  • Kate Plus 8

Jon from the show “Jon and Kate Plus 8″ found out the other day he was being removed as a major player of the show.

Jon and Kate are going through a divorce and have 8 children together that is the basis for a show.

The directors of the show decided to rename the show “Kate Plus 8.”  This would be cutting Jon out as a major player of the show.

Jon sent a “cease-and-desist order” to the network to stop them from filming the children for the show.  He is saying that the show is bad for the children.  Here is the link:  Link

Do you think the kids should be able to film for the show without the permission of their father?

  • Idiots.

  • Since they’re minors and he is the father, he does have say.. IMO, the whole show should be stopped.  The poor family.

    P.S.

    FIRST FUCKERS!

  • He was certainly fine with it when he was part of the show.

  • Whoever has custody should have that right. If it is a joint custody situation I don’t know.

  • I agree with @Paul_Partisan, however, I would never have my kids on TV like that.

  • I’m not a lawyer. I don’t know what the law would say in such a case.

But my personal opinion… it might be nice if no children could be used in a reality show, no matter which parent approved it.

  • well i do think that they need teh concent of the father to shoot anyways! Unless they go to court and figure out who gets custidty they cant shoot with out the fathers ok! But i do feel bad for kate haveing 8 kids by her self. But i do think she is selfish and only wants to just be on TV, and is not thinking of the children!

  • This makes me sad :(

  • i think the whoe situation is so fucked up.

  • He’s just mad because he isn’t on there anymore.

  • I wouldnt want my kids out like that.  They’d never be safe.

  • @Paul_Partisan - Joint cusitdy they both need to say ok so as of now unless jon says ok they cant roll teh cameras

  • I think they shouldn’t cut him out of the kids life, he’s still their father for fawks sake! Yeah he let them before, but at the same time he was there and he knew what was going on, if he’s not going to be on set or able to be with his children on “set”, then he has every right to say no they can’t be filmed.

The producers just want more money making it seem like Kate is going to be the only one in the kids life, and try to get the whole “aw single mother of 8″ sob factor.

Jon has every right to say no.

  • @thoughmomma - I agree with the part that Kate just wants the money. That’s probably why she wanted to cut Jon out in the first place. She has a comfortable lifestyle with money coming in, Jon is putting that in jeopardy for her.

    Shameful

  • when I got divorced I cut him out of all the photos but that was me. Thank goodness mother keep her photos with him in them.lol that was along time ago

  • I think both parents should have to agree. I also think that they should maybe get out of the lime light alittle and get their stuff together.

  • This is a messed up situation. As soon as he gets the axe he sends the cease and desist order out? He’s too money hungry for his own good.

  • I agree it’s just free publicity that their mother wants..shes in it for the money. Her children are feeling the pain of divorce and TV just makes it worse for them.

  • If one has custody and the other doesn’t..it is the one who has custody who has the say.

  • This is getting so messy. They need to stop. I think the show should’ve ended when they got divorced. I was actually a big fan of the show till this mess started. Poor kids.

  • I think he’s only doing it out of spite, not because he’s concerned for the children.

  • @CalLie_nicolebaby - I’m sure she’s in it for the money when it comes to supporting her family. She has things like college for eight to think about. What about Jon traveling the world, wanting to design a children’s clothing line, and even making plans with Lindsey Lohans father to develop a tv show of divorced fathers? It’s ridiculous what he’s doing. I feel bad for the children when they get older and have to read about what their father has done.

  • No. The show should really be canceled. It’s now all about the divorce.

  • @UnrevealedTruth_xo - To be honest i believe it’s both…TV really changes a lot of people. The kids are the ones i fe sorry for as well.

  • Yes, stopping the filming now will prevent permanent mental trauma from gaining it’s hold on all the children.  Everyone knows a family with eight children can only be filmed for three years without it doing serious damage.  Why hasn’t anyone looked at the studies?!

  • I agree that he was just fine with it when he was on the show and getting the money from it. now that he’s not going to be in the show and not getting money, he doesn’t want it done. how convenient. I think it’s stupid for either of them to include those kids in the show. that’s exploitation and anyone who watches that show is just as guilty

  • @weakerlink - good one, haha.

= time to call it quits folks.

  • I wonder if things would be different if it was his name that rhymed with the number of kids they had.

  • those kids went from “great shot” to “no shot”.

  • It’s all about the money. After all these years they’ve been filming his kids, he suddenly has a moral problem with it when he won’t be making enough to party in NYC and St. Tropez anymore.

  • Funny he was okay with exploiting his children as long as he was getting money for it.

