How Did You Come To Xanga?
I want everyone to participate in this question.
I have a little theory. The theory is that the bulk of the people that come to xanga and stay do not come to xanga through a google search or through looking for a blogging social network.
I believe the bulk of people that came to xanga came to xanga because a personal friend told them about xanga. So at some level, the key to xanga growing is for the users to be so excited about xanga that they invite their friends.
So lets do a little survey here:
Did you find out about xanga from someone you knew? (If it wasn’t through someone you knew, how did you find out about xanga)?
Comments (242)
stalking someone.
A friend introduced us. Ironically, this friend barely blogs here anymore and I blog all the time.
All the little middle schoolers liked to “blog” about their day. I HAD to have one.
I started a site to comment friends who were on here.
I googled search for photo blog.
Yes it was recommended to me by my cousin. He is gone I’m still here
I used Xanga before Myspace, then a few years later, I came back alone.
A lot of my friends on myspace had one so I made one. No one ever uses it anymore but I’m still going strong! I’ve been here for two years.
It was from someone I knew, but I couldn’t tell you who. That was… almost 5 years ago that I got my first account. Maybe 6.
A friend brought me to Xanga.
I first learned about xanga through a friend.
Well, the first time I came to Xanga (about five years ago) it was through friends… They all had it and told me to get it too, so I did. That was pretty short-lived, though. I came back as SerenaDante because I wanted somewhere to blog, and Xanga was the first thing that popped into my head =)
A friend of mine told me about it. Quite funny because I don’t think she blogs on here any more.
A friend of mine told me he had a website. It turned out to be a Xanga. I liked it. The rest is history.
Friends.
In a nutshell, yes, that’s how I got here. But when I was first here, the people I knew who also used Xanga didn’t “blog,” really. We used it pretty much only as a social networking site. Then it got old.
But several years later I remembered Xanga, came back and looked around and saw how amazing it really is as a whole, so I got a new accounted and started all over and I’ve been here ever since! (under several new user names)
Yes, through my cousin. Thought I’d check it out and then thought I’d use it to blog about my religion at the time.
Four years later, and I’m Agnostic. Thanks, Xanga! lol, j/k.
A friend who isn’t really active on xanga much
Yeah, from a friend. And in turn I told a number of friends about the place, none of whom remain here today (neither does the person who introduced me, as a matter of fact.)
A friend told me about it a long time ago and I started one of those annoying icon/quote sites. Then I decided to start my own personal blog. I have told a few friends about it and they’ve joined recently. So, I agree with your logic.
I found out about Xanga through friends who don’t blog here anymore.
bianca brought me here
my friend told me about it
Your a la science theory is true. My sister first had a Xanga where she posted poems and such. I was in fifth grade (what a fifth grader blogs about, I can’t remember). And no, I will not post any of my fifth grade posts.
yeah!! my friend used xanga~~ so then i joined too. and i told my friends to join xanga
but majority of them left because facebook happened -__-…
I talked to a lot of people from some kind of shockwave game or something or other, and everyone had aim buddyprofile’s and xanga’s lol, so I got one.
It was the way to social network before Myspace and Facebook, so naturally I got one to keep in touch with friends.
They’re all gone…
- John
A former friend refer me to Xanga but he deleted his site long ago
My best friend told me about xanga and I signed up about six years ago. A bunch of our friends and stuff had it at the time. she doesn’t blog here anymore and only one of my other friends does now.
Friend: “Hey, there’s a bunch of stupid Christians on TheTheologianCafe’s Xanga site. Why don’t you pick on them?”
Me: “Sure! Sounds like fun!”
Recommended and would love to see your results and hear your conclusions.
I was ordered here by a 15 y/o punk who then ran off to the latest new thing. I stayed. =)
Next question: Do you ever meet anyone in real life who blogs? I know I don;t run in the most cutting edge crowds, but I never ever meet another blogger except online. I wonder why that is?
Good question, friend.
Old Hat
Wow that’s funny, how did you know? Anyhow yes a friend. Xanga is definitely the best because you can get away with murder (j/k) on xanga, but facebook has limits and censorship and also myspace has censorship.
I have been kicked off from all three but xanga is definitely the best because they have tolerated much much more then facebook or mypace put together.
yes, a high school friend who no longer uses xanga introduced me to it.
College buddy.
