  • Black People: Please Leave

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for announcing in the public-address system at WalMart, “All black people, leave the store.”

He was charged for “bias and intimidation and harrassment.”  The boy could face up to a year in a juvenile detention center.  Here is the link:  Link

I don’t know about you but I think it is a little bit extreme to arrest a kid because he spoke a few words into a public-address system at WalMart.  Who hasn’t thought of doing that?  It sounds like a harmless prank to me.

Do you think the boy should be arrested for asking black people to leave WalMart?

  • Of course not! Plus that’s pretty funny.

  • It’d be much easier to make him pay. Literally.

  • Not if he buys a black barbie for the same price as a white one.

  • I think it was too harsh though at his age he should be wise enough to know that saying that would get him into trouble.

  • Eh, this is the desperation of American society. It’s going to get worse. Enjoy. :P

  • I knew I could count on you for “the rest of the story.” lol, kid’s an immature brat

  • I think he should get a public spanking.

  • it’s not the fact that he said a few words over the public-address system, it’s what he said that matters.

  • He should do community service in a predominately black neighborhood.  That’ll teach him.

  • He did something horrible and offensive to an entire race.  Of course he should have to face the results

  • The black people should have just left.

  • Is it illegal to say anything against black people? No it’s not. We technically have freedom of speech, not that I think that what he said was right. People are allowed to have their own opinions and say what they want. If he should have gotten in trouble for anything, it should have been from using the loudspeaker. Although, I don’t think he should be arrested.

  • do i think he should be arrested, no.

do i think he should get whatever else is coming to him from the general public, yes.

  • I don’t understand why anyone would consider this to be a harmless prank.

  • A whole year? This kid is 16… He should be punished but not locked up.

  • Stupid shit shouldn’t have said black people, if it was a prank. Of course there was going to be very harsh consequences for that. People are sensitive. I don’t know how I feel personally about it but maybe an arrest was harsh. Make the idiot apologise and pay a large fine.

  • Agreed with raintimer.

  • black people > white trash

  • I’m not gonna lie and say that I didn’t laugh when I first read that, lol.

He’s a 16 year old kid, kids are dumb and do stupid things. I definitely don’t think that he deserves to be arrested, through he shouldn’t have expected to have just gotten away with it home free either.

  • No, he shouldn’t be arrested. This situation has been blown way out of proportion.

  • I wonder if a black kid who said that to white people over the PA would have to spend a year in JD.

  • The boy needs to learn that certain actions will trigger consequences.

  • He should be flogged, and made to pay
    reparations.  I hath spoken.

  • What if it had been reversed? Bet it would have been different.

  • @Drewsius - Damn! You beat me!

  • He should be caned imo. Pull pranks all you want, but when they infringe on someone else, you’ve got a problem. A problem only caning can fix.

  • no i don’t think he should be in jail, but his parents or someone should teach him a lesson about being an idiot

  • This has been blown WAY out of proportion. It was a JOKE. Granted…it was a joke in REALLY bad taste but, an arrest is a little bit extreme.

  • @WondersCafe - nobody’s yet taught that to politicians, so how can you teach it to kids?

  • @funny_guydude - I got one. I’m having fun with mine (wink.) And you?

  • drop him off in the ghetto on a platform with a set of speakers playing what he said over and over again.

  • Hell no they should leave and fucking learn how to drive while they are at it. I almost fought a bitch today at walmart, she looked like Shirley from Whats Happenin’ and she had a jerry curl.. she almost hit me in the parking lot that she was JAMMING through trying desperately to find a close spot. She had to swirve to not hit me in her hussle as I crossed the lot after RETURNING MY BASKET TO THE PROPER PLACE, and she said “move you fat bitch”.. Well my head spun and I said “what EVER” and she stopped the car and said ” oh you bet not be talking to ME bitch” and I shoved my son into the car, locked the door and turned towards her as she and her girlfriends drove away cutting through the middle of the isle on the lot.. BITCHES!!!

I had to contain myself, I was ready to box but I had my son with me and my husband was in the restroom inside.. Had to be proper but dang, she needed to GO and I wanted to send her there.

  • Oh and to answer YOUR question for real, no…he shouldnt be in trouble, it was harmless, he was being  a 16 yr old kid.

  • I think what he said was beyond rude, distasteful & his parents ought to be ashamed of him. IF they didnt teach him racism, they should be ashamed he would act so stupid & embarrass them. If I was his mother, I sure as hell wouldnt waste my hard earned money bailing him out.

Jail may be extreme but he should do something to make him think twice on his future actions. When 2 high school boys thought it was cute to paint a swastika on a jewish girl’s car, they got suspended from school & had to take a mandatory trip to a Holocaust museum to see if they still thought it was funny. Maybe this boy should pay a fine, be banned from that particular store (since those phones are passcoded, it’s considered tresspassing in some places if you use them) & serve community service in a center that helps inner city youth. I’d make him spend a night in jail to see where people end up for making stupid decisions too.

