The Recommend Heart
We all recommend xanga posts at a different pace and for different reasons.
# 1 Impulse Recommender: An impulse recommender gives little thought to their recommends. The person just recommends at will whatever site that feels worthy of recommends in the moment. I am an impulse recommender. I can hit the recommend button 5-6 times a day and have even done it 10 times a day.
# 2 Social Recommender: A social recommender recommends his/her friends to help them get the word out about their site.
# 3 Stingy Recommender: The stingy recommender is very careful with his/her recommends. He/She wants to have high recommend credibility.
# 4 Social Activist Recommender: The social activist recommender tends to recommend his/her favorite causes. It can be for saving seals to preventing smoking with teenagers.
# 5 Go Along Recommender: The go along recommender recommends because 10 other people have recommended the post in 20 minutes and that means he/she should too.
# 6 Jerk Recommender: The jerk recommender recommends a post 4 minutes after his/her enemy has updated their blog. (This is most effective if the jerk recommender has a few extra friends).
# 7 Boob Recommender: The Boob recommender just recommends anything about boobs or anything with boobs in the photo.
# 8 Whore Recommender: The whore recommender recommends anything with his/her own name in the post. It does not have to be a positive post to get recommended. The person recommending is simply a whore.
# 9 Good Post Recommender: The good post recommender recommends a post of value.

LOL…I’m none of the above, yet…because my subscription list still exists from back to 2004 and I don’t even know if any of those on that list are still blogging here. Maybe after I revamp, I can recommend posts that I particularly enjoyed. That’s the kind of recommender I would be – Every once in a while, someone writes an exceptional post that I just want to share with other people. If that makes me stingy, I guess that’s what it would make me…but I’d think it would annoy people if I’m recommending really boring posts…and let’s face it, we all write them sometimes.

Stingy. I just don’t think of it often. If the features were added more than three years after I started using Xanga, I tend to forget about them. I think I’ve recommended probably 10 or 15 things since recommends came out.
I tend to rec posts socially, but they are posts that I think should be widely read anyway – like stuff by seedsower.

I’m a stingy social activist recommender.
I am a whore recommender (duh! Who isn’t?) and a Good post recommender. Some people might see me as an impulse recommender because I rec so much, but what can I say, my subs are great?
I don’t get the “jerk recommender” – why would someone rec a post 4 minutes after their enemy updated? What’s the point?
I fall under “stingy”, but I’m just trying to stay out of trouble. I used to rec a lot more, until some people decided it was a breach of Xanga etiquette. I was never personally yelled at, but I saw others take some heat.

I don’t think about recommending very often, but then one of my friends recommends something of mine, and I think, ‘Oh, I should do more rec’s,’ then I look at my friends’ posts to see if anything jumps out at me, but I like to recommend something that’s better than the rest, so sometimes I have a hard time with deciding what to rec. I guess I’m a little wishy-washy on the rec’s.

I’m a pretty random rec giver. Usually it’s just for a good post, but I guess I’m a little stingy. I want my recs to matter. I am subscribed to people who constantly rec things pertaining to their pet topics and little else, like the evils of Christian beliefs, or whatever, and those recs mean less and less to me over time because they just get boring. They are all the same. I am very likely to look, however, if someone who doesn’t rec more than a few times a day recommends something. People who rec a variety of topics and tend to choose quality entries to rec are very likely to get a look from me on every rec even if they recommend a lot of posts in a day. Also, if someone who almost never recommends posts recommends one, I am guaranteed to look because it MUST be important.
