Breast Milk Cheese
A Chef is in the news because he is serving breast milk cheese at his restaurant.
His fiance was producing extra milk from her breastfeeding and he didn’t want to waste it so he made “Mommy’s Milk Cheese” out of it. Here is the link: Link
Apparently people trying the cheese in the restaurant are giving it positive reviews.
If you went to the restaurant, would you try the Mommy’s Milk Cheese?

…
i hope it doesn’t look like THAT
HELL NO!
No thanks, I am quite okay with cow milk
i dont know how i would feel having someone tell me that the cheese in my salad was made from their wife’s breast milk.
Tasty, I’ve always wanted to try breast milk, from a non-baby perspective!
No thank you. This reminds me of the episode of Friends where Ross tried Carol’s breast milk…
WTF?
No thanks.
@kinamorata - Ha, me too. =]]]
i just threw up in my mouth a little, and that image is now seared into my long-term nightmare memory.
Doesn’t all milk come from titties?
LOL no. I wouldn’t. that milk belongs to the baby.
lol “Mommy’s Milk Cheese”
Even “Mummy’s Milk Cheese” is vomit-worthy
Ah…no.
hell no
Gross.
As much as I love cheese that’s a big NO NO
I think I’d try it.
Isn’t that illegal? Not that it’s bad, the milk is intended for humans.
NO
That is horrible. Horrible.
@AphoticxIllusion - Yeah, I was wondering about that. Like, is it okay with the FDA and all those food regulations and what not?
borat
I’ll try almost anything once.
LMFAO.
I don’t think I could stomach it…
If she has that much extra milk that he can make cheese out of it, why don’t they donate it to a program that provides breast milk for premature or desperately ill babies?
Kathi
eeew milk is so weird, imagine sitting next to the woman whose milk you are eating. That would feel uncomfortable and offputting.
wrong, no.
@Still_groovy - There’s a program for that? Has breast milk been proven to increase the health of premature babies? Interesting.
id totally try it. why is this grosser than cheese from a different species? we’re meant to eat this, not other specie’s milk…
@ShimmerBodyCream - exactly.
@Still_groovy - @frozencherries - they are going throught he process, but it is quite difficult with lots of paperwork/testing, etc. so while they’re waiting, he’s experamenting. (and yes, breastmilk is the absolutel best thing for a premature baby)
@frozencherries - Yes, sometimes breast milk is the only thing a severely allergic, ill, or premature baby can tolerate. I would think any hospital with a neonatal intensive care nursery would either have such a program, or be able to refer someone to one. Much better use of it than on a restaurant menu – ugh!
@Still_groovy - I had no idea about any of that. Very interesting and good to know.
@makethemakersmile - ah, i see.
No.
Probably not, although we did try making ice cream with breastmilk when I was nursing our youngest son.
@hilaw - LOL i was looking down the list waiting for someone to say it
thats..um..not my ideal dish
no
I would try it at least once and give myself a chance to find out if breast milk/breast milk cheese is cringe-worthy/disgusting/yummy rather than going “ew” at the thought of it. So yes.
Eww, no!
NO. EW. That is disgusting…
Let’s see what sounds more appealing… Drinking another species’ milk or my own species’ milk?
Humans are the only species on earth that drinks another’s milk. I think that’s weird. I drink soy and rice milk because I think drinking cow’s milk is disgusting and unnatural.
@ShimmerBodyCream - Exactly! Cows…goats…sheep…human females…
OMG! OMG! O-M-G!!!
Mama’s milk-the new feta curd.Think I’ll not, and say I did.
Ewwww, really??? Yecch. I think not. *projectile vomits*
Hm. I wonder why we’re so disgusted with breast milk in the first place. Most of us have had it before…
Anyway, I don’t know. Maybe, depending on how daring I am at the time.
Ewwwwwwwwwww !!!!!