  • Haha, that kid sounds like a little shit.

  • Yeah. It’s kind of like if he announced there was a fire in the
building. He may have just been “a kid talking over a speaker,” but his
words could have incited some public chaos.

  • It may have been a rude and juvenile thing to do but it also falls under freedom of speech. By arresting and threatening charges against him, they are criminalizing his voiced opinions. In this way, the very notion of a right to freedom of speech (which is guaranteed by the 1st Amendment of the Constitution) is being attacked and a de facto form of censorship imposed.
The issue really ought to be between the kid and Walmart. Maybe they should ban him from their stores as punishment or sue him if they think it’s worth the effort. Ultimately it’s partially their fault anyway for not securing their phone system well enough. I don’t understand what this has to do with law enforcement. It’s not like he shouted “All black people leave the store or I will kill you with a gun.”

  • Hurm. Don’t think he should have done it, but that is a rather harsh punishment

  • @UR_MUSE - You make a good point. I agree, banning him from the store or something sounds more reasonable. :/

  • he’s just an immature kid, and shouldn’t be arrested

  • I think if the comment was less race oriented, then it would have been excusable, but such remarks are not okay. However, you never know though because that might have been a dare from his friends to do that.

  • uh…. you think that was a harmless prank? the boy is racist. there is nothing harmless or funny about that.

  • Extreme?  Maybe.  Little prank?  Not so much.  He knew exactly what he was saying and knew the reaction he would get.  He did something stupid and whether or not the consequences are severe matter little.  He probably won’t end up serving that length of time anyway, but the question is will he have learned any type of lesson.  Shrug.

  • I’m not going to lie, I really did laugh when I read this, but he should not be arrested.  I’m not saying that what he did was good or right or anything, but to arrest a 16 year old?  At 16, people say stupid stuff.

  • I laughed at first when I read it, but then I thought, what I would have thought if I was in the store shopping. I probably would have ignored it, but depending on where in the South I was, I might have actually been afraid.

I don’t think it’s cool. As for a year? Eh, not sure. But he should have to service community service in a black neighborhood for a year

  • pssh… only if theyd arrest any other 16  year old boy and treat him the same.

  • and the boy is……..what race?

  • I once found a two-way radio in a shopping cart at WalMart.  ?- How DO average Joes get access to radios and the intercom at the World’s Biggest Retailer?  The same thing happened at a Target, two years ago-The kid said he was from ICE and wanted to see all Mexicans out back.

  • that punishment is nothing.  if you’re talking about extreme, it would be to show that little coward to a crowd of angry black customers and let them beat the shit out of him.

  • If he had said “All white people live the store” you’d have never heard a thing about this.

  • I have to admit that I laughed when I first read this story! Race is such a sensitive issue, though, so it wasn’t very smart. He should have known they would lower the boom on him.

  • he deserves it. just because he is “16″ doesnt mean a thing he is old enough to know that it is not a funny comment nor can he get away with saying stuff like that in public these days without either getting his ass kicked or clearly arrested. he is old enough to understand the consequences, if it had been a young 16 year old black male who did the prank only saying all white people leave the store i have no doubt he would get the same punishment or worse. Thats basically a hate crime. he needs to grow the hell up and so do a lot of you who think something like that is “okay” this is 2010 no need to be stuck in 1959.
    he is a asinine brat.
    @Nellie0x - @MattFreakinNix - @LauraG0929 - @andfeud - @PrettyKitten@datingish -

oh and by the way if you think him getting arrested for that is stupid then thats nothing where i live i know some 5th grader who was taken away from school in hand cuffs arrested for something small and petty like having an argument with another kid. so if we live in a place where a 5th grader gets arrested for that then a 16 year old can get arrested for stupid immature “pranks” i wouldnt call what he said a prank, that was certainly a hate crime.
    @iamjacksrottingliver - @raintimer - @GiantUnicorn -

  • He shouldn’t get arrested because of his stupidity, HOWEVER he should be made to some community service or something that will teach him a lesson without juvi.

  • @Beastrother - Yeah, like you said it’s 2010 and not 1959. LIGHTEN UP!! Where the hell do you get the idea of it being a “hate crime?” You’re overreacting. I’m not the one who needs to “grow up.” Obviously, I can laugh at a joke instead of having a stick up my ass like you.

  • It sounds like a stupid prank. Who cares!

  • Absolutely he should be arrested. I wasn’t there, but any little brat who wants to stand up and say what ever he wants deserves a ride in a cop car and some time to think about why he’s being punished.

  • He should just should make a public apology after being arrested.

  • He wouldn’t have been if he said white people instead. Naw sayin’?

  • I think that the law enforcement’s approach and measures are kind of… too severe.

