Did Myspace Die?
I only check on myspace about once every month or two. It just feels dead over there. Maybe it is just because I don’t spend time over there and it is the issue of you get what you put into something.
But I think I have over 4000 friends over there but whenever I send out a bulletin over there, I don’t get any responses anymore. A few years ago, I would get about 100 responses if the bulletin was any good.
According to compete.com, myspace had over half a billion visits last month. That is compared to over 2 billion visits on facebook last month. But Myspace is still ranked the 15th most visited site on the internet.
So people are still visiting there but you get the feeling that no one wants to admit it.
Did Myspace die?

mine did
I log in just to increase the amount of money I have on OwnYourFriends, though I really don’t know why since I rarely buy anyone anymore.
mine did. i deleted it a few days ago.
lol no it didn’t but it’s not what it use to be.
i think it’s dying.
i still have mine but there’s nothing really going on.
I never had myspace.
I used Nexopia, which has also died.
Ever since I signed up on facebook, I don’t check my myspace very often and do very little on it.
I stopped using it four years ago.
Everyone migrated to facebook.
Though I did like the html tweaking, I learned how to read and write it because of myspace.
I haven’t logged into Myspace in months. I only have about 20 friends over there and don’t really talk to any of them anymore.
I hate facebook. It seems like the shittier a website is, the more people like it. I would rank xanga as #1, myspace as #2, and put facebook in third place.
I am a xanga loyalist. lol.
I think Myspace is more for music artists.
I only tried Myspace for a little while… I decided Xanga and Facebook fit the bill for me, as far as networking/sharing/blogging needs are concerned
it’s been dead for a while, really.
@labellacreativa - Same here.
Myspace is definitely 6 ft. under.
I think it’s dying, and a lot of those hits are spambots.
Good, it’s owned by the company that owns fox news. Fuck em’.
its pushin dasies… i still check mine occasionally but dont actively keep it up.
Yes, in terms of growth and relevance.
what’s myspace?
it died and i deleted my account before rigor mortis set in
I have a MySpace music page that I kind of update occasionally. My personal MySpace just kind of sits there unattended. I only have like 18 friends there.
I hate Facebook and have hated it ever day I’ve had it. I deleted that.
Xanga is, and will always be, my first love.
MySpace died when Facebook allowed anyone to join. That’s also when Facebook lost (what I thought to be) its uniqueness.
I still check my myspace…daily.
@seriously_meredith - Omg I do that too! Glad to know I’m not the only one who does that, ha.
But yes, myspace is in fact dying. At least to me it is. Some people on my friends list are still on constantly.
Its rip….
Well, I always thought it was for the younger generation mostly anyway. But you got hundreds of loyal fans here at Xanga anyway, so you shouldn’t need myspace!
I had an account but I rarely sign in.
I have noticed myspace is kinda dieing but i will always favor it over facebook. Facebook is boring! I like myspace because i can look at how everybody creates their profiles with their own unique style. i like listening to music other people have that i didn’t know about till i found it on their profiles.
mine died in 2007
I transitioned from Xanga to MySpace, from MySpace to Facebook, and now I am back at Xanga, although I still use Facebook frequently.
Xanga is more interesting, Facebook is more useful for actual networking.
That’s essentially what it boils down to.
- John
It’s not a living being, so no.
i log in every once in a while to see if it suddenly revived itself but i don’t use it.
I go on everyday…but because of facebook it’s most geared to the games and most everyone plays the games and sends gifts to everyone else, including the people who don’t play, enticing them to try out the game and get addicted. I know myspace has games but they’re not a main feature. Another thing of facebook games have, is they have a feature where you have to check back every so often (5 minutes, 4 hours, 12 hours, 1 day, etc depending on the game) so that ups their hits as well.
That’s the question I had when Matthew Good, a Canadian msusician and activist, wondered if MySpace “is even relevant anymore”. I keep it to say hi to friends and check out unsigned artists.
I made mine when I was doing a bunch of music stuff with teenagers; now that I’m not I’ve left it to rot. I don’t know anyone who uses it at all.
its hold on slowly but losing its grip. I only check mine when I’m really really bored…I like facebook so much better.
I only used mine for a few weeks. I realized that it was pretty much the dumbest waste of time on the planet . . .
me and all my people still use it…
@CalLie_nicolebaby - I agree
i still have it, i keep it just b/c it’s the only connection to some people i haven’t seen in a long time-but otherwise i only check it once a week now.
Definitely dead. I only have an account there because I have a couple friends that just won’t make the switch to facebook. I log in maybe once a week.
@The_Aftershock_3650 - Ha, exact same thing for me.
Indeed, myspace died, as soon as the facebook came in… What will be next? Some over computer slash internet teen will come up with something brilliant?!
