  • President Obama – Yes, We Can

I want to congratulate President Obama and Nancy Pelosi on leading the way to pass an historic bill through the House to give Health Care to those that do not have it.

There were people that didn’t think it was possible.  And there were critics that said it would cost too much and expand the size of government.  But President Obama and Nancy Pelosi were able to push past all the propaganda and lies and pass a health care reform bill.

When we elected President Obama, did you ever think he would reach greatness so soon?

  • Dan your tongue is so firmly planted in your cheek you may never get it loose.

  • He had already achieved greatness! Don’t you know he’s our Messiah??

  • I’m not sure whether this is his crowning achievement, because I am waiting for the Senate vote still, but I did not vote for Obama without reason. I have not been at all disappointed thus far either. I have to admit, I am very unhappy with the abortion concession. For the best, hopefully.

  • Well when you put it that way….

  • Are you being sarcastic? I’m proud, anyway.

  • Dan you are lulzing and we know it.

  • You are waaaaaaaaay over-reacting there, Dan.

We are nowhere near the capacity of hospital room and staff needed to take care of every American.

  • Tee hee. My ass hurts already from his “greatness”.

  • Oh that Pelosi, she just has a heart of gold.

  • Nice sarcasm.

Actually, I thought it would have been sooner.  But that doesn’t make it any better . . .

  • @DirtyAndShaken - “Tee hee. My ass hurts already from his “greatness”. “

With Michelle, I doubt that Barack Obama’s “greatness” has much interest in your ass.

  • I was hoping for something, anyways.

  • @valis10 - Word. I was going to say the same. thing. Hate you for beating me to it.

  • Greatness my ass.

He’s the worst thing that ever happened to this country. And that bitch Nancy Pelosi needs to retire already.

  • I’m surprised the push to the final destruction of the US has been moving as slow as it has been.

  • He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Pize before he even won the election. Of course this must mean he is either a god or a demon.

And everybody knows that gods are white, so he must be a demon.

    /end sarcasm

  • @The44thHour - Your racism– very 19th century.

  • GRR…. yup, that’s all I have to say.

  • sounds like bitterness… I say, if you don’t like Obama and Pelosi, blame the voters and the system… don’t blame the ones who brought up the bill.

  • Yes, propaganda and lies from non-news news sources, right?

  • my colon achieves greatness every morning !!!

  • It still has to pass through the House.

  • @CelestialTeapot - I always did enjoy the oldies…. hahaha

  • @The44thHour - I appreciate your good-naturedness.

  • Oh how terrible. Healthcare reform. Oh noooooo, not in my backyard! I love the broken system and hate change. Waaaaaaaaaa

But yeah pelosi needs to go.

  • some would beg to differ, sir.

  • yup.
but then again, I also have to say, It’s about time!

  • Dan, a lot of you people who were duped into voting for Obama are trying to keep a stiff upper lip.  However, most of America has figured out that Obama is a disaster.  Wait until a few months when things really start to get bad.

  • He reached greatness?  Wow!  When did that happen?

All I have seen is our debt grow, unemployment rise, and poor direction for our future.

  • @MissRobynRenee - GWB was the worst thing to ever happen to this country.

  • @yingforyouryang - Negative. Although he may not have been the “best” president.

Obama is just a mixed, non-American citizen version of Carter, who was quite possibly the worst thing that ever happened to America up until this point. Hopefully we can kick his ass outta here and get a new “Reagan” to turn everything back around.

  • It has only barely passed in the House, has an uphill battle in the Senate, and I do believe it will be a diaster for the United States.

  • Just getting elected on a platform of taking a 180 from the fear, paranoia, human rights abuses and “bomb first, ask questions later” policies of his predecessors got him a nobel.

  • @CelestialTeapot - A play from the “Liberal Playbook” – don’t like what you hear, just blatantly throw out “racist”…….very logical response, it attempts to divert the attention to a horrible label.  Well done, regardless of it being intellectually dishonest.

