Turning 38 Years Old
Can I take a rare moment and complain? I am turning 38 in two days. So I will turn 38 on Thanksgiving Day.
Now I have never been big on birthday celebrations but I must admit that I always feel like I get stiffed on my birthday. I was raised poor so we didn’t get much on our birthdays in fact a few years I didn’t get anything. That never really bothered me but I feel like having a birthday near a major holiday causes some of us to get stiffed.
My birthday is always around Thanksgiving Day. So since the time I was growing up, we always celebrated my birthday in conjunction with the holiday. This probably sounds petty but everyone would gather together to celebrate the holiday and then sometime near the end they would suddenly bring out the birthday cake and sing Happy Birthday. It always felt like my birthday was tacked on to the end of the holiday celebration.
I am sure others have the same problem in fact a few of you have a birthday around Christmas.
I think because of this disappointment that I have always sort of downplayed my birthday. But for some reason today it is making me a little crabby.
Does your family make a big deal about your birthday?

you oold.
Happy birthday turkey. We won’t downplay it =P
I understand. My birthday is a week away from christmas. I hate when people do the birthday christmas presents.
well it’s just my mom and i, so yes birthdays are a huge deal for us.
my birthday is july 6th, and since it’s around the 4th no one is around to celebrate it with me, besides my mom. it’s okay. i’ve had a few friends over before..not many.
happy early birthday
&no my parents never bought me a birthday present they just gave me money, but I’m not complainingg
Yes. We make a big deal out of everyone’s birthdays in my family.
Happy birthday
At least you can drink.
For 3 years in a row my birthday (in 16 days) has been canceled. I don’t have a lot of expectations for celebrating my birthday. It’s no big deal.
Also, being a December birthday, my gifts were often combined with Christmas gifts. Now that I’m older I don’t care but as a kid I felt robbed. I was spoiled.
my birthday is 2 days before halloween.
my godmother/cousins birthday is ON halloween.
my dad’s birthday is new years day (he was almost the new years baby, got beat by a few minutes!)
and my grandpa’s birthday is the day after valentines day.
I also have a friend who’s birthday sometimes falls on thanksgiving.
Wow, I know a lot of people who are shafted.
HBD~
My birthday is December 9th, so it’s usually tacked onto holiday parties like yours. Whatever, you don’t need a party when you’re so old!
Yeah, it’s august 6th (nothing special in sight) so it gets celebrated every year. I think you should move to Canada because then you wouldn’t have this problem!
The same thing happens for my boyfriend. His is on Saturday, so his family will have the cake and cards for about twenty minutes and move on. It doesn’t seem to bother him much, but I know it’d probably bother me at least a little. Hopefully I’ll be able to get him out somewhere on his birthday so he has more of a celebration than usual.
well at least you always have some kind of celebration on your birthday, hey?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, early…lol. So, yep. You just came first, before Thanksgiving.
I have a friend who’s birthday is actually on Christmas day. How much would that blow!
Happy Birthday! And yeah, the birthday/holiday thing sucks. My sister is Nov 29, my Mom Dec 19, Dad Jan 11 and I’m Jan 22, which…believe it or not…is still close enough to Christmas for people to say, “gee, we’d love to go out and celebrate with you but we are still broke from Christmas.” Holiday.Have a great birthday and holiday.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAN!!! I hope you have a great, wonderful, happy, fun day!
My birthday is around a holiday, too. It can be a bummer. What I try to do is get everyone to celebrate the whole week! Teehee!
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t! Or pick a day other than the holiday to do the birthday fun!!! I only had 2 official birthday parties as a kid…we were poor, too, and their were 8 of us kids. I got a party at 6 years old, and at 16…with a few friends. Nothing like the parties kids get today!!!!
Don’t be crabby! Enjoy this week and know that on your birthday a ton of Xangans are thinking about you and are thankful you are here! I am! Happy Thanksgiving, too! Hugs, C.