I am pretty much sure he did not realize that this would “get him so far”…
I say… community service would suffice? Because of the seriousness and gravity of situation (which I would classify as “low”),I do not think this kid should be placed with those who commit legitimate crimes, like stealing cars, drug dealing, battery, assault etc.
So yeah, community service should be enough.

  • @Beastrother - I don’t think this really constitutes a hate crime. I mean, yes, it was a rude, disrespectful, and frankly immature thing to do, but I really doubt the dude did it out of malevolence or actual prejudice. That’s the real point of it. So, while be tolerant of a punishment of community service or whatever, I really think to have putting the kid up on a charge that could put him in juvie for a year is severe overkill.

I fail to see any real harm that came out of this, so I fail to see how having the person arrested and charged with a crime is a reasonable response.

  • he definitely should have been arrested for a public disturbance and a hate crime, but a year in a juvenile detention center might be a bit much. I seriously doubt that’ll happen. I’ll wager he has his fair share of ass beatings coming up in the not-too-distant future. He sure as hell deserves that.

  • Just make him pay a fine. He should pay a fine for using the system anyway, regardless of what he said. But what he said was wrong and he’s 16, that’s not young, so yeah, he should be punished for it. It’s like a racist attack, only verbal.

  • Did they arrest “reverend” Write when he was so vocal about “the white devils”?  Do they arrest rappers or song artists for saying things about people of a given race or gender?  Are the KKK or Black Panthers ever arrested on site simply for speaking their beliefs?  These people are adults and have said FAR worse than this child and we see no legal action taken.  Shoot, I could make a list of things said to me personally that are based soley on race that are even worse than what I have ever actually personally heard from any of my examples and it was done publically and nothing was ever done to them.  There is something called the FIRST ammendment.  It gives us freedom of speech.  So long as the kid is not threatening anyone, then the only thing he should be punished for is messing with Wal-Mart’s intercom.  All the kid needs is a little public humiliation and a public appology (plus whatever his parents give him for embarrasing them) and they can call it a day.

  • No. If he was joking, I find that hilarious. But if he was serious, I think he needs some counselling.

    @funny_guydude - Nice.

  • Well, here’s the question. Do you think Wal-Mart should get sued for what happened? My husband told me last night that they are taking all the phones off the floor, and doing a lot of other crap because of this dumbass kid.

  • I think Wal-Mart is angry with him because this incident was, for some reason, reflecting poorly on the reputation of Wal-Mart itself. Too many people took this event and ran with it, declaring Wal-Mart racist. So the company is miffed and wants to make a statement.

  • i have to admit i laughed hysterically when i first heart about this story and have been tracking its progress. i don’t think he should be imprisoned for doing something juvenile.  the kid is an idiot.

  • I don’t think it will hold up in court.  The most he could really get is public disturbance.  I don’t believe he stated an actual threat and I believe harassment needs to be repeated and must be preceded by a request to stop the action.

The fact that he was arrested is ridiculous.   This is just a MEDIA GIG!

  • This is on the NEWS to DISTRACT YOU from HEALTH CARE REFORM  and THE MIDDLE EAST

     WAKE UP AMERICA

  • There’s got to be a better punishment that will actually teach him to stop doing things like that, not build resentment.

  • Arrested for bias? That’s new. I guess I better watch my backside then.

As for the kid, he’s 16 and dumb as a rock. I think he should get whatever normal pranksters get (doesn’t it vary from state to state?), the dog-crap-in-a-bag type.

  • It was ignorant but that is not a crime, someone should kick his ass though.

  • @Nellie0x - What about that is funny? Asking black people to leave is funny? Sick sense of humor.

  • I think a year in lockup is overkill for such a silly prank. I also dont think he’ll really end up spending any time in lockup at all unless he acts like a jerk in Juvenile court. Most of the time these things with teens make big headlines but in reality the judges treat them like what they are; silly stupid pranks that should be handled with constructive discipline.

  • Let’s put our thinking caps on…What if a little black kid said that on the loud speaker? He would get so much more than just a year in a rinky dink detention center. Does ANYONE remember the Jena 6. This is why this country has much more to do in terms of race relations and equality. This nauseates me.

  • @LivingxForxChristx - Can someone explain to me why this is funny? Racist rednecks think this sort of stuff is funny.

  • arrested, no. but definitely reprimanded in some way… needs to learn a lesson

  • @QueenOfOreos - Is the main point of this avoiding trouble or realizing that we still live in a racist society?

  • @joyouswind - haha yeah that would do it.

  • We would not be haveing this arguement had he said “White people leave.” This is black people over reacting the way they always do given the chance. Nothing more.

  • @Rob_of_the_Sky -  Depending on which “black” neighborhood, that may be a death sentence!    Compton, CA.   ,   College Park, GA.   ,   The Calliope Projects, New Orleans, LA.   or   certain parts of boroughs in NYC for example!  LOL!!