You see, there was this girl…
I have only been at Xanga for a week or so, but I had tried a couple of other blog sites previously and found it difficult to attract any readers
(possibly a reflection on the crap I tend to write) and they were plagued by technical difficulties. I did a lot of research on all the free blog sites I could find
and Xanga seemed to include all the things I was looking for. The themes also make it stand out from others, but mainly the ease to locate bloggers who have similar interests.
i found the link in a friend’s AIM away message.
A friend from my old site invited me here.
I found out vie someone I was talking with on a forum. I didn’t stay friends with her and they shortly thereafter closed down their site…but I’ve been here, in one carnation or another, ever since.
I also came to xanga through a friend who no longer uses xanga.
My best friend in middle school had me make my first site here.
One of the organizations from my college (a writing group) talked about blogging. Xanga was one of the sites given.
this is my first home. i found it by google search for blogsites. i liked the name.
Several of my students and a fellow teacher got me on Xanga. I’m the only one left now.
I had a ton of people tell me about it years ago… I had one back then but it was short-lived.. I thought of it this year and restarted.. :]
a friend told me about it and I was ready because my best friend have died in 2006 and I just wanted to reach out.
At first, I found the site by Google search, and when I brought it up to a friend, she told me she had one and I should make one too, so I guess it’s basically a combination.
My high school friends were using it. Now, I’m the only one left.
I had an old college professor tell me I would like it.
I was actually in a parenting forum when someone mentioned momaroo. I was not happy with Blogger and wanted somewhere that I could get feedback. I headed straight there (regretting at times that I didn’t just head to xanga itself) and have been here for over a year. I have introduced one friend to xanga thus far. She blogs rarely, I blog daily.
I came a month before my sixteenth birthday in 2004 because a good friend of mine had one and I wanted to keep up with her. Hers is of course long gone (and she’s married now, which I still cannot get over) but I’m still here, somehow…
a friend told me.
A friend told me about hers, so I started reading it and a few weeks later started my own.
@My_HAT_is_older_than_you - That is a great question. I always get the strangest looks when I mention I blog. You know the look; “Oh isn’t that cute” look that they give a little girl with chocolate on her face. Laugh away people, my blog got me into a magazine.
It didn’t get me paid, but it got me there.
A friend that worked at GoMart had quit to have her 1st baby, and as she had no phone, but did have a Xanga account, I joined to keep in touch with her. Been on here two years now, and have no plans on leaving. She is back to work at GoMart after having her 2nd child and is rarely on anymore.
Yeah im pretty sure a heard about it through word of mouth. And i came to stalk a guy a liked at the time….then used xanga to blog and let out my own pent up teenage emo emotions. haha.
Yeah a friend told me about Xanga!
It was popular my freshman year of college. The girls on my floor convinced me to get one… most (if not all) of my college friends have stopped using Xanga, but I am still here.
I got here through someone I know who blogs here all the time. At first I didn’t blog much but now I am here all the time blogging and reading other blogs.
My sister was using it, so I got into it. Ironically, she only posts like twice a year now, and it’s similar with most of her friends; they left for Myspace and Facebook.
A lot of people in my church were on Xanga. The church even has a Blogring. Now pretty much all of them have left for Facebook and/or Blogger and I’m the only one left on here.
from my girlfriend and friends
Have you noticed how many people heard about Xanga through a friend but the friend is no longer on here?
Through a friend who knew it would be a good idea to get my thoughts out of my head. And, so it has.
friend who wasn’t active.
i use it for quotes.
i find the most beautiful quote sites on xanga
Xanga was a HUGE thing at my school in 9th/10th grade. I know for a fact that the person who introduced me to Xanga no longer blogs here.
I just found it in a search for blogging sites a few years back…
A friend told me about it as a place to post photos — she still occasionally posts, but uses FB more — and I have stayed, as it’s a great place for feedback as well as ‘meeting’ people.
A friend who I haven’t seen in years. I think she cancelled her account. I was only 18 at the time and have since had I think it’s 4 Xanga accounts (piperguy was my original, BTW).
from my friend kari and now she never posts on the site anymore or uses it that i know of but i am grateful to have this outlet to place my thoughts on.
My friends suggested me to it – and I’ve been an active member since ’04. So I think you’re on to something.
