Should Dave Be Fired?
David Letterman admitted recently that he cheated on his wife and had sex with women who worked for him.
This is causing some to call for him to be fired since he was their boss. Here is the link: Link
Should Dave be fired for having sex with his employees?

hahahaha
LOL.
Ummm…that’s not grounds for termination.
for what?
It’s Hollywood. He can fuck whoever he wants and nobody would wince.
That is some outrageous stuff. I dunno, does it affect his job? Why should he be fired for something that is not even about the job? Or is it?
Depends on network policy. Most larger corporations would fire any higher level employee for having sex with underlings.
It’s hollywood. Nothing is cause for any sort of punishment.
I could honestly care less, one way or another. How is it my business who he screws?
Well… like Roman Polanski, he should be treated as anyone else would be in that situation.
Well hes not really all that funny anyway. Let Craig take his place.
haha, i dunno
It must be weird having sex with him.
for not keeping his you know what in his pants?
oh, cause it might have interfered with his job? maybe he did it after hours?
Is there a company policy against fraternization?
Not if it’s part of the contract.
I think the women that had sex with him need an eye exam and perhaps a mental health review, but no, I don’t think firing him is necessary. I say that assuming the sex was consenual, both parties were of legal age, and it wasn’t something listed in their job requirements.
His station doesn’t have any rules regarding consentual sex between employees but has strict ones regarding sexual harrassment. So unless he coerced these women into a relationship he hasn’t done anything against corporate policy. If they opted to use it for favors or to get ahead, then they are just as guilty as he is. I give him credit for announcing this before the press could make a field day and for refusing to name his partner(s).
Yea, I never laugh at his jokes. Plus, sleeping with a bunch of co-workers whom I’m sure he promised job security and perks is a bit…illegal? I don’t get why any of those women didn’t file sexual harassment cases.
ummm…who really gives a shit? Since when did the world revolve around Hollywood? Why do we feel the need to involve ourselves in others affairs? And are we sure David Letterman was telling the truth when he “admitted” to it? Wouldn’t it make more sense that he said only to get more viewers?
more like people should notice that they shouldn’t respect him as much as people used too… even if they were low already.
If Clinton can keep his job, why shouldn’t Letterman. He’ll be punished in the divorice. But the women are just as guilty and should be fired too. I don’t watch him anyway, so I’m impartial.
Was it unprofessional of him? Yes. Should he be fired, when it seems none of the women have complained? No.
It becomes a technical question, that depends on the particulars of the circumstances and the rules they were playing under. But on the face of it, no. Who cares already, somebody had S E X with Dave? Well excuse their eyesight, but other than that, what does anybody care? Does it make him more funny? Less funny? I wouldn’t know, for I never watch the show.
I would say one thing however, I thought he handled himself in a classy way on the air, when he announced the whole thing. So for my money he’s a keeper, unless this all turns out to be creepier that we know at this point.
He’s on CBS, that’s punishment enough.
I don’t see why this is such a big deal. Is there something more to this? Was he having sex in exchange for airtime? Because if he was just having sex with people in his work place…who gives a shit!? People fantasize about their coworkers all the time, so he got all the way? Congrats to him.
If I can’t have sex with my employees, well then show me the door, because the american dream really is dead!
Yes, if it’s against company policy.
why is it such a shock that these big time hosts sleep with employees, i doubt he’s the only one doing it. He’s a cheater, he’s a manwhore, but doesn’t affect his work does it?
No. If nobody’s complaining, then no
@Paul_Partisan - lol i agree
well if he gets fired, he could always run for President of the United States.. You cant get fired for having ‘sexual relations with those women’
I think that his sexual activity should have nothing to do with his job status unless he signed a contract stating other wise.
If it was consensual, then no. Although I personally am disgusted with him, what he does in his own spare time is his own deal. He’s not a huge public figure who is standing for a certain moral issue- if he was a priest, or a public official who promises to be chaste and obide by normal moral codes, or a host of a marriage-therapy show then termination would totally be justified. But, as a late-show talk show host who doesn’t stand for any certain set of moral codes, then whatever.
