Sponsored Ads on Private Page
I am seeing several pulses that are from people that are upset about xanga putting sponsored ads on the private page.
On the one hand, you have the fact that xanga needs to make money. On the other hand, you have all the traffic being driven to the ish sites (ad sites) and I believe xanga is the only site that puts ads in the private inbox. Plus you have the fact that xanga sells premium for $25 and lifetime for $100 so people can remove the ads. Plus the sponsored ads and the ish sites knock your posts down off the front and top faster which tends to reduce the number of people that actually go to your post.
Here are a few pulses of people complaining: Pulse1 Pulse2
Do you think xanga should put sponsored ads in the universal inbox?

Why not?
ehh I don’t even notice the ads lol
John is just trying to make some beaucoup money mang.
damn. second.
I personally find it annoying.
For non-premium users, I think that it’s fine….but part of the reason that I even BOTHER to get premium is to avoid stupid ads like this.
Maybe include it as a premium feature to choose not to display them?
Meh, I figure if I’m not interested I won’t read. Simple as that.
It’s only slightly annoying. If I actually bought premium it’d be an issue for me.
No. Put them on the front page or somewhere else but not on the private page. Not all people can afford a hundred dollars for premium–lucky that someone gifted me with premium. There should be another way to have the ads–just not on peoples PRIVATE page. Anywhoos- maybe I am wrong in thinking that, but that is my view unless someone can tell me-show me that there is something better.
Premium isn’t $100, lifetime premium is. I think premium is 15-25 a year.
And, I’m okay with them putting ads on the private inbox. I’m sure it gets more hits than anything else. So long as premium users don’t have to see it I’m fine with it.
no. i don’t want to see that movie. that girl strikes me a semi-creepy. not her fault, BUT STILL.
@QueenOfOreos - Premium isn’t $100. It’s $25 I believe. It’s $100 for Lifetime premium.
I think you can get premium for only $25 a year. I believe the lifetime premium is what costs $100. That being said, the ads don’t really bother me except for that flashing one I saw on someone page that made my eyes go all funny.
i’ve been able to condition myself to ignore ads… so i barely notice them.
@MagisterTom - LOL you beat me by a minute.
meh, im not a fan of it.
we should just turn xanga into a softcore porn site.
@MagisterTom - It is still premium–just with another word before it.@tsh44 - again–it is still premium just lifetime before it. It just means that you get it for as long as you keep the site up. People cannot afford that. And again it is still premium. Just with a little difference. 25-is only for a month and even then some can’t afford that much. (I know I can’t at the moment–I have more important things to use my money for.)
To be honest, it doesn’t bother me. I usually go straight to the “Feedback” and “Subs” tabs.
it’s annoying
Personally I don’t mind it. If I don’t want to see it I’ll just scroll pass it.
@snapeful - oh you would want that, wouldn’t you? =P
i think its annoying only because of the placement.
@MagisterTom - Oh. well okie, guess I have been reading that all wrong. lol. Doesn’t change much of what I said though. *shrug*
Oh, I thought it was because I am subbed to the Lovely Bones site.
@TheBigShowAtUD - It’s a good movie, you might like it.
@Roadlesstaken - ;) asianish? sounds good to me. i’d run it, haha.
I’m annoyed to see them – isn’t the point of premium to eliminate ads and such?
Hell, it’d be almost – ALMOST – acceptable if they at least put ads in the inbox that were tailored to my posts or such, but I don’t care about some new movie.
I don’t see it as that bad a thing. I mean, I want Xanga to stay around, and I want Xanga to make money, y’know?
I would rather see ads then have Xanga drive all the traffic to the ish sites.
It’s more annoying than herpes. Not that I would know…
@TheBigShowAtUD - Because I say so, isn’t that enough?
I’d rather have ads in my inbox than have to pay to continue to use Xanga when I’ve already been here for free for 5+ years.
I’m pretty sure I didn’t even notice. Which, on my desktop I have firefix/Adblockerthing. But I guess I’m so used to accustomed to seeing them on my laptop I hardly notice.
@Slutburger_with_Cheese - Canadian eh?
I’m fine with the ads.
I am not fine with them neglcting their real asset – their users. No users, no ads, no money. Really.
That fucking movie sucked elephant testicles. The fact that I have to look at something that reminds me of that piece of shit movie pisses me off.
They’re on the old subscription page now too - kind of annoying.
I got Premium because I didn’t want ANY ads. That includes in my inbox or my subscription page, whatever.
I’m paying Xanga to get rid of the fucking ads on my page.
There are ads there? I have never seen any.
