Meeting People from the Internet
I was just reading a post by Shamrocklover and she was talking about meeting two people that she had met on xanga.
She mentioned wanting to meet more people from xanga.I have now met 52 people from xanga.
How many people have you met that you first met on the Internet?
Comments (149)
None. baha.
Sadly, no one. Not many xangans live in MN =[
That’s a lot. I’ve met like.. 10.
Two.
I plan on making it more very soon.
hmmm. let me see. about 10 or 12 so far.
none.
8 if my count is right from other (networking) sites.
Currently, none…but I am hopping on a bus tomorrow to spend a few days with one…hopefully she’s not a serial killer
None. I have friends that I knew before finding them on here, but I’ve never met someone online and then later met them in person.
1 or 2 – I met one at a cross country meet, it was strange b/c we had so many mutual friends and had talked for months yet he seemed scared of me once he found out I wasn’t joking about running the guys’ race after mine
– this was also at a xc meet
I almost met another one, but he though I was occupied with my friend, I wish he thought differently b/c he’s a hottie and my friend clearly isn’t
So far only one Xangan.
None! And I plan on keeping it that way! You people are crazy! Hell I’m crazy. It would have to be a public place with a friend and then maybe I might think on it a while.
I met my last husband on the internet. the first time we were to meet he had to cancel the date. he let me know this in a note attached to 2 dozen roses and a teddy bear. I thought he was the nicest man alive. Until a year after we were married and he stole most of my belongings to sell them for pills. Oh well. Another one bites the dust.
I’ve met one, about a week and some change ago… that was scary.
A few. Needed a few restraining orders, too.
does the xanga team count?
Met one and dated her briefly…….it was fun……….I would meet more but i would never date one again. There are just too many social constraints and it is really difficult to truly get to know them. Its difficult too because people can hide a lot about themselves. I prefer face to face 1st meetings over coffee.
I am up to 80 Xangans….you being one of ‘em!
@MomGoneMadd - Yup.
around ten. but i mostly seen them at shows. (:
xo
7 Xangans, thus far. there will be more. O.o
I haven’t ever met anyone off the internet…
ONe and I don’t regret it–though it was a chance and it was pretty scary for me as I am not one to talk to people are even hang out so meeting someone I never met afore..very scary but it was worth every moment.
6.
~V
One and we are still friends.
none.
i live in the middle of no where…so no
Five.
My boyfriend, two guys from my college (because I needed a ride from the airport to the campus. Haha.), and another chick from my school, and a girl I met (online) in the same place I met my bf. :3
2
2, both from Xanga.
At least 40 Xangans this past year. Shoot, I just slept in the same bed with one of them haha
None…
Letsee…eight, I think. I’ve spoken with, over the phone and corresponded with (letters) a few more, too. It’s really just another neat dimension to life, really — it doesn’t limit your socializing to your specific area (which, may…lets face it…suck).
None! But I hope I can meet a few of the more interesting people I’ve met; some of them are fascinating and brilliant.
None. 53, shit thats heaps. Kudos.
I’ve 3 xangas and probably 50-60 non xanga related internet people ( sponsored team)
I didn’t meet one person from the internet ever, but I would love to meet lots of Xangans I’m now friends with.
I can think of 7 off the top of my head, plus 3 of my sister’s online friends. Most from Xanga, one from a forum for a teen political action group I used to be in.
It’s so much fun! A tad awkward at first, but after a little bit it’s like you’re old friends, which you are, of course.
Then funniest time was when I met someone without telling her first. I didn’t know her online really well, and was actually going to a speech and debate tournament to meet a different Xangan and they were both there.
I watched one of her debate rounds and then went up and asked if she knew who I was. (I knew her last name and what she looked like, but she only knew my first name). She said she didn’t, and I said, “I’m Bebster from online!” And she was confused for half a second, and then we just started talking. I see her every few months now.
She said that before we met she thought I was a 40-year old weirdo or something. I think I was 16 at the time.
And I get to spend a whole day with some good Xangan friends in a few weeks! Yay!
I met… 1. (:
No! TWO!
One and it was a friend’s friend so I’m not sure that really counts.
@Roadlesstaken - Scandalous! haha
lol i actually met a guy off myspace..a couple years back. NOt a good idea.
I’d say I’ve met about 20-25 or so.
@TheBigShowAtUD - I think we’d have to run across each other on accident in places more interesting than Ohio. New York, while I’m making fun of Dave for cheering on the Mets and hoping for LeBron?
@SimplyNita - you think that’s scandalous, weight until I upload the video from the other night. Drunk Xangans are entertaining to watch ^_^
None, I’m way too paranoid for that.
I think I’m at 2. More if you count their friends who I met through them (on the internet) before meeting them irl through the same two.
One.
I haven’t met anyone that I met first online. 52 is a ton, I’m not sure how you’ve kept count.
@Roadlesstaken - You seem to be on the Xanga Meetup Tour.
@another_rebel_without_a_cause - NY is a good place to meet people. the Mets will still be bad, and the Knicks aren’t getting LeBron. i’ll join you in that.
@TheRiverIsEverywhere - what can I say? It’s fun stuff.