Sure, makes great coffee creamer too
None for me thank you.
uh hell nooooooooooo
No, thanks I’m trying to quite…..Thats plain down wrong and disgusting
How’d I know this would find its way onto your blog? There’s a lot I’m willing to try. This ain’t one of them.
yuk
Somehow, I don’t think that’s been FDA approved.
That sounds awkward…
@Still_groovy - because that would hardly turn a profit… …or shock anyone… and frankly, I see more and more that those are the two elements that drive our society.
That just sucks!
Well.. I’m 50/50…
I agree that it seems odd on a menu where the milk is coming from someone you don’t know… but at the same time.. any cheese on a menu is coming from mammal you don’t know.
I breastfed, I think the health benefits for babies are amazing, plus it’s less expensive… and takes less time to pack up and go out for a day.
I won’t lie, think I’m gross if you must… but I tasted it. I didn’t drink gallons of it a day or anything, but I tasted everything I fed to my baby before he did…. just in case. I would feel like an ass if I was feeding him something that was horrifying. Which is probably another reason I breastfed… formula is gross.
But, the point is… it’s not like it tasted awful. It’s taste is a little weaker and sweeter than whole cow’s milk… at least mine was. I imagine if I ate an assload of garlic and vinegar before I produced the milk, it might not be so appealing..haha.
I think I’d try it… but I’d probably be iffy about who produced it…. you can transfer things through breastmilk.. .and not just illness.. but chemicals and substances too.
people drink cow’s milk. technically that is also ‘mommy’s milk’
@TheGiantSlayer - Oh, I know. What he is doing is creating a buzz for his restaurant and pocket, that a philanthropic use of the milk would not bring. Yes, it is sad that society goes further and further in that direction.
Kathi
Mmmmm…YUMMEY!!!!
ew, i heard about this yesterday and almost threw up. and no… i wouldn’t try it.
I think that kind of made me gag a little.
Sure. Why not? We drink milk that comes from cow tits, why are people so grossed out to drink milk from a human?
Its interesting that people are so opposed to the idea, yet they readily drink the milk of another species…not that I’d eat breastmilk cheese, just sayin.
Not unless it was my own.
nnnnnno.
I have always found it funny that we have no problem with milk from a cows tit or milk from goats tit etc but most people are grossed out by the thought of milk from a human. The non-emotional response would be, sure human milk cheese is bound to be better for me than milk from an animal. Yet, that obvious intent for humans to consume human milk doesn’t really play into it, we make this decision about human milk mainly based on knee jerk emotion alone. My concerns would be health ones. Just as cows can carry diseases and their milk has to be pasteurized to increase the safety of us ingesting it so humans milk can also carry diseases, many of which are far worse than a cow kept on a farm and fed on a controlled diet could ever be expected to have. With modern day dairy farming bout the worst you can end up with even with unpasteurized milk is salmonella. A whole range of diseases can be transmitted through milk though and when human milk is heated even a bit too much it breaks down. I’m not sure how it could be heated to a safe enough temperature to eliminate the spread of disease. Therefore I would not drink it or eat it. Another problem would be consistency, human milk like other animals milk can have huge variations in quality based on what a mother eats. Since we don’t herd women and control everything going into their mouths and since they don’t eat the same things every day there would obviously be no way to tell how the milk might taste from day to day.
Not unless it was my mommy and I was an infant who neither knew better nor was old enough to know how gross it is I’m consuming someone’s bodily product.
@Still_groovy - That’s what I’m wondering! Although, I have had extra milk and donating it has been a huge hassle. The application process took forever. Maybe that’s the issue?
It would be really, really weird to think if came out of some lady’s boob. But yes, I’d try it. I’ve always wanted to try breast milk (after being a baby), but somehow I get the feeling that asking to suck women’s chests wouldn’t go down too well.
Isn’t human milk for humans? I’m asking
no
horrible. never in a million years.
Oh I think I want to throw up now.
Anything made with bodily fluids (*cough* sperm recipe *cough*) is just plain disgusting.