  • @BebstersBlog2 - Yes because the number that rhymes best with “John” is “one” and if that’s how many they had there wouldn’t have been a reality show

  • No, and  the better option would probably be to stop the show =

  • His reasoning is completely true.  But it is also completely laughable since that was just as true when they signed on to do the show as it is now and it never bothered him in the slightest until he was booted from the show.

  • I find it “Funny” that now he is being cut out of the show it is bad for them. But when he was a part of it it was fine. So what is Kate supposed to do to support the kids. Does Jon make enough to make sure they have everything they need?!?!

  • no. he was fine when he was on it. he doesnt want the publicity to fade but,the show should be cancelled and the poor kids need to be left alone

  • It’s bad for the kids?
How did he intend to pay the college tuition of eight children?
How did he plan on feeding them?
Hell, how would he support his Ed Hardy addiction??
Funny how it wasn’t bad for the kids when he was profiting too.

.@UnrevealedTruth_xo - my thoughts exactly.  He is the world’s biggest douche right now.

  • People still watch that shit?

  • Jon doesn’t matter, he is a cheating whore!!!

  • It all has to do with where legal and physical custody lines are drawn. If Kate has sole legal and join physical, Jon can’t do a thing. However, if legal and physical custody are share between both parents, Jon can legally take Kate to court for child endangerment or something like that for putting his kids on the show.

Honestly, I think reality TV does more harm than good and shouldn’t exist, especially in the lives of such impressionable children. Let kids be kids.

  • jon is a jerk, and i’m not talking about resisting his kids being filmed. he’s just a jerk in general, those poor kids.

  • wow quite hypocritical isnt he? so its only ok for them to film the children if he’s ON the show.. ahhhh I get it now…

  • why is it SUDDENLY bad for the kids?

    thats just dumb

  • I think there is a valid point to be made that now the show will be documenting the familys disolvement.

I personally wouldn’t want people filming me when my parents were going through a divorce. Having that done would in my opinion be harmful. However, I don’t think that was the motive of John. I think he was looking for retrebution about being cut from the show.

  • He certainly seemed okay with it before this whole mess started.  IMO, the whole show should be stopped.  Have the people of this country sunk so low that they need to watch a family tear apart for entertainment?

  • I think if a both parents have a right to decide. Father’s never have the same rights as a mother and I dont think its fair at all. having said that in this situation its different. He was happy enough for them to be on TV before sounds like he’s just pissed he doesnt get to be on it now. I’ve never heard of this program but it sounds kinda sick – who would have their children on tv like that?

  • never watched it, but I say ‘no’.

  • @Paul_Partisan - Child custody and authority to make joint parenting decisions for the kids are not legally the same.  A father does not lose that right to have a say in his kid’s lives if his kids live with his ex-wife (unless there are extenuating circumstances).

  • Fun shit.

  • Both parties consent is required to continue the exploitation of their children.

  • What kind of TV contract do they have?  I’d assume that he and Kate had to sign.  Nothing he can do against a contract he signed…

  • Not only is the show bad for the children, it’s also bad for the viewers.

    It’s crap.

  • he was obviously fine with it until he got kicked off.

  • i never like the shows about those families. why is it so big of a deal about parents with more than 5 children? they are signing up this lady whos got 5 kids and had another 6 kids or something and shes single? douno her info but my point being, it all goes on. they got the daggard on the show, too. whatever!!

  • I guess that really depends on the stipulations of the divorce at this point.

  • Well after seeing what happens to these childhood stars later and life! Yeah I think its bad for the children give them a normal life for cries sake!

  • They shouldnt have put their kids on TV in the first place

  • I think they should all just drop the show. I don’t think the kids need to be on, especially with this difficult time. However, they have a mom that likes the attention & money! (from what I’ve heard…) so. I guess they will be staying on.

But I think as a father. He DOES have a say!

  • Nope!  I think they shouldn’t have been doing this all along!  This multiple-births stuff has gotten way out of hand.  It’s not cute, and should not be rewarded.

  • It depends on what legal rights he has in relation to the children and how custody works specifically for them.  It may be that while the children are with their mother, she has full say in what they can or cannot do.

  • Kate Gosselin and ‘Octomom’ Nadya Suleman should make a reality show together. Both are single mother with multiple births and both are needy bitches!

  • Divorce just plain sucks. Especially after kids are involved.

And to think Hector encourages divorce.

  • Yeah, I agree that it should be cancelled.  It’s exploiting the kids and the family’s problems.

  • Of course it is bad for the kids to be on television, especially now that they are going through one of the hardest things children ever have to go through. I’m glad their dad either woke up to the fact at last, or maybe he just wants revenge, but either way I think getting the kids off the show would be good for them. I can’t even imagine the pain those poor kids are going through with mom and dad going at each other and cameras shoved in their face 24/7. Our society really sucks for kids sometimes.