    @EBailey@revelife - you aint lyin!

What if he had said:  All Latinos/Asians/Arabs/Catholics/Baptist/Jews/Muslims/Gays/Lesbians/ ect., leave the store?

  • @jericholic2525 -  what if the kid was black and said “all white people, leave the store!”?  I guess that wouldn’t bother you?  Just let that black kid get away with it, no big deal huh?  -_-

  • Send his ass to Oakland. But seriously, give the kid some kind of slap on the wrist, but to send him to prison? You know, I’m against racism, but I’m just as against people who can’t recognise a bloody joke/prank.

  • @jericholic2525 - @bluepillorredpill - It is not necessarily so that the result would be more lenient if it was a black kid had done the prank in offense of white people. Your bias leads you to ASSUME that it would be so. The question presented should be whether the situation deserve lenience or punishment regardless of the race of the offender and the targets?

  • Yes. But I would have charged him with trespassing.

He was doing something he was not supposed to do and that exposed him to some kind of liability, something most here are overlooking in the rush to excuse him for a stupid prank just because it had racial tones.

It does seems to me that if anyone does or says anything against nonwhite people, however inappropriate, offensive or part of genuine wrongdoing, it gets a free pass with some people. Perhaps the bias is the same the other way around. Let us just assume that racism is wrong whether against your own group or someone else’s.

  • @bluepillorredpill - I would’ve laughed at that. So yeah, they’re over-reacting.

  • @bluepillorredpill - If it had been me, I’d've added in that the Kool-Aid Man was outside. Of course, they would’ve caught me sooner, because I’d be on the ground pissing myself. I have a horrid sense of humour.

  • @Beastrother - Just because something like that happened doesn’t mean it should happen again.

  • I mean, I think what he said wasn’t that bad, He could have said alot worse.  That being said I do think he should have got arrested. Just to scare the crap outta him, and let him know what he could get charged with, but let him go. I mean sure there is freedom of speech and if u want to say something like that then just say don’t say it on the loud speaker. Idc if u dont like a certain group of ppl or if he just thought it was a funny prank, its a tad bit offensive.

  • @squeakysoul - your right, the punishment should fit the “crime”.  I’m just saying it will bother and offend many people of the racial group that gets insulted like this, and disciplinary actions should be taken against that kid.

@Schristian - I agree.  A hard slap in the face if you ask me!

@squeakysoul - Well, as a black man, it doesn’t bother me too much.  I would just shake my head and ignore it, but I can’t speak for other black people.  So, I tell you what, you go find a group of those black folks or any black folks, who were or are offended by that kids comment, and tell them that they are “over-reacting” and that they should have just laughed at it.  Who knows, they may agree with you! You’ll probably get a kind response!!    LOL

  • @Beastrother - Well, after reading your rather long rant there… *rolls eyes*

If someone announced over the PA system at Wal-Mart telling all white people to GTFU, I’d laugh. Seriously. It’s called having a sense of humor, I wouldn’t take it so seriously or assume that it was a hate crime at all. I’m not encouraging it, but to be so tight assed about it doesn’t really do any good either, it just makes you uptight.

  • It would be cheaper just to let him have three whacks with a “board of education.” However, that would affect the amount of money that the system can mismanage as he enters into juvie hall, where he will learn to be a much less kinder person.

No, he should not be arrested. He should be put on the PA system at Wal-Mart and issue an apology to those he offended.

  • @EBailey@revelife - I knew a long time ago that we still live in a society that is still racist to an exent. Though it has gotten better, we still see it around. I am not saying this boy is racist and most likely a lot of the people in the store didn’t even take offense which is why I say that he shouldn’t be punished so, but I think that he should have known that if he did that, more likely he would be causing some problems as he now knows.

  • It’s interesting to see all the excuses some of you make for this young man.  It’s true he was extremely naive, but that is no excuse for his pathetic behavior.  My goodness, this event has already got some of you arguing between yourselves and making crude jokes about black and white barby dolls.

I’m not American.  Your country enslaved black people for more than one hundred years. There’s understandably some serious sensitivity on the part of many when blacks are perceived to be belittled.  White America brought this mess on themselves!

This 16-yr-old is being given a much-deserved scare.  But he’s not going to be imprisoned for a year!  I side with those who recommend lengthy community service in a black neighborhood.

I totally disagree with those who call this a “harmless prank!”

  • Arrested? No.  It is harsh, however, being 16 in this day and age he should have known better than to use the store’s system.  Second, what he said is what a lot of people are upset about.

  • I hold only one opinion on this – I would have loved to have been in the Wal-Mart at the time

  • @raintimer - I have to agree, what happened to freedom of speech? Yeah, the loudspeaker was wrong, and heck no, I don’t agree with the little tart but geez! Extreme much?

