  • Getting Blocked

Recently, I stopped by a site and found out I was blocked from the site.  I couldn’t access the site when signed into my site.

It felt odd to me so I signed out of my site and went to the same site and I was able to enter in the site.  So I rechecked and sure enough, I could not access the site when signed into my site.

I had talked to the person a few times in private messages.  I had even talked to her on IM once.  So it was odd to me that I was blocked by her.  Obviously we were not close because I had not visited her site in a few months.  But being blocked appeared odd.

So I was tempted to create another site and just go ask her why she blocked me  (I can’t remember which IM username she has).  But that felt a little stalkerish.  If a person blocks you, it means they have decided they don’t want you to come to their site.

If you wondered why someone blocked you, would you create another site to ask the person why?

  • Naw, but I might make another account to stalk them. And then write a vicious attack post.

  • Naw, I’d just block their ass.  REVENGE!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nah, I don’t care.

  • @NikBv - SerenaDante, Manstration, etc. Why do I always get blocked by the fat whores?!

  • no. i wouldn’t care, frankly.  dan, you can be so weird, i swear.

  • Yes, i would want to know so i’d figure out a way to ask….then i’d let it go.  Maybe it was an accident, who knows.

  • nope. i just let it be. mostly bc she was my ex so… lol. i just let it be. =]

  • I just block them back.  Well, if I notice they pop onto my site frequently despite my being blocked on theirs.  That’s just…awkward.

  • No, but I’d love to know! Apparently quite a few people have blocked me…people I’ve seen in passing but (to my recollection) never interacted with. I’d love an explanation…?? But I don’t need one badly enough to create another account. Seems silly. Obviously if I was blocked they don’t want to talk to me so I’d rather not waste my time and theirs.

  • I blocked two people..but had reason to do so.

if you were closer friends with that person…maybe.

I think it’s kinda strange when people get blocked out of the blue…but than again, it’s just the internet!

  • much like a business, i worry about keeping my current loyal customers, not the ones I’ve already lost.

  • @ShimmerBodyCream - You’re such a sweetheart when you leave comments though.  I don’t see why anyone would block you.  ♥

  • Depends how close I was to the person. I don’t think I would make a fake screen name…I would probably just e-mail them or contact them in some way. If it was just a person that I didn’t really have much of a relationship with I would probably let it go.

  • I’ve had people that I’ve never even talked to before block me.

  • *shrug*
    I assume we’re not compatible.

  • I have never been blocked before, as far as im aware of…

  • In my best christian voice I say FUUHHHHHHKKKK NO!! Screw that person then man.. If they block me, I figure my work is done there.. NEXXXT!

  • I really doubt I’d give enough of a shit to ask 99% of the people on here why they blocked me

  • @steph843 - I’m with her.. lol

  • No, who cares? This person sounds stupid anyway. Why does it matter so much, anyway?

  • I’m obsessive…but not that much.

  • i’ve been blocked once, from what i know. thing is, i didn’t even know the person, let alone have spoken to them.

  • Nah.  I don’t worry about it.  Unless its over a big deal, and in that case i generally know what happened.

  • Only if I had been incredibly close with the person. An acquaintance isn’t worth it.

  • No way. I generally block people who block me because I’ve had a couple of times that the person who blocked me had blocked and then was on my site digging for crap to use to start drama with me. I know they can still read my stuff if they’re not signed in, unless I put up friends lock, but I can at least make it harder for them to do so.

  • yeah sometimes i block people who send me mass messages because it’s so much easier to block them than delete them from my friends list. lol i think xanga should work on that e_e

  • I’ve been blocked by three people (or, rather, three sites) to date (I suspect they could all be one person.) They all blocked me at once for daring to suggest that an -ish site was part of Xanga.

I wrote a post LOLing about it, then forgot them. Except their names, because I’ll never let them friend me again. :) . (they know who they are)

  • you’re paranoid

  • Nope, but I guess it would depend on how well I knew the person before hand.

  • nah, just would block them right back. eff them.

  • I would really want to know why
But I guess just let it be and leave it alone

  • Nah, but I’d create another account and pretend I’m a 50-year old, morbidly obese man who wants to gather their boogers on a shrine wall, tell them I masturbate furiously to their profile picture and send them disturbing porn until I’m blocked again.

  • Because you write like a journalist instead of a blogger? Because you hardly visit your ‘friends’ and only visit your favorites? Because of your boobs obsession? There are a number of reasons.

