there are other ways of making money, I think, so I’d rather steer clear of that chair.
Oh, and if I had to do it, I would have my eyes closed, flip the switch and run out the room.
There is definitely not enough money in the world to convince me to do that
It’s a state of mind and whom it is in the chair.
Even if they did pay me like $50,000 to do it, I’m not sure I would ba able to if they were scared
That’s a sick way of earning money. I wouldn’t do it.
$850 for less than a second of work? Easy peasy.
If we believe in the death penalty we should be able to pull the switch for the satisfaction of knowing that justice has been served.
If we don’t believe in the death penalty, no amount of money should ever be enough.
But that’s an oversimplification for both sides. In reality soft hearts prevail over right and wrong, and even the strongest convictions can be weakened in the face of evil.
I didn’t answer the question, I know.
30,000-40,000
your telling me I have to pay 850 to pull the switch?
Fine but I get to have my picture taken with him before and after.
I’d say that’s a good 850 spent.
I’d do it for a $250,000. And I’d have to know he was guilty.
i can’t do that
I’m fairly against the death penalty so I couldn’t do it. ♥
I would never do it, even if they gave me all the money in the world. I am that strongly opposed to it.
I could probably manage for $850, honestly. I’d love to have the year’s college tuition, but few places pay what we’d like them to…
You couldn’t pay me enough.
I wouldn’t ever do it. I’m not God.
Not even all the money in the world would make me perform that job.
…but I’d kill a puppy in exchange for a Prada purse
3 unless they said they had someone cheaper, then I would drop to 2.
I couldn’t do that job.
I couldnt be the person who uses lethal injection either.
I seriously doubt very many people could do this, at least for any length of time. To look into a man’s eyes, without knowing for sure whether or not he’s guilty, and then to kill him? To undeniably be responsible for his death?
I don’t think I can take another person’s life if it wasn’t in self defense, or if it wasn’t because they were cheating on me.
$850 is good for me.
Nothing. Not saying I wouldn’t do the job, but I wouldn’t want to be paid.
1 million. I don’t like the idea of killing someone, even if they deserve it.
I could never do it. I’d feel like a murderer even if the person deserved it.
If they hurt someone I cared about I’d do it for free
heck, I’d pay THEM to let me do it
but in all seriousness, if it was someone who hadn’t done something to me I don’t think I could do it… even monsters have people who love them, I don’t think I could finish the job like that even if they deserved it.
I’d like to say “I couldn’t do it” but probably, if tempted with enough, I could. maybe 10,000? i feel like I’d go to myself, “Well, someone’s going to do it whether or not I chose to, and this way, I can donate some of the money to kids in need or something…”
*i should add I’m against capital punishment though
None. I couldn’t do it. I’m not a believer in “an eye for an eye” and I’m not a fan of the death penalty. I am wayyy too much of an optimist and I believe everyone can change — besides that, look at the amount of people rotting on death row that still say they didn’t commit the crimes (and they have nothing to lose by confessing at that point). I couldn’t take another life no matter what.
Well, unless that person killed someone extremely close to me and confessed. And wasn’t repentant at all — “I killed your toddler son and I don’t care. His fingers were a great snack.” That kind of person… well, I’d have no remorse. I’d torture him to death.
Depends on who’s in the chair – if they really deserved to be executed I wouldn’t be picky about how much you paid me – tho the more, the better. If they were innocent or didn’t do so bad a crime I wouldn’t execute them for any amount of money…
I want with all my heart to say I couldn’t do it. I hope that is true, and that I never have to decide.
I couldnt do it if i was in the same room with the guy but if i was just flipping a switch i could do it…
Good question. I don’t think I could do it.
Well someone has to do it, It depends on how frequent I got to do it. A 40hr week, 4 switches an hour, I would be happy with $100 per execution. But if I only got a few here and there $850 sounds like a fair price to me.
I’d do it for the $850. I’m cynical though, and believe the world is already overpopulated as it is, so knocking a few people out here and there will be doing more good than harm.
i’d do it for 30,000 – 40,000 dollars.
