I was just reading an article about how a third of U.S. teenagers “send more than 100 texts a day.”
In fact, girls send on average 80 text messages a day and boys send on average 30 text messages a day. Here is the link: Link
I have noticed that my oldest son spends far more time texting than he spends on social network sites.

Haha, since February, I’ve sent 3,000+ text messages. Before February, I probably would send close to 100 a month. I’ve really upped my text usage.

I don’t have many people to text, nor do I have much to text about. I can go weeks without receiving or sending a single text. I used to hate texting, but now I have a phone with a keypad, so I’m not as reluctant to do it.
I send none but my niece when she had a phone averaged more then 300 a day and she was 11! She no logner has a phone due to a 900 dollar phone bill. Ouch!

i don’t know exactly how many i send a day, but i text a lot in general… mostly my boyfriend, otherwise it’s other girlfriends. texting is reliable because most people have their phones with them at all times and check them very regularly (i’m in college) so if i have a question or anything i know i will get a fairly timely response.
plus, who doesn’t text these days? nobody wants to fess up to texting massive amounts a day, but in my age group, we text ALL THE TIME.

It depends. If I’m working out a fantasy sports trade it’s 10-15 to the same person. Otherwise it’s usually no more than 10 a day total.

Because sometimes I just don’t feel like replying. Or I’m busy which is usually.
I hardly ever send less than a hundred a day.
Once I got 500 in one day, but I was sick and in bed, and super bored.
Usually I send out around 150-200 a day.

I send about 200 texts a day. I only text a limited amount of people (boyfriend, and a couple of girlfriends), but I know my boyfriend texts way more than I do. Boys text each other all the time, even if they are not too friendly with each other.
i’ve sent 1100 this billing cycle. it resets tomorrow…so average about 37 a day.

Beginning of 2010 I used all 1500 for a select 10-12 people.
Now I might need to upgrade from 1500 to unlimited. I’m breaking out of my social circle, so I’m sending more texts to groups of individuals rather than the same group of people. Yeah, it’s a weird change. It’s annoying that it’s in the middle of the semester because I have to make it seem like I’m not changed in my original group, but I also want to reach out to others. It sounds like your first kid is pretty popular…
I wouldn’t worry so much about your first kid. I’m a 2nd/last and felt overshadowed by my older brother for almost my entire life (he’s almost 34 now).

Teenagers … *shudder* I’ve got two of my own and a 21 year old living in my home. The two teens must have an allowance of 5000 per month on my Verizon plan or it’ll costs me extra. the 21 year old, thankfully, has her own plan but she can’t “talk” on the phone and only has text ability. She must use somewhere in the neighborhood of 20,000 per month. I point out that when they get to be my age they won’t have any cartilidge left in their thumbs, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference.

At 21, I think I was just outside of the age range that grew up with texting. I’ve had a cell phone since 14, but didn’t get texting until I was 18. I’ve been an avid user of instant messaging since 12, so my communication preferences remained static.
I believe it. I see people who text nearly nonstop all day with several different people at a time. I just don’t do it. The only time I text is if I need to let someone know something and I am unable to call them or I simply don’t want to get involved in a long conversation. I try and send less than 10 a month, since they cost about 10 cents each to send.
I was never into the whole texting bit. I think in the 7 years I’ve had a cellphone (or disposable Tracfone), I’ve sent maybe 35 texts.
It depends on if I’m in a relationship, haha. I go through phases where I’ll text well over 100 a day, and then I go through phase where I only text maybe twice a week.

i send close to 6,000 a month so break it down that about 6000/30=200 messages a day yea i know thats a lot

having spent a full year with my thumb immobilized in a specially made brace of hot plastic, due to trigger thumb, when the cortisone shots into the meaty part of my palm stopped working, due to a youth of playing “Battle Zone”, a one thumbed tank game and having modified my existence to live with bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome I can only say that if I were young again I would certainly go into physiotherapy or some type of health field specializing in the hand.
People are going to have a LOT of problems in about 10 years, I would bet any extra money I had on this.
It isn’t just the texting. It’s everything ELSE we do with our hands, wrists and middle fingers.
Face it, masturbation contributes to OVER USE SYNDROME, DUH, but no one is saying that. So does driving, doing someone’s hair, and being a cashier or turning papers like an accountant…

i prefer to IM my friends, even if my mom got me unlimited text messaging. ._____.
It depends on the day and who I’m talking to, but I would say over 100 when I do text at all in a day. Because, I usually have to empty my text inbox and sent box twice, and it holds 80 texts each before it starts prompting me that they need to be emptied. But, I’m not a teenager, so does it not matter? :p
Incidentally, I watched an interview on Fox News one morning with a teenage girl who got carpal tunnel from sending so many texts. She was sending around 100 per day, and in high school that probably really was every single day. :p

Although, you can’t really condemn texting for causing carpal tunnel, considering how easy it is to get it from various different things. Its impossible to stop everything you do that could possibly cause carpal tunnel.