  • Nope.  I’m too busy IRL to worry why someone I don’t know IRL blocked me on a blog.

  • Clean cuts are the best cuts!  They heal faster!

  • @leanazomg - these are my sentiments too.

  • I’ve only had two-Jenessa 1889 and Dear Ricky.  Not sure I care either way.

  • @ShimmerBodyCream - I would never block you, baby. <3

  • I’ve never been blocked but I have blocked people for being trolls or for being rude to me. Not to say I do that for every person or I’d be talking to myself on Xanga. LOL I mean people who get personal when insulting me or just never have anything good to say. If you cant agree to disagree, then you have no place in adult conversation.

  • @ShimmerBodyCream - ::HUGS:: You’ve always been sweet to me! I love quite a bit of your comebacks! =D

  • No…. but I would probably do some stalking… >_>

  • I would… but maybe that’s not a good thing. :/ The majority of people don’t seem to want to take internet interactions/relationships seriously…

  • I would if we spoke normally and nothing happened, like you.

If we remotely disagreed, I’d just take it that person blew it outta proportion and blocked me, and I’d move on. :D :D

  • My block list is over 100 names long.  Sometimes, I just do it for the hell of it.  Fuck it.

  • @snapeful - Srsly…it’s so fucking cumbersome.

  • i can only think of 2 people that have blocked me, freeeeverse and loonytoons, both because i called them out on bad behavior, one who got a 3 page(of comments) attack going on a fellow xangan, despite the fact that she constantly blogs/blogged(i guess i should put it in past tense since i havent been there in some time) about being such a wonderful, kind, loving person, though to be honest, she usually treated me like shit, and the other who posted about how barack obama gave her the courage to verbaly assault two old men in a dog park, in that order.

  • No. That would be a bit too skeevy.

  • No, I’d just curl up in the fetal position and sob uncontrollably for a few hours.

  • It would depend. If the person kept coming to my site despite having blocked me, then I would set up another site just to see what was his/her malfunction. If they didn’t come to my site after blocking me, I wouldn’t care.

  • One of my IRL friends once accidentally blocked me and we both couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t able to access his site.  I sure felt stupid after learning how come.

  • I had someone blocked me because I wouldn’t show him my pictures haha what a retard.

  • Nope, their loss, jerkwads.  :)

I visit your site every work day, just so you know!  hehe

  • If someone goes to the trouble of blocking me, I usually just write them off. That happened to me with someone I thought was a friend, but who had made accusations in the month before the blockage. I took the block as a sign that it was time to walk away. And I suppose there are some other times when I might consider a block to be something of a compliment.

  • Nah, I’d just let it be. Can’t imagine who would block you though.

  • I think sometimes people “block” because they don’t like seeing updates
in their universal inbox.  So instead of unsubscribing (because they
still want to read your site) they just block you instead.  Stupid if
you ask me.  When I find people that have blocked me that are still
subbed to me, I block them.

  • I’ve been blocked.  But only for pointing out obvious points (pointless I know)… or maybe for slight lack of eloquence.

  • I would want to ask them why I was blocked..I’m just the type of person I need answers lol So I could see myself doing that :O)

  • nah you go into creeper territory there

  • I did the one and only time I was ever blocked a few weeks ago.  I could careless and the only reason she blocked me was because she didn’t agree with my opinion on a political matter.  I was just curious to see the comment thread and sure enough, you could tell by the way the comments went that she blocks anyone and everyone that disagrees with her.  I wasn’t a regular reader, but she was featured on the front page and I stopped in on the debate.

  • Are you getting paid for each time you type the word “site?”

I have yet to get blocked, I think.

  • Why does it matter so much to you if you didn’t socialize with her that much?

  • No.  I wouldn’t care.

  • I am not sure, I think I am only blocked by one person, and I know why. lol
Oh no! make that 2. There’s a crazy woman blocked me too, but that’s mostly funny.
Nah, I don’t care. Let them block if it keeps them safe from all my evils. :-p

  • DearRicky blocked me, then unblocked and tried to friend me

  • na. if anyone blocked me it would be their loss. i’m an awesome person. haha jk… kind of ;)

  • I think it would depend on how close I was to them. I would still be a bit upset about being blocked! But then like everything else. I would be like “Meh” & probably block them from mine… why should I allow them to read what I am writting when they won’t allow me to read what they are writting? Doesn’t seem fair…

  • @Uek -  Wow! Seriously? Nice… LOL some people!