$250,000….. $850 is not enough to pull a switch to kill someone (even if he/she deserves it)
I don’t think I could do that for any money.
For years I wondered about whether or not the State has the right to sentence a person to death. Every one of us is a sinner and worthy of death in God’s eyes. In my country, Canada, we used to execute murderers by “hanging by the neck until (you are) dead.” But fifty years (or so) ago our Parliament abolished the death penalty.
Since then we have had a significant number of cases where someone imprisoned for murder was eventually found to be innocent – in some cases after up to twenty years or more in prison.
To get back to your question, I would NOT “throw the switch.”
I know that the death penalty was employed in the Old Testament and I believe there were valid reasons for this, as a grim object lesson of the enormity of the sin of murder and a few other horrid crimes. I personally do not believe that is acceptable punishment in this age of grace.
I don’t think I could.
They could not afford to pay me.
Umm I don’t think a job that pays me to kill people is morally ideal for me. Regardless if the criminal was good or bad. Has there not been cases where the innocent were prosecuted and put to execution? Wouldn’t you feel guilty for killing someone convicted of false pretenses?
Where’s the craiglists ad for that job?
I would not do this kind of job, no matter who was in the chair.
I would do it for the standard 850.
Free. But if I was offered a fish sandwich I wouldn’t disagree.
I wouldn’t want to do it.
Uh, don’t they use lethal injection in the modern world? <.<
So, where do I apply???
I’d pull the switch for free if it were my father’s gf sitting in the chair. She’s evil.
No amount, it doesn’t matter what heinous crimes the person has committed.
I wouldn’t do it if they offered me all the money in the world…
I guess it depends on what the person has done to deserve it… even then I’m not sure if I could do it
If it were 100% certain that they were guilty of a crime warranting the death penalty (not possible to know in our current system, but I digress) … I wouldn’t need money to do it. If not, then no amount of money would convince me.
Um. Of the ones listed, I’d take the $850. Less than that too, probably.
My thinking is, if their in that chair, they deserve to be. (Most likely anyway.)
And, I believe in most states you have a CHOICE as to how you’re executed. They pick that…it’s on them.

@OhItWontBeForever - (: Thankyou!
I don’t think you could ever pay me enough to do that as a job. But there are some people whose switches i would flip for free.
Depending on who it is I would do it for free. That low life child molesting scum bag from Cal. that held that girl for 17 years I would pay the state to throw the switch.
Drug dealers $10 @head
Child Molesters-Free
3 strike convicts- $50.00
Anyone working in Abortion Clinic- Free
Boy is life cheap these days
I’d do it for FREE. Line ‘em up like cattle and clear out the supposed “death row.” We can start with the 84 housed in my own state’s prison.
It depends on who is in the chair.
I might pay for the privilege.
Life is priceless. I would never do it. Although I think with the amount of hate going on in our country now I have to wonder would some do it for nothing?
There is no amount of money that someone could give me to execute them. However, having said that, I was in the Army for 3 years and I was sent to war…I think that I could kill someone trying to kill me, though….
I don’t think I could pull the switch, no matter how much money was on the line.
Thank you for also including the costs of college and basically living, to compare.
It’s made me realize how expensive it is to build a life, and yet it’s so cheap to tear it down.As for your question, It really depends.
I’d do it for a billion dollars to remove a depraved serial killer or rapist.
I wouldn’t. All of that money (and then some) would be going to the counseling I would need after doing it.
Put that annoying broad from So You Think You Can Dance on there and I’ll do it for a buck
I can hardly fry an egg well.
But seriously, wouldn’t be able to do it. The jolting and cries of pain and all that would haunt me, and even though some money could pay for some kickass therapy, it wouldn’t be able to flush out those sights and sounds.
I seriously don’t think I could do it for any amount. And that’s not me being a good person or whatever…I just don’t think I could bring myself to do that. If for no other reason, because it would ruin my entire life and I’d probably feel miserable and guilty forever.
Depending on the crime, you wouldn’t have to pay me. Although I’d probably SAY I required payment, so I’d have some extra money. Ha.