First:
HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!! =D
Second:
No. The only thing I ever had that was relatively CLOSE to a party was a cake and some presents when I was four, and I don’t even REMEMBER the party. I only know about it because I saw some pictures in a photo album my grandma has. I was like, “When was this!?”
they make a good-sized deal about it. this year probably took the cake–but that was all my own doing LOL. my mom gives me the most personal presents that make me happiest, while my mother-in-law spoils me the most.
anyway, Happy early Birthday, Dan!
My birthday is always a big deal but only because I had my daughter on the same day so in turn, it isn’t about ME at all, so never mind ha!
My birthday is on the 8th December and my mum’s is on the 9th December.
It is always a problem what to do when going out for meals. With my Dad’s birthday on the 13th January my parents will go out for a meal together after Christmas.
I have not really like having my birthday in December, it is a huge problem when it comes to presents that I draw one list so I don’t know what I am getting for my birthday and Christmas from my list.
My sister birthday is on 31st October, I think she likes having a special birthday date but does not like being refered by her family as a little wi***
I had this HUGE crush (still sort of do) on this guy I knew; his name was Matt, and I celebrated his 38th birthday with him. He was leading a really good life. Single father with a two year old son, owned property and buildings -he was a landlord- he loved architecture and has a degree in it (which I will have as well) and was GOOD LOOKING! I wouldn’t have put him over under 27 or over 30. Unfortunately life put me between a rock and a hard spot and I had to move from the area. Something totally would have happened between us. =( We were good pals. I made him dinner often, babysat his son, renovated apartments with him for extra money… I would have married that guy in a heart beat….
this is the third time the age 38 has come up this week with me… odd.
Not really…we never really do anything big, but that’s more because I don’t want to do anything. For all of us it’s usually a family dinner and then cake/presents. No big deal. When I was a kid we would do the big parties and such but then I was at camp for my birthday a few years in a row and since then it’s been nothing too crazy.
Happy Birfday, Dan.
Please.. at my age I just want my birthday to pass by unnoticed.
my birthday’s near valentines day, so i always end up having it the weekend of, and people are like, sorry, im out with my BOYFRIEND or whatnot, lol.
but my dad has the same problem with thanksgiving, except in canada, lol.
he doesn’t mind too much though, seeing as he’s not much of a people person… :]
Dear Dan,
Rejoice that you have a family. My dad died when I was 21, leaving me to care for my brother and sister and become the conservator of my mother’s “estate” since she was a virtual vegetable in a nursing home as a result of a bilateral stroke a few years earlier.
When I turned 38 I had just helped to bury my best friend, who died from complications following a fall from a picker at his work.
My birthday is May 1st, also a holiday, (a real big one in the Pagan religion, but we were Christians.) My sister was born on New Year’s Eve. We rarely drank champagne nor stayed up till midnight when I was a kid, so we celebrated Mary Jo’s birthday instead. My brother was born far from a holiday. I remember all birthdays as being wonderful times, with cake, ice cream and lots of presents.
While the peeps were alive, we had some great birthdays.
Happy Happy birthday to you Dan, and many happy returns of the day. Hope your crabbiness turns to sunshine, and you find a reason to celebrate 38 years on the planet., and Thanksgiving to boot!

When I was a kid it was always a big deal. I’m 22 now, and my mom still bakes me a cake and sends me a couple of presents =)
happy early bday. my family used to make a big deal of it until i turned 22. anyway, i have a confession: i forget my bday and wedding anniversary sometimes. how unchicklike is that?
It’s not a super huge deal in my family, either, no matter what time of year your birthday is. I think that’s because *most* of us (five of us kids) have birthdays within two weeks of one another.
Happy early birthday.
Mine’s in the beginning of October and I get the short end of the stick every time. My birthday present this year? A piercing – $40. My brother’s birthday present? New suspension for his car (that he doesn’t even drive in the winter. Because he has three cars. All given to him by my parents.)
Yeah. -.-
Not generally. I have the same issue as you. Mine is this Saturday (28th). I’d just be happy if my husband didn’t go hunting. I do think he’s only going in the morning so at least there’s that. *sigh*
My family has never made a big deal about my birthday. I will be 49 in January and never in all those years did I have a party on my birthday. You can’t miss what you never had so I am okay with it. I think that is the reason why when my daughter was born I always made sure that she had a birthday party every year.