  • @MomGoneMadd - Man, you are stinkin’ hilarious!!!! Thanks for the laugh.

“Attention, attention. All redneck, honkey, lilly-white, buck-toothed, trailer trash, crackers leave the Walmart now.” Now we’re even.

  • I’ve thought for a while that Walmart needs to get more consistent with their drug-testing.  The kid probably high as a kite and goofing around with the PA.  Probably 8 of the last 10 times I’ve been to Walmart, someone has gotten on the announcement system and goofed around….no kidding.  Most of the time, it’s pretty amusing though.  I agree that this particular instance of telling all the black people to leave the store WAS definitely in poor taste, racist, and crossed a line.  I don’t think this should be something he spends a year in a juvenile detention center for though…there is nothing to be gained from that.  Rather, he should have to participate in a drug awareness program (because I’ll bet good money he was baked when he did it) and do a year of community service at an inner city BGCA.

  • @funny_guydude - hahaha. :) I think what he did was fucked up but jail? Really? I think he just needs a good ass kicking.

  • @BrassMonkeyOriginals - @fivepts -

    “Attention, attention. All redneck,
honkey, lilly-white, buck-toothed, trailer trash, crackers leave the
    Walmart now.” Now we’re even.

Now THAT would have been funny….and it would have emptied the store (all except for me, non-white trash darling that I am and all the non-white people shopping there).

Seriously though, the last time I was at Wally World, someone got on the PA and announced that Elvis had left the building.

  • a year in detention seems a tad harsh, after all, boys will be boys !  maybe he should be made to clean the store restrooms for a week and write an essay on insensitivity.

  • @crystal_air - @Drewsius - That’s what I was going to say. If someone got on the loudspeaker and told all the white people to leave, you can bet it would NOT have turned out to be so big of an issue.

  • @Grampa_David - You’re not American, I am American, and yes, I’m white, but let’s be honest now – did EITHER of us have ANYTHING TO DO with the enslavement of black people? NO! So I don’t want to hear about how I should be more sensitive because I “brought this on myself”. I did no such thing. I have no control over what my ancestors did – if they even did it (They were probably all still over in Europe at the time, who knows?). And I reject the idea that I should continue to feel guilty about what happened before I was even alive.

No, we should not run around making racist remarks and being discriminatory and perpetuating stereotypes, and all those things. But that should apply to EVERYONE, not just ONE race. It’s still racism no matter what race you’re discriminating against, and regardless of whether that race was enslaved, or enslaved someone else:
rac·ism   [rey-siz-uhm]  Show IPA–noun1.a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others.2.a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.3.hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

  • Bet you if you said, “All homosexuals/Asians/anything else leave the store” it wouldn’t have blown up this big.

    People are so dumb.

  • @fivepts - I would have died laughing if I was in that store when that boy said that!! I hate walmart.. We go and count how many people are wearing their PJ’s on a normal day.. Its sad..

  • @DommieDisaster - thats because it’s ONLY racist when it comes to black people… If he was a black kid and told all the whitey’s to leave, depending on where it happened, he would probably be beaten to death by a bunch of skin heads in the parking lot for being racist… Sad Sad world we live in.. Every man for himself… just be prepared to kick some ASS if you gon’ talk shiz.

  • @MomGoneMadd - It’s pathetic. Everyone wants to play the victim.

  • @DommieDisaster - they do!! and that lady I almost boxed yesterday would have probably cried about me singling her out because she was black (after I beat her ass)… It didnt matter what colour she was, she almost hit me with her van, she called me a bitch, she needed to eat asphault..

  • I guess I’m going to be in the minority here. Yes, let him be arrested.

The racism is what it is, it would be redundant for me to preach about how bad it is so I won’t.

Combining that with the fact that he had no business hijacking the PA system in the first place and yeah, he gets what he has coming to him. It’s stupid little shits like that (and the people they eventually grow into) that make working customer service jobs so fucking tedious and miserable. He might never learn to be a decent person, but after this he’ll think twice before he goes into a public place and thinks he can act like a belligerent shithead.

  • @MomGoneMadd -  FO SHO! Beat herr assss. People are to sensitive to this whole racism bit. At this point, everybody hates somebody, so shut up and deal with it.

  • @Schristian -Well, as a black man, it doesn’t bother me too much.

LOL

  • @Grampa_David - And who exactly sold slaves to the White people? “White America” isn’t the only perpetrator of the massive slavery movements of the 1800-1900s. To insinuate as such is wholly ignorant of history and reality. That’s first off.

Secondly, I take great offense to anyone trying to force what American ancestors did down upon their future generations. I didn’t own a slave. My family didn’t own a slave. And unless any of the people who were in the store were actually slaves, or are, then it is a complete over-reaction to a poorly timed prank. Just because it had racist overtones does not negate it as a prank.