@LSP1 - Totally agree.
back in like elementary school friends told friends
then when I had the idea of starting a personal blog/journal to let out my feelings I remembered xanga in 10th grade.
I’m an ancient xanga-an. I came around from a spam email, before I knew what spam was. It said “Hey! I found a great site that I think you’ll love” and being naive, I clicked the link. I think “her” name was Zelda or something like that? I thought I read much later that it was a marketing ploy from the xanga team, but maybe not
friends ! they left xanga though. im still the remaining survivor!
yep, a friend of a friend thing…
I found Xanga by googling quotes and then my tastes expanded to actual blogs.
My sister brought me to Xanga!
A friend. May she rest in peace. In fact, her death is partially why I left Xanga for a while. Too many memories.
But you lovely people convinced me to come back without realizing it.
I want to help save the boobs with my picture. What do I need to do!!!
cause like totally ALL my friends in 9th grade had one!
lol that was like 8 years ago? some? they have ALL stopped using, nobody i know uses xanga anymore. but i kind of like it all to myself…
Yes, and for all the pestering to get me to open an account, it wasn’t long before she quit hers.
My daughter brought me here. She’s right up there! ^^
actually ya my friend told me about xanga back in like 05
Not even sure. I remember hearing about it a few years ago, then finally created one in December 2008… and the deleted it. And then created this one a few months ago.
I honestly can’t remember, I first came here in middle school. I remember one of my real life friends had an account so it’s very likely that it could be that.
back in 2004 xanga was big so my friends had one… i made one to follow their lives
I found Xanga through ask.com.
Yep…a student of mine told me about Xanga. I found it much more private than MySpace. I just wish I could keep up with it — I am just too stinking busy these days.
Not sure. I think a friend.
Actually, I did find xanga through a search. I was looking for pics of a somewhat famous person and the one pic I decided to open up brought me to someones thinspo page. I looked around for awhile, seeing what it was all about. Of course, me being a joiner, I had to join, and I’m quite glad I did.
I found xanga through a friend, she had a link to hers in her aim profile.
I found it bc the family posted pics & info about my new/sick baby cousin on here. He is fine now & that cousin rarely gets on here. I had NO idea what an Xanga was so when I signed in I thought I was just signing a guest book.
three or four friends, who have all since left.
Yeah a friend of mine, when I was in high school gave me the link to his because he wanted me to read it.
I read his and thought it looked like a neat website so I joined and I’ve been here for the past 5 years
my daughter invited me to get an account to be able to read her posts while she was away at school many years ago. she doesn’t really do much here any more, but i still do a little bit now and then…
I found out about xanga through my former high school friends. I don’t know the exact reason why because it’s been so long, but I do remember it was through word of mouth. And I am the only one who remains active.
My friends lured me here…I have to admit I liked xangy before.
I didn’t have internet access when I bought my best cell phone to date in January of 2008. I wanted to join a social network because I wanted to meet people. The phone had mobile access to various sites, including Rabble and Vox. I think it cost $2.99 a month per site, so I only wanted to join one. I chose Xanga almost arbitrarily. I think I just liked the logo.
One of my friends from church actually introduced me to it. I’ve been on here since.
Wow..a lot is from friends who don’t blog anymore…guess I am jumping on that too..friends who don’t blog nomore.
i was looking at my phone and i saw aplications and i saw sprint zone and i read thru it and i thaught it was pretty cool
class project
friend but they dont use it much now..lol
i came because my crush (hey, this was 2004 i was 19) had one. he left soon after, but im still here chugging along.
College friend talked me into joining, then he quit updating. The bum.
Yup, I found out from a friend in fifth grade. And I’ve been addicted ever since
Back in 2003 (?) my teenage kids found Xanga, they joined this social community. Being a vigilant mother, I signed up to keep track of them, their friends, and to make sure no weirdos would come to their site. They have left the site for FB,MySpace. I’ve stayed and have made great friends through xanga.
i just happened upon you guys id like to know more
You know it.
A friend told me about Xanga and set up an account for me and I’ve been on here ever since.
yeah I learned about it from shdware and he’s never here anymore…a lot of the people that were here at first are now gone…but some of us have stayed…in fact I’ve referred a few, they started and then left…go figure…smile
def thru a friend… come to think of it i’m not sure who anymore LOL .. i do remember it was a he and he was asian.. he sent me a link to one of his entries.. and yeah… I happened to find everyone at my schools blogring and bam i signed up! been on here since 2002 baby! (with several hiatuses of course >.<)
a good friend. that was when i was a freshman in high school… 8 years ago.
i haven’t changed my xanga name and the longest i’ve been without a post has been a month. i think i should win some award or something.