  • We’re doomed.

  • you’re breakin my balls dan

  • @RdKingClassic03 - And likewise, pointing out your conjured playbook isn’t a “very logical response.”

    It was clear that The44thHour:

    (i) Made a differentiation based on race. (White/Black)
(ii) Cumulated that differentiation into an intentionally marred punchline. (Gods/Demons)

Especially in a political context sensitized by allegations racial insensitivity, (i) and (ii) –> racism.

  • I do not comment much, so I’m always hoping that when I do comment I have something reasonable to say.
Thinking about health care, it’s an importance in everyone’s life.  No one plans on getting sick or needing a doctor and for the one’s lucky enough to scrape by and actually afford it great.  For the one’s who can’t and work their asses of daily, this is great for them.  For the one’s who don’t even flipping try to work, boo.  It’s not fair, but wtf is right?

AFTER watching my Father-in-Law get laid off of work rather unfairly (and too long of a story), my Mother-in-Law fired (fits into the too long of story) from a company they’ve been with for over 30 years, they struggled to keep their house, fighting with unemployment, and so on with struggles, but was able to keep the health insurance my father-in-law was on (because of the rather unfairness of the situation).  They were able to manage to get disability for my father because of his oh so many ailments, but that meant the company canceled their health insurance.  Because of these ailments, they are considered preexisting conditions in the Heath Insurance eyes, and will not pick my father-in-law up to cover him.
So after mention all this, I’m in favor of every one being able to have health insurance, cause it’s not f*cking right for someone who’s worked his ass off for over 30 years and be treated like shit.

For everyone who seems to be against the the plan, I’ve only heard about their complaints because they don’t think it’s very fair that lazy people get to get insurance while everyone has to pay for it.  But when you put into consideration what our families been going through.  It sounds pretty damn fair.

That’s just one girl’s opinion though.

  • i, myself, didn’t vote for him.

  • Ask that question again in five years.  Mother Teresa achieved greatness in the ghettos of Calcutta.  Hitler achieved greatness by making the trains runs on schedule in Germany.

  • OH YEAH! I’m off to buy my copy of the little red book just to keep in line with Komrade Hussein now!

  • There’s so much ridiculous sarcasm from Americans.  He’s your president whether you like it or not, support him, you selfish assholes.

  • @TheEmeraldPixie - The trains were always on schedule in Germany.  I believe you meant Mussolini achieved greatness by making the trains run on time in Italy.

  • Sarcasm doesn’t help 30 million people who are uninsured and who are practically invisible in society today. My insurance rate went up 100% last year and I saw a doctor once in the past 5 years. I can respect people who at least try to solve a problem. Those who want to pretend that there isn’t a problem and who want to live in denial, do not warrant my respect…

  • Still has to pass the senate….and then, there’s 2010…not to mention 2012….and I find it amazing that people continue to add (or subtract) the number of uninsured on any manner of whim.  Keep in mind that there are upwards of 20 million illegals in this country, and few if any are insured.  Glad to know that the House just guaranteed them full coverage, when my wife and I have been trying to gain her citizenship and benefits of it the legal, rght way.  This news makes me wish we’d not spent nearly $1000 and four years, wading through seemingly endless paperwork…cross the border illegally, gain medical coverage.  Thanks House.  I’ll be sure to forward my special thanks to you a year from now….

  • I am very disappointed that he is trying to find alternatives to what the Right has been up to the last 8 years.  Everything was working so perfectly and here is is trying to change things just because he can.  Why can’t we remember the nirvana we were in during the Bush years?  The Right’s policies on everything were working flawlessly and now here he comes to gum up the works. Change = way overrated.

  • Greatness?  Because he got a bill through the House of Reps with a five vote margin?

  • @Leonidas - no one is denying the problem exists. and the Republicans have been working just as hard on coming up with FEASIBLE solutions but because they are the minority they get ignored both in Congress and by the media. do your research. you’ll find we’re NOT ignoring the problem we just don’t like this solution in particular because it’s a waste and epic FAIL.