I don’t mind the fact that they need money, but I thought they have enough of that with putting ads for other things on the side of our blogs. Fo example, the one on the left that sponsors a site on BBW romance.
People complaining about ads on a free site really need to get a life. People who are paying for premium and still seeing ads do have a gripe.
Wait, there’s ads on the private page? I haven’t seen. Thank you ad blocker!
And Xanga can do whatever it pleases with its site. If it pisses off enough people and they care enough, they’ll try to fix it… I hope.
Okay, so I have Premium. How do I get rid of the ads in my UI? :-/
Not unless I say so, dammit!!
@snapeful - heh, nice. Everyone loves soft core porn.
Its doesn’t bother me. I’m just glad its not always there.
Mildly annoying, but I’m sure I’ll learn to ignore them just like I do any other ad anywhere else soon enough. Glad to see it’s in a colored box now, so it stands out a bit.
I think it is fucking retarded Dan. The Ads should only be on the Ish sites.
It’s not an ad. It’s a sponsored post from an ish site.
NO! I am paying them to NOT have ads in my inbox. I was wondering today why that was there. wtf.
@whitetrashpoet - I heard they fucked it up anyway, that the movie is nothing like the book, so I don’t care about it either :/
Yes, because it will make them money and hence help them to stay in business.
That is one of the things Xanga does that does not bother me at all. Kill the ishs and they can feed me a few ads.
doesn’t bug me although they’re there and I have premium.
If that is how they stay alive then I am all for it.
The sponsored ads are there even if you have Premium. I’ve got it and I still see them.
I don’t mind it… for now
I admit that I don’t really care one way or the other.
What are these sponsored ads that you speak of?
As long as the ads arent huge and obnoxious.
if it wasnt in the same spot all evening it wouldnt bother me. its just messing up my click-flow that im used to.
but gosh the lovely bones was an amazing novel, and movie
I understand it appearing when I’m looking through everything, but when those ads come up in my feedback or my subs, it’s a disappointment.
As per usual, I am happy with this community and my providers. They’ve housed me and my thoughts for nearly 6 years, the second most amount of patience anyone or anything has ever had with me.
The most amount of course comes from my mother.
It irritated me seeing it because I wanted to click something and make it go away, but it’s just an annoying spot on my page I try and ignore.
It really is sorta irritating…
doesn’t bother me…but good question.
Is it really something to get your panties in a twist? no….
people need something to complain about.
i dont like the fact that they do. but you’re right. they gotta make money somehow.
Seriously? Are people too fucking stupid to just ignore the ads?
Honestly I don’t care one way or the other. If Xanga thinks it can be more profitable for them, I say I have no problem with it. If they don’t see a profit you can bet they will stop after a bit. If they don’t go the route to make a profit, why are they in business?
I honestly don’t really care. I understand that Xanga needs to pay the bills, and it’s not like they’re forcing me to go watch a movie.
it’s pretty annoying. there’s enough ads everywhere else on xanga.
i’m so sick of seeing ads for The Lovely Bones that i refuse to ever watch it, out of spite.
Ehh I don’t really care
All my adds are blocked. So, adds!?, what adds?????
There is a trade to be made between Xanga and the free user: an exchange of ads for a blog. This is a fair exchange until the ads detract from the attractive quality of the blog, forcing the blogger to make a decision: pay for membership to remove the ads, or go blog somewhere else.
The ads on my blog don’t seem very intrusive to me, and since Xanga does not do a lot of promoting of individual sites to entice me into purchasing a membership, I’m inclined to stick with the current arrangement; I get a place I like to blog, and Xanga gets a place to stick ads. We’re helping each other, yes?
Wouldn’t life be easier if we just ignored the things we didn’t like? I don’t think it’s a huge deal. I’m not letting it ruin my life..
Xanga owns the network so ads can be place there.
Also you see ads on nearly everywhere. What aboout Facebook do you have ads on your page.
i just noticed it and i find it annoying, but im sure as soon as i get used to it i wont care.
It’s just another thing in the UI that I look over. It doesn’t bother me.
If it keeps Xanga going I don’t really care, it isn’t hurting me. I do wish that the ish sites wouldn’t dominate the front page so much though.
Yes, why not.
Its not really OUR site. Its Xanga’s. When you get onto a site like this, its inevitable that they will run a muck with ads, and that if they aren’t at first it is going to happen. :p
While its inconvenient that doesn’t mean Xanga shouldn’t be doing it. I would just ignore it.
idk. I’d prefer to not see them but xanga doesn’t listen to people so it doesn’t matter.
the main problem I have is them not driving the traffic to the OP’s site instead of reposting the submitted article. it kills creds and possible subscribers.