My teenage angst brought me here… it’s been a good 5 years : )
My cousin reccomended it to me – but she isn’t very active on xanga anymore.
Yes, through a college friend, who still has an account but doesn’t really post anymore.
Yea. Years and years ago xanga was really popular among the younger high school crowd and I joined along. lol
I had friends on here, it was the hip thing back in 2003, they (mostly) left…I didn’t.
from somebody’s personal website, maybe from the guestbook, back in 2003
Xanga was recommended to me a few months ago by …………..MY THERAPIST
The truth is, it’s all my fault. I finally gave in to a number of my friends telling me I needed to get on Xanga. when I finally did was about the time Xanga went into decline. I accept full responsibility for my actions and throw myself on the mercy of the court.
in middle school my friend had one so i got one, too.
I was in rough spot and felt the need to write about it. i asked a friend where they blogged and they said xanga…didn’t for a long time but since it was still here i just picked it back up. you can even scroll through it all still (if you are immensely bored), read my old knitting posts and watch my marriage fall apart. lol
My older brother told me about it about 3/4 years ago. I got an account and I never really touched it. This is my new account from last year.
I was looking for a place to blog and started a few blogs all using the same material. Xanga was by far the most interactive, so was where I chose to be my primary blog. I told some others of my experience and they joined xanga too.
@trunthepaige - Thats how I started although they were a friends at my church that talked me into starting it.They were 3 sisters that two of them actually worked for me for a little while. They no longer mess with it anymore either.
I found it through Yahoo search engine and have been here for about 5 years now. Not that long on this account, I had a name before this but was getting stalked before Xanga had to footprints and xanga lock so I changed names,
I actually did find Xanga on a Google search for a place to blog. That was a few years ago though. I didn’t blog for quite some time. Then over the summer I wanted to start blogging again. I made an account with blogger and it wasn’t very satisfying. Then I remembered Xanga.
haha definitely. i came on xanga 6 years ago, my freshman year of high school, because my cousin had one, and she had a link in her AIM profile. it all began because of her. i then invited all of MY friends on xanga. i kind of miss the days when my friends used to update daily. it used to be a daily routine to write about our debaucheries/adventures of high school everyday haha.
Indirectly through a friend with the help of google
I was directed to Xanga by a bunny looking at their watch before hiding in the bush. Where did that bunny go?
I got my xanga site from the students of my school. One of them signed me up and I really didn’t use it much until about 8 months ago. I love it here now. I read many interesting posts.
Yup, it was definitely my best friend who introduced me to Xanga during my freshman year of high school.
I got two of my roommates to join just this year!
the website iconator.com. a lot of the people on there had graphic or photography sites on here, so i decided to make my own. ended up using it as a person blog, and here i am, a year and a half later.
No, I actually did research blogging communities. I knew that I wanted to blog and Xanga is the one that I settled on.
My friend Eric told me about it. ♥
Our sons used to leave it up on screen and I started reading and “lurking”…remained in stealth mode until finally getting the courage to take the plunge myself (hence my username).
Oh well, it was my old friend Joe Jesseph who blogged on here for years (he died this last year, and he’s gone), but when I started looking for a blogging platform I simply asked him why he chose Xanga, and he gave me such an extensive analysis of the pros and cons of Xanga, compared to the alternatives, that I did not spend much time looking further. In all I’m not happy for it, the one major limitation that will make me run away if they don’t solve it is guest blogging. I want to be able to grant guest blogger status on my blog to another blogger, with appropriate controls. I.e. I might want to approve all the posts.
I heard about it from two friends several years back and miraculously remembered the name of it. After moving to Florida, my antisocial self decided to blog about my nonexistant social life and thus ai_shitemo was born (username courtesy of a perverted Japanese song.)
friend mentioned it =]
I came the summer before my sophomore year of high school because my friend told me about it. We’d just randomly post blogs about our daily lives at school, or I’d post quizzes. Then I left and came back the summer before my sophomore year of college, this year.