I am with trun. Although I can’t stand anybody who cheats!
Depends. Is it against corp rules to shack up with other employee’s?
Hah, nah…I wouldn’t say so.
No. I like how he had the balls to admit to it.
no
No, He should have never admitted it. But if he helped these women move on because they slept with him, then he should get a punishment.
N————————–O!!!!! It happens. Dave’s not a crook. He shouldn’t be unfairly penalized.
If he was fired, the world would despair. But he was a jerk. So it’s a yes and a no.
Bob Barker didn’t get fired.
big meh from me
I am sure he has a contract and it depends what the contract says. This type of activity is normally covered in said. And the network is under no mandate to enforce the items in their contract that they do not feel are in their best interest. It is a business. I imagine the biggest decision maker will be the advertisers.
I don’t watch him so am not part of his audience to care. This discussion , in all fairness, would be best among those who do watch it and take offense. He offended himself more than anything especially in his “confession”. I imagine his wifes counsel will have a hey day with that for lack of any remorse , other than being blackmailed.
Depends on company policy. If it’s against the rules, then he should be fired. If it’s killing their ratings, then perhaps he should be taken off the air. Anyway, I think he’s safe.
No. For not being funny, yes. I don’t know, I don’t watch him.
I suppose that depends on what the rules are at the studio.
It’s not appropriate, but I don’t think he should be fired. As long as it isn’t effecting the line of work. I suppose. *shrugs* Not my business, so I don’t really care one way or another.
No, He came clean with it.
Awwww, that’s just wrong! But it’s no reason for him to get fired. Now that I think of it, I never watched his shows…
No. He didn’t rape them!
Pretty stupid article. We didn’t fire a President for having “sexual relations” with an underling, why the hell would CBS fire a cash cow like Letterman?
If they had a problem with it, they should have complained. From what I understand, it’s not against job policy. Two consenting adults, no rules in place to prevent it? Eh, no, should not be fired.
@abilene_piper_lg - Are you kidding me? It definitely is at a LOT of companies–almost all of them. I have never worked anywhere where there wasn’t a rule against fraternizing.
i don’t think he’s the first boss to have sex with an employee. *shrug* but it was kind of stupid to say it on t.v.
@XactiLucius - That is a very good point…Clinton DID get away with it, didn’t he?
Well, they opened their legs willingly. What are they gonna do about that since it wasn’t like, assault or anything?
It certainly was unprofessional and I hope that his wife beats the crap out of him for it. Should he be fired? The most they can really fire him for is being unprofessional. It sucks that he did that, cause it now messes up his reputation.
@yourkbear - well, Clinton was impeached, but he wasn’t thrown out of office. In some way, he did get away with it. I think we let him because he was still a decent president… even if he was an unfaithful slut.
@yourkbear - That’s only from unwelcome sexual advances. Good lord. Since this isn’t a case of rape, or non-consenting sex, who gives a shit, that’s not grounds for termination. Employers need to be held liable for terminating people due to office romance. What two consenting adults do off the clock is their own business, not the company’s. They need to keep their nose out of places it doesn’t belong.
Assault, yes? Consenual? No. that’s not necessary. You can’t fire someone for screwing up their personal lives.
no
@abilene_piper_lg - So what you’re saying is that it’s not JUST cause for termination. Still, a lot of companies beg to differ. I only think he should be fired if he was using job-related perks/threats to coerce the women.
@sparkletone1684 - Right. I’m just saying…the president is supposed to represent Americans. Therefore, if he can get away with it, everyone should get to. lol
@trunthepaige - That’s true.
@yourkbear - And those companies that beg to differ can suck it.
I feel sorry for his wife… that’s rather humiliating.
@Paul_Partisan - I was going to make a comment but yours is frankly so much better…
@yourkbear - well if he’s supposed to represent americans, then he did a darn good job.