I don’t think there’s anything to celebrate here. We have a president that is ignoring the American people in order to push his agenda and when anyone dares to do real investigative work on him or his cronies he tries to get them discredited (ahem, Fox).

Bush wasn’t much better but two wrongs don’t make a right.

  • @haloed - was that your attitude about GWB? if not drop the hypocrisy. thanks.

  • @JadedJanissary - I stand corrected.  Thank you.

  • No link? So this is made up?

  • @PreciousOnyx - Uh people did support GWB even though he was a million times worse than Obama.  At least, the very least, Obama can speak properly and actually cares about his citizens.  He was less deserving of support, but he still got it.  I’ve never seen so many Americans now bash Obama because he’s done little in the, HEY, short amount of time he’s been president.

Thanks for the reply to my comment that wasn’t to you.

  • @haloed - no, i was asking about YOU in particular. Did you support GWB? Because if not then you have no right to diss those who do not support Obama’s policies. And frankly I think you have it backward- Obama’s the worse of the two in my book. GWB wasn’t the best but he didn’t attack the media if it dared to practice actual reporting against him. Obama can’t take criticism and it makes him look pathetic. Bush was willing to work with Democrats but I don’t see Obama truly extending his hand except to nab a few RINOS who were never worthy of the title Republican in the first place.

  • @PreciousOnyx - I’m Canadian, and from my perspective, all Bush did was take things from bad, to worse.  I preferred Clinton over him, by a long shot, any day.  But you know, you go ahead and tell me what I have a right to do/say and whatever.  Not like there’s free speech or the ability to have an opinion or anything.

And Obama is the worse of the two -in your book- which means about as much as me saying Bush is worse.  Don’t know what you’re trying to say here, but your opinion isn’t better than mine (nor more correct) and I still stand by the fact that if you’re American, support your president.  If you don’t like him?  Vote for someone else next year.

  • @LSP1 - I think you mean it has to pass it through the senate. Nancy Pelosi is the speaker of the house… so if she passed it then it is already passed by the house.

  • Definitely NOT. Honestly, I don’t think anyone did.  And now I soooooo hope this works.  People are so critical.  And many people want him to fail, even at their own peril.

  • @haloed - Exactly what I was thinking. Thank you.

  • @givemecoke - Yes, I meant Senate. Thank you.

  • @LSP1 - You’re Welcome

  • It is greatness that the house can pass a bill that the American people do not want and the American government cannot afford.

  • @PreciousOnyx - I’ve read the Republican bill. The House bill because a Republican Senate bill does not exist. The bill was endorsed by the league of Catholic Bishops, the AMA and the AARP. Three groups that have enormous interests tied into Health Care and financial stakes. The bill does not do enough to constrain costs I agree with that criticism. But at the same time because I have seen no other viable solution offered by any group in opposition to cover the millions without healthcare and the millions who are one illness away from losing everything they have spent their lives building through medical bankruptcy…this bill is as good as it will get. Show me a viable alternative and I will back it. Show me another way of getting millions your neighbors and mine health insurance I’ll support it…

  • Health Insurance is a privilege, not an inalienable right.  Also, a lot of problems of the health care system can be solved by eliminating medical lawsuits, many of them frivolous malpractice suits that our corrupt justice system seems to reward.

  • wow, amazed at these comments.  Like, I don’t think Obama is all that great… but that’s because he hasn’t lived up to all his election promises; his work on healthcare reform isn’t that terrible!  He’s certainly not ‘the worst thing that has ever happened to the US’.  I’m not sure who is, but maybe his predecessor or perhaps Reagan.*  At least this guy understands diplomacy.

    *(or David Hasselhoff…)

  • “…achieve greatness?” He IS greatness. Just ask all of his lemming-like followers.

