Chatroulette
I was just reading an article about chatroulette.com. It is a site that allows its users to get on a webcam and it randomly sets them up with other people. Here is the link: Link
People can get randomly connected with anyone. Some people have been using the site to get naked and expose themselves to others. The concern is that the site is a danger to underage users.
According to the article, the basic understanding of the Communications Decency Act of 1996 exempts Chatroulette because they are not responsible for the content of the users.
Do you think Chatroulette should be held responsible when people expose themselves on their site?
Comments (53)
Nope. In short. I can talk with you about this if you want more tcom insight.
Not if they have a tos that requires everyone be of age.
No.
maybe they can have “chat rooms” or something.
a room for 18+ and a room for teens and a room for….younger people lol.
I don’t even think kids under 13 are allowed to do this stuff…idk
they do it anyways lol
Where would this world be without the wankers?
Honestly, with a site like that people should know what to expect. When I first heard about chatroulette all I could think about was how many people must use it to flash people.
No thanks.
Noperz.
Na, dude.
@Azruel - so true, i felt the same. common sense much?
Why should it be held to a higher standard than any other internet site? I’ve seen more unsheathed body parts on xanga than I ever wanted to see. I wish I could forget most of them.
Not really. They should just make it obvious that people should use discretion while using their site. No big deal.
no
No. It is the responsibility of parents/guardians to monitor what sites children visit.
Na
hell no ! they shouldn’t be expected to control what people do !
they should have some very noticeable warnings, at least.
I’m still wondering why Xanga was fined, years ago, if all the sites “child protection” are easily circumvented by someone under the age of 10. X_X
I’m sure they’ve got something stating you’ve gotta be a certain age to use it. I doubt they would set up their business and not cover their ass. Even then, they still have a point. It’s ultimately up to the user to protect themselves from such things.
They should attempt to at least limit how old the users are… but otherwise, I guess logging on is an at your own risk thing.
Wait, wasn’t the Communications Decency Act struck down as Unconstitutional?
nopee
Well, thing is, folks who would even wanna mess with that I think are probably hoping thats what they will see. I mean come on, why else WOULD you take a chance like that? geeez
Is my apartment responsible when my neighbors have ridiculously loud gay sex?
Whatever! WHATEVER! I do what I want!
@DrugInducedDuck - HAHAHAHA, I can’t stop laughing at this
If anything everyone should be exposed to what people are doing on that site. People today are way too sheltered and fragile. I say good job chatroullette, blow up our minds and pry the youth from their respective titties
No. Underage users shouldn’t be roulette video chatting with strangers anyways. Whether they’re naked or not seems sort of besides the point.
Nope, underage users shouldn’t be chatting with random people anyway. Whether or not they are naked is kind of beside the point.
no.
Only the most naive person goes to such a site without knowledge of what it is all about.
Yes, They should be held responsible for not taking the extra precautions to making sure their users are of age.
No, but they ought to post prominent warnings to let users know that’s going on. As far as I know, that’s what they’re doing.
Yes, because they only require their minimum age to be 16, meaning they are allowing minors on there.
God no- the parents should be responsible because THEY’RE the ones giving their children unlimited access to the internet. Children shouldn’t be allowed on chat rooms. When I’m a parent I will filter what they can and can’t see. After all, it is not a porn website’s FAULT if the child goes on there and views porn- it’s the parent’s fault for giving them such freedom.
Chatroulette isn’t just comprised of perverts, though (30% fappers, 30% “tits or GTFO”, 40% genuinely nice people just wanting to chat.) but I still wouldn’t give my children access to a place they can talk to strangers… Even if they’re decent day-day people. It’s just inappropriate.
@bryonyinsua - I completely agree. It’s the parents’ responsibility.
Chatroulette is clearly intended for adults. As long as they make the (common sense) risks clear when people sign up, I don’t see the problem. Honestly, I think the whole concept of the site is pretty cool. I love how you can talk to anyone without it filtering members based on age, location, or anything else. It makes the world seem small.
Nope.
Maybe they should just have a “input your age” part before you’re allowed to start chatting and then set an age limit. That way if a kid lies about their age then it just falls on their shoulders.
Blah. Parents should take responsibility for their kids.
Naaaaaaaaaah!
Nay.
no. they can’t control what everyone is doing.
they can, however, shut down the accounts of the people who are doing it once they find out.
No, they are not responsible.
No way -.-’
I for one shall stay clear of it…. I’m far too random for any of them to handle. ;)
Its not the site’s fault when people get stupid.
@DrugInducedDuck - Nope, but youll find quite often that people will take it up with thier apartment complex office for disturbance of the peace if its too loud =P
Haha, seriously though, good comment =P
The website should be more responsible or they shouldn’t complain when they start taking fire.
Nope.
it’s good fun if you follow the rules of the internet.
with a site like that they should know what to expect, lol. so my answer is no.
I tried this site out the other day.. and OH man. First of all, 90% of the people it hooked me up with were either looking for boobage or had their schlongs hanging out already. BUT.. there was this one guy who said he was trippin on acid (and probably other stuff) and he was a fREAK! He made gross faces, danced around, put weird shit on top of his head, and tons more. So chatroulette was fun in the sense that there are some entertaining weirdos out there.
Not right.
I’ve been trying to find hours and now I have got such splendid work.nextplease