Aside from looking at band pages occasionally, I really don’t spend much time on Myspace. Never saw much point in using it.
If i were desperate to get messages from 17-year-old guys saying, “Hey you’re hott. Let’s chat sometime,” then i would still use myspace. But since i’m not, my personal myspace has pretty much died. None of my friends use it anymore, so the only attention i get on there is from the few random little boys who want to “chat.” I only haven’t deleted it because i feel like maybe there might be a time when i want to use it again, so i may as well leave it there.
I don’t know, I get allot of people on myspace to chat we with all the time. I don’t always get replays to all my posts on myspace. But I don’t get replays to all my posts here either. And that really doesn’t matter to me anyway.and there a few people on myspace that are very good friends. If for no other reason, I will go there just for those few people. Plus I like my pets. I like myspace. Facebook has too much family on it, they don’t need to know what I’m doing all the time, I don’t do much on facebook.
i’ve never used it.
all the girls at my school [and i go to an all-girls school] still talk about it.
but if you ask me, when i browse the internet, all i ever hear about is twitter. :/
nice discussion you got going on here. *thumbsup*
Facebook took over when Myspace became a haven for whiny 12 year olds…
Looks like you didn’t get the memo. I have two copies. Let me give you one.
I never really used it much to begin with, but in the last year? Fahgetaboutit!
Facebook has clearly won the social networking war. Myspace is only good for music and bands, but I’m pretty sure it’s only a matter of time before facebook takes that market, too.
Don’t think so. For over half of my friends, it’s MySpace > Facebook.
Every time I go back though, it is like it’s dead. Nothing “moves”.
15th?! Geeze.
I log in to check music mostly. But that’s only maybe twice or three times a month.
I miss the MySpace era.
Logging onto Facebook feels like walking into a room full of people you know. Sometimes, I’m just not in the mood for everyone all at once. MySpace gave everyone a comfortable amount of space, while still allowing them to network.
MySpace was like a motel hallway, Facebook is like a gigantic orgy coliseum lined with toilets.
For me, pretty much.
yeahh i think it is dying but not yet dead, it will get there. I think people occasionally go log into the site just to see if there is anything new when most likely there isn’t. also the fact they concentrate a lot on the music scene helps get traffic.
facebook killed it
the only thing i use mine for is to keep in touch with certain people that don’t have facebook and to play my music playlist. other than that i never use it, and yeah, i do think it pretty much died in the past couple of months.
I don’t go over there much. I only check in with people there who aren’t on Facebook yet.
you check your myspace once every month?? you’re a loser. who does that anymore??!
I hope so.
RIP (don’t come back)
Yep. I was talking about this with a friend a few days ago. She said she deleted a bunch of people and was just over the whole thing. No one updates anymore. Booo-ring.
Maybe
I only use myspace for music, really. It did help me teach myself about HTML though. Which is the only reason I refuse to delete it, I think my profile is pretty xD.
it did for me about 2 years ago, I just use facebook now..
i believe sites do come and go, as trends do.
Mine’s on life-support, and I’m about to pull the plug.
Yes, I do think it died. I don’t know anyone who goes on Myspace anymore. Last year, it was the only thing anyone used. Now it’s facebook and twitter.
I don’t think MySpace is dead, but it probably will end up dying soon. :p And when they can’t afford to keep it up anymore, it will become nothing more than a vague memory of all those who used to visit it.
Personally, I just think that MySpace has a feel to it that allows people to feel kind of isolated from the other members, even the people on your friends list. So, it’s no surprise that it feels like it’s dead. And that Facebook gets more visits.
I still have mine, but rarely check it. I don’t know if it’s dead, but it’s on life support.
Mine died a premature death. I made it, I don’t even remember why, and never used it. I don’t even remember my password.
I don’t used mine anymore, I rarely have used my Facebook account, its Twitter for me, also blogging websites Xanga and Blogger lead the way for me.
My teenage girls use facebook not myspace.
Mine did.
Mine did, it’s rotting in internet hell… haha.
*Nods* It died
i deleted mine about 4 days ago. the only thing kept me from not deleting it sooner was my family who i had found about 4 months ago on myspace. other than that, it was just plain up boring. I feel like facebook is less complicating when it comes to using it. myspace now just has too much to do that sometimes it gets annoying.
MySpace is simply on its way out. It’s an old site and not innovative. But it doesn’t have the community feel of Xanga. In other words, no positives. I never liked it.
It’s kinda like xanga. Maybe it’s comatose or something.
Or maybe we’re all doing what you do, and that is log one once a month or so just to see if anyone has left a message or something. That’s what I do, and anyone I know from Myspace does the same thing. So few actually use Myspace anymore.