  • Nah, I wouldn’t. But I might creep on them when I’m not signed in to try to find out why. Usually if someone blocks me it’s because I’ve been HXC with the keyboard and I know it’s coming for me, though.

  • A long time ago I was blocked for absolutely no reason by someone and I was angry enough to create another account just to annoy the person who did it. This was because I was furious because this person flipped through my site, didn’t bother to comment, message, or anything, and just summarily blocked me after deeming me somehow unworthy. At first I was understanding, I thought it was to protect her privacy, but when this jerk started posting to Featured Grownups and stuff I could see they were not trying to hide their site. I have never figured out what that person’s problem with me was and the person never told me. This person has long since stopped writing on Xanga; they weren’t worth getting worked up about. But I did feel I was treated rudely and unfairly and I hate being treated like that. So I can understand why you might be tempted to ask this person what their problem is.

I’m not often blocked because I am a nice person. I don’t start fights and I don’t insult people out of the blue; in fact I usually go out of my way to diffuse any arguments that might have started. I do block pornographic, abusive, and racist accounts so as to avoid trouble. Ordinary users don’t tend to block me because most people can see that I am generally reasonable. Nowadays since my site isn’t as open as it was I don’t care if some random person blocks me.

But you have a pretty big site; I doubt one person blocking you would make a real difference to you or bother you as much as my experience did. So I would advise against doing it, unless this really hurts or disturbs you for some reason.

  • Nah, being blocked is all the info I need to make a decision about that person.

  • Yes, I would want to know the reason.

  • I have blocked others and others have blocked me.  I wouldn’t create a new account though just to ask why.  If the reader isn’t interested, the reader isn’t interested.

  • I don’t think there’s a need to do so. He/She has his/her right to block anyone they dislike. Blogging must goes on with or without them (the blockers).

  • I’ve never been blocked, so idk.

  • No.

But I might proceed to slap a ho.

  • Nope, too busy in real life to care.

  • No.. I wouldn’t. :)

Although it can be interesting to figure out, it’s really no big deal. The world is vast with tons of things to do, places to go, and people to comment… If he or she isn’t interested in explaining why, then just remember that life goes on and there’s better things to do. xD It’s just too bad he/she missed out; that’s all.

  • Hey, my name is Changning Su, Master Degree of Social Worker and I am running for US senator as an Independent Candidate.

    Thank you!

  • I troll people who’s block me on this site.

I also put them on my hit list. If I ever do decide to go on a shooting rampage, well, I’ll show them Jesus.

  • No. I would just let it go.

  • Weird, she just randomly blocked you? I think I’ve blocked maybe 2 people….but they know exactly why they were blocked. As far as making a second account, just don’t. That crosses over into stalkerdom and obsession. Take comfort in the fact that you have scores of other Xanga buds that enjoy conversing with you and don’t have you blocked.

  • it depends on how close i was to them.

  • Thought once a site is set to private, everyone is blocked except friends.

  • Hm….that happened to me once. It was weird, cause the person who blocked me was the one to initiate conversation by asking for my SN and whatnot…..

  • I’ve done it( made another account to find out why I got banned)

  • nah.   i’d say take the hint and ignore them.   there are plenty of other people to talk to

  • I think if I was willing to make a whole new account to ask that…when I’d only had one IM convo with them…then it’s no wonder they blocked me.  Wahahaha!  :)

  • blocking someone only makes sense if you’re on friends lock.

  • No. And I wouldn’t bitch about it either.

  • I wouldn’t worry about it if I didn’t really know them.

  • Nah. If someone disliked me enough to go to the effort of blocking me, I wouldn’t bother wasting my time trying to find out why.

  • Depends on who it is.  But yeah, like you said you really didn’t talk to this girl much so, I wouldn’t make a new one.  If it was someone I’d talked to several times, or a closer friend I would absolutely create a new site to ask.

  • I understand where you’re coming from here.  I really don’t think I’d just be like “oh, whatever, I don’t care” right away.  Granted, I wouldn’t stalk them, but I’d initially be offended.  However, like other have said, it’s the internet.  I would easily get over it and move on.