Happy Thanksgiving Birthday.
Happy early birthday (In case I forget). My birthday was never a huge deal. I’m a summer baby so it was hard to get people together for parties. I only had a party on like the major years. It’s whatever.
If it makes you feel better, my Dad doesn’t remember mine (he is consistently off by a year, a month, and a day…so my actual b-day 3-22-1986 has always been 4-21-1985 in his book…no idea why.
Mom knows mine, but has consistently ignored it since I was 15.
———————————————————————————————–
@ShimmerBodyCream - YEAH! I will remember too! Well-put. ^_^
yeah. i have three siblings whose birthdays are all within three weeks of mine… i’ve felt totally forgotten many years.
now i’m older and it’s kind of nice to not be noticed…
sorry you’re grumpy
My grandma’s birthday was on Christmas Day; consider yourself lucky. And don’t think of the cake and stuff as being tacked on at the end; think of it as the big climax to the day.
I didn’t like Thanksgiving when I was young. Since I would have gotten presents (from cousins, aunts, uncles etc) just because I was present (in CT we lived in GA) and it was my Birthday I think Thanks Giving would have been an great birthday to have. Christmas….that would suck major balls.
Now any birthday sucks. I am older than you…38 was ok, 39 ok as well….my next one is a real bad one.
My husband’s birthday is on the 4th of July. He gets overly excited every year because he “gets fireworks on his birthday!!!”. (Seriously, that’s what he tells me!) but…hey, he enjoys it. Me, personally.I like my own birthday celebration so I would feel the way you do….
Happy Early Birthday.
Dan, I’m in the same boat as you. My birthday is always close to Thanksgiving (today), and it is always celebrated on Thanksgiving Day since that’s when all the family is here…. I guess it’s the most convenient to do it that way
We never make any fuss over birthdays. In fact, my mother made me cry on my most recent birthday. Good family traditions.
38? BULLSHIT. Either that, or you seriously look a LOT older than you are – which is never a good thing.
Awww..
Happy early birthday anyway
Aw, Happy Early Birthday…
And you deserve to be celebrated just as much as anybody else who has a birthday away from holidays or any other major event. I hope you have an even better one this year.
I can relate to this. I was born on Halloween and no one ever came to my party. Because the thing was to go out either trick-or-treating or to go to a school carnival (money raiser). But my brother born 3 days before Christmas the parental unit made sure that he had an extra special birthday because they were afraid he would feel stiffed.
Funny enough, my parents always made a bigger deal about my sister’s birthday because it was around Christmas/New Year’s than they did about mine (in April). Once, I had my birthday on Easter, and I felt like I got a little more recognition then than I had any other year.
Happy birthday!
My birthday lands on Thanksgiving every four years and is always on the week of Thanksgiving. Yes, my family has tacked it to the end of the holiday meal and all and also I don’t really like my b-day celebrated much so it is a bonus for me.
Happy birthday to you!! I hope you get out of your crabbiness about it.
my in-laws always take me out to eat on my birthday. I try to make b-days special for my kids.
Cheer up its gonna be your birthday soon!!
Birthday hugs to you
Hope you have a happy birthday! Even though you’re not feeling so happy right now.
My oldest has her birthday a couple weeks after Christmas and I do my best to disassociate it from Christmas. My husband’s mother upsets me because she always wants to celebrate a late Christmas in January with us and she never gives my daughter a birthday present. She has yet to even attend one of her birthday parties.
No, my family has always ignored my birthday for the most part, especially in recent years. It depresses me.
But happy birthday to you!
My sister’s birthday is always around Thanksgiving too, and she feels the same way. But she usually gets to go out to eat and a steak dinner, so I don’t know why she’s complaining . . .
Why did I always imagine you being much older?
Birthdays remind me of how I procrastinated and wasted opportunities and became one year older
happy bday.
and nah, i trained my family not to make a deal out of it. also it helps i have a niece and nephew with birthdays near mine, my nephew is born the day after. so they get all the goods.