I came here to comment on a friend’s Xanga and joined. I too have recommended it to others, or they come to read me and have also joined. Word of mouth goes a long way.
I found out about it through a boy I had a crush on. LOL.
Random photo searching on GOOGLE. Found a photo I wanted to comment on, so I signed up. I have other sites, but use only Xanga on a regular basis.
a friend told me to.
Yes, someone told me about Xanga so i checked it out and fell in love…LOL
It was 2002 when the world of Xanga was introduced to me. I remember it clear as day. I was in my school’s computer lab and some girls had a crush on a guy. We were all scattered around a girl’s computer looking at his Xanga page. Then I saw that a few of my friends had Xangas and I got one too to keep up with them.
Those were the days before Myspace, Twitter, and Facebook. Xanga was really the only thing of it’s kind honestly that we knew of. I always wondered if Xanga had been marketed like Twitter and Facebook would it have been the same?
I found out from someone else and also wanted to have a blog while I was traveling around the world
I joined to xanga for the blogging community. However – I actually found out about it from a from a friend who stole the photo’s from people in the “photography” group. She told me about it, I came to it, etc. etc.
So I guess I’m a bit of both
I overheard someone’s mom deleted their Xanga in the 8th grade, so I looked up the site, didn’t like it then, never looked here for awhile after that. During that time, never heard about the site any further. End of Last year, I wanted a place to write; looked up different blogging networks, Xanga was categorized as for teens, and seemed Myspace like so I signed up. And, now, my needs for a place to have drastically changed.
my sisters had it. i had one before i had the one that i have now, but aznangel655 didn’t have the maturity chickaroo did. and then i’ve recently changed it to my name, well phonetically. i bet no one cared about the history of my name.
Yup, I had several friends that were on here and I wanted to be cool like them.
I was looking for a blogging spot and I found Xanga and stayed because of the friendly people here and the ease of use.
My son introduced me to Xanga.
My sister and her kids all had sites so i made one to just stay in touch… Soon all my sisters and my mother too had xanga accounts. They have drifted away but I’m still here.
A few friends of mine in high school had Xanga, and some friends eventually moved to other states, so this was a good way of keeping in touch.
I wasn’t happy with other blogging communities, some of which everybody knows. I Googled it (sorry Dan) because I was looking for something different from Facebook, MySpace and Blogger. Something was different here so I tried it out. Here I stay.
“I believe the bulk of people that came to xanga came to xanga because a personal friend told them about xanga.” —YES, very true!
The friend who told me about Xanga was Arian
stumbled across it accidentally,,, i dont know how,, ive slept since then,,, but i assure you,, i knew no one who knew of it… as a matter of fact,, when i tried to recommend it,, people confused it with zango,,, or zanga,,, however its spelled,,, that name scares people away,,, hahahaha,,, virus,,, they said it was…
High school friends pressured me into getting one. It was the thing.
Ex-girlfriend brought me on here initially haha
I was invited to XANGA and then I invited others to XANGA.
@Roadlesstaken - Your ex-girlfriend? Me? Heh heh! Just kidding!
I first came to Xanga almost 10 years ago, someone emailed me, I think it was a recruiter from the site, named Bianca. I blogged for a while when I was in university but then stopped once I started my career. Now I’m back after having kids and looking for a hobby I guess.
Through my cousin, Franksabunch.
I was intro’d to this website in 2003 by the Asian guy I was dating at the time. I was 14 years old. Xanga is so different and I often have difficulty navigating it because I’m still used to the old layout. A lot of my friends back then blogged but most of them are one Facebook now so I can blog whatever I want and no one that knows me will ever read it haha.
how strange that the majority of us was introduced be the very people that scarcely use xanga!
myself included. (:
I forgot. D:
- Kunoichi
yes, someone i knew had his xanga page link on another social networking site…i think friendster…
I was keeping in touch with an online pal (via email and Friendster) and discovered Xanga through him. LOL He ended up meeting his soulmate and wife on Xanga too. I still keep in touch with both of them.
Someone on a forum posted about her blog on Xanga.
you are right lol. i was in middle school-like 8 years ago and we were in the library and my friend decided to make one for me without my knowledge.
A old friend. We lost touch but I am a blogger now. I tell all my friends and one had joined so far!
A friend introduced me a long time ago. We’re both still blogging occasionally.