@sparkletone1684 - Apparently. At least…the government officials…
No I don’t want to see him fired, I want them to SUE the pants off him and make him pay for abusing his power…….You just don’t dip your pen in the company ink well.
hes not even funny, fire his ass
I guess that depends on how the station feels…if they feel it would “stain their name” or cause an unwanted type of attention, I guess I really couldn’t argue with that.
no. ppl do that all the time. not that i condone it.
yes! fire him.
If it is against company policy, if it hurt his job (although they could give him a warning and a chance to improve), etc.
Why the hell did he admit this anyway?
@Lanateyony - i agree.
xo
well the girls worked under him right?
who said he cheated on his wife?
@abilene_piper_lg - If it’s with someone he works with, it usually is.
That’s not how it works. You can’t sleep wit your boss consentually, then try get him fired. Those people are just scrounging for a promotion.
@truthletters - Then the higher ups need to mind their own fucking business. Having rules like that in place is an infringement of rights.
@abilene_piper_lg - the rules are there to keep things fair. to protect the women from sexual harassment, and to protect everyone from favoritism based on things other than performance at work.
@abilene_piper_lg - are you saying that it is a human right to cheat on your spouse?
@truthletters - If you’re willing to face divorce, separation, or whatever, you’re taking that risk. That said, there’s nothing illegal about it.
@truthletters - BTW, sexual harassment happens to men too. How quickly you forget that, and it’s only harassment if said advances are unwelcome.
In the real world, he would have long ago been sued for sexual harassment. Do you really think all those women consented because he was good looking, or because he was their boss? That’s wrong.
I haven’t watched his show for ages because he’s just gotten mean.
Another example of what goes around comes around….he’s been cheating and now it’s coming to bite him.
It’s still sexual harassment technically I think, so I don’t see why he should be held by a different standard then everyone else. It was unprofessional, but she hasn’t complained that he forced her or anything as far as I know so I don’t think it’s necessary to fire him.
@abilene_piper_lg - You’re right. I do forget. In this case it would be the women, but yes, it can happen to men.
But I’m not necessarily saying that in this case there was sexual harassment involved. I’m simply stating why the rules are there in the first place. It could be involved.
And if you’re married, NO, you do not have the right to cheat on your spouse. It may not be illegal…but it is absolutely not okay.
he’s stupid..he should just quit!
Why would anyone have sex with him???
Eh, it’s the industry, everyone is sleeping with everyone else…
if I WERE FU**IN bitches at my job, i’d be gone in a heartbeat ! we are not even allowed to talk about sex lest we get fired ! i guess sexual harassment only applies to peons.
As long as they were consenting adults and nobody was forced or had fear of being fired if they said no, then I don’t see the problem. And cheating on your wife should never be grounds for removal from your job. That’s totally ridiculous. It just makes you a person of little character.
Let the ratings speak for themselves. If people want to continue to watch David Letterman, then obviously this issue does not bother them enough to make them stop watching. If it does, then the ratings will drop and he will either be replaced or the show will be totally canceled.
I think people are making too big of a deal out of this.
depends on company policy.
yes, because its extortion. that kind of behavior shouldn’t be permitted at any workplace.
NO
He deserves special treatment because he is a public personality and afterall, he was just walking the “Appalachian Trail”.
Holding to moral principles of fidelity to one’s spouse is so restrictive. Not just that, having a boss or underling to have sex with cuts down on the boredom of the job…..
Well, I would say NO, I personally don’t watch the show or like the guy. I heard he is not an employee of CBS but leases air time from them. So he is not really a CBS employee so if he is porking one of the girls well it is up to her to say no. I personally think he’s getting a raw deal. The other think I don’t understand is everbody in the media is making a big deal over this but moronic people like woopie goldenberg want to say that the Roman Polanski should be forgotten about because it happened years ago. Sounds like a double standard to me.
Well, he’s not funny, but apparently the sex was enough to bribe them to keep him on this long.
Maybe
If they consented there is no reson to fire him. He did nothing wrong work wise, he only failed in his marriage.
x.