I used to make my birthday a special day but, now everyone so busy no one cares. Sometime I even have to buy my own birthday cake. =( It’s just not the same anymore.
Happy Birthday Dan!
Personally I don’t really care if anyone notices my birthday or not.
My son’s birthday is Thursday as well. Since his birthday is on Thanksgiving this year, we are celebrating tomorrow.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!! ::HUG::
I know how you feel…my Bday is July 3rd, so for years we celebrated on the 4th so there wouldnt be so much do to & because my parents worked. I hate that as you get older people dont feel the need to celebrate. I dont mean it in a way of presents & stuff but someone’s birthday is a celebration of their genesis. It’s not something to be taken lightly. Age is just a number to me, so I’m not “embarrassed” at how my candles look like a blow torch or anything. The alternative could be that you’re not here at all.
nope only when i was younger :X
happy early birthday!
I loathe birthdays. Abslutely loathe them.
Happy birthday. And no one makes a big deal out of mine either.
my moms bday is the 26th too!!!!!
It’s only natural when you don’t feel special to feel bad.
Im 38 yrs old myself,my birthday was in october. But ever since i was 10 ,my parents stopped doing birthday parties and such. It used to bother me growing up,but since Im older I really don’t care. lol
My birthday isn’t near a holiday but they still don’t make a deal out of it anyways. I haven’t had a celebration in my honor since I was 14.
My mom’s birthday is the 16th of december and mine is the 20ths. I have forever been a victim of the this is your birthday/christmas present…which I understand because people are usually strapped for cash around the holidays and have lots of people to get gifts for…but I always felt a little cheated.
Now that I’m older though it doesn’t bother me too much, I also know though at least 10 people who share birthdays on or near mine, so knowing that other people go through the same thing makes me feel a little better?
Birthdays are usually acknowledged with cake and ice cream and the birthday song.
Happy birthday Dan!
My family does make a big deal of my birthday!
happy birthday!
surprisingly enough, i never get stiffed, and my birthday is the 19th of december. and i tell people every year, if you would prefer to get me just one gift, that’s fine. still certain people get me two, my family members and my boyfriend mostly.
As long as they don’t start sticking the candles in the turkey.
I lucked out. April 2 is a good birthday. Every once in a great while it falls near Easter, but that’s never really been an issue for me.
I was born on mother’s day and I have a brother born on Chrismas. That says it all.
I don’t really celebrate Thanksgiving and birthday parties are simply but fun affairs.
Well. My birthday is on the first of July, so nobody is ever in town to celebrate. But my father has always been really careful about our birthdays, because his birthday is close to Christmas so as a kid his family would give him one present for both. And it pissed him off when his class ring was all he got for both Christmas and his birthday.
My birthday is in the end of August and nobody makes a big deal out of it. Usually I like that but for my next birthday I think I’d really like to do something.
Birthdays should be special…we never had a party with kids, always cake and ice cream with the family.
Happy Birthday!
My cousin’s birthday is on Christmas, she actually celebrates her birthday on her half birthday. So she’d have a party with friends, cake, presents and on Christmas we just know she’s older, but we wait to celebrate.
My Little One turns 5 on Saturday but we’ve always had a separate party just for her no matter how close it is to Thanksgiving. The holiday does help the whole family get together though since we are military and that gives us the time off to visit back home.
No. I grew up poor as well. We celebrated our B-days but gifts were rare.
Wow, you’re younger than I assumed. I guess having a balding icon can do that.
Happy birthday!!!!!!!
My parents always had something for me at home..since all my family lives in Michigan. it never really was a big deal as my parents didn’t raise me to be self- absorbed.
I don’t like birthdays. Being reminded the passage of time makes me want to jump off a cliff.
My family doesn’t do anything special for my birthday
My bday is on Canada’s national holiday so I get slighted for vacay by most of my relatives. But bless my mom she always remembers to get a cake. The only thing I really want on that day.
No…I’m a big boy now.
seems like we just did this the other day!
Happy Birthday, Theo. I like older men.
Happy early birthday! My birthday is TOMORROW!!
