  • Underaged Drinking at College

I was reading an article that indicated more colleges are notifying parents when a student is caught drinking underaged.

For example, at Virginia Tech, school officials will notify parents if a beer is found in a dorm room.

At first I thought it was a violation of the privacy of the students sense they were adults.  But according to the article, Congress passed a law in the 1990s that “changed student privacy laws to lower barriers to parental notification in cases involving students under 21.”  This was done to prevent underaged drinking.  Here is the link:  Link

Do you think a college should notify parents if a student is found with a beer?

  • 5 Year Old Breaks Push-Up Record

A five-year-old boy has broken the air press-up record.

He was able to do 20 of the press-ups.  The press-ups are done without your feet touching the floor.  The earlier record was 12.  Here is the link:  Link

I doubt any of us can do the press-ups without our feet touching the ground.  So lets try push-ups.

How many push-ups do you think you can do?

  • No Credit Card Until You are 21

A law was passed that went into effect last Monday that banned kids under 21 years old from getting a credit card without a co-signer.  Here is the link:  Link

It is my understanding that 80% of those under the age of 21 do not pay their credit card on time causing them to face huge penalties.

Do you think kids under 21 should be required to have a co-signer to get a credit card?

  • Jr. High Matchmaking

School officials at a Jr. High School are coming under fire after the drama club used a matchmaking web site as a fundraiser.

Kids in six grade were allowed to fill out a survey that will pair them up with potential opposite sex matches.

The superintendent of the school said the survey was “harmless.”  It has been used to raise money at the school for 15 years.  Here is the link:  Link

  • Punishment in School

When I was in school, I had detention several times.  I had in-school suspension for two days.  I was swatted twice.

What was the worse punishment you ever received in school?

  • Tweeting an Abortion

Angie Jackson is in the news for tweeting her abortion live.

The woman said “nothing is off-limits on Twitter, not even the details of her abortion.”

She took the abortion pill and then told everyone what she was thinking and feeling.  She typed, “Cramps are getting a bit more persistent.”  She went on to post “Definitely bleeding now.”  Here is the link:  Link

Do you think that no topic is off-limits for the Internet?

  • The Xangans Who Are No Longer Here

Andrew recommended an old post of mine tonight.

It was a post from July 19, 2006.  I was having a contest to find the xanga site with the best content.  Here is the link:  Link

It was interesting to look at the list that people had recommended and see how many of them were gone.  Here is the list:

It made me miss the good old days.

Edit:  I realize that some of those people still blog.  That is why I said, “It was interesting to look at the list that people had recommended and see how many of them were gone.”

You don’t have to pick from this list.

Which former xangan do you miss the most?

  • Obama and Islam

I was just reading Foxnews.com and I found out there is a controversy over the new logo of the Missle Defense Agency.  Here is the link:  Link

    Here is the new logo:

It has a “crescent and a star design” which is a common “symbol for Islam” as you can see with this logo:

    Coincidence?

  • No Soup For You

A mother is in the news because she punished her child for forgetting his lunch by withholding lunch from him.

The little boy forgot to put his lunch in his bag.  The mother saw that he forgot to bring his lunch when she returned home from the bus stop.  She e-mailed his teacher and said she didn’t want her son to have lunch as punishment.

The school gave the boy lunch anyway because they felt he would do better in school with lunch.  The mother was upset at the school for not supporting her.  Here is the link:  Link

  • Pole Dancing in the Olympics

I was just reading an article about the idea of adding pole dancing to the Olympics.  The sport has been growing in popularity.  Here is the link:  Link

Do you think pole dancing should be added to the Olympics?