And a prank is still just a prank. You can apply anything you want to it, but in the end it was meant as a joke, not a malicious attack on anyone. If we’re jailing people over that, well then we’d best set up the “Comedian Wing” pronto. Looks like Chris Rock will be first on the chopping block?

  • @bluepillorredpill - I would, and I’d consider an aggressive response to be an over-reaction. I take jokes as jokes. Ergo, my view on the matter would be that it is an over-reaction. If they take it a different way, that’s fine on them, but my view would remain the same regardless.

  • I think it’s much ado about nothing.  Serious problems get ignored while we worry about some stupid teenager pulling a prank.  Is this kind of PC garbage what the United States has sunk to.

  • It was a prank. Would he have gotten in as much trouble if he said “All white people, please leave”? What if he said “All Scandinavian people, please leave”? It was because he said “black” that it’s caused so much hype. Racism has been so skewed over the years, it’s ridiculous.

  • Um, if people can say racist and mean things to each other on the schoolyard and not get jailed, then he should be able to say racist and mean things at Walmart. He should just get fired.

  • lol, that’s pretty funny. really, do you think he’d get in trouble if he asked all white people to leave? i doubt it.

  • oh, and i think he should just get fired.

  • Nope. That is very extreme and pretty ridiulous.  He should definitely be punished though, maybe some community service would help this kid.

  • he’s old enough to know what he did, and what he did was racially biased.  slapping him on the wrist will only send the wrong message about racism.

  • Why temp or provoke some people like that?  You know you’d be provoking a violent reaction.  That kid knew this also.  He may not have expected to get a serious reaction as this, but he knew he’d get a reaction from black people, just for a “joke”.

I wouldn’t go in to a Wal-Mart within an Italian-American community and say “all Italians, please leave!” nor would I go somewhere that may be known to have a large white supremacist community and say “all white people, please leave!”  I’m asking for trouble!

Did you read the link?  They didn’t arrest him until after a couple of days after the incident.  Why didn’t he linger around?  Cause he was scared of the very possible violent reaction he would get!  He was just trying to start some crap.

But you say a joke is a joke.  So okay, go for it!  As a matter of fact, go to Oakland like you mentioned and find a random group of black folks (preferably male) and tell them about this, laugh and tell them to laugh too and don’t over-react and that they need to take a joke as a joke just like you do.  I seriously doubt you would.

Here’s a riskier idea, go to store Muslim community or maybe Afghanistan and say “all Muslim or Arab people please leave the store now!”  Now that could be real funny!  After all a joke is a joke!

  • whatever happened to freedom of speech? it’s not like black people ever go around talking trash about white people and not gotten arrested.

  • The fact that he made it about race is why he was arrested.  If it had been “price check on isle three” he may have gotten a slap on the wrist.

  • It’s funny that immaturity is the reason he shouldn’t be punished. What did he think would happen if he did this? A slap on the wrist and then just sent home? “O he didn’t know any better, there isn’t a need to punish him.” It’s total bull.
@ccarothers - I agree with you. about knowing what he was doing.

  • he should be arrested, but 1 year is a little too long

  • i think he should. racism is disgusting.

  • Freedom of speech.

    Plus, I lol’ed.

  • A lot of you sound quite ignorant and ought to be ashamed you even commented on the situation at all. We are talking about a 16 year old boy not 6…he knew clearly what he was doing when he did that and so he should be punished. It wasnt a joke or a harmless prank so it shouldnt be treated as such and if it was the other way around the punishment would have been way worse. I do agree with UR_MUSE though because he is entitled to freedom of speech and it should be between him and Walmart. He needs to understand that this is not a small issue..what if all the black people that were inside Walmart at the time decided to sue the store because they felt offended that store would be out of millions of dollars.

  • How idiotic. It was a hilarious, offensive, stupid prank. They should have kicked him out of the store and told him he wasn’t welcome back for a certain amount of time.  There was no reason for the authorities to be involved. People have really thin skin these days. Maybe they should have made him apologize on the PA system.  Doesn’t Jamie Kennedy have a reality show where he does stuff like that (even worse) and gets paid for it?

  • @Raspberry_Luck - Being offended is no good reason to sue someone, not that our courts haven’t allowed suits for less.

  • I’ll admit that his choice of black people was unwise considering the history of black oppression in our country, maybe he should have said Mexicans or white people. People should have a sense of humor. He didn’t threaten anyone.

  • You know what, the other day when I read about this… I pictured you posting it. Hehe…. I can’t read the news anymore. I don’t think about it from the proper perspective… I think about what you’re going to say and how many people are going to comment.

  • @EBailey@revelife - I don’t know his motive for choosing to say “black people” but I highly doubt it was because he’s racist. He could’ve chosen anything and I’d find the humor in it. You may think I have a sick sense of humor but I’d rather have that than not have one at all.

  • He should be forced to greet people at the entrance of walmart! lol

  • They should have given him one year slavery on a cotton farm.