No.
Its been a boon for ratings. Besides, if he were fired, he’d only be (eventually) rehired by a rival network.
His punishment would be a shame-induced monogamy through the near future.
He should politely leave his job, apologize to his wife, and seek counseling to restore their marriage. Ideally.
Many of us can see a hypocrite a mile away. This does not mean however, that the church or God himself condones this sort of attitude and behaviour. In fact the Bible has a great deal to say about hypocrites.
First of all, note that Jesus brought TRUTH and not hypocrisy. (John 1:17 and 14:6). Jesus did not tolerate the people who had spoiled the Temple and made it into a market (John 2:14-16). The Temple was for the worship of God, not for trading. On another occasion Jesus talked to a Samaritan woman about worship and told her that God wants true worshippers who will worship in truth (John 4:23-24). Clearly hypocrites cut no ice with God!
Secondly, Jesus criticised the Jews for diligently studying the scriptures but refusing to come to Jesus to receive eternal life (John 5:39-40). He went on to say, “but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you.” (v.42). Jesus knows us too, so consider carefully who you are trying to impress. Is it the people in a church or are you living to please God.
Thirdly, consider the Jews who brought a woman who had been caught in the very act of adultery to Jesus (John 8:3-12). They wanted Jesus to say she should be stoned according to Old Testament law. However, Jesus highlighted their own sin and one by one they left. Jesus then declared that He is the light of the world, and whoever follows Him will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. Jesus knew and exposed their sin. He knows all about our sins too, whether open or secret. Hypocrites may fool some people around them but they never fool Jesus.
While there may be hypocrites there will be no hypocrites in heaven. Make sure you confess your sins, and be honest before God.
Its all about the Money.
No, let his wife deal with that.
He was a single man up until recently. He has said that this was “in the past” not in the present. I believe this is now between him and his family. The only reason he had to mention it at all was because of the blackmail attempt and nobody should have to live with that. We have never heard a hint of scandal about this previously, especially from any women that have worked for him on the Late Show.
Dave, you’re fired! Now get up from you chair, I’ll walk you to the door.
No, I think he should keep his job. It takes a brave man to come out and tell his live audience and millions of viewers that he cheated on his wife, and then apologize to her. I’d have been more disappointed in him if he’d kept it a secret and it got out into the press. But that’s still not grounds for firing him. Who he fucks is none of my business.
Why stop at Letterman, I am sure that the other people involved are just as guilty. Let them all be fired if he gets fired. It is only fair because if one gets fired for a few moments of fun, all involved are guilty. Anyways…it is pointless to fire anyone, it should be punishment enough that his wife gets to deal with him in her own way….a woman scorned…
Something I overheard: “He should be fired. It’s just terrible. He’s made me laugh once in 10 years….What. Oh he cheated on his wife with staff. Who gives a rat’s ass.”
No, not fired. But Letterman is a piece of sh1t. Just think about how he talks about Sarah Palin.
this disgusts me, yet doesn’t surprise me.
Wtf? Why would this be a question?
It’s an obvious NO. Or maybe you just wanted to laugh at the people who said yes.. <_< Not gonna lie though… Cause I really looked through your comments to see if anyone did so I can point and laugh at their ignorance. :]
Why does he get such a free pass on this? I feel the worst for his wife…he’s a jerk…all the times he has slammed others for having sex outside of a relationship and here he is one of the worst as well–
No, but he’s a prick for cheating on his wife!
no he shouldnt be fired!
No, because he’s Letterman.
Seriously, do people really give a rats ass about this?
With the actual unemployment rate at about twenty percent, I don’t think we sould fire everyone who has consensual sex with coworkers. That would rase the rate to about sixty percent I would guess.
Yes we should fire him and then rename it ‘The Show’ because uhh you know it’s his show and we’d be firing him and then we should employ an asexual celebate person to host the show because they won’t have sex with anybody!
Only if a sexual harrassment suit is filed or if he went against CBS’s fraternization policy