I think Myspace became a landfill of crap. I don’t know… things on Myspace seemed more vulgar and annoying, while Facebook has always had a bit of a wholesome feel about it. Maybe because the younger crowd seemed attracted to Myspace where as families seemed to use FB for keeping in touch. As fun as it was to make Myspace personal with layouts, songs, etc. – I’m relieved that FB doesn’t have all that. I don’t want to hear someone’s playlist everytime I log on to their page, and I don’t want to see something inappropriate as their layout unexpectedly.
If Myspace isn’t dead, it’s dying a slow death. I think the younger crowd is the only thing still providing blood to the site.
MySpace? You mean it’s still around?
As soon as the parents started joining and Tom started sending out constant reminders of how to stay safe, my peers flocked to Facebook. Even with the changes that almost everyone complained about. I only moved because my friends did and I wanted to still know what they were up to. But yeah, Myspace is dying. Although I do have a few friends who hate Facebook so much that they use Myspace daily and I log in every now and then, especially when Facebook is having a slow day.
Myspace is dying, or at least shrinking quite a bit. Just like xanga. Facebook might be going that way too; I’m not sure, yet.
I rarely hear about Myspace in the news, it is mainly Twitter and Facebook now on television programmes, follow us on Twitter, be fans of the show on Facebook etc.
mines dying, I facebook more than myspace.
it also seems like myspace is starting to be geared toward the younger generation while trying to be like facebook.
Yes.
But Xanga died once, well, everywhere but here most likely. It’ll be back in some way, I’m sure.
I thought MySpace died 3 years ago, when I saw that the pre-teen daughter of a friend was spending all her time there with schoolmates, and I was starting to see FaceBook as where the action was, so I only check my MySpace account once every 6 months since then.
I learned more about HTML editing on myspace than anywhere else, but yeah it’s pretty dead anymore. I’m on FB daily now, and it’ll probably die in the next 2 years when something “better” comes out.
since my friends and I don’t go anymore, to me it did. others still use it. they are obviously behind with the times… the again my friends stopped using xanga about 4 years ago, and i’m still here…
dead, deleted mine like 3 years ago. facebook is thee way…….
myspace became an advertizement, a host for band pages or a place for a booty call. You dont find those things as much on FB, they are there, just not as much. I was personally deterred from how many surveys put on mypsace
Dead, and I’m glad.
Myspace died for me a long time ago.
I usually just check it to keep up with my best friends gigs… even then I get him to tell me when they are & such!
myspace is dead.
It’s about Facebook and Twitter. Twitter, I really can’t get into that. Myspace will never die, it’s just people experimenting with other new sites.
Your site should die.
I don’t know and I don’t care.
yep, all that remains is for people to hate myspace for the games…which don’t transfer and then the bands they like….myspace will remain a used condom for band advertising for awhile….but myspace is dead as a vibrant social community.
Mwuah.
Er. I mean. Yes. It did. *solemn face*
Yes it died. I deleted mine a few months ago because I never visited it anymore.
This is what happens when someone purchases something popular that they don’t understand and then try to turn it into a purely profit-making apparatus.
Never had MySpace in the first place.
it’s been dying. nothing about underage kids who try and just flirt and post bulletins saying “text me” or “call me”
xo
Yes. I haven’t checked my myspace in months. I use Facebook.
eh…I only check myspace like every other week
I’ve let my myspace die.
toooooooooooo many “over there”‘s!!
I have a myspace ( i was overly adicted to it) but just check what i have there and put entries in my blog and play yoville. Facebook is ok. I used to have xanga a long time ago before myspace came into the scene but i got rid of it due to computer malfunctions. I go to facebook to play yoville also. I’ve been a recent member to Myyearbook.
I have now deleted all accounts I have ever had with Myspace, did it as a part of a sort of paring down. I closed my Twitter, too. I will probablyu close LiveJournal since I dont’ use it at all, and will keep only my WordPress, Blogspot and Xanga.
I think it’s been dead for some time now. It was the “It” thing for a while and then came along Facebook and Twitter. Before long something else will become the it thing and we’ll saying the same thing about all the current social networking sites.
I mainly use MySpace to post in the forums, which can get interesting from time to time.
@Chris_hybrid13 - MyYearbook is one of the better social networking sites.
I consider it dead.
Nothing lasts forever. Eventually something new will come out, something more organized. So the simplest answer to your question is YES it is dead, its human nature we all get tired of same boring stuff. I believe networking these days is more used for information gathering rather then finding new buddies to chat with. Maybe i am wrong..!
well yes, myspace is like a storefront in a town with a billion storefronts. you won’t get noticed there so just use it to hone your skills at html. but xanga is like a storefront in a quaint little tourist town and it isn’t going to die unless the owners pull the plug.
I think myspace is offically dead, I do still have a myspace but I find myself more on twitter and facebook.
