Ideal Height
I was sitting at a xanga meeting tonight with Saintvi, Joyouswind, Kate, Andrew and Mary and Mary was talking about the ideal height for a woman. She mentioned that she is 5’1″ and she said the ideal height for a woman is 5’5″ to 5’6″.

I said it is better for a woman to be shorter.
What do you think is the ideal height for a woman?

I’m 5″3 and I don’t mind it at all. I think we shorter ladies have the upper hand. Being shorter gives us a broader dating pool. I prefer my man (for lack of better words) to be taller than me so that gives me the option to date just about any guy, really. Not a lot of guys are shorter than 5″3. Though I do still prefer 6 foot and up.

I’m 5’10″ and that is probably more than “ideal.” I think I am fortunate to have found a man who makes me look shorter and feminine when he stands next to me. Of course, if I were too much shorter than him sex might be kind of difficult, or at least rule out kissing, and that would be sad for me. The really tall guys have gotta have someone!

Obviously this is a very subjective thing with no possible universally correct answer.
I tend to find girls in the 5’1″-5’6″ range most attractive.
My shorter friends say that being less than 5′ 4″ is difficult in practical ways. Standard countertop and sink heights are impractical, and custom work is expensive. Finding a car to suit is a problem too. Aside from that sort of practical matter there is no such thing – for either gender.

I agree that 5’5″ to 5’6″ is an ideal height for a woman. At that height, she enjoys status and respect from being slightly taller than average, but at the same time, she’s shorter than most men (which most people prefer). At the ideal height, she also appears statuesque compared to other women, and she still appears feminine next to a man.

@swtaznxtc90 - I dated a girl who was 5’9…more like 5’10. She was a giant…and I kinda liked that. Majority of the girls I’ve been with have been 5’5 or less. More like 5’1″…Asian men are short, and Asian women are even shorter. Go figure.

I’m 5’1″ and I love being short. I never have to worry about which heels I can wear.I had a 6′ room mate in college and she felt like a moose when she went on a date with a guy who wasn’t taller than her. Her choices were kinda limited…

I think the ideal height for a girl is whatever height she is. She was made a particular way for a reason, and that’s what is best. We don’t have to fit into the normal standard of beauty. We are all beautiful in our own way.

I think it really depends on bone structure and the propensity to gain weight. The taller you are, the more proportioned you look if you’re apt to gain weight. I don’t think there’s an ideal height universal to all women.
I’m 5’2″ and very happy with that height.
I’m 5′ 10″ and wouldn’t ever give up a single inch of it. I like being tall. Besides, it’s not about how tall you are – it’s how you use it. My husband is about a half inch shorter than me, more if I wear heels, and he wouldn’t give up any of my inches, either. He’s confident like that.

I think 5’6′-5’8′. When you are shorter, you really have to watch your enjoyment of food because you can get fat and round too easily. It makes me glad I am average height and not short, because I like food. It would feel very unfair to me to be short

I’m a six-foot tall woman and I know for a fact that shorter women are ideal for men because they want to be the taller of the two.
So, in turn, I date the shorter men (5’3″) that cannot find someone shorter than them.
It is just how it works.
I like being 5’4″ but I think 5’5″ to 5’6″ is what’s typically ideal. Over or under makes it difficult to find clothes. Plus it’s out of the average, so I imagine less people find it attractive.
A lot of girls say they want to be 5’8″ or 5’9″, but I think that’s just because models are that height. Realistically, I don’t see that as really being ideal.

Depends on what you’re going for. I think 5’10″ is a great height, because I can put on a little weight without ANYONE noticing. It gets distributed over a greater critical mass, so it doesn’t make a notable difference in my actual inches around.
Also, being tall gets you noticed. A lot of guys love the long, leggy look. And I can reach things other people can’t reach.

I would agree that 5’5ish would be a pretty good height, most pants come in lengths accommodating to that height and it would allow the woman to be shorter than most men in her dating pool.
I’m 5’3″ and either have to hem my pants or buy them in shorter sizes (and not all brands carry that). My husband is 6’3″ tall which I love, I feel so little next to him.

I agree with Mary. It is easier to find clothes that fit if you are around 5’5″-5’6″. Also, you are tall enough to reach stuff, but not too tall for most men.

Good to hear so many think my height 5’5″ is ideal. I always wanted to be a few inches taller, since I am the shortest person in my family. From now on, I will try and appreciate my height.

I don’t think a girl should be an “ideal” height. I think it’s mean and hurts those of us who “aren’t.” I think that no matter what people should be comfortable with each other. We all have our own opinions, but it’s questions such as this one that cause of lot of people to look down upon themselves.

I’m 5’8″. I’d prefer to be a bit shorter. I like between 5’2″ and 5’4″ is ideal. But then I’ve seen some beautiful tall women, too. I think proportions matter more than height.

Not to sound ignorant but I think ideal doesn’t speak fort everyone. I think height differs from different races. Caucasians are usually tall, Hispanics are usually short, Africans are usually tall but that’s just stereotype. I don’t speak for everyone, though. Just observation.

I’m 5’9″ and I LOVE it. The perfect height for a woman….is whatever she feels comfortable with. I’ve never really had any guys get weirded out by it. I don’t think it’s THAT big of a deal if the girl is a little taller. That’s not the case in my current relationship, but I have dated shorter guys.