  • the greatest thing obama ever did was to sell a package of dreams to the american people. like the pastor who promises a windfall of money if you only give him your best “love offering”, obama is a great salesman. but then again so are the cavemen for geiko insurance and the psycho girl for progressive. in the end, it’s just anothe infomercial.

  • Bailouts also lead to greatness.

  • Getting ready to move… out of the US. The constitution is effectively gone.

  • @haloed - don’t worry, we will.

  • The bill only just passed the House which means just about nothing.  And right after it passed the fighting started again about the reconciliation process and the Senate bill.

Save your sarcasm for when the final bill fails or passes.

  • haters gonna hate. This country is fucked up in many ways, i didn’t expect obama to do much when i voted him. I just expected him to do a better job than McCain and i think he has. His foreign policy is going great imo. This healthcare thing, i appreciate it because i can use it, its a scary thing not having health insurance and not being able to pay for it. Even scarier when you have it and have paid for it and then are denied. This isn’t a fix for the problem with healthcare, that problem is really with the pharmaceutical companies, and fixing that would be challenging capitalism even more than he’s doing so already. Doing the best with what he’s got..he’s got 3 more years left…still waiting…

  • @TheEmeraldPixie - The trains NEVER run on schedule in Germany. I should know.

  • @JadedJanissary - I’m sorry, but they’re not

  • I am so glad he saved out country.
We would be lost without him,
People would be dying on the street,
And there would be no one to stimulate the economy.

  • i’m all for it. i think Obama is WAY better for America than Bush was. it takes time to fix all the republican fuck-ups, ya know?

  • @haloed - I remember hearing people say about Bush “he’s our president, you need to support him whatever.”

  • And dont forget Nancy Pelosi,
The greatest woman to ever live.

  • @PimpMobille - LOL I wanted to ask her if she’s 14 years old, because that sounds just like what Hollywood has put in her mouth haha.

  • @haloed - were you saying that when Bush was president, and people were buying bumper stickers saying ‘He’s not my president’? because, the majority of Americans were more disrespectful of Bush(and it was more acceptable–because Hollywood condoned it and made it ‘fashionable’) than they have been of Obama, by a looong shot. it’s amazing what people will do, when it’s made ‘cool’ to do it, right? ;)

and, just as an FYI, I didn’t support(or insult) Bush, nor do I support(or insult) Obama.

  • Really, I don’t know. He was just definitely the better choice. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to vote…I was home sick with a terrible flu last year =[

  • @fivepts - That is a very lemming-like response.

  • What I loved about this one is how pissed off some got. And the only reason they assume you are being uber sarcastic. Is that what you said . . . well they know praising Oama and Pelosi sounds totally ridiculous.

  • Sarcasm noted.

But frankly yeah, I think it’s pretty impressive he’s gotten this far with health care reform. It’s a far cry from what I think it ideal (single-payer, please), but it’s also a considerable improvement over what exists, and if a version manages to pass the Senate, I think it is going to help a lot of people. If Obama and Congress can manage that in spite of all of the lies and fearmongering.. then yeah, very impressive.

  • @trunthepaige - Or, it could be the “greatness” line.. and that we know Dan. Nahhhh…

  • @chaospet - No it exactly what I said. you know praising those two sound absurd

  • @chaospet - You do know that the house bill is about to die in the senate?

  • @haloed - Support policies we don’t want just because our President wants them… um, what?  That’s not how it’s supposed to work on this side of the border.  There’s a piece of paper – an old one – that says we get to choose what we support or don’t support, regardless of who is President.

It’s a shame that people imply that those that oppose Obama are doing it just because it’s Obama.  I don’t want government-run healthcare, regardless of whether it’s Obama or Reagan or any other President in office.  If I don’t support this bill, why would I sit here like a lemming and just say, “Gosh, he’s my President, I will fall in line with everything he wants?”  It isn’t one man that makes this country great – it’s The People.