  • As much as I think they are bumbling idiots, I think that Jon has as much say as Kate does, if they have shared custody, over the matter. It’s also still his house so he additionally has the right to say, “Not on my property” until it is turned over to Kate.

And frankly, if it stops the tv crews from exploting those kids, then I am all for it. I used to love the show, but after they announced the divorce, it just became wrong. No child should be filmed talking about how they miss the other parent and no parent should put the other on blast on national tv, no matter the circumstance. It’s just wrong. I know that I hated hearing my mom bash my dad when she said it just to my sister and me, so I cant imagine what it would be like to hear it on national tv.

  • Ha, now it’ll just be called “Kate”.

  • Kate is to blame but she gets to stay on the show? Pfff

  • Jon is just angry that they seriously cut him from the show. That’s it. He has to keep his “fame” somehow and, without cameras being around when he’s doing his job as a parent (if he does, which I seriously doubt) he has nothing. What a shame. *please note the faux sympathy*

@decayedjadee - They aren’t cutting him out of the kids’ lives. Just the show.

  • It makes no difference to me one way or another.  I truly can say that I could not care less.

  • I think my biggest problem with all of this is; he didn’t have  any problems when he was riding that money train. Now that he has been cut out of the profits, suddenly it is “devestating his family”.

Now, as far as the legalities; pretty sure they will need both parents consent to continue. However, there has been a precedent set with the taping of the show, so that will most likely come into play. Hopefully the judge will see this man for the idiot he is and ignore his whining.

  • Yeah, it needs to stop now.

  • why dont they just cancel the show * 0* ?

  • If it’s joint-custody, both parents should have to agree on what to do, but if one doesn’t want to do the filming, it shouldn’t be allowed. Otherwise, whoever has custody should decide.

  • I think it was a bad idea from the first place. However his timing makes it seem like more of a power play then a genuine concern for his kids. He didn’t have a problem with the show when his name was in the title.

  • No.  If the father says no, the network should respect him and not air the show.

  • No child should be exploited on these TV shows. I thought it was wrong before it ever leaked that they were parting ways. Although I did watch the show a couple of times I don’t watch this type of show because I don’t want to support it. Even worse the show that has 19 or 20 kids. They are just having kids to make money. Why not just sell them?  They are selling their normal childhood.

  • I have to say that it should be stopped – it should never have started in the first place.  It IS bad for the children.

  • I think the show should be taken off the air.  It’s exploiting the kids.

  • A lot of child advocates and culture watchers (myself included!) have been weighing in on this subject.  There are both moral and legal issues involved.  In the show’s beginning, it was a reality show… unscripted and with crews showing up every once in a while to film the family in its normal course.  That evolved over time as the series grew popular.  Gradually, the crews became virtual live-ins and directed the activities.  That’s when child labor laws SHOULD have kicked in… when the children became “actors” rather than “participants”.  Unfortunately, child labor laws are often indifferently enforced; especially where the entertainment industry (and its immense clout!) is concerned.  Child actors being overworked- laws notwithstanding- is an ongoing scandal that has been underappreciated for the last century!

The moral aspects as those of the degraded status of children in the Industry itself.  The traditional results are parental greed, children as cattle and family disfunction; resulting in unstable young adults when the kids grow up.  And these are the “amateur” acting families.  In the professional Hollywood ones, these factors often become severe indeed.  Remember:  Child exploitation to the point of actual child pornography has become legitimized in Hollywood.  If they can get away with it, they will.  “Jon & Kate + 8″ only proves that no family is beyond their corruptive reach in the present day.

  • I cried when they announced they were getting divorced. All I could think of is how that decision was going to affect the children. I agree, the whole show should be canceled. Legally, though, I don’t know if he should or does have the right to cancel it. They have joint custody.

  • He’s just having a fit cause he wont’ be the center of attention.  what a little bitch.

  • @weakerlink - lol so true

@gagyourmouth - Hmm, good point… I thought he wanted to leave too.

Regardless of the situation, the show should have both parents’ permission.  I also think that TLC cut him out either because Kate asked them, Jon opposed continuing the show, or both.  I definitely think that the show should be cancelled.  I do not think a show all about a divorce is healthy for anyone, especially the kids.  Those poor kids are just being exploited for more money, especially by Kate.

  • The show just needs to end, period. Kate is just being greedy.

  • Nope. It’s their dad.

  • Umm….never watched the show, never will.