My family doesn’t make too a big of a deal of my birthday. We’re just going out to dinner
Wow, you’re only turning 38? I always pictured you being old…at least upper 50′s. Maybe because you remind me of my dad.
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday! My birthday is on November 30th so we always celebrate my birthday on Thanksgiving too. This year, I’m having Thanksgiving at MY house….so I’m throwing my own birthday party too. I don’t hate it, though, I actually love it. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because everyone is together, but there’s no stress over presents and money, etc. It’s just family spending time together. Since that is my favorite thing…I adore my family and would rather hang out with them than anyone else…I love celebrating on Thanksgiving. My mom makes a HUGE deal of birthdays though so I never feel slighted. I think she makes a bigger deal for me and my sister (December 20th) because she feels guilty we’re so close to a holiday.
No comma usage? boy, you must’ve been annoyed!
Yeah, they kinda make a big deal out of it. I got lucky though and avoided being born on Valentine’s Day by 5 days.
My brother has an idea of what you go through though. His birthday falls 4 days before Halloween, so unless his birthday falls on a weekend that year, the celebration gets tacked on after trick-or-treating is over.
When I was young we;ve always celebrated my birthday early. Like, two to three weeks early. Hahaha That’s just how we roll.
Happy “Early” 38th Birthday.
My family doesn’t make a big deal out of my birthday..
bummer . . . I guess that means i get stiffed too lol
It all depends on the holiday.
My friend’s birthday is on Halloween, so he always gets Halloween gear…terrible, huh?
My brother’s birthday is the same day as my parents’ anniversary, so we always celebrate his birthday the next day instead of on the same day.
My birthday is December 22. Enough said lol.
Dan ur old! But I myself really don’t make a big deal of my birthday. I don’t care really it’s another da to me. I am just blessed that am alive on that day!
~Alexx
we make a big deal out of the big birthdays I guess. Otherwise I prefer them downplayed, go out to eat. Hang out with friends, that’s about it.
I know several people who have birthdays close to Christmas and they hate it. They say everyone forgets. Though I’m a person who loves birthdays because they’re a celebration of life, so I’ll make sure they feel happy that day. Luckily mine is in March (first day of spring!) so it’s easier to have it noticed.
And happy early birthday to you! =]
For some reason I thought you were a lot older b/c you posted a picture of someone else up. I believe it was Hemingway (I think). 38 is quite young IMO since I used to hang out with men 10-15 yrs older than I am. Now they’re only up to 12 years older LOL.
Happy early birthday!
Sorry Dan. I turn 43 about a week later. Birthdays have always sucked for me. Can’t say as I can give ya much sympathy here. I’m in the same boat.
my birthday was sunday, and there wasn’t a big deal made of it.
Happy Birthday, Dan!
Screw Thanksgiving! DAN’S BIRTHDAY FTW!!!
Happy birthday! I’ve always had modest birthdays even though it’s not near or on a holiday, but I’m not much for parties.
Happy birthday, Dan!
ugh my birthday is right in between christmas and new years. talk about overlooked. people give me joint presents constantly. one year my boyfriend asked me if i wanted a christmas present OR a birthday present.
Happy`Birthday Dan
You deserve this!
Happy B DAY! O yeah and I hope your turkey day goes well also!
Happy birthday.
My birthday is on March 24th, so on some years, my birthday falls around Easter. Whenever I turned twenty, my birthday was the day after Easter, so my family forgot about it.
Last birthday was my worst though. I turned 21, and your 21st birthday is supposed to be fun! I mean, it’s the age whenever drinking becomes legal and you’re supposed to celebrate. I ended up “celebrating”, alright…by getting drunk alone and passing out on the couch!
my birthday is always quiet. but this is my choice. my parents always want me to have a lot of guests, parties and so one but i prefer not to celebrate my birthday. i have it in winter but i do not like this part of a year.. well, just for Christmas. Lol!
My congrats with your birthday! 38 is a wonderful age! All the best for you!
be thankful u are having another bday!!!