There were plenty of policies GWB supported that I didn’t want – and you didn’t see me on the front line supporting them, either.

Sarcasm?  Sure, we’re good at it.  So what.

  • Hey I got a question. Is there anyone who lives or has lived in a country with universal health care? Anyone from Canada or Sweden or the UK? I mean I lived in South Korea for a year and there is universal health care as well. I didn’t pay anymore than $20 for a doctors visit or even no more than $10 to get meds if I needed them. Seriously, it was pretty fucking sweet.

  • @trunthepaige - Yes, and it also has the line I mentioned, which combined with our familiarity with Dan, is the clear indication of sarcasm.

  • @Bodhiseeker - Sounds pretty horrible to me. I much prefer paying over a thousand dollars a year for health care, and still having to pay considerable sums of money out of pocket if I ever actually have to go to the doctor.

  • Lol….well hopefully his greatness will rise up to more greatness..(yeah *cough* right*cough*)

  • @chaospet - I have some friends that are BO worshipers/supporters. I just listen to them for my material. Pretty comical stuff, actually.

  • Greatness? Are you joking? First of all, are abortions (you know this is going to eventually get worked back into the bill) and handcuffs your idea of healthcare? I believe in incentives, not handouts. This is just another step for the government to have full control of our lives. Where will it stop? “A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.” -Thomas Jefferson

  • @MissRobynRenee - I can’t believe you actually think Obama is not a citizen.

  • I’m not sure if necessarily he’s reached greatness, but I’m just glad the bill passed the House. I’m hoping it will pass the Senate, too. :) But, we’ll see. Personally, I’m surprised it passed the House.

  • First of all Dan your an idiot. A general idiot. It still has to go through the Senate. Its not a done deal moron. 2nd, Your the biggest idiot on the planet because Obama is going to kill off medicare for the SENIORS. would you like me to kill your grandparents with a knife instead? 3rd your stupid for acting like this is amazing. Taxes will go up and put us into millions of more dollars in debt in a hard economy. I liked your previous posts, but by george you make this blog sound no more intelligent than Mancouch

  • Still waiting for him to do something great. Still waiting for him to do something that is good for the country. Still waiting for change I can believe in.

  • I am so happy this bill passed. I am old enough to know that a lot of people who opposed this also opposed social security and medicare which the democrats also passed.  Those on SS and Medicare sure don’t want to stop receiving either.

  • He’s achieved greatness?

  • There is no greatness at this point. I think they forgot we have a constitution!

Is there constitutional basis for requiring people to have health insurance? It’s ok for a state to require automobile insurance because driving isn’t a right, it is a privilege. Someone can choose not to drive. But how does someone choose not to live? Does the government have a constitutional right to force someone to buy health insurance? Even worse, throw them in jail when they don’t pay the fine? Does the constitution even allow for the Federal government to force us to buy something? I don’t even think that the commerce clause can be stretched to allow that. Even if this bill makes it through the Senate, the Supreme Court process will take forever.

  • @The44thHour - I like your comment very much!

  • 10/10 would be trolled again.

  • @The44thHour - don’t be silly – demons are red.

  • By that standard, Obama’s Godhead will be assured when the economy collapses under the weight of impossible debt.  There won’t be much “free” healthcare when the dollar itself becomes worthless.

  • Yes, and I think really that everyone expected it as well — however, if he couldn’t have, no need to blame considering what shape our country is in since Bush and it would take a very long time, you would think, to fix it.

  • I think the best part about all this is, the republicans seem to be purely anti-Obama because he’s not McCain, or because he’s the Devil, and democrats are butthurt because they’re starting to realise that Barack Obama may NOT be Jesus’ second coming, and that, they are slowly starting to discover, he is a human being like everyone else.

Besides, he already achieved greatness when he said, “He’s a jackass.”

  • “greatness,” huh.  We are sooooooooo up that creek without a paddle in a chickenwire canoe!   Bye.  Gotta go throw up now.