    //cautiously loooks around

  • I think it seems about right..I mean when I was 16 years old I knew what was wrong and right….so I’m sure he did too.
But I agree, it’s not that he spoke a few words, its the words that he spoke. That’s what people remember the most…

  • Nope.  Kids do dumb things.  They should just ban him from that walmart.

  • @PervyPenguin - I noticed your Luigi, and it made me smile.  :)

  • eh, it is what it is despite my opinion. I was severly repremanded as a youth, maybe he will think BEFORE he acts

  • that shit is funny as hell and imma do it the next time i go to wal mart, only Imma substitute “black people” for “whatever race I can make fun of without getting into trouble”

  • No? Kids do stupid stuff all the time! I think the reaction of the prank is what is spiraling out of control.

  • Did anybody listien to him?  What kind of tone did he use?  Isw he a bigot?  Does he have any black friend?  All these can be put into consideration.  He should of course apologize, if he has not already done do.

    What do his parents think?

  • I think he should be locked in Wal-Mart for a year…Lol.

  • I think arrest and jail are a little harsh. The prank was tasteless, but not harmful.  Plus, we do live in America where freedom of speech is our right even when that speech is not politically correct.

  • When I was 17 I worked at a Wal*mart so I was ALL up in the P.A system 24/7.
but I think becausse what he said was targeted towards a specific race, it makes it wrong. If it was just a general comedic statement then, he would not be in this mess.
I’m sure he didn’t intend to be racist, but it is what it is. Juvy is a bit of a stretch for punishment, agreed, what he said wasn’t right. That’s for sure.

  • Wow, that’s just stupid. He shouldn’t be arrested, if he’d said all WHITE PEOPLE leave the building no one would of cared!!!

  • @ccarothers - Thank you for being insightful!

  • @Nellie0x - I’d rather laugh about things that are actually funny and not blatantly racist and obnoxious. But then again…that’s me. Jeff Dunham is a white comedian who jokes about ALL races…Yet he isn’t racist or obnoxious. What’s the difference? The intent and an actual hint of humor…not just some reckless youth who was taught that it’s okay to say something like that. Not cool, not funny.

  • LOL omg!

hahaha! did he really say that? XD

well my laughing aside, i dont think he should be arrested but maybe he should be taught some manners instead! – hah! i cant believe someone would say that, people really need to get over the racism issue it’s over-rated. It’s 2010 not 1950!

  • He should get kicked out like the rest of us had.  My best friend went on the PA system at Jewel once and said, “Nick, come to aisle 6, and hurry up fucktard.”

He got kicked out and banned from the store, and he used the… *deep breath* F word.

  • I work at a Walmart in Michigan. This happened in Washington. What’s ridiculous is that they are taking away phones from each department. Now each department only has one phone with two available lines. We are getting all sorts of angry customers from being slow to get to phone calls… all because of this. Really? Is it REALLY that big of a deal? I mean… the kid owes a huge apology. What he did is completely wrong. But it’s also wrong that people are blaming Walmart as a whole, and not the employees at that particular Walmart.

  • @Nellie0x - I would have been like, “alright. Off to Kmart then.”

  • Punishing him like that will only make him do worse.

  • IMO? Yeah, I understand the “Freedom of Speech” thing, but that was totally uncalled for. I’d have knocked his head into the wall myself. I know racism will always be here, and I cannot deny being racist myself. Everyone’s a little bit racist. EVERYONE! Do not deny it or you are lying. But this kid, while he shouldn’t quite be arrested, I have to say he does deserve some punishment. I know  when ‘Black’ people AND ‘White’ people call each other names, fists fly, but that goes to show you how ‘great’ a country we are, no? Don’t you just love public politics? If you are a different race, and have a dispute, just punch someone in the face. That’ll solve everything right? Humans are idiots, and americans more so, and the world won’t get any better until we all  admit it. Honestly. I admit it. I’m no exception, and my life isn’t as bad. Don’t get me wrong, cause there are good people out there in the world. I’m usually called on to help settle disputes while out with my friends because I don’t judge like everyone else does, so long as I’m in a good mood. So to all of you out there who think you’re ‘perfect’, I’ll tell you this one last thing, and I semi-quote: “And if you like to think your Shit don’t stink, Lean a little bit closer now, cause roses really smell like Crap.”

    Signed,
    Allen Keith, The Constable

  • If a black kid had said “all white people leave the store” we would’ve never heard about it.

  • That Walmart is near me. I had first read about it on Craigslist’s South Jersey Rants and Raves  board on the day it happened. People were Raving about kid and applauding what he had done. (Probably his friends who knows) I will also mention that there were only a few black shoppers there on Sunday when I shopped at noon. I heard that they would boycott but it could have been just a coincidence. Maybe Walmart should change their phone code system. Considering employees have to punch in a code to use it for intercom. If this was a 1st time offense I think he should get community service.