Now that I’m older I usually always have a big party with my friends. I go out to eat with my family on the actual day of my birthday. When I was younger I had normal birthday parties. ♥
My birthday falls right after New Years, so yeah, mine is right after the holiday season ends. Sometimes people will give me a big Christmas gift and say that its for Christmas and my b-day. when people do that I have to admit I am a little disapointed. It makes me feel like I’m not that important. Birthdays are a big event in my family. Its the day we tell be the birthdayer “we’re so happy you came into this world and are apart of our lives.” so, yeah, I don’t blame you for being upset about that this year.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Have a wonderful day!!
Happy early birthday!
i love your photo
Yep – December 7th in my case and visiting family would bring me a token birthday present and want me to open it at the dinner table. Once I got past the age of birthday parties, my mom decided it was a good day for us to go Christmas shopping for everyone else and have lunch.
My son was stuck with Dec 30 and that was tougher – being Christmas break we had to choose to have his birthday party either the week before week or a week after. No one came on the 30th, even if they WERE out of school
My birthday is 4 days before christmas. My uncle (who married into my family) his is the day BEFORE christmas, and he’d NEVER had a birthday of any kind until he married my aunt.
So when my aunt found out that my mom was having a “christmas baby” – she told her to make sure that I got a birthday – with a party of some kind and separate birthday presents. And she’d send “half birthday” presents to both myself and my sister, just to be certain we felt remembered.
So I’ve always had birthday celebrations. Not always on my birthday, if it’s not convenient for the rest of my family, and not usually more than a dinner and cake and few gifts since I turned 16, but there’s still something that’s *mine* in the middle of the holiday madness, thanks to my aunt.
Guess you should be thankful they’re even celebrating your birthday at all, huh?
Tough break, man….but at least you always get a good meal that day!
I always felt there wasn’t enough celebration. I was never allowed to have any parties or anything and the few that I did have sucked, probably because I didn’t know how to have them since I never had them before. I’m turning 20 on January 11th. Holy crap. And it is close to Christmas so it is kind of a big pain to get me two gifts. But we don’t really celebrate Christmas or any other holiday anymore, which is unfortunate, but whatever. I have always wanted a big birthday party though.
And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you tomorrow!
Nope… I grew up poor too.
really? youre 38 and youre complaining and no one cares about your birthday?
hm… yeah I guess I would complain too but birthdays to me are a weird concept to even begin with. What are we celebrating anyways? the fact that we made it through 9 months of sitting in our moms tummys eating second hand food? in that case we should celebrate every time we eat left overs. I’m sorry if I’m sounding rude at the moment- I do not mean to , but i know a lot of people will read this and think i’m a heartless person, I’m not, I do feel sorry for you and I genuinely wish you the happiest birthday!!!!
but what about the woman who had to push out of her area and carry around an extra 20 pounds for that long? Wake up with morning sickness and even after that sit around and tend to our ever need for how many years? …I don’t know I think birthdays should be about our moms…
But Happy birthday bud!!!! =)
my family goes out to eat and sees a movie on birthdays. it’s not quite as fun anymore as it used to be though.
my brother was born on New Years Day so sometimes people would give him a Christmas/birthday present. I have a friend whose birthday is December 26 and they do the same to her sometimes. my neighbors have a kid who was born Christmas Day; they tried combining them, and they tried celebrating them a week apart, and they tried celebrating his half-birthday instead. not sure what they do currently, if anything.
I was born on March 18, which has always been messed up by Spring Break (no one could come to b-day parties ’cause they were on vacation), so although I like being born almost on St. Patrick’s Day I have sort of learned that b-days don’t matter so much outside of those little family things we do.
Thanksgiving is not as big of a family thing these last couple years as it used to be, just because of certain circumstances we can’t control.
happy birthday tomorrow.
Happy Birthday!!!
No, my family doesn’t.
OoOh! Here’s a suggestion for your birthday! But some candles on your turkey…oh yeah, festivex2.
Aww..I love that kitty picture!
I don’t really care for the whole birthday celebration. I’m just glad to be alive an extra year.
happy, happy happy birthday!!!
38? is that all. i figured you would be atleast 62.
Happy Birthday. For yesterday. I think.