  • He’s just pissed because he’s off TLC’s payroll

In any case, it’s about time that show bites the dust

  • He should definitely have a say!  I imagine its like any other right a non-custodial parents has over their children, such as mandatory permission before one parent can take the children out of the country, or move a significant distance away.  As long as the action significantly impacts the lives of these children, both parents (custodial or non-custodial) should have a say in the matter.

  • jon and kate make me sad.

  • I NEVER have watched their show and am glad. I hear about them sometimes though.

  • @gagyourmouth - oh, I don’t really keep up with him or her.

  • they should continue the show.. jon is just being a self-absorbed asshole… its like when they decide to take his name out of the title and not have him be on it, now he doesnt want to do the show… why is he speaking out now? why didnt he say anything before?…. oh yeah i know, cause hes a monumental deuchebag

  • @gwacemom@momaroo - you said it… i really dont think that jon is concerned for his kids in this case… hes just being an asshole about it and trying to make things harder for kate and the kids… youre right, when he was receiving money from the show, everything was peachy…  now that his name has been cut out of the title and hes not going to be receiving a dime, hes all concerened about the welfare of his kids… BULLSHIT

  • I don’t think Jon’s intentions are for his children, but himself. In my opinion putting young children on a reality show isn’t good, watching them face a divorce on television is worse, and now that he’s booted from the main characters he says it’s harming his children? I think it’s mostly about dollar signs in his favor.

  • I am happy that they cancelled the whole damn thing.

  • If it’s so bad, why did he allow it before? I wish that family would go away.

  • He’s just mad cause his gravy train is leaving. How will he be able to pay for his New York apartment now? Hey, maybe they can make THAT into a reality show.

  • depends on who is the main care taker.

  • Well, I think Jon is using the kids as pawns in the divorce, but I really never liked the idea of their private lives being public, even when the family was together and happy.

  • This goes to show you what happens when a normal family gets a lot of money and fame. I live about 10 miles from them and there place is gorgous. Remember money can’t buy happniess. I think they both have issues and both need to see a counseller.

  • Dear Dan:

The Gosselin case is more complex than most people realize.  It’s more than just a custody case between a divorcing (celebrity) family.  There are legal and moral considerations in play here that reflect some truly fundamental questions.  As all too often, the idiocies and irresponsibilities of adults in the popular culture are imposed on their children… which, in turn, imposes on children in society at large; both directly and indirectly.

Much centers around the question of whether the Gosselin children are child actors (as they seem to have become with the show’s evolution) or remain “participants” (an increasingly common legal dodge among TV producers).  This calls into question child labor laws and financial questions as per that status.  It also helps illustrate the all-too-common tendancy of authorities to look the other way when TV or film producers bend or break the rules with children.

But the prime question remains that of the childrens’ custody and upbringing.  BOTH parents have demonstrated (repeatedly) that their own interests have become ascendant over that of their children and that their children, who are largely responsible for their parents’ fame and fortune, have become mere financial assets in their eyes.  (This is now a frighteningly common situation among child actors in Hollywood.)  The time has come to remove those children to a more nurturing environment.  And in the process, the time has also come to reassert basic rules of decency with children- the absence of which is so overtly illustrated with the exploited (and underloved) kids in the entertainment industry.

  • Dear Folks:  For more in-depth on what I was just speaking about, please access my site for my June 8th article entitled “The Devil At The Door:  Hollywood Invades America?”  Also I’d recommend Paul Petersen’s essays on his “A Minor Consideration” website at “minorcon.org”.  The Gosselin case is receiving increasing attention; not just as a crass “human interest story”, but for (as I mentioned) the questions of children’s status in our society that affect us all.

  • In my opinion, Jon and Kate Plus 8 should be on hiatus for a year or so while this divorce plays out. Then a more rational decision can be made about whether to continue or not. i strongly believe that Jon is just being a childish brat who wants to take his toys and go home. He had stated on Nightline just two weeks prior that he saw no problem with his children being filmed for the show —- but then when TLC wants to end the agreement, somehow the (not so bright) Jon has an Epiphany about the wellbeing of the children!

Where was his concern about the impact on the children –

When he cheated on his wife?

When he started his ongonig affair with a 22 year old?

When he was all over the world partying and living high?

When he said on national TV that he ‘despised’ his wife. that he loved  his 22year old g/f more than he had ever loved Kate?  When he said that having 8 children had caused him to miss all of his 20s (as a justification for his current behavior)

I don’t think he has a credible leg to stand on in the moral high position here.

Kate may be a harpie and a shrew – but her actions around her children seem at least committed and loving.

One last point – as Jon seeks to take away the only earning potential in the house, how does he plan to pay child support for 8 children?

He is a ridiculous child in my opinion.