  • Actually, that’s a serious crime, so I don’t think it’s too harsh at all

  • Have people forgotten pranks? Yes, he deserves some sort of reprimand / punishment, but this is a prank, and should not be treated as anything more than that.

  • If they arrest him. Then I say they need to give the death sentence to a drug dealer.

What ever happen to free speech?

I have nothing against black people…I think everyone should own one.

JUST KIDDING its a F’n joke lite’n up

  • @yaneznayu – I agree. I’m not sure he should be ARRESTED, but he should definitely be punished (paying a fine, doing community hours, etc).

  • @catman517 - I feel so so guilty for laughing at that joke.

  • He’s an idiot. Jail time? Naw. Besides, it WAS pretty funny. He should be sentenced to community service with black people. Lots of black people.

  • Sure he should get punished. But locked up for up to a year for saying something stupid? A little harsh much?

  • No. He should be punished, but he shouldn’t go to juvie. Especially for a year. That’s ridiculous.

  • @mynameisblueskye - LOL! If only other people commenting had a sense of humor like yours.

  • @EBailey@revelife - LOL he didn’t say all black people are **** (whatever word you choose to be the most derogatory). I don’t think he was being racist. Personally, I find comedians who joke about race to be the most racist of all. Especially Chris Rock.. So I guess it’s just a matter of opinion.

  • On the Chris Rock comment we agree. I don’t think it’s right for comedians to constantly talk about white people and black people. Even if people can find humor in it, it sets a bad precedent for things like this. This kid might have been being a cheap Chris Rock. So what’s funny about this kid and not Chris Rock? I’m actually curious and not being sarcastic fyi.

  • I’m curious as to what would have happened if he had said any other race or ethnic group besides black people…

  • Was it tasteless? Yes.
Intimidation? Um, how?  I don’t find 16 year old boys intimidating.
Bias? Meh, probably but since when can you be arrested for bias if you are not exercising it as an employer
Harassment? It would have been harassment if he went up to every black person in the store and told them they had to leave.

I’m so sick of PC crap. They are wasting money pursuing this.  It was a stupid prank.  I don’t think a real crime has been committed here unless the township has a law that prohibits people from giving false information over a PA system in a store.

    Really, move along, move along.

  • I think it would be funny as hell to put a sign on him saying what he did and place him squarely in the most dangerous ghetto nearby. Bet a couple of ass kickings will straighten him out real quick.

Did I mention I hate teenagers?

  • @EBailey@revelife - I guess it’s just because Chris Rock likes to make generalizations about people.. & this kid didn’t really say anything besides please leave. I’m sure he just did it for attention, not out of hate or racism.

  • He should be punished, but a year seems like a bit much. He’s 16, so…he’s an idiot, basically. Obviously he said something offensive but like I said…he’s 16 and an idiot. Put his ass through sensitivity training and make him apologize. If he does it again, arrest his ass.

  • No, maybe just a slap on the head.

  • Um. Hi. It’s not okay. This is not okay. I worry about people saying this is funny. This is terrible and offensive, and yeah, he should be punished.

  • this boy went too far. shouldn’t have done that. but so have the authorities. jail?? come on. just punish him. jail is too much. yup.

  • That is a little bit extreme. I just think that our society has become a little too politically correct and too sensitive to discrimination. The boy should have received some form of punishment, but nothing nearly as hefty as that!

  • Lee Atwater wannabe, influencing kids who don’t know any better with tricky framing. Bush league.

  • @Nellie0x - Damn Nell, fine but ugly on the inside, say it aint so? I agree that he doesn’t deserve such a sentence, but its nothing funny about being ignorant, stuff like that just helps keep this country being the trash bin that it is.

  • absolutely. all of you and I know that most 16 year old kids usually do dumb things. the reason being that no one ever takes there dumb sh*t serious. and the teenager grows up thinking that is okay and it continues. this the continuous circle of racism in this country. him getting arrested is a way that racism could stop.

being racist makes you look uneducated and ignorant ::for anyone and everyone making racist comments on this blog.=/

  • Sure, it’s not a NICE thing to say, but what’s great about America is WE’RE ALL ENTITLED TO OUR OWN OPINIONS.

Which means, legally, I am allowed to be racist and biased! (Though I am not.)

So although I think the store should have thrown him out and possibly banned him from returning (along with an apology on his behalf to the customers) the police were not necessary.

Like, what happened to the first amendment?

  • Y’know, I wonder if he would have been in trouble if he had said that, meaning to explain further, but had the phone snatched from his hands.

And then we all find out that some crazed KKK member with a bomb was totally waiting to blow up some blacks. And he was trying to save their lives.

  • just because you’re 16 doesn’t mean you don’t know what you’re doing or saying . if your old enough to get a job, you should be responsible for your own actions and words .