I actually don’t remember
A friend back in middle school.
it just was fate that brought me here. lol
google search
Times magazine article on the new phenomenon of blogging. That was 2002. I am as old as the hills in xanga time.
I found in the search for a reason to slack off at work… Ironic part? I got promoted and am now one of the hardest working people I know in my section.
i don’t know i just ended up here!
samderella told me.
My teacher had a Xanga blog. I wanted to posta comment on the blog but I needed an account so I joined.
In seventh grade, a bunch of people suddenly started posting links to this thing called a “xanga” in their AIM profiles. eventually I clicked on a few and hopped onto the bandwagon.
most everybody from that time is inactive and on facebook now, but I’m still happy to be here.
A friend introduced us. But my friend rarely visits here anymore and I blog here frequently.
You’re correct about me… when I was 16 a friend I’d met at an SAT prep camp told me about her Xanga and naturally, I became curious. I got one and I’ve never abandoned it… well, never for too long. We all have our little ‘Xanga breaks’!
Well, unlike most of the folks here, I learned about Xanga through a search. As I looked for different ways to advertise my on line stores, I found this site through a search. I found this site to be exceptionally friendly, enjoyed reading the blogs and, have met quite a few fantastic people each time I visit. I love this site. Since registering on this site I have also told a lot of my friends. I also shared this site with my friends on Facebook, which was so easy to do.
A friend invited me.
thinspo / support
Yeppp, you know my story.
I agree in that if you come to Xanga from Google or something, it is just a site. Whereas if a friend takes the time and effort to tell you (all) about this place, there is that understanding and connection right from the start.
But my friend didn’t tell me much about Xanga, so it took my own looking around, exploring and discovering, making friends and stuff, before I opened up and have built that bond with Xanga!
It’s funny because recently, someone commented that it was great that I “got to know how fun Xanga can be when you are not hiding about who you are.” I don’t feel like I was hiding who I was at the start… it was just that, to me, Xanga was just another website. The thought of talking about who I really was never actually crossed my mind. But when I began to see Xanga as an actual community, that is when I realised that actually, I am a piece of this puzzle, so I need to be myself so I can be somebody.
And when you open up somewhere (just like when you open up to a friend), there is that relationship and trust that you don’t want to lose: so you are more hesitant to ever leave. Though of course, there are always exceptions.
I was introduced to Xanga by my cousin angel_vow who also recruited RestlessButterfly. angel_vow and RestlessButterfly met during the broadcasting of Malaysian reality talent tv show Akademi Fantasia Season 2. It took a reality show to bring us all together in Xanga. angel_vow recruited his sister and I recruited my sisters. Others followed by word of mouth and introductions to the Xanga in our other online forums and also Malaysian interactive tv channel. Hey, I introduce Xanga to the Malaysian tv audience, Xanga Team. Be more appreciative of me. I even appeared on tv wearing a Xanga t-shirt!
I had been at Diary-X, for a longggg time, until it CRASHED! Then a friend told me about Xanga. So I headed over here, and I’ve been here ever since.
I sort of outgrew the site I used to write at.Nameless_woman had been bugging me to come here, so I did.
And I’m glad I did.
All my friends were on in high school… now they’re ghosts.
I was looking for a blogging site and came across xanga. I didn’t google it… I did a yahoo search.
My girls used to use xanga.
An old friend who abandoned his Xanga site invited me.
A boyfriend shared a blog his 16 year old daughter wrote. I had never heard of xanga before.
friend, before blogging became popular.
my friends used xanga and kept going on about the smileys and stuff so i created one just for fun and have been using it ever since.. ((:
I got on here because I used to have Xanga a good like 5 years ago, when me and all my middle school friends were on here, I came to the site to try to find my old site, and old friends and see if they updated. (Can’t find them or even my old account!) But then I saw home much Xanga has changed and I was inspired by some of the blogs I read, and I thought I owed it to myself to create an account. And here I am.
I heard about it from a friend.
In 2003, when I was a senior in high school, one of my friends told me about it. I told some of my other friends about it, and they got on board too. I’m the only one left.
friends told me about it.
xanga was the place to be for my group of friends in 8th grade
I found xanga from someone on youtube. His account had mentioned his xanga site and I decided to take a look, and it just exploding from there.
Yes.
Yes, I heard about it through a friend.
My sister, NoGraySunflowers.