In high school my friends and I found some goofy guy on one of those hot or not style sites, invited him over, and I ended up semi-dating him.
One of my roommates my sophomore year came from xanga.
A xangan I followed went to my college, and we ran into each other on campus and recognized one another. Still good friends.
Two xangans met online, fell in love, and moved to my city, where I helped them move their couch in because they didn’t know anyone here. Still friends.
Not on xanga, some actor on myspace… worst date ever. Also a gorgeous model from myspace… much better date.
In reality I’ve met hundreds of people from the internet because that’s how I find photographers and I’ve gone to model/photog meet and greets, but I don’t think that’s really the same thing.
Hmm–off Xanga perhaps 6 or 7.
Zero and I intend to keep it that way.
0
Two!
0, never will.
El ziltcho.
@Peridot21 - We should meet up one day.
ummmmm two…. three…. not many.
0. u win.
I got a ride from someone I met on myspace like….a bajillion times. Well more like 3 or 4. Dumb. That’s why I don’t do it often and I carry dat glock on me too. So it’s all good.
None. I’m not sure I’d be opposed to the idea, but I’m not sure I’d be comfortable with it either. How do I know you people aren’t all mass murderers?!
One. Best Date of 2005.
None so far.
Two. One of them is my husband. We wrote for the same e-zine. Nobody from Xanga, but I’d like to get together wwith my fave xanga girlfriends though.
@TheModernBunny - you and I should kidnap Carmen and go on a buffet raid all over the world. Right after I win the lottery!
Zero.
Oh gosh. A least a hundred. A dozen or so from Xanga, but mostly from an old forum site I used to frequent and MySpace.
I’ve met two through one of my old fandoms, though one really doesn’t count. Apparently we went to high school together and I didn’t match her name with her face until I saw her. Then I felt stupid.
sadly, no….
I have much a net friends, but i haven’t met they…
3 or 4. ….
…
none
@maniac_rose - Oh damn…
I’ve met people i’ve known from online but never met someone from xanga yet.
hmm… #1 was from xanga (she flew in from AL)… #2 I met through her ex who I met in a chatroom (who I have not met in person) – she drove from IL to PA to see me… #3 I met through myspace – who I then dated, he lives about 10 min away from me… umm… I think that’s it… 3 people
About 15. All have been just as wonderful, or even more wonderful, than I expected. Including you, Dan! Four of them I’ve had as guests in my home.
zero
Several, I would say around 15.
@dlmcniel - @gabrielpeter - Both of you sound like you didn’t have very good experiences, you should elaborate! I’m kind of curious. It’s okay if you don’t want to though.
None.
None yet
Quite a few, actually. I’d say at least 15 or so. All dear friends now. There’s others I’d love to meet if our paths crossed. And that’s just Xanga (and MDD back in the day), not other organizations through the years.
I’ve lost count. I would guess over 200. In November, for example, I finally met this guy, Charlie. We’ve commented back and forth on history forums, Facebook, and a few different message boards. He was in Gettysburg for the Rememberance Day parade, saw me and one of my models selling calendars, and stopped over. Back in the early 90′s the people from the Compuserver CB Simulator applications had an annual get together. I know over 100 people showed up at those each year.
One of the photography/modelling forums I’m on features local gatherings a few times a year. Maybe 300.
none
Just one but it wasn’t from here. I would love to meet some Xangans
one,, i dont really like to leave mexico,,, i have an open invitation to any one who wants a taste of mexico, but most people pay attention to woof blitzer, and other news media, and are scared i guess,, hahahahaha.
and its not like you actually have to have a passport to enter and leave mexico,,, me, nor none of mine have one…
Only one and he’s one of my bestfriends!:D
I always find people on Xanga to be more awesome, so I hope one day I’ll meet people from here!:)
WOW 52?! 80?!
One.. and he was great too. I hope he’s doing well
I’ve met four or five Xangans.
I’ve also gone to some geocaching meet-ups. Those are some of the funniest people to meet. I get a kick out of them.
maybe about 30..majority have been assholes but i found a greatone now <3
none!
i wish i was nearer to everyone!
Zero.
only one so far… but it was my ex bf’s cousin tho.
ugh, so jealous! i wish i had the time/resources to meet someone
2.
And I didn’t arrange it.
I just bumped into them.
None from xanga. About 12 of us who met on the internet (secret society) got together in Las Vegas in 2000 and it was a blast. None of us had met previously (except for mates) I put videos of our banquet on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KFnUzkNmes
We had drunk a few cocktails…
i’ve met 1 person off the internet.. 3 years ago and we’re still together lol kinda lame.. meeting some1 off myspace.. but hell lol i dont regret it at all!!!
one. wasn’t as bad as I thought.
actually, it was quite amusing.
2 only.
@gabrielpeter - oh dear. lmaoo
and I have met….none on xanga. though I really do want to meet some of my readers…andddd
id say abt three from FB.
ended up dating one. the internet is an awesome place. meeting people when you otherwise prob would never meet them.
Lol.
Only one
@runformymoney - No it was awesome, just sort of awkward at first. that’s all.