My last five birthdays happened at boarding school. Not a lot there for my family to make a big deal of. I didn’t mind.
Happy Birthday!
I know what you mean. My Bday is Jan. 3rd and everyone is always so broke from Xmas =(
Happy birthday to you. As my dad always says when it comes to getting older, it beats the alternative!
@normality_dreamer - Maybe it’s a sign? :O
First of all, happy birfday! Erm, early birfday. xD May you have many, many, many more!
I hate my birthday. Not only is it a reminder of the day I had to tragically be born, but it’s also the day I was born. I’m grateful for life, yeah yeah. I hate getting presents and I turn into some sort of Scrooge around my birthdays. I don’t let my family celebrate it or buy me presents. Not even this year, my 15th birthday came up and it was a big thing. At least it’s supposed to be in cultural terms. It’s the Latin-American equivalent of Sweet 16. I asked for NOTHING and got a cake and some food. Well, like a feast. Ugh. I just hate when people spend their money on me. D: Even if it was out of heart. : Same thing for any other holiday. I’d rather just give presents- not receive them.
My birthday is a week before Christmas, so everyone decides this is an excellent and justifiable reason to give me joint presents. How come if your birthday’s in June you get 2 sets of presents but I only get one? It’s unfair >=|
Ah well, I don’t really mind tbh…
My birthday is on Thanksgiving every four years.
My family doesn’t make a huge deal out of my birthday, but they do make sure to give me lots of attention and stuff. So do my friends.
My birthday is close to mother’s day. Not christmas or thanksgiving but still in my book (especially since i had a kid) a big holiday. I think i can name like 2 birthdays that even got noticed beyond the birthday cake as you said “tacked onto the end of the holiday” It did not help that my sister’s bday was less then 3 weeks later which somehow my folks always seemed to find ways to finance her bday and fathers day in the same month. SO to answer your question yes we get jipped but it doesn’t stop us from getting older. to bad eh lol!
Just gonna leave a comment saying my birthday is Christmas Day
I like it cause nobody forgets it. It sucks cause I can’t usually do anything with anyone, cause they all have family things to attend to, but last year, my friend Jill took me out to see Yes Man in theaters, and then we wandered the streets till 2am.
This year I am turning 21. I’m so glad I have 17 years to catch up to Dan… assuming you just stop aging at 38. ;D
We don’t celebrate birthdays. We just have a cake, get together, and have presents… okay, so maybe we do.
aww! (^_^) i love the cute kitty picture.and the cupcake just looks deelish!
happy belated, i hope you had a better birthday this year!
i was (and am being) raised relatively poor so birthday’s aren’t really extravagant but we USUALLY do something special.
my parents don’t really care too much for me, however. for my birthday, this past july 15th, my mom gave me money to go to the buffet with my boyfriend and him and i hung out for a bit. he had to go to work around three p.m., so i went to my best friend’s house, and her family’s like my family.and she got me a few pairs of g-strings that were too big xD some cookies and cream ice cream, a cookie, and a card with a personal message from her. i was in heaven<3 it doesn’t really take much to please me, however, i’m real big on holidays and i’ve always wanted to have a big party with the works! i mean, i used to have sleepovers when i was younger and we’d have some cake and go somewhere like chuck e. cheese or an amusement park with the family (but then again, this wasn’t every year-i don’t really know how to explain birthdays at my house)
and my parents didn’t like their birthday’s being celebrated
my sister’s birthday was the 21st but she always gets a separate little celebration
xD i’m still waiting for the belated birthday present from my mom: driving lessons
anyway, i’m thankful every year to just be alive and when my birthday is celebrated, i feel so thankful that people love me enough to celebrate my life
My birthday is always right around the first day of school… :/
my birthday is the day before new years eve. everyone combines the christmas/new years/my birthday together. its nothing new but still annoying.
My daughter was 29 on Thanksgiving Day. She’s never complained about her BD being so close to a holiday. One of my grand-daughters was born Dec. 26th. We always do a family party for her and 2 other grand-daughters in late Oct. or early Nov. The other two were born in Nov.