I came by way of Google, researching pesticides on veggies.
Recommended by a friend, who no longer blogs here.
leader of the youth group at church said all the kids have a xanga – never saw any of the kids from church here (TG)
Yes.
I was doing a search on a Bible study I was doing. I found anna.xanga.com. I now read her every day, and have learned a lot. Eventually, I opened my own account so I could comment on her blog. Since I have been a stay at home mom, I blog a lot myself, nowadays.
I think your observations are absolutely right. Like many of the comments I’ve read, I was brought to Xanga (way back in 2003) by a friend, who no longer uses Xanga. I’ll also say that I’ve brought a number of users to Xanga (mainly college friends and roommates), some of whom are very active here today.
I found out about xanga though Kestryl’s cousin! So she is indirectly the reason I am here
When we found out my son was addicted to drugs, I knew he had a Xanga at the time. I started mine so I could read his.
I found out through a friend of mine. I think it was in 2002, and I was in 7th or 8th grade… blogging was very new to me. We really just got on and decorated our sites like crazy for fun. Any posts were pretty mundane.
I was doing a little online stalking and found an estranged friend on Xanga. The rest is history.
My best friend from eighth grade got me to join. We have since lost the friendship and she has since left Xanga.
Friends
My brother got one because his friend got one and I got one too
It was big back when I was in middle school. Everyone had one so I got one too. Now, I’m the only one who still uses it.
Yes, a friend of mine had a Xanga throughout high school had a Xanga and introduced me to it. I didn’t get one right away and my first one wasn’t for blogging purposes but more to indulge in my insecurites and to lose weight, but I’m glad I started using it because I have been using it for at least five years now (under various usernames) and I have loved it, still do.
My friend wanted to show me his new guitar. Since then I started reading his site religiously. I didn’t actually want to write here but I wanted to leave him comments and at the time I had to create an account to do so. Then I wanted comments for whatever I wrote. The rest is history.
My best friend referred me 6 or 7 yrs ago. I had to change my user id due to a wannabe stalker, tho. My best friend broke up with Xanga around the same time she broke up with the guy that referred her to Xanga, sadly.
Your theory is a law, sir.
yep. And I’m not subbed to any of them anymore. or they just up and left.
Buddies told me.
A small group of my friend introduced me two years ago. None of them use it, but I’ve been using it off and on for all this time
Someone introduced me: Xanga was popular then (2004) and apparently all Asians had it and I must have been living under a rock to not have one.
She no longer blogs (since it stopped being the new thing) and I blog faithfully (even though there are hiatus lol).
I had about 10 friends from Undergrad…When things started getting busy in all of our lives, they started blogging. One of our friends when to England, so I joined so I could read about her study abroad experience. I then started blogging myself when I studied abroad in Italy. I’ve been doing it ever since.
Yes, a friend told me about it.
My friends in college (~ 6 years ago) all had xanga blogs; so I started on too. I was HopSkipGal. I deleted that a few years later and came back in ’07 b/c I wanted a blog page and had taken a dare to not join facebook or myspace. It’s still the only social networking site i’m a member of.
My sister suggested I xanga. I’m not sure how she found out about it – probably through friends. But she has since switched over to facebook only. I’m still here.
i was into writing then and wanted to find a place where I could jot down my feelings. So I Googled “free blogs” and Xanga came up. Ohhh the wondrous world of Google!
Yup, it was all because of my friends!!
i found out from a friend..
I did find out about Xanga from a friend, yes.
I came to Xanga in fall 2004 while studying abroad. A few of my friends there were on Xanga as a way to keep in touch with people back home. I started commenting on their blogs, and later finally started my own. All of my original Xanga friends have dropped off, but I’ve made some new ones and am still around.
I don’t really remember, but I know it wasn’t because of another person. I don’t have any friends here, only a few elsewhere online, and none personally…
Initally, my friend was on here, back when it was more like an internet diary than a orum site. 2003-2004. It was Shannyn, Tyler, and Myself, all reading each other’s depressive entries and trying to convince each other that sucide wasn’t the answer. Shannyn and I Had a falling out and we all stopped talking, I deleted my Xanga.
Shannyn and I recently reconciled and we were talking about this site, so I figured I’d see what it was like now. Now I’m pretty addicted >.<
A friend of talked about it and showed me her page.