I met my boyfriend 5 years ago during an intense game of counterstrike.
I haven’t met anyone on xanga…
But I have met one person that I found online, and it’s my boyfriend…thank God for the internet.
One and I’ll never do it again…
BigShowAtUd (as shown in his current profile picture) and TheBlackSpiderman
1
none… but I do want to! someone come visit Cape Cod!
well actually no, that’s a lie. i havent met anyone from xanga, but i met my fiance through myspace…so he’s one.
:p
I lost count after 60 last year.
I’ve met five people in real life that I met first on the Internet. One was from Xanga, almost five years ago.
Facebook yes. xanga no, never had but not because I didn’t want to, just haven’t had the opportunity…
No Xangans. But in my um…*ahem* semi-wilder days, I met about 11 guys online. I also met my ex-boyfriend online. After all those failures of friendship and frolic, I sort of decided not to do that anymore. It really doesn’t work out for me as well as it has for other people.
None.
Some people like to meet others don’t. I know some in real life. Btw, love your boycott TheTheologiansCafe link.
none! i’d like to though, i think it would be cool!
You are one of my 10 or so interweb meetings! We should do it again. I promise not to get so drunk next time.
I have met three. First person turned out to be a real weirdo, second person was my first love known him for almost 2 years online before we met
… and the third one i wasn’t planning on meeting at all, we were at the same shop at a mall and i reconised him, and he reconised me… he just said hi,and introduced himself. Coincidences lol. Ironically i met them all on Myspace…. haha
I dont plan on meeting any online people ever again, after the first person i met online wow… you never know what your going to get when meet people online but i guess that goes for any stranger you meet. My ex was the exception.
@NikBv - I know you want to meet me.
@ShimmerBodyCream - Give me your address and I can make that happen. Or… make something happen, anyway.
@NikBv - No, you’ll order pizzas to my house. Luckily I have a PO box.
@ShimmerBodyCream - No good. I’m not sure a pizza box will fit into a PO box.
@NikBv - pizza on a bagel will
@ShimmerBodyCream - That’s a good thought. Poppy seed or sesame seed?
@NikBv - You don’t use poppy seed bagels for pizza bites you sick freak.
Just a few…
@ShimmerBodyCream - Ah. You subscribed to me. Obviously my witty bagel banter has done its job.
@NikBv - I noticed I hadn’t. Dan said we were going to have babies. This is my attempt to impregnate you.
@ShimmerBodyCream - And a bold attempt at that. But I’m not so easily wooed. And I think you missed the right hole.
0.
Well, I just met my boyfriend of 2.5 years for the first time. The only other person I’ve met from teh webz is McScarry.
@Rob_of_the_Sky - we should… for lunch at Krystals!
@Peridot21 - Sounds good. I haven’t eaten at Krystal since I ate a sack-full in one setting a couple of years ago.
I’ve never met any and I wouldn’t want to meet one. I write here to blog, and I find it odd to meet people on the internet. I like my friends in real life, and I feel like internet friends would be second-rate friends. You’ve never meet or hung out, and people can act really different when chatting on AIM than when you actually hang out with them.
Plus I just find the whole thing a little creepy. Maybe because I’m a younger woman and I watched so many videos about online predators as a child through the school, but I would never feel safe meeting up with someone. I would wonder, even if they seemed normal, why someone would be so desperate as to meet up and befriend someone they met online. I would wonder if they didn’t have any friends in real life.
People on the internet aren’t really “real” to me unless I know them previously – otherwise, they’re just a face behind the screen. I act differently online and express my opinions openly more often because I don’t really mind offending internet strangers. Similarly, I don’t care if someone gets angry at me on the internet, because that person means nothing personally to me. Which leaves me to wonder how other people would act in real life, if I act different, too.
I know that’s Xanga-politically-incorrect, but it’s how I feel. Who knows, maybe I’m missing out on something, but I really don’t feel that way at the time.
i still have yet to meet anyone online, although i do fantasize about it…. sometimes.. lol
but its probably spur of the moment type stuff. hopefully it won’t be someone annoying or overly quiet for my first experience *cross fingersSsss*
i dont even really know anyone on xanga.
Two.
Thirteen people so far…sounds unlucky, eh?
I’ve met two people from the internet, but none from xanga. However, soon I might meet a friend from xanga AND the internet.
I haven’t met anyone from here but I met someone that I met on myspace. We dated for a little less than six months.
@hollowhopes -
You aren’t missing out on anything, don’t worry! I highly doubt I will ever do it again. the only reason I did it the first time was because we’d been talking for a year and web-cam-ing for about eight months. It was still awkward at first… lol.
Zero and it will be probably zero next year as well.
Zéro. Mais je parle sur le téléphone avec une fille que j’ai rencontrée sur Youtube.
(I don’t know why I’m talking in French – I am bored.)
I haven’t met up with any xangans after meeting them here but did meet my husband and a number of others through a medical support group to which I belong.
None from Xanga, the only ones I would consider are from IL and I’m in Georgia now (when I’m in the states) so that makes it fairly difficult.
I’ve only met one person IN person that I’ve shared comments with on the internet… except for local friends via Facebook.