NO. I’m not against it, but the idea of this makes me want to vomit. Seriously. I’m thinking about it now. Ahaha
I think it is funny that people feel stranger (not that I don’t fall in that camp) about drinking/eating something that comes out of a cow’s (or goat for that matter) udder than they do about a human woman’s udder/breast. Isn’t that a little backwards? I mean, wouldn’t it make more sense for us to be LESS comfortable with a cow’s udder?
yuck!!! that’s disgusting i didn’t like it as a baby and i sure as hell won’t like it now!!!
No thanks, I’d rather drink my milk from cow tits.
Oh so mommy milk cheese is gross but the vegans are screaming off the top of their lungs, claiming cow’s milk is unnatural for humans.
Anywhoo, I’m going to back to my COW milk. kthx
gag
jesus christ.
It looks like scallops glued to a snowball.
But eh, maybe once. Check off one thing I want to do before I die, haha.
And if I end up liking it, cool.
I’d try it, because I’m a big believer of “try everything once”…but yech. The idea is grossing me out. :p
Well, it makes more sense than drinking the milk that is for baby cows, if you really think about it. I would try it if the milk was pasturized. I would guess that it is since it’s being served.
I’m going to have to pass. thanks though
I do remember, my senior year in nursing school, I did my leadership rotation on the NICU. The nurses were talking about how on time a lady had extra milk so she made the girls cookies with her breast milk. Again, thanks, but no thanks.
Allegedly, the breast milk cheese got good reviews, however the beer that he served using his wife’s yeast infection was reported to have not been very good.
I like cheese and milk both way too much to try that.
@Mcon - AHAHAHAHAHHA!
@bundleoflisa - But doesn’t other milk belong to other babies? @_@
tons if nutrients
Okay, it sounds pretty gross.. but after reading the article, I can kinda understand where the couple is coming from, they didnt’ wanna waste the breast milk and it’s not easy to donate… But I wouldn’t try it lol. I wouldn’t even try my own milk, I don’t think I can try human milk, just the thought of it is gross haha.
I’d do it.
Hell, it might even be GOOD for me since human milk IS MADE for humans.
Milk is milk. Got milk?
maybe if the name didn’t make it sound so nasty.
Images of Dennis Hopper with an oxygen mask. “Where’s my bourbon???”
No. While I’m very pro breastfeeding and continue to breastfeed my 15 month old son I wouldn’t consume someone’s milk. Number one, weird. Number two, disease and byproducts of what a person consumes and medications they take are in breastmilk. Lyme disease for example can be transfered via breastmilk. Late stage lyme is very hard to test for and usually unknown to the person carrying it. You won’t catch me drinking anyone’s milk.
ETA: people with allergies should NOT try someone’s milk. Since foods make it into milk, the milk can set off someone’s allergy. I don’t hardly expect doners to have wheat free, lactose free, peanut free, soy free, etc, etc, etc, diet. Any breastfeeding mother could tell you this. Many of us have to limit lactose in our diets because our little ones are sensative to it.
That’s so fucking disgusting and weird. Breast milk is supposed to stay milk for babies. Not made into CHEESE.
Probably not. I don’t like cheese at the best of times…
oh hell yeah I’d try it. it’s cheese, made from breast milk!
yes, it would actually be decintly healthy for us, if we did have it. I would definately have it.
hey, i’m a breastfeeding mommy and i’d tried a sip of my “production”, its taste is better then other milk.
but i think it is too embrassing to drink/eat other mommy’s “production”.
How about soybeans grown by mothers…. you could call it Edamommy. :D
It sounds like a health-code nightmare.
Fuck no.
sure i guess….
That can’t be legal.
I hear that if you splash breast milk on dear ricky, he melts.
I’d try it. :3 I always figured venturing out of one’s comfort zone would guarantee a far richer life.
That’s horrifying and disgusting.
I just couldn’t do it.
No, freaking EW.