  • @steph843 - If i blocked you it would be to make you feel terrible and question your self worth… hopefully this would make me feel better about myself… much easier to try and knock you down a level than to take the energy to get up off my fat lazy butt and try to better myself as a person lol

  • No I just figure shit happens and move on.

  • Thus why I have xanga lock, blocked and locked out. Of course, people can wander in on different names, but it’s no large task to block those as well.

I explicitly state on my site that I’ll erase you from my life if you’re bothersome enough, so why I blocked someone should be a matter of foreknowledge.

  • :/ Blocking doesn’t really fix much, it just inspires more cyber-drama.. Which is really silly. All drama is silly..

  • Well I can see how some people it could be very suspicious, like someone close to you. At that point, it just looks like they are trying to hide something. If it’s someone you’re not really close to, cut ‘em loose.

  • cancel all your accounts, problems solved.

  • No, I wouldn’t.  I have had only this Xanga, and will only have  one.

  • Nah.  Really not worth the effort.

  • If it was someone I felt particularly close to, I might.  But if it’s someone I’ve only read a few times, I doubt I’d really care.

  • It actually happened to me once.  I didn’t try to contact her.  I just left her alone and haven’t spoken to her since.  Sometimes I regret it, because maybe it might have been possible to find out what the trouble was and properly make amends, but then again, If it becomes clear she doesn’t want to talk to you, I suppose it is respectful to back off.  Really, I’d say just think about what would be the best thing to do and be aware of the consequences of whatever you choose.  It’s all a matter of which consequences leave the fewest burns.

  • I haven’t been blocked that I know of but I suppose if I do get blocked I’ll just let it go. If they wanted to talk about it with me they would have. If one of my real life friends blocked me here I would call them up and ask about it though.

  • I’ve only been blocked once that I know, and the person blocked me because s/he was a douchebag. No real mystery.

  • I have another question for you, after reading comments. Have you noticed that the ppl that Block the most are the real Troll like ppl, the ones that make Nice ppl block them first, yet they act the victim, it’s some kid of weird Münchhausen By Proxy issue.

  • Yes, if I was 12. :p But, I’m an adult and I’m not that childish. If I really, really, really want to know why they blocked me, whether I thought we were good friends or whether we were just more or less acquaintances, it would just be too bad. If I was very close with the person, though, I would know some other way to get hold of them and ask them. Whether it was e-mail, phone, IM or something else. So, I don’t think being very close with a person is even a good excuse to create another account just to ask someone why they blocked you. :/ It actually just makes you look stalkerish and desperate, you’re right. And its creepy. If someone did that to me, I would be very creeped out and probably report them. :p

  • If you had talked to her and were on friendly terms with her, she probably didn’t block you personally.  Blocking an IP can be tricky and if she was trying to block someone with a very similar IP to yours, it might affect you too.  For a while there, a site I worked on was getting spammed and harassed out the wazoo by people with AOL addresses.  We finally got fed up with it and decided to just cut our losses and block all AOL addresses.

If you really liked the site, then I don’t see a problem with writing to her from a different address and ask what’s going on.  I bet it has nothing at all to do with you.

  • I haven’t been blocked from someone but the person did make a new xanga and didn’t let me know about it. I had did a search and found  the person again under another xanga nick. I felt a little hurt because I enjoyed reading their posts and never had any closure to find out if it was something I did or said that offended them.

Honestly you seem like a nice person. I don’t know why someone would block you. It seems kind of silly.

  • Not really. Then again if that’s the only way to ask them why then Id use one of my other xanga’s.

  • I would want to know. I have a constant need to please people. But I probably wouldn’t create another username. I would just grin and bare it and sit there telling myself it was them. People are just catty.

  • It wouldn’t bother me the least bit! I’m not that big into worrying why.

  • no lol, i would be quite entertained with someone blocking me.

  • why would it matter?  Even though I like Xanga, it’s like the rest of the internet to me.  It’s hard to always tell the goldfish from the piranhas, and that applies to me, too.  Maybe I’m too thick, or something.

  • Not worth the time.

  • People do block me.

Xanga has it set up in a funny way, in that if I have subscribed to someone who has blocked me I still get email, but can’t click through to their site.  Your post made me realize that I should edit my subscriptions to remove them, because I realize that they don’t want to be seen on the bad boy professor’s list of subscriptions (which is probably why they blocked me in the first place).
I notice that a lot of the comments mention inexplicable blocking.   I think that is could be because the “block” button is next to other buttons that you might want to select.