~Alexx
wow i totally hope so….
I check mine once every two days or so, not as often as Facebook or Xanga. I still check mine because I have some friends on there who don’t have Xanga or Facebook, including my girlfriend, but it’s lost it’s touch.
Myspace has been dead for years, old man. NOTHING YOU REMEMBER IS THE SAME!
@labellacreativa - yeah , i learned to read and write html because of myspace too.
yeah myspace is dead, i don’t go on it at all, only because i’m saddened by its death. I think its a better website than facebook. with the layouts, and the music and stuff.
I hate myspace. I check it every long while. I don’t use it. Myspace went out of style a long time ago Dan
Myspace is done for, or at least I hope it is. I never was interested in that stupid website.
I have never done a blog before so Xanga is my first and I totally enjoy it. So I know absolutely nothing about My Space.
didn’t die, just nobody really takes it seriously anymore.
Facebook is definitely better for keeping in contact with people =)
I think myspace has become a waste of everyone’s time. But I do think that the younger generation is still using it. Once you get up to high school, facebook seems like the right social network to be using. It make kids feel older and more sophisticated, at least that’s how I felt. Blogging websites are also becoming more popular like xanga and writerscafe. I don’t know, I got rid of my myspace, at least to the best of my ability, considering my email was invalid. But myspace is silly, it’s not even a profit anymore.
i never use my anymore… i still have it tho.. i would feel weird if i deleted it.. tho i dont know why
probably.
not many people go on it again :[.
Not mine! I’ve got a handful of friends & family that I keep in touch with on a daily basis on myspace. =)
If Myspace is dead with that hit count what does that make Xanga?
mine did. I was going to delete it, but my friend told me to keep it up just because… but I hardly ever use it anymore.
every fad dies eventually.
I deleted myspace. It’s dead. There’s a lot of people with myspace accounts who don’t use them… never or rarely log on. Those people should delete their accounts too. Myspace is a ghost city, basically… huge and empty.
Yes, I think it’s not as popular as it used to be; everyone who had it has ventured over to Facebook. I, too, only check it a couple times a month.
Most of my friends left Myspace for Facebook or Twitter. I don’t know anybody who regularly uses myspace anymore. So i guess it is dying.
It’s still dying. It’s not totally dead. There’s people who still use it from time to time on my friend list but everyone’s pretty much on the Facebook hype right now.
I deleted my MySpace account two years ago, so yeah, it’s pretty much dead. LOL
It became the place for bands to whore for attention, and middle-schoolers to trash talk one another on the school forums.
And the ad’s… X_X
Long live Xanga.
I dont have a myspace
I think Myspace is Dead, but I keep mine alive anyway.
I got one because my family members had one. It died with me before it ever started. I was spoiled with Xanga so I never cared for My Space. Now none of my family messes with it much, it’s all FB. I just never could get them to get a Xanga. I tried, only my wife got one just to check on me I guess but she hasn’t posted in close to a year now. Maybe if I had learned about blogging on My Space first I would feel the way I do about it like I do Xanga, but I learned on Xanga and to me XANGA is blogging. FB is good to keep up with personal friends but there isn’t much like meeting folks on Xanga. REALLY, I’ve met some folks on here I know I would be great and lasting friends with on here if we lived near each other. The distance that separates is a killjoy though
Not quite dead…
Chemo and life-support. We’ll see if pulls through…
I hope myspace is on the way out. I tried that for a while a few years ago, and it was just plain boring.
It’s like IBM, it’s still there, it’s still a giant but it’s not growing like it used too. When you are used to accelerating, 100 mph doesn’t feel like anything when it’s a steady speed.
i think its dumb. xanga has basically died too. ive had mine for 5 years and I love xanga. Xanga basically started most of this stuff and now facebook and twitter just copied myspace. im still using my myspace, Im never making a facebook or twitter
I think its good for musicians to use, my bf is a hiphop artist and he uses it for promotion and has a music player on there so people can listen to his music, so does his friends
I haven’t logged in for several months. It’s more for the young’uns anyway, yeah?
I haven’t been on myspace in at least a year. And I haven’t actively used myspace for 3.
I never had a Myspace account therefore it was never alive from the very start.
Eh, its just hibernating. Maybe part of its alive. I <3 Facebook, its cleaner.
I know that a lot of people have chose Facebook over MySpace becuase it’s easier to acess using cellphone ineternet connection. I, on the other hand, highly prefer MySpace because it loads a lot quicker and runs better on dial-up internet. Unfortunately, MySpace’s tech guys are changing a lot of MySpace making it look more and more like FaceBook. So, I think it depends on your internet connection. I don’t know of anyone who goes out of their way to avoid MySpace, but people don’t spend the same amount of time on MySpace as they do on FaceBook.
